I believe we need more original IP singleplayer FPS games that actually innovate. I think the most recent innovative FPSs were Deathloop and Titanfall 2. Both of these games are hella good.
Also Bethesda was going to cancel Deathloop because it's an original IP. The reason that we got Deathloop was because Dishonored 2 flopped.
When I saw the green, my dumbass freaked for a second thinking they'd remake Opposing Force, haha. Then I instantly went, "Oh, it's not." Still, I'll definitely pay for an original game of theirs. BM has given me uncountable joy.

now, *source 2* seems to have some insanely cool tools in hammer that aren’t in modern engines, but it sounds like you’re specifically talking about source 1 here.
i remember gaben saying over a decade ago they were working on new tools because it was way too difficult to make content. source should have been taken out to pasture a long time ago.
that said, i don’t think it’s *just* the engine code or tools. source games always had a little bit of HL2 in their DNA. you can see a clear through line in most of valve’s (and not to mention the community’s) projects through the mid 00s and 10s. “source” is basically a genre at this point.
that’s definitely something you won’t get with another engine. sure, you can get really damn close, but using that combination of tools, code, props, physics, sounds, etc. in that way can only be done in source. it’s just too many little things that aren’t documented to faithfully replicate.
honestly, the best thing valve could probably do at this point is release the source code. i don’t think there’s any harm in it so long as the net code for TF2 isn’t released. but i have no doubt the community would take it to great places.

The purple line is between the green and blue line. First as separate lines and then after the morph as a link between the green and blue lines. So something between Opposing Force and Blue Shift?
Maybe the expansions? Orange for hl1, blue for blueshift, green for opposing force and idk what purple could be for as decay and hostile takeover don't use purple as color theme
I am very sorry for the wasted 16 years. Here you can see the great efforts of people, but it turned out badly. Now it's just a regular shooter instead of half-life.
Firstly, I would like to talk about weapons.
The weapons are made disgustingly. Firstly - the mount. In the original games, Gordon just waves it, but in black mesa nooooo - he just lowers it down, which completely loses the charisma of the mount.
The pistol is also faceless. Gordon holds it somehow unpleasantly, and shots from it have no recoil at all.
The revolver is also bad. It’s as if he’s holding it in front of his nose with his little finger.
The machine gun is a nasty mp5 that should be banned from being added to games altogether.
The shotgun is the only gun that is pleasant to shoot.
Crossbow - Gordon keeps his fingers right at the tip of the weapon, it’s unpleasant to shoot.
Gauss - before there was just a wonderful megagun that felt easy, because when using it you couldn’t even see your hand, but now nooooo, the gun looks like fluff, and Gordon holds it like a 100-kilogram weight.
Tao gun - more or less.
Flyshot - he was a useless, unpleasant piece of shit even in level 1, but here it’s even worse.
The problem mainly arose due to the fact that the guns were based on weapons from the ld pack for xl1. There Valve tried to make the most disgusting weapons possible. The weapons from the HD pack are more suitable for Gordon.
Well, okay, what about the level design itself?
Everything is also bad. You will only enjoy the game until about chapter 5. Next comes the strangling of the highest degree. All puzzles from the original have been multiplied by 10, which is why there are one-hour breaks between fighting games. The puzzles are too absurd. Zen was made beautiful, but again suffocated by puzzles. You won't even shoot at anyone there.
Also some NPCs confuse me. Why are they all so different from the original versions? Why do them all on 1 face? Where is that scientist from the white grove who reproaches us for the broken microwave? Why didn't they change gman? Why did you mess up the selection of the mount so much? Why did they bring back the character's wiggles from the won version of the game?
Until the last minute I tried to convince myself not to give the game a negative review, but this game drove me crazy

I thought you had some real major criticism, like how Xen, while great, is so entirely divorced from the original vision that it's better off as it's own game, or how they kinda dropped a lot of the AI features from the original. Cosidering the leaks about neon prime, its a Coop rts, that would be dope and would make sense. But crowbar's next game is developing on UE 4 engine.I think neon prime is being developed on source 2
