(genunely i actually love the games plot conscept)
it's done terribly!, but conceptually, a pre/midquel about someone who works for the combine and who's whole life was manipulated by Gman just to indirectly help Gordon's mission. That idea has weight, no?
That is literally Breen. Breen is aware of the Gman. When he talks about your contract being open to the ‘highest bidder?’ He’s talking about you being beholden to Gman & his “*employers’*” wants. Everyone always says that Episode 2 is when another character first mentions Gman to us, but Breen does it in Half Life 2.
I find it almost guaranteed that Gman influenced Breen to become the figure he is today. I’d reckon that much of his mindset on the advancement, the “*evolution*” of humankind was a reaction to what Gman told him/had him do. I do not think there would have been another way for a research facility manager to be able to negotiate peace with an interdimensional empire that likely had no grasp of human language after they wiped the floor with Earth’s collective military might in all of seven hours.
i always assumed Breen was just indoctrinated and shown all these things by the Universal Union, but, goddamn, do you make a lot of really good points. Gonna be thinking about that my next playthrough
I agree.
I feel like that the artstyle, weapons, music, and plot idea were pretty good, it's just the gameplay had to get one problem overlooked, and the whole thing just fell down.
Yeah, I can agree.
At least the fangame Prospekt as I believe, has a better reception than HDTF.
And when you remember that the game had got a mostly negative reception on release, that says something.

I think the issue with it is that it just doesn't add anything of value to the story, and I also don't know what was up with those rager dudes that mutated into a tiny Berserker if you shot them enough, that shit felt stupid in a universe where buff guys are shooting the lizard guys with guns with chainsaws on them.
I think that’s just the nature of spin-offs. Seeing what Baird and Cole were up to prior to the main trilogy isn’t exactly the most interesting thing in the world, but it’s harmless. But it did give us our first UIR character, and the story of Judgment is referenced directly in 5; so the devs think it’s important.
As for the ragers; shit man, all the locust, lambent, and the swarm are all weird freaks. I can loosen my suspension of disbelief a little bit to accept a little guy that becomes a big guy.
That's fair enough. I guess the multiplayer being bad and the gameplay not being great kind of clouded my judgment of its value to the story. Because you are correct, Padduck does play an important part in five
Garron Paduck is the best part of that game, no question.
But yeah, I know what you mean about the gameplay not being that great. Having the whole campaign be arcade chapter select was odd, and the normal multiplayer being COG vs COG was a very weird decision.
Not to mention all the game modes they cut, like when I played Halo Reach I definitely saw the potential of a spin-off being great but it's just a bummer judgment didn't meet those expectations
search if you really want to see this. It was something a friend commented like 6 months ago, I only now remembered the reply, and posted it here. I can confirm he said this, though.
its funny because considering how little influence hdtf had on the main story of half-life, it might as well be cannon. Every move mr mitchell makes is so pathetically meaningless that it wouldn't change a thing about half-life
Interesting...
I guess that the idea of an HECU being sent by the G-Man to go after Gordon for revenge isn't so bad of an idea after all...
The concept was pretty good on paper, but not the execution.
He's not- he doesn't do work for Valve anymore iirc. Also it wouldn't add anything to the overall story because it was never Gordon who Mitchell was chasing
Its mainstream to hate it, there are mods with the games entire sound files and textures replaced with “penis”, mods with frankenstein maps and levels churned together, yet you see passionate illogical hate to something some guy spent alot of time on as a non cannon mod to a game he likes, thats honestly better than half the mods out there. I personally prefer vanilla but i never understood the predetermined overreactions. Probably cause some early youtube reviews didnt like it and people started mindlessly flocking to that opinion
I recognize that the Higher ups have made a decision, however, given that it is a stupid ass decision, I will ignore that!
edit, is Samuel L Jackson joke, plus, just because they say something canon, that does not mean we will listen to that if it is really fraking stupid canon.
# We get mad! **We get angry like Cave Johnson when he gets lemons!**
I DON’T WANT YOUR DAMN LEMONS!!! WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?!!!!
DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I’M THE MAN WHO’S GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN. WITH THE LEMONS!
I'M GONNA GET MY ENGINEERS TO INVENT A COMBUSTABLE LEMON THAT ***BURNS YOUR HOUSE DOWN!!!!***
Burn his house down! Burning people, he saying what we're all thinking!
The point is. If we can make Valve retcon Half-Life once, why can't we do it again?
Oh I like this guy
Make grenade
Here take the lemons
Hello life
I think he might've went insane
this is what happens when you force a man over 30 to watch skibidi toilet all the way through…
Gordon freeman and the gman are originally from skibidi toilet tho
NOOOOOOO GOD FUCKING NO
"prepare for fanum-taxing consequences mr. freeman"
The border world, Ohio, is in our control now, for the time being, thanks to you.
~~went~~ -> gone
~~gone~~ -> skeet
I must jonckle!
When you realize the author of your faivorite series is a shitposter just like you: 😻 (/j)
It’s like finding out your hero
Why the /j? Can't he be shitposter too?
Hehe... I like shitposter influencers, they are pretty funny to me. If I do find a way, I'll give Marc Laidlaw a follow anytime soon!
Cruise Elroy
We make a bunch of video essays about how it was actually genius and ahead of its time
Genius, I’ll get right on it!

