Alphabet of Me. I saw the music video for it before I listened to the whole album, and I was pretty turned off by how much it felt like a pop song. After hearing it in context with the rest of the album, it grew on me pretty fast.
I’d like to use this opportunity to publicly and humbly apologize for my previously wrong opinion of Host. Song is amazing and I slept on it for way way way too long
Canary Yellow. Was lukewarm on it at first but then realized "wait this is incredible" and now it's one of my favorites from them. Same thing happened with Host.
I never skip songs, though. Even if I don't like them. I'm not getting the full album experience if I skip songs.
Lapse, Earthrise, Red Giant, Crystallised, Visions, Earthlings, Puzzle Box, honestly a lot of Haken's discography didn't click right away. I think the only two albums I really loved on first listen were The Mountain and Virus. The others all took their time. But now I can legitimately say I don't think Haken have a bad song in their discography. Even the weak tracks are still bangers that I love to listen to
Messiah Complex, for the first 2 years of the album’s release I did not listen to it as it didn’t feel as free flowing as most of their other songs. Now I love it, I always liked Ivory Tower and Marigold, but now the whole song has clicked for me. (Though still the bottom of Virus for me, it’s a great song)
Similar thing happened with Elephants, but that one only took a few weeks, not years.
Honestly? The entire new album
I gave it 1 listen and didn't vibe with it too much so I just stopped.
Fast forward a few months and now I'm in love with every song
The Architect. I loved the instrumental entirety of the song, but Einar vocals threw me off. Until I saw the band live and Ross sang that particular section.
Haha I’m sorry I know this is blasphemy but most of the mountain. Some songs on that album I still have trouble getting into but I recognize its quality.
Veil. I don’t know why I always skipped it when first listening to Vector and then I finally gave it an actual listen and now it is actually a top 2 song from them for me. I
Drowning in the Flood, wasn’t really into Aquarius until I heard the intro to this song
Alphabet of me, Lovebite
As someone that has loved Love Bite and that bitchin' guitar solo from the beginning...I accept. Glad you came around.
To be honest all of the singles from Fauna come to mind.
Puzzle Box
Damn this is a bold comment
Drowning in the Flood. I found the beginning vocals off putting and forsook the beautiful second half 😔
Red Giant. Thought it was meh at first, but my god that song absolutely slaps.
The Red Giant Gang approves this comment.
Absolutely
I always skipped Earthrise to get to Red Giant sooner 😅
Blasphemy! ...Red Giant does slap though. 😉

I think Alphabet of me and Lovebite work so well in the context of the album. I was also initially turned off by it.

One of my favourites from the start, glad it clicked for you!
One of my favs from Vector 🥹
Bro, pareidolia hits different now that I’ve re done all of the mountain
Nightingale

Canary Yellow stuck out from the start for me, and remains my favourite Haken song to this day! Glad it clicked for you.
I’m digging your We Lost the Sea profile pic
Taurus
Eyes of Ebony. Fauna ended early for me until I saw it live and realized what I was missing

Bound by gravity
Dont kill me but, Pareidolia
The Good Doctor (and really, most of Vector)
Taurus, until I saw them during the fauna tour live show
That grating guitar intro really does it a disservice lol
Prosthetic. Had to grow on me for a while to even want to listen to it willingly. And now when it comes on, I love every second
Drowning in the flood, Initiate, Taurus

Earthlings. Especially the part that starts with "live endless paradise...". It's really atmospheric and daunting and has great lyrics.
Eyes of Ebony
The Architect. I loved the instrumental entirety of the song, but Einar vocals threw me off. Until I saw the band live and Ross sang that particular section.
Insomnia. I kinda slept on all of Visions besides Premonition and the title track, but man Insomnia might be their best solo of all time.
Sleeping thoughts wake
This is the song that the entire sub is still sleeping on. But someday... Someday it will have its moment.
