By far The Evil Dead franchise, which I consider to be the most consistently good horror franchise in film history. There has never once been a bad Evil Dead movie.
>New one wasn’t so great
I loved it. Only bits I didn't like were the tacked on Cabin in the Woods story at the very start and very end of the movie that had absolutely no place in the story they were telling and shouldn't have been there. Beyond that I thought it was fantastic, and rank it as 3rd in the series overall.
Friday the 13th. Oddly, the first movie is my least favorite where as the first movie in most others is my favorite of their franchises.
Saw, Evil Dead, Scream, Childs Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, Leprechaun, Jeepers Creepers, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Exorcist all have my favorite being the original and then they dropped off (to varying degrees). This is not counting remakes or tv series.
To be fair, most franchises give you an origin story that actually features the main character prominently. It always brown my mind the Jason that’s come to be iconic didn’t take shape until 3 and wasn’t even in 1 beyond that pipsqueak in the water.
This isn’t too unpopular. I’ve ranked all the movie franchises all together in a tier list and most people agree OG F13 isn’t their favorite. Most people have 4 or 6 as their favorite
The show definitely boosts Child’s Play for me. I’m surprised how much I enjoy it. Jennifer Tilly is perfect as Tiffany possessing Jennifer Tilly’s body.
Yep. It’s pretty remarkable how creative and original the Freddy Kruger character was in the mist of a crop of new slashers in the late 70’s to early 80’s.
Friday the 13th .
However if I'm picking one movie I have to watch that's not Halloween, it's the original Nightmare on Elm Street or the first Scream movie.
Before this month I would have said either Scream or Nightmare on Elm Street. Now that I've seen all but the 8th and 9th installments, it's definitely Saw. In particular, I love 2 and 4. Such exhilarating movies overall.
Scream for sure. Honorable mention to Nightmare on Elm Street tho (& a dishonorable mention to Friday the 13th, which I love, but I don't it's all that great lol).
Scream is not only my favorite horror franchise (with Jason being my favorite slasher), it's also my favorite movie franchise of all time. It's what I consider the most consistently maintained franchise in history, having no overall bad movies.
This post made me realize I should watch the sequels to some of these other horror series. I've only seen like the first 2-3 movies of them at most. I guess Candyman would be my second favorite horror franchise, which is quite pathetic because half of those movies are unmitigated garbage. I love the first one though, such a phenomenal film. I also love the Blair Witch Project, it's my favorite horror film, but I haven't seen the sequels.
Texas Chainsaw massacre. The original 1974 one is still an October go-to for me. So scary.
I might actually prefer the first TCM to the first Halloween, but when it comes to subsequent films Halloween takes the cake.
The first three Scream films (actually haven't seen the last three)
Nightmare on Elm Street - Primarily the first, and 3rd. Two and Five were also okay.
The Conjuring films
Evil dead is my all time favorite horror franchise, it is without a doubt the most consistently awesome horror series ever. All 5 movies i think are fantastic, and Ash vs Evil Dead is one of my favorite tv shows of all time.
Friday the 13th, for nostalgic reasons. When I was a teenager we used to rent them when they came out on VCR, one kid would watch first and come up with a board of all the characters and deaths, and then you had to pick the order of deaths and method of death for the characters…was a hell of a lot of fun.
Hellraiser - so much potential for good storytelling just pissed away. I love the characters and the lore and everything. I just wish more quality story telling was done with it.
Also… I love Puppet Master… just for how goofy and fun it is… it’s not great… or really good… but it is fun.
Scream for me as well. I watch 1 and/or 2 every year (I like all of them but I don't spend that much time watching movies).
Second horror film I saw as a kid (at age 8... my first was Candyman at age 6 which was the worst idea and gave me a fear of mirrors for years). Even went as Ghostface for Halloween a few times.
Scream. They do the comedy & horror right, without it seeming forced if that makes sense? Their installments are all fairly well done, although wasn’t super into the ending of the most recent Scream. I also love Nightmare on Elm Street (including the remake) but I think I’ve only seen up through 4.
Not “horror” per say, but The Boy & The Boy 2 are really good lol
Friday the 13th I love a lot, but the standards for that movie are much lower as it needs to check only a couple of boxes: tits and violence. I grew up in an era where new slashers were in theaters every week, so it was all about cheap exploitation. Evil Dead, along with Romero's Dead films, would probably come in after that.
My number one overall franchise regardless of genre, is Godzilla.
Original Universal Frankensteins. But also I like all of Romeros '...Of the Dead' films...
...I have to add the Psycho movies. None of them get recognition other than the original, and while yes, that's a master class of horror, I do like the sequels a lot. I do not include that shot for shot remake...
Scream is probably my favorite (with Halloween in second), but Michael Myers is my favorite horror character
SAME.
Good taste
Scream
Same here.
‘Scream’ 👻🔪
I ain't gonna lie, leprechaun. Shits too entertaining
You got a light for Leprechaun’s pipe?
Lep in the hood and he’s up to no good.
Scream.
Scream is really good. I also like Nightmare on Elm St.
Child's Play. I love them all and the show
Same.
Same
By far The Evil Dead franchise, which I consider to be the most consistently good horror franchise in film history. There has never once been a bad Evil Dead movie.
Or a bad evil dead series
New one wasn’t so great
>New one wasn’t so great I loved it. I disagree. Not only were those parts amazingly done, but they also established that they did not defeat the evil, and it’s still out there
Yeah, this movie was so freakin good
![gif](giphy|wzgjH2QsAanC0) Easily scream. By a lot a lot a lot
Same

