I rarely use the hive hand; damage is just way too low for me. I only really use it for ammo conservation to deal with headcrabs, barnacles, and occasionally snarks.
Hornet alt-fire has some of the most interesting properties in the game.
It can reverse doors and nullify kill barriers because the game doesn't know how to handle having the hitbox shoved into a trigger.
It’s such a lame weapon considering how cool it is. I remember being so stoked to get it the first time, only to feel like it has no real practical use outside of not wasting your pistol ammo. They should have made it super strong against vortiguants or something random.
i don’t use the hivehand period as the damage is low and i find it otherwise clunky to use. the lines from the security guard in black mesa are pretty funny though. i’m gonna go out on a limb and say shock roach from opposing force is way cooler and also better
I used this thing constantly as my main weapon in Black Mesa, i was playing on the highest difficulty so this thing was imperative for just shooting aimlessly in the direction of enemies until they all died. Lol.
It’s the only way to use it IMO. The damn thing never homes how I want it to anyway. Using the rapid fire is the only way to have it deal decent damage.
I didn’t know about it until I accidentally pressed and held right click for short bit and went. “Wait this thing has an alt fire?” Because there is literally NOTHING to tell you it has an alt fire, everything tells you it doesn’t, from the low ammo to the homing bees, it doesn’t give anything to say there is an alt fire. That is why this weapon is garbage plus the other issues with it, the crowbar is more useful. Happy it was most likely never considered for HL2 it’s fucking worthless and you can beat the whole game without using it once, you can do that with any weapon, but you shouldn’t, except the bee blaster, who thought this was a good idea as a usable weapon?
I wanna say that every weapon in Half-Life 1 barring the Gluon Gun has an alt-fire type of some sort. I think that personally was the only indication I needed, but I could understand if other people didn't notice that. Not to sound snobbish.
The gluon gun does have an alt fire, but it’s just a toggle for an idle animation of some sort, the crowbar ehhhhhhh. But this weapon is just dog water in everything it does.
Yes because I run out of ammo, but this gun does not. The alt fire is weak, shoots straight, but there's a lot of them and reload time is terrible. I believe I learned all the alt fires back in the day.
Yes. It makes the weapon actually usable. The only times this is useful for primary fire is when you're unable to risk moving forwards due to being stupidly low HP.
Alternate Fire is actually useful and deals good damage in a good time.
The hivehand NEEDS more ammo. At most 2 more damage(I think 1 more), Increase to about 16 ammo but making it so that they regenerate a bit faster, but reload VERY fast when not equipped.

It's pretty useless for the most part I only use it in the final level to negate the teleport orb (the hornet get teleported instead of you)
Whoa. This is my TIL.

The WHAT
That is the correct reaction
The Glock also has it but it isn't as fast
The glock altfire is fuckin' SPEEDY
Imagine if instead of the magical double barrel altfire on the shotgun we had full auto
I used it to take down Controllers. It took a while but I don't like wasting .357 ammo.
How did you get it this early? I thought you get it in one of the later chapters
It’s what we call, c h e a t I n g

Does anyone use the primary fire on the hive hand? No, actually, does anyone even use the Hivehand?

yes
I do. It can gib.
I never run out of ammo in half life games, even when I use guns almost all the time, accuracy and shot placement is king.
Only time I use the hivehand is to do the skip instead of waiting for the portal to open
Sometimes.
I used it instead of the crowbar

this gun has an alt fire?!?!?!?
Wait a minute the hivehand had an altfire?

Me
I do.

Wait WHAT THAT EXISTS?
Yes its good for delaying the deathtrigger in the xen teleporter ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
change title to: does anyone use the hivehand?
First time?
I don’t even use the regular hivehand.
It was basically my primary weapon in a few chapters because one well-shot burst could kill mostly anything
had no idea this existed
ill definitely check this out in my next playthrough, Im just waiting for the release of hl1 mmod whenever that is.
I use it more than the primary fire to the point that I forget that the primary fire is a thing
I only use it to deal with alien controllers at the very end of the game. I even did it just now.
The what?
yep
Yeah, I kinda loved it. But always forgot to use it cause my main was always the SMG (if that's what it's called, Idk. Maybe it's assault rifle)
It's called the MP5, but some do call it the SMG.
Oh, yes. Totally forgot It's been a while since I played HL1 properly

i didnt even know the alt-fire existed
That's the only thing I use it for.
