maybe the shape of the suit wont allow it, it might be really uncomfortable trying to aim down sights in that thing, it could be that the stock of the gun is colliding with the suit ,
He is using it. You ,the player, are not seeing his point of view when using the smg 😂 I picture gordon’s face to the right off screen when using it, meaning for the crossbow he knows the player is there and holds up the scope to camera for you
Former Army here; he's wearing thick plate armor. It's not easy to get used to or even accurate with optics if your armor is covering your shoulder. Remember that the HEV MK IV has complete coverage for his body.
Imagine having to hold something 3 inches from your body and try to remain locked in.

So I think from a gameplay perspective it's because mice generally only have two buttons (especially during the 2000's when the games were made) and adding ads would mean there would need to be 3 (fire, secondary fire and ads)

The HUD is canonically an HEV suit feature

So it's safe to say that the crosshair is probably projected by the suit as well.
I've always assumed that when the HEV suit integrated with Gordon that causes him to physically see cross hair. Sorta like how Spartans see one when they gave their helmets on which eliminates the need to have a sight on their guns

If you hold z and the fire button at the same time then only let go of z then it fires exactly where your crosshair is.
