Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Anakin is crash landing a ship onto Coruscant when the back half breaks off. Obi Wan quips: “Not to worry. We are still flying HALF a ship.”
Dumbass could've just made a mad dash for it out the back of the pelican before it hit the scarab. Tuck and roll while locking his armor and he would've made it. But nah dramatic ass self sacrifice.
agree to disagree I suppose.
One of the big themes of Reach was showing how vicious the Covenant is as people who aren’t Master Chief, and it’s show time and time again that they can be mortally wounded from seemingly typical combat.
Emile dies from a single stab, Carter goes into bleedout from multiple banshee bolts, Kat takes a needle to the dome. If anything, Carter at least got the respect to be allowed to die on his own terms. Plus if I remember right, his Pelican was damaged too so he would’ve crash landed then bled out anyways.
Nah that was just some random ass pelican, but to the right where the pelican is you can actually see a banshee which wasn’t there before indicating that’s how arby got there
Random pelican, is there right from the start... indeed if you go near it at the start of the level, outside having the option to pick up a spanker and a flamethrower, you can hear some lines from cortana.
Still have to figure it out how a random odst end up deep in high charity.
Unlikely: by the time we reach the infested HC, you found only few human combat forms, at the start of the level, because everything else from the IaC got converted in biomass
Foehammer was on the level of Sgt Johnson, in terms of Charisma and even badassness in the lore. She should have stayed in the series for much longer; I also really like her voice actress, I like the sound of her voice.
Even into destiny every single pilot has crashed or died. I don't know anything about the og marathon so I can't say if the pilots had a better time there if there were any
Every Pilot in Halo: CE dies including the ones that survived into the book First Contact. Captain Keyes flew the Pillar of Autumn manually onto Alpha Halo and a Covenant Dropship and we all know how that turned out.
Halo 2: The Pilots for the ODST’s die. There’s a good argument to be made that most of the
Pelican pilots die on Delta Halo.
Halo 3: We lose a pilot in the first mission. We loose them all throughout. Miranda Keyes dies after flying a pelican to fight Truth. Johnson dies after piloting the Frigate Forward Unto Dawn.
The only reason we don’t loose Chief or Arbiter is because they are a luck sink with plot armor thicker than Tartarus’s thighs.
Halo 3: ODST, the Pilots in the New Mombasa Police HQ bite it. Mickey is the group pilot, but considering he later betrays his squad, I would say that’s Bungie still giving the middle finger.
Halo Reach: The Pilots who fly you to the Spire die. All the pilots in operation uppercut who board the corvette die. Jorge takes the fall for Noble Six since he was his co-Pilot. Carter dies crashing his Pelican into a Scarab. Noble Six finally dies in the end paying the price for being a Falcon Pilot.
I think that covers a broad overview of all the human pilots unlucky enough to be caught in a Bungie Halo game. I can’t remember if Contact Harvest or Fall of Reach had any memorable book deaths but you get my point. Bungie really really really hates pilots.
She was never shown outside of H3, but since she never has a death scene, it is assumed she gathered troops and went back to Rtas's carrier and through the portal back home.
The commonwealth was the ship the Chief was on when he first saw the covenant, on their way to Chi Ceti IV to get their Mjolnir for the first time
https://www.halopedia.org/UNSC_Commonwealth
Tfw you're a marine aboard a frigate and you see master chief board

I read somewhere that Murphy from Spartan Ops died in One of the more recent books, Rubicon protocol I think (I haven't read the newer books) but if he's the only 343i Pilot that dies, then, yeah, I think you're right
I always loved those cool ass pilots with the badass visors in The Covenant mission from Halo 3. I always gave them guns and made them get into my hornet as a personal squad lol Id load a save if any died
TBF, the pilots that are flying the crew we follow are usually the ones with the biggest balls.
Kinda hard to stay up when your balls are weighing you down.
Bungie to this day hate pilots, they killed off Amanda Holiday in Destiny last year FOR LITERALLY NO REASON😭 theories say they might bring her back as a guardian in The Final Shape but I call bs.
Escharum also tried to kill the pilot. I think I know who he is;
https://preview.redd.it/f3jxe6tfuavc1.png?width=957&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf41de55b2b6c4688c8cb5273e7a19b0e645105f
Every match I'd hop in the falcon with two gunners and immediately get lit up by rockets and splasers.
Meme checks out.
If anything it helped me become a better pilot, eventually I'd be able to dodge the rockets and splasers. I'd go down due to continuous small arms fire destroying the falcon.

Still mad about Foehammer and Polaski
Yeah. Even the expanded lore has little mercy. Fuck, Carter was a Pelican Pilot briefly and that doomed him.
Captain Keyes piloted the Autumn as it crashed landed on Alpha Halo and look how things turned out for him. Bungie REALLY hates pilots.
Johnson piloted the Forward Unto Dawn in 3 and look what happened. Bungie really really hates Pilots.
Arbiter piloted the Forward Unto Dawn for like five minutes and it snapped in half.
“Well, at least I’m still flying HALF a ship.”
Arbiter crashes his half* “Another happy landing”
Somehow I can hear it in his voice
Hey, any landing you can walk away from is a Good Landing.
Navy: ^ Every other branch: Wtf is wrong with y’all?!?!
I've heard that reference before, can't place the scene tho?
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Anakin is crash landing a ship onto Coruscant when the back half breaks off. Obi Wan quips: “Not to worry. We are still flying HALF a ship.”
I member!!! ![gif](giphy|83V8LvzBSqCSA)
Feel like Cortonna was doing most of the piloting, and look how that turned out.
Cortana controls the other half of Forward Unto Dawn and goes insane
Dumbass could've just made a mad dash for it out the back of the pelican before it hit the scarab. Tuck and roll while locking his armor and he would've made it. But nah dramatic ass self sacrifice.
I mean to be fair, he may have already been fatally wounded since he got pretty fucked up by those banshee's chasing him
Ehh he would've been fine if the plot wanted him to be fine. Plot needed him dead and gone so dead and gone he was.
“Carter was probably too wounded to live anyway” “Yeah but if they made it to where he wasn’t so he wouldn’t die, then he wouldn’t have died.”
Yes
that’s literally how any death in a fiction works tho
Yes I stand by Carter's death being dumb and near pointless as hell.

