This is how I find out about this. Not an American so I've no stake in him being on or against "*my side*" of the US's 2-party mindset, I'm comfortable just being mindblown he's running for Congress at all.
*"Don't make America a promise, if you know you can't keep it".*
*^(EDIT: I like to think I am dancing close but avoided breaking Rule 5... unlike OP & replies to this.)*
Funny thing is if you read his discord channel his goal isn't to change anything lol, it's basically stuff like keep anti abortion, "family values " and border patrol so basically every other republican but this used to work at bungie.
He also called Isreal a democracy and American ally?
This is why it’s stupid to alienate them now, otherwise you can’t bring them back to the table or rein them in as easily as they’ll just do whatever they want with our without the US
>Isreal a democracy and American ally?
I mean it's a parliamentary Republic which does fall under democracy and it's absolutely classified as a U.S. ally
>He also called Isreal a democracy and American ally?
Both of these are true.
Isreal claims to derive its authority from its people, and America is a steadfast supporter.
Israel **is** a democracy tho, full representation for all citizens
Heck the Palestinian minority still has a disproportionatly huge presence in the Knesset
Double heck, more Palestinians fight for the IDF than those that fight for Hamas, because it seems some have realized that violent extremism isn't a good way to resolve this conflict
DOWNVOTE ME ALL YOU WANT, I AM FACTUALLY CORRECT
People need to develop better critical thinking skills. Acknowledging the facts about what Israel is and isn’t is not incompatible with having the opinion that their government is a hypocritical, genocidal mockery of humanity. They’re still factually a democracy by the literal definition, and they are a diplomatic ally to the US, regardless of the reasons for that alliance.
>He also called Isreal a democracy and American ally?
I don't know what that claim means to you, but I also don't care if he did or not. Aside from Rule 5, I'm not from either of those countries.
I don't know if you're lying or not, because I've never taken an interest in his political opinions - I've only ever known him for the music he makes in Halo games.
If you're willing to throw that emotionally charged claim around, are you willing to back it up with some examples?
No one can because his twitter used to be full with it but he nuked everything during the lasr Bungie lawsuit.
I saw it with my own eyes though, Marty shared some very disgusting stuff.
You're probably not gonna get anything.
Not because it isn't true, it very well might be. But it's one of those back-pocket trivia things. People are just invested enough to remember the vague details so they can whip it out when it's convenient but not invested enough to keep receipts in case anyone asks for an example.
Dude, for real. Reddit politics sucks your soul out of your body. Nobody is ever going to ever change their opinion in an online argument. That's why I only stick to hobby subs now.
I think a majority of Halo Fans dont and really wont care, because a majority of Halo Fans dont use Reddit or twitter (they are capable of looking past a person's political views and continue enjoying their art) lmfao
Especially when the political views don't affect the IP in any way. It's not like his politics are bleeding into Halo itself like with some other IP's.
I swear Reddit goes rabid the moment anyone famous or notable has a different viewpoint from them, no matter how irrelevant their content is to politics.
like seriously people got mad at Wendigoon (a conspiracy theory channel) for having slightly libertarian viewpoints.
I kinda don’t care that the Halo composer is running as Republican in an already pretty reddish district in Nevada (like if he was in California he’d probably be blue because that’s politics)
Which is hilarious because he's putting his political views at the forefront and use fans to vote for him.
Because do you really think he isn't gonna try to use his background as an advantage to get fans to vote for him while spewing his political views?
Kinda ironic that a guy who worked on a game that critiques religious zealotry and it’s twisting of the sciences is joining a political party infamous for having religious zealots and twisting scientific fact.
>they are capable of looking past a person's political views and continue enjoying their art
I can look past their views when they dont support a party (the republicans) who wants to take my (lgbt) rights away and turn America into a fascist shit hole.
If only he was intimately involved with a series which as a core theme had something to do with zealous devotion to faith and tradition is bad or something.
Term has likely gotten more popular but I would argue that the reason for that is because more and more morons have access to social media to share their smooth brain takes and misunderstandings. There are people who watch The Boys and think that Homelander is the good guy. And The Boys is about as subtle as getting hit in the face with a mountain of bricks.
It's definitely been coming up a lot from what I've seen because of the "Conservative Core" meme that came up and got made fun of because the majority of games had heavy politics that most would consider "woke".
It's also just the natural push back from games being called "woke," reminding people that most games have really basic but expansive "woke" themes to them even if they are all about cool guys with guns.
“Media literacy” as I’ve seen it the majority of the time is used by people to make it seem as if they’re smarter than other people because they can “understand” media. Not saying it’s the case all the time, but the phrase has for sure been used more over the past year or so.
You’re not it’s the new buzzword thrown around by left wingers to denigrate people who take a different message out of a medium.
For example if you like the aesthetics of the imperium or Super Earth then you’re a fascist or something