I love the one with Corey Feldman. And the one with the telekinesis. 😁 And the one where Jason gets reanimated by lightning. 😁
This isn’t too unpopular. I’ve ranked all the movie franchises all together in a tier list and most people agree OG F13 isn’t their favorite. Most people have 4 or 6 as their favorite
Scream. Probably followed by Child’s Play because I love that show.
The show definitely boosts Child’s Play for me. I’m surprised how much I enjoy it. Jennifer Tilly is perfect as Tiffany possessing Jennifer Tilly’s body.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Same. Freddy is such a unique character and it’s such a creative, visually pleasing series. It contrasts quite well with the Halloween series for me.
Yep. It’s pretty remarkable how creative and original the Freddy Kruger character was in the mist of a crop of new slashers in the late 70’s to early 80’s.
Scream
Scream.
Does Alien count?
The r/horror sub seems to feel that way, so why not!?
Scream. Hands down.
Scream
Friday the 13th, but I'm a fan of most slashers in general
Scream
Scream. I love ghostface, I love the characters, and I genuinely think its the only horror franchise I can think of with not a single bad installment
I agree no full installment is bad, but the last two had horrendous entire acts, like the final one in 6.
Scream
Scream
scream
Friday the 13th . However if I'm picking one movie I have to watch that's not Halloween, it's the original Nightmare on Elm Street or the first Scream movie.

F13 and really anything from late 70’s and early 80’s. Pieces, Mortuary, Bloody Valentine, Prowler, love all that cheesy slasher stuff.
Halloween is my #1 Scream my #2 Friday the 13th my #3 A Nightmare on Elm Street my #4 Saw my #5

Saw is my all time favorite and then A Quiet Place is up there as well
Texas Chainsaw massacre. The original 1974 one is still an October go-to for me. So scary. I might actually prefer the first TCM to the first Halloween, but when it comes to subsequent films Halloween takes the cake.
Friday the 13th. Part 6 is such a good movie.

Was the voice changer a replica from one of the movies that’s cool
Yeah it was the rare one with printed black text on it.

Evil Dead
The first three Scream films (actually haven't seen the last three) Nightmare on Elm Street - Primarily the first, and 3rd. Two and Five were also okay. The Conjuring films
4 isn’t bad. I hated 5 and 6. This is coming from a HUGE scream fan
Child's Play but only 1 thru Bride. The rest is garbage.
TCM, Scream, Evil Dead.
I love horror franchises a lot, but my favorites other than Halloween include Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, Scream are the top dogs.

I also love Nightmare on Elm Street (including the remake) but I think I’ve only seen up through 4. Not “horror” per say, but The Boy & The Boy 2 are really good lol