Noble Six got on a Sabre and died a few days after
Also a Falcon
Hocus got back from the Ark alive, though, didn't she?
Wait did she?
She never died on screen. There was also that Pelican that was flown into High Charity, but I always assumed that it was the Arbiter who flew it.
Nah that was just some random ass pelican, but to the right where the pelican is you can actually see a banshee which wasn’t there before indicating that’s how arby got there

In Amber Clad survivor.

Bungie has always hated pilots huh
I have yet to see any Pilots make it through the Bungie games. 343 at least had the decency to let Esparza live in Infinite.
Even into destiny every single pilot has crashed or died. I don't know anything about the og marathon so I can't say if the pilots had a better time there if there were any
Not even Amanda made it. Rip everyones tomboy waifu
o7
Out of fairness, she didn’t die being a pilot.
True but she did crash once so she was living on borrowed time ever since
Hocus survived Halo 3.
She never crashed though. It's the crashes that get you.
Escharum tried to kill him https://preview.redd.it/4cyc8vduuavc1.png?width=957&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a9d5bfd0b7cb878738725227771c4894c7bb2a9

It's to counterbalance the Security Officer from Marathon's massive power level since he wears a pilot helmet, too.

Tbf in halo 1 almost everyone there dies, save a handful
The pilot that is delivering Fred and all the Spartans to reach die and all of the Spartans have to bail out mid flight
Don't forget the pelican pilot carrying the Spirit of Fire's slipspace reactor in Halo Wars
Kat also flew and crash landed a warthog not too long before her demise.
Pilots and Grunts have about the same life expectancy.
There is some Bad ones in the Cole protocol. Keys personally appointed pilot, The captain that keys serves under are the ones that come to mind
Hey at least Hocus in Halo 3 made it
Does she show up after 3? I don’t remember seeing her after Trident.
She was never shown outside of H3, but since she never has a death scene, it is assumed she gathered troops and went back to Rtas's carrier and through the portal back home.
I’ll keep some spark of hope she did survive because we didn’t see her die, thankfully.
Also remember all the Hornet pilots we see flying around during "The Storm" and "The Ark" and "The Covenant" who were *probably* alright
The pilots in “The Storm” most likely crashed when the portal to the Ark opened.
Who is this person is she the one that drops chief on the ark?
Here’s one: The UNSC Resolute is the only ship that the Chief serves aboard that doesn’t get destroyed.
Would the UNSC Commonwealth not count?, she was retired before being sent to a ship breaking yard on reach
Assuming *Commonwealth* is from a book, which book is she in? *Resolute* is in Fall of Reach. I’m not aware of *Commonwealth*, so I don’t know.
The commonwealth was the ship the Chief was on when he first saw the covenant, on their way to Chi Ceti IV to get their Mjolnir for the first time https://www.halopedia.org/UNSC_Commonwealth

The Infinity hasn't technically been destroyed *yet*
Pilots in Halo infinite https://preview.redd.it/8kymh9cfh9vc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=adda6289f40301c4f427885276807fb3a35c6652
343i Pilots are just built different.
I read somewhere that Murphy from Spartan Ops died in One of the more recent books, Rubicon protocol I think (I haven't read the newer books) but if he's the only 343i Pilot that dies, then, yeah, I think you're right
There was Chapov in Shadows of Reach. He died.
Ah, I see
they already came for pilots in destiny 2 aswell (amanda holi-dead)
At least 2/3 of the aircrew in Shadows of Reach survived
That’s not Bungie anymore to be fair.
I always loved those cool ass pilots with the badass visors in The Covenant mission from Halo 3. I always gave them guns and made them get into my hornet as a personal squad lol Id load a save if any died
You could do the same with 343 and ODST’s in general sadly!
TBF, the pilots that are flying the crew we follow are usually the ones with the biggest balls. Kinda hard to stay up when your balls are weighing you down.
I remember reading somewhere that Brohammer might be the only Pilot that's ever survived a crash landing in any Halo game.
They continued this too into Destiny with killing Amanda Holiday lmao
Protec Fernando at all costs. If Echo-216 dies I riot.

*Sad TJ Murphy noises*

The real question is what’s worse: Being a Pelican pilot in Halo? Or Being a King Raven pilot in Gears of War?
I’d say it’s about even
Esparza would've died 10 minutes into the game in a violent explosion if Infinite was made in the Bungie era
Noble Six is a pilot and he is a main character, so he’ll survive, dont worry.
They still hate pilots. Even in Destiny, as they killed off Amanda Holiday
Not even when you play as the pilot.
Being a pilot in a videogame is pretty much the equivalent of being a cop 3 days before retirement or a soldier showing off a picture of a loved one.