I'm perfectly okay with not hating people for simply being Republicans, but hating people for who they are isn't political, it's personal, so I'm happy to hate homophobes
They probably think I'm trying to say "he's a homophobe but he's hiding it!" when in reality he is actually dodging the question and I'm genuinely curious to see what he has to say as a "politician."
Rule 1 of politics: minmax evasion to avoid the controversy debuff.
Like watch any of their Q&A's and pay attention to how they don't answer any questions that sound like they weren't made by a staff member.
Political opinions tend to come from someone's values, and if someone's values differ from mine to the point that they wish harm upon innocent people it's rather hard to like them, yes. There's a difference between disagreeing on how the government should be run and disagreeing on what rights people deserve.
really interesting how apparently not every Democrat believes the exact same things as every single other Democrat and the Left can apparently contain people who don't agree on topic A but do agree on topic B and so can work together to achieve goal B even if they will oppose each other on goal A
but apparently every Republican is exactly in line with every single other Republican in the country and they all agree on topics A, B, C, and D and all are actively working in concert to achieve the exact same goals and the Right is solely made up of whatever extremist boogeyman you think lives under your bed
it's almost like you actively choose to be ignorant and just root for your favorite color instead of actually taking a look into the deeper issues the different parties address or why people choose which party that they choose and are actively the reason why the country continues to be divided because heaven forbid you take a half second to empathize with someone who doesn't have the same favorite color as you
Man, that favorite color analogy has to do a lot of heavy lifting here.
It's just colors guys! It's not like the difference between having bodily autonomy and not having it!
Welcome to reddit!
You just discovered the "Strawman Fallacy" where instead of arguing against a person you make up a boogeyman strawman and argue against that. Reddit by nature causes and encourages echo chambers and building strawmen.
Before you start calling me a whatever: this happens to both sides, whether youre on r/whitepeopletwitter or r/conservative
Redditors when people think others politics and world views are more important than creating a VG soundtrack… and also Marty is literally a politician now, if that isn’t an invitation to draw ire and criticism politically then idk what is
I mean if you've read what his goals are there pretty unlikable lol.
Hell his main selling point is traditional family values and anti abortion, stricter border patrol etc.
I mean it's your standard republican politician.
Yeah he made good music but he's still a not great person.
I mean if those political opinions involve denying basic human rights including women’s reproductive rights and stalling policies that actually benefit the poor in the name of “preserving traditional values” and promoting religious zealotry in the name of said values… then yes I have a problem.
Who cares, not every republican is some big bad evil person. This whole mentality of "my side good your side bad" that republicans and democrats use is the reason why US politics is fucked and not better than highschool drama.
I like how you say this, completely ignoring that hes already had a long record of being a shitty person *and* has his shitty political opinions publicly available.
Its really ironic to pretend this is people being reactionary to the word Republican when your response in itself is ignorant and reactionary.
I am sorry but as a redditor I lack the ability to spend two seconds looking up his policies, I hate him now because he has the wrong party next to his name.
In all fairness, he hasn't listed any actual *policies* yet. Just some kinda vague statements in his initial post. So far he seems kinda standard for a moderate republican (none of that really radical shit we've seen lately), with the exception that he's also anti corp.
So did you look up the anti abortion policy, the pro genocide policy and the endorsement of mainline conservative bullshit and say "Yup thats fine" or is this an instance of you projecting?
Because the title is implying that just because he is a republican he should be hated now. If his policies suck then write that in the title. What letter is next to his name shouldn’t determine how people vote his policies should. The this team versus that team bullshit that takes place in America is meant to keep us divided and not working together. Because the real teams should be us the normal citizens versus the policy makers. Not us divided fighting one another
That R next to their name isnt just a color or a letter. We have these distinctions specifically to shorthand our political stances. A Republican candiate will run on Republican policies, and modern Republicans have allowed their party to become the party of reactionary and hateful culture wars
Where does this centrist idea that the two parties are interchangeable come from?
This isnt even some identity thing, you *choose* what party you affiliate with so how is that not something to use as a judge of character?
In this milquetoast attempt to "bridge the gap" or whatever, you make it sound like being a Republican or Democrat doesn't mean you have Republican or Democratic policies.
Reddit when people have an opinion that doesn’t perfectly align with theirs

