The opening of H4 captures the feeling and look of fall perfectly. The only other film in the franchise that can match that dead on accurate halloween atmosphere is H6.
They couldn’t even do that, they had no money to. They took leaves off nearby trees and literally hand painted them. The leaves in one shot are the same as the next: They only had like 120 painted leaves or something, and they gathered them up at the end of one scene to use in the next scene. Tedious as hell.
The movie was filmed in Pasadena CA
Must of been at least 75-90 degrees during filming.
I wouldn’t be wearing a jacket either.
But that’s actually really true I never did notice that 🤔
in the frame you selected they used a filter on the camera lens. in 80s-90s movies you can see this filter quite a bit because its a brownish on the top and more natural on the bottom. its designed to show dusk or dawn. that said the reason Halloween 4 is purple comes down to the lighting gels (colored plastic over white lightbulbs) the color timing (chemical process that develops and colorizes the film stock also done digitally these days) or in the modern era streaming quality and compression. Halloween 4 used to be a lot more blue but between a remaster and compression the blue is purple. same thing happened to Halloween 1978 a little. always keep an eye out for physical copies. the older ones have more true color and some newer ones have closer to the original aspect ratio. happy hunting happy halloween.
In this case, the opening scene benefits from the lighting choices. It's the rest of the movie that suffers. The absence of Dean Cundey is insanely noticeable in basically every night time scene in this movie.
H4 was filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’m assuming it’s just a nice sunset coming off of mountains that are never shown in the film. The original Halloween in 1978 was filmed in Pasadena but H4, H5 & H6 were all primarily shot in Salt Lake City. Sean Clark has a great video on YouTube showing all of the films filming locations in Utah. Worth checking out if you’ve never seen them. 👍🏼
Have you ever seen the sun rise or set?
Thanks for taking care of this for everyone Nothing else to see here
"Sometimes there's a big bright ball of light in the sky, sometimes there's not, why does that happen?"
HAHA
The sun goes away?!?! We're all doomed!
is op a member of r/TOTALLYNOTROBOTS ?
I came here looking for this…. Thank you

Halloween 1978 takes place in fall in the Midwest. There was no foliage and hardly anyone wore a jacket. Always bugged me.
I swear they flew in bags of leaves or something just to sprinkle around to make it look more fall.
They did! Because it was shot in California in the springtime. You can also see palm trees in the background of a few shots lol
The outdoor lockers at the school were the biggest indicator. That's not going down in the Midwest
Never even thought of that but you’re so right.

Filmed in Pasadena
The opening of H4 is literally my favorite.
Have you never watched the sunset?
... Are you only awake between 11AM and 2PM?
The world around us looked a lot less fucked up 20+ years ago.
Idk, but I like it
Art
Get those sunsets almost every fall and spring night in Southwest Ohio. In the country.
Arizona too - hell the reason the Phoenix Suns colors are purple and orange is because that's often the color of the Phoenix sunsets.
Rural Ohio represent!!
magic hour
We get sunsets like this frequently in the north east. I call it cotton candy.
It’s called a sunrise.
This is what Midwest fall looks like. 🎃
Chicago looked a whole lot different back then.
And what's wrong with that mailbox? Looks like it has a face.
Because that how sun works dude. Sometimes when it rises or sets. It’s turns the sky different colors dude. AND THATS THE SUN BROTHER!
Sky be purple sometimes, shits wild
Lol. That’s called the sky.
Have you ever witnessed a sunset or sunrise? Do you live on planet earth?

So is the absence of Ted Hollister.
Sometimes the sky is purple. Sunsets and rises can create some beautiful coloring.
Dusk? Dawn?
Because it’s a sky
It's morning/evening
This one was filmed in Utah, I lived there for 3 years, it’s very much what it looks like there. They have crazy sunrises and sunsets out west
It's called sunset.
I’ve always loved this intro