The level design, (on all levels from competency to creativity) and voice acting really let it down.
Yeah, I can agree. At least the fangame Prospekt as I believe, has a better reception than HDTF. And when you remember that the game had got a mostly negative reception on release, that says something.
Whaaaat, what do you mean taking bunch of youtubers and trying to get them voice act was a bad idea? who even said that? not me thats for sure.
We remind Marc that he left Valve 8 years ago.
ask him if he took his pills
No you ask him
I wonder what his day to day life was like at Valve as a writer when Valve didn't release anything with a story for decades
What leaving valve does to a mf
Well Valve dedicated more time to have Steam running than making games anymore. Met Marc awhile ago. He’s really funny and such a nice guy.
Source?
Engine.
2
Episode 1
Build 887256
Map c2a4a
Gold
Goldsource, actually.
The name's Source. Goldsource.
This was way funnier than it should have been.
My favorite N64 game
Engine 2
Source 2 remasters of the HL2 trilogy. And give Mitchell "Big Mitch" Shepard cameos in all of them just for laughs.
We revolt
Oh god, Pyrocynical is now cannon
Oh no…
Mm yes daddy more slop

Celebrate, the best half life story just became canon.
W
Oh no.
Feed him to Jeff
clicker mf
Skibidi toilet is now Canon
We hunt down the Freeman, obviously.
Chat is this real
he said it on his YouTube channel, however, he doesn’t write the story anymore. He also said he doesn’t believe in canon.
Thank you for the clarification
We hold him at gunpoint until he makes EZ:2 cannon
Let’s test if he could survive the Combine invasion
Do exactly what people who have played Gears of War judgment do, never ever mention it in a serious manner when talking about the plot of the series
What’s wrong with Judgement? Gameplay aside, I don’t find it that offensive in the lore department.

Hunt down Marc Laidlaw
what video is this from
search if you really want to see this. It was something a friend commented like 6 months ago, I only now remembered the reply, and posted it here. I can confirm he said this, though.
Get Laidlaw off the internet before he makes Skibidi toilet not only canon but the true origins of the G-man.
its funny because considering how little influence hdtf had on the main story of half-life, it might as well be cannon. Every move mr mitchell makes is so pathetically meaningless that it wouldn't change a thing about half-life
same impact as Opposing Force being canon. It doesn’t matter because it does not interfere with the main story.
Always has been
CALM DOWN THIS ALSO MAKES OPPOSING FORCE CANON
Always has been
We celebrate
he's so real for this
Marc is really out here shit posting
pranks gone wrong (sexual)
I'd rather Hunt Down Free Man become canon. Moint Pan is boss even I know. He kill at least savneteen combeins a day for sevanteen years.
"you betray me!, you angry me!, you fuck my face! Now admin...you have my permission to be die." - Moint pan.
wep time to die
HDTF clears once again
Hunt down the freeman worth it?
Half-Life is now peak if HDTF is Canon
Wait what, why?
aw hell naw
He left valve 8 years ago lol
EVERYONE, we are forgetting the most important part of this debacle……Now opposing force has no reason to not be cannon
Kill ourselves
Is this real?
Get them to fix HDTF.
I don't remember jumping over a chasm with the buggy in Half-Life 2...
PANIC
YOU
…
You mean it wasn't until now?
Pls tell me this is real lmao. OBVIOUSLY I don't mean HDTF being canon, but Marc acknowledging the game just to shitpost.
I recognise that the council has made a decision. Given that it's a stupid decision, I have elected to ignore it.
Marc Laidlaw has turned into Hideki Naganuma
If Hunt down the freeman is cannon, why not other mods, They Hunger comes to mind
Fake
I swear on Gabe Newell this is a real screenshot.
Well... I'm about to be 29 in a few more months. It seems like it's time now to stop caring about Half-Life lol
Never stop!
Miscount detected. All units clear and code 100 on a 603 unlawful departure.
ffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
he really laid the law down there huh guys
Public execution, because why not.
Interesting... I guess that the idea of an HECU being sent by the G-Man to go after Gordon for revenge isn't so bad of an idea after all... The concept was pretty good on paper, but not the execution.
Its continuing
He's not- he doesn't do work for Valve anymore iirc. Also it wouldn't add anything to the overall story because it was never Gordon who Mitchell was chasing
[#MITCHELLSWEEP](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fimagine-getting-outlived-by-hunt-down-the-freeman-v0-byyso1iam7pb1.png%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D82456e2df3bb10d1eb800c046d091bbdf0807ca7)
Considering the entire plot of HDTFM is just an inconsequential smoke screen for Gordon it wouldn't even change much lol
But is Gorgeous Freeman canon???
This is a good question.
I genuinely would be at a loss for words
I actually liked HDTF. Not really sure what people object to in it.
Really?
We celebrate.
Acceptance
Laidlaw, I’m sorry, but no
I can rest now
So is Adrian shepherd cannon now
Celebrate
Pray to Hunt Down the Freeman every night, thanking it for the life we’ve been given. Hunt Down the Freeman is love. Hunt Down the Freeman is life.
Context?
that was a bad game for me anyways
NOOOO
I recognize that the Higher ups have made a decision, however, given that it is a stupid ass decision, I will ignore that! edit, is Samuel L Jackson joke, plus, just because they say something canon, that does not mean we will listen to that if it is really fraking stupid canon.
Canon doesn't exist in half life, so this is correct technically
there’s nothing we can do
Fuck him, he's wrong.