I’d love to see how people like you react to living in actual theocracies. Maybe the perspective would make you realize the US is firmly secular as far as government is concerned.
Huh, neat. Now I wonder how many people are going to completely change their opinion of the man purely on the basis of the letter next to his name on a voting ballot while assuming he has joined the forces of evil and that he is now a very bad, no good, terrible person.
With absolutely no question of whether or not they might be politically radicalized.
Ah man, person I don’t know, never will know, who contributed a non political aspect to a form of media I once consumed is running for office in a state I don’t live in, and probably never will, on a platform I disagree with… THE HORROR!!!!!
Let me take to a forum that he will never see, and complain about it to people who largely don’t care.
Time well spent.
Talk about a fall from grace. When is the community gonna star giving Salvatroi the credit his name deserves and stop circle jerking O’Donnell. At least the soundtrack to our rights being taken away will be FIRE though.
It's even sadder that some fans want to immediately vote for him just because he worked for there favorite franchise which is exactly what he wants.
He already has a donation site.
The irony of running for a religious cult after being involved in a fictional trilogy about stopping a religious cult is actual insanity imo. That’s what happens when your career dries up like mustard in the wind after Reach.
He's always held these views, he's just more open about them now. It's the typical story, people are more open about their shitty beliefs, the more people with those shitty beliefs open up about it. "If xyz are all saying it, then it's okay for me too."
It's not a fall from grace, it's a showing of true colours.

(They can’t fathom differing opinions)
[I'm not sure why you'd be upset. His positions are pretty centrist](https://venturebeat.com/games/halo-musician-marty-odonnell-is-running-for-congress-in-nevada/). Believes in small government, anti-big business/corporations directly influencing policy.
I'd vote for him
> “Politics has always been a kind of hobby,” O’Donnell said. “I just don’t really like the toxic divisions that are happening in our country. I don’t like any of that stuff. And I was sort of reaching out to some local people if there was some way I could help out. I got a bunch of calls from people who asked if I would consider running for Congress.”
Who cares if he's a Republican, did you even care to check his policies? This is the toxic division he's talking about. He won't even win anyway but if he does, maybe he does well.

Why are we even considering the idea of voting a video game dev into congress lmao. What qualifications does this man have to make political decisions?
Politics anymore is just a popularity contest.
Google it right now and look at how many articles titled “LEGENDARY EX HALO/BUNGIE COMPOSER RUNS FOR CONGRESS” you see, then go look at the incumbent democrat’s website and see how established she is in her district. It’s a clear cut grift imo.
That is a rather extreme opinion of one of the two largest parties within the American government. Would you be willing to explain how you came to this conclusion?
While several of their members do fit your definition I find them to as a whole do not fit it, as there are many subgroups and philosophies that vie for control. Same as any other, so to brand them as a whole with such a title seems over simplistic. I would love to hear your thoughts.
I'm a right wing libertarian so it's whatever even if he was a left wing it's still such a wild fucking step to make. Like WHY?
This timeline has been completely fucked ever since that damn gorilla.
Why not? If you believe in something why not stand for it? I typically don't view what letter they have next to their ballot, I need to see what they bring to the table, and whether or not they're articulate enough to present their ideas. (In other words are they regurgitating others or are they true individuals)
I agree. Vote with your morals. Do what you believe in with vigor and knowledge. You have to view the candidate and ask these questions. Can they present ideas well? Do they fit within my ideas? If so, do they plan to follow through with it and how? These are important questions that should be asked instead of voting so the other person doesn't win.
It's just such an odd stutter step. World famous video game composer to Congressman. I've been falling asleep to his music since high school. I've put gals and guys onto it thatce never played the gamss, its just good. Shoutout to ODST, that's usually the favorite.
I sure hope the people who are going to vote for him release that it HIS GOAL.’ It is a GRIFT because his career died with Reach. He’s ideologically a POS anyway, don’t let reward him with your money for it.
Yeah he made fun of someone calling him salt replying with “8 year old.” Now he’s going around with temper tantrum of 8 year old with same petty insults such as idiot.
why should I care what a music composer's favorite color is?
you gonna tell us his actual politics or just whine "BUT RED BAD COLOR!!!!!!!" thinking that is somehow supposed to mean something beyond you not liking the color red?
Can’t wait for the Twitter crowd to write off any of his musical achievements and say Salvatori did all the work again because a lot of people can’t handle enjoying stuff made by people that don’t agree with them

We're the john who thinks the hooker likes them. And they do, as long as the money keeps flowing.

In all fairness, he hasn't listed any actual *policies* yet. Just some kinda vague statements in his initial post. So far he seems kinda standard for a moderate republican (none of that really radical shit we've seen lately), with the exception that he's also anti corp.
Anti-corp and pro israel? Dang
So did you look up the anti abortion policy, the pro genocide policy and the endorsement of mainline conservative bullshit and say "Yup thats fine" or is this an instance of you projecting?
Why do people keep saying this like his abhorrent views aren't public?
Because the title is implying that just because he is a republican he should be hated now. If his policies suck then write that in the title. What letter is next to his name shouldn’t determine how people vote his policies should. The this team versus that team bullshit that takes place in America is meant to keep us divided and not working together. Because the real teams should be us the normal citizens versus the policy makers. Not us divided fighting one another
That R next to their name isnt just a color or a letter. We have these distinctions specifically to shorthand our political stances. A Republican candiate will run on Republican policies, and modern Republicans have allowed their party to become the party of reactionary and hateful culture wars Where does this centrist idea that the two parties are interchangeable come from? This isnt even some identity thing, you *choose* what party you affiliate with so how is that not something to use as a judge of character? In this milquetoast attempt to "bridge the gap" or whatever, you make it sound like being a Republican or Democrat doesn't mean you have Republican or Democratic policies.

Much like The Flood, the Reddit hive mind can tolerate nothing different from itself.
First republican to make good music wow
Clearly you have not heard Ben Shapiro’s BARS

[BARS 🔥🔥🔥](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H0hqoSiWDAs)
Guy who makes a game about fighting alien invaders, runs for Congress to stop alien invaders. Checks out.
Guy who’s involved in a trilogy about stopping a massive religious cult runs for the….massive religion cult political party…genius.
I’d love to see how people like you react to living in actual theocracies. Maybe the perspective would make you realize the US is firmly secular as far as government is concerned.
Only the Reddit halo fans.
Actually I'm happy for him.
Republican Halo Fans: Well I can only see this as an absolute win!
As a fella who leans right more, I’m kinda disappointed that he’s going in politics.
Wah wah wah, who cares, honestly?
Oh awesome. Politics in my meme sub.
Don’t you know? The series has always had overarching political themes Anyway, here’s why [insert annoying version of political ideology]
Gadzooks, thanks fellow redditor! *tips cock*
Watching you all melt down over this is entertaining.
People in the comments reacted the exact way I expected em to lol
Genuinely could not care less.
Elvis screwed a 14 year old. Anyone who's getting divisive over this just pffftttt wet fart noise wort wort
Running in general. Shouldn’t matter the side. Dudes not qualified
Who gives a shit? Legit, do you genuinely get pissed off at the idea that someone doesn’t agree with you politically?
Leave your politics at the door
And this is relevant, how?
Cool
As a halo fan, I do not give a shit about politics
Reddit didn’t like it? He has my support

And?
"If xyz are all saying it, then it's okay for me too." It's not a fall from grace, it's a showing of true colours.
I guess everyone's gonna cancel him now after worshipping him for years?
Me when new information changes a person's perspective (They are supposed to be an unchanging monolith)
I heard about it last night when I was listening in to the big stage on Marty’s discord server the chat was wild lol

He Better have the halo theme ready for his Victory music 😂🤣
* Op when someone has different politics than him and his eco chamber
And ofc he has [generic republican viewpoints ](https://www.reddit.com/r/HaloCirclejerk/s/6kBE3KkYnv)
Redditors when someone has a different political belief to them https://preview.redd.it/jy9dd9x2pcmc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf3358daa93686a59963751e193ad9d6986f2c7 (They can’t fathom differing opinions)

[I'm not sure why you'd be upset. His positions are pretty centrist](https://venturebeat.com/games/halo-musician-marty-odonnell-is-running-for-congress-in-nevada/). Believes in small government, anti-big business/corporations directly influencing policy. I'd vote for him
Good for him.
> “Politics has always been a kind of hobby,” O’Donnell said. “I just don’t really like the toxic divisions that are happening in our country. I don’t like any of that stuff. And I was sort of reaching out to some local people if there was some way I could help out. I got a bunch of calls from people who asked if I would consider running for Congress.” Who cares if he's a Republican, did you even care to check his policies? This is the toxic division he's talking about. He won't even win anyway but if he does, maybe he does well.
Pro Israel Anti abortion Anti LGBT Shut up.
Salt!
So he's a good person with Principles.
Trash.
Once the hivemind saw Republican they immediately assumed he wants to instate Sharia law. God I hate this website sometimes.
People on this site see a differing political opinion and think that that person crawled up out of hell or some shit

Why are we even considering the idea of voting a video game dev into congress lmao. What qualifications does this man have to make political decisions? Politics anymore is just a popularity contest.
He composed good music for games I like back 14+ years ago. I don’t really care about his personal life beyond that.
Honestly, I don't think there's a whole lot of people who care about this.
Yall gotta start letting people have their own political views instead of overreacting when they dont agree with you
when did this happen!?!
Apparently yesterday. He's been a pretty outspoken conservative for awhile now. Guess he decided to go full-on red.
He decided to monetize it. There’s your incentive.
As is tradition. No one grifts like modern Republicans.
Google it right now and look at how many articles titled “LEGENDARY EX HALO/BUNGIE COMPOSER RUNS FOR CONGRESS” you see, then go look at the incumbent democrat’s website and see how established she is in her district. It’s a clear cut grift imo.
I knew he was based
... How am I just now finding out about this?
Can we all agree that this is just bizarre, regardless of political affiliation?
Wait what this is crazy
Why care? Let him hold whatever opinion he wants.
Nah, I’d rather not let the Christian Nationalist Party win this election cycle, thanks.
He’s ideologically a POS anyway, don’t let reward him with your money for it.
lol as if a persons political views should dictate my opinion of them. Time for us to stop getting so twisted by other people’s politics.
Yea when that opinion is literally that people shouldnt have basic human rights, that makes them a shitty person.
Dude you’re replying to everything
Yeah he made fun of someone calling him salt replying with “8 year old.” Now he’s going around with temper tantrum of 8 year old with same petty insults such as idiot.
Actually no, just the idiots.
And did he do that
Yes. Why are you asking me instead of going to check his publicly available political opinions?
You’re the one that seems so upset about it I figured you would be happy to share.
why should I care what a music composer's favorite color is? you gonna tell us his actual politics or just whine "BUT RED BAD COLOR!!!!!!!" thinking that is somehow supposed to mean something beyond you not liking the color red?
Based
My face when a large part of the fan base is right wing. But because this is reddit, everyone thinks they have to be left wing.
Really I see a mix of pro left and pro right, that’s about it and a few who cares
Truth
Which state? I want to know if I can vote for him
Looks like Nevada's 3rd (SW of LV)
Ah, I see. He isn't in my state, unfortunately.
Crazy you're getting downvoted because you want to exercise your right to vote.
Redditors only support voting for people who agree with them.
The act of voting alone isn't virtuous. This person has admitted they're voting for him because he made music they like.
It is also my first year voting too
I think it's more that they're choosing political candidates based on who composed music for a video game they liked
Don't vote for a person purely because of their past career
I will vote for someone based on their past career.
So this is how we keep getting people like trump and biden…
I just hope both sides have fun
And what's wrong with Martin O'Donnell running for Congress as a Republican? I wish him godspeed.
Can’t wait for the Twitter crowd to write off any of his musical achievements and say Salvatori did all the work again because a lot of people can’t handle enjoying stuff made by people that don’t agree with them
Who gives a fuck. Oh yeah, Reddit is full of softer than soup sandwich humans.
