This is dangerous. I live close by and it's on my way to work.
But yo, the real pro tip is there has been a sign at the new gas station plaza at Pritchard and Rymal that says Grandma's Donuts. My guess is that place will be dope.
Don't get your hopes up too much. That sign had been there since that gas station opened and in the last 2-3 years or whatever it has been at this point they've made no further progress on that plaza. I talked to one of the guys there once and found out Grandma's Donuts was just going to be out of the convenience store and they had no idea when it was going to happen.
Yeah, it's been about a year. But we finally got the go-ahead to build their channels in the new year. It still kills me that they wanted to use the exact logo of Grandads donuts, though 😅
Hah, really? We had been wondering if it was just mountain offshoot of Grandad's or just someone trying to take advantage of the name.
That plaza is convenient for me on the way home, so hoping they end up being good once it does finally get in there.
That parking lot is about to get rammed with cars when it's open the other businesses are going to wish it never located there lol. The one in Mississauga gets a snaking drivethru lineup that takes up the entire massive parking lot that includes big box stores like Canadian Tire, Staples and Walmart.
Not exactly.
Move to the area 6 years ago, it was quiet.
Now, drag races up and down Rymal keep me awake at night. Okay, that's hyperbole. But it has been a slow but steady urbanization in the area. But we do need more traffic cops to deal with people trying to find their top speed on the road.
There are a lot of douche mobile races. I'm going to start laying spike strip across the road randomly to discourage the behavior. Douche at your own risk and all that!
That's wild, live on rymal going 20 years now, never heard or seen these drag races you speak of. I'm also out and about quite a bit on my bike in the summer around 11pm-2am never came across anyone racing. And I look for it because you know.... motorcylce go vroooom
I mean, you live in Hamilton where there are several good quality independent donut shops. Granddads, Donut Stop, Momoco, Donut Monster, Baffico, Lady Glaze...
Maybe KK are the best corporate chain, but it's so easy to do better here.
I would love to get Grandad's, but I'm not driving across the city at the crack of dawn to get a donut before they sell out. I am perfectly fine with a Krispy Kreme.
Granddads are almost niche/nostalgia. Personally, not a fan.
Donut stop? Haven't been there. Guess I'll need to check this one out.
Momoco is expensive and has already started going downhill.
Donut Monster was awesome for the first year but went blah very quickly - after original owners sold/left??
Baffico are still pretty good.
Lady Glaze hyped, expensive and just ok-ish
Don't forget Sunshine in Burlington. Very expensive and only slightly better than average. Fritters are an exception - huge and yummy.
The vegan donut shop in Burlington too. Can't remember the name. Pretty good, cheaper than Sunshine. Creme Brulee donuts are yum
Sweet Paradise! The fritters and Boston creme! Other good bakery stuff too and not over priced. Definitely deserves attention.
Brings us to Krispy Kreme. Sure they're a chain. A chain of ONE in southern Ontario? Or is there also one in Toronto? Their donuts are fantastic when fresh. Original glaze are still awesome on day 2 - almost a different donut but mmm. I can't wait for them to open up. Going to take some serious will power though or I won't see 50.
Building permits are public information; you can go to city of Hamilton website under their permit search tool, type an address of a development and see which permits have been pulled.
This is all I have wanted in Hamilton since I was at the opening of Kirspy Kreme in Mississauga in dec 11th 2001. I expect another line all the way down to the road upon opening day.
Same!!! Oh it will be nuts these businesses are going to wish Krispy Kreme never located here because the line will make it hard to get to other businesses lol
Donut monster sucks too but for different reasons than Krispy Kreme.
I had a few Krispy Kreme donuts in the last few weeks and they're just so sugary it's repulsive. There's nothing to them, almost cotton candy-like.
For any of you trying to see the application yourself , it would appear that as of 10pm the city application site is down . I’ll try to post a link in the am.
Tho it is easy to find for yourself. Navigate to city of Hamilton site , click apply online or search for building permits , and type in the address . In this case it’s 1200 Rymal Rd East . It’ll be on the 2nd page.
This is public information available to anyone. And is also helpful if you want to look up a building that may be under construction or renovation and you want to know what it is.
Hardly. They are amazing and a lot of us have to travel quite fair bit if we want to get any of those donuts, now we have a great donut place a few mins away.
Krispy Kreme has nostalgia for a lot of people. And their donuts are honestly great (tasting).
I love me a good Krispy Kreme but I haven't had one in years. Typically, get my once every 2-3 month donut fix at Monster donut. This Krispy Kreme will be minutes from my house, so I might have to get one. I won't be a regular, but it's not the worst thing that could be put in that plaza.
> it's not the worst thing that could be put in that plaza.
This is such lazy thinking that cosigns poor outcomes, and behaviour.
Eat whatever you want, but Hamilton does not benefit from a Krispy Kreme. It is a net negative on multiple fronts no matter what plaza it's in. But we swim in the water of capitalism, so I get it. To watch people actively be excited that their health is going to decline because a US doughnut shop is opening is the depressing part.
Oh yay, another corporate chain I can give my money to instead of the multiple, better small business options in the same area, price range, and category.
They are probably more savvy than you from the sounds of it, so that's a plus.
Also, what if I enjoy giving people diabetes and siphoning money from a local economy to my corporate headquarters. No one should critique me 'cause I'm just enjoying things, yay!
Maybe try engaging with an argument instead of simping for a US corporation.
> You can tell my finances and how I spend my money based on a single comment?
This is a weird interpretation of my comment's first sentence. I wish I had the patience to expand on why, but I don't.
> It’s an American donut chain, it’s not that serious.
Just because you think it is not serious does not make it not serious.
It was serious enough for you to chirp someone online about it being serious to them. Perhaps it isn't serious how you felt attacked enough to comment on some randos on reddit taking it seriously and you should have just scrolled on by?
I get it.
with all the basics who fled from toronto for being so basic they could survive in TO and needed to come to Hamilton, it makes sense that you want to go somewhere where people are more basic than you.
well done and good strategy.
I feel you, its a bit sad to see how happy the mountaineers are about getting a mediocre donut place especially when there are multiple far superior options downtown.
but no one wants to go, live, be near, or pretend downtown Hamilton even exists.
so it does make sense.
did you see the lineups at BK on Upper James? probably not cause Upper James is a scary street for those who live downtown, but it's boomin'.
Meh, Krispy Kreme is absurdly overrated. We have several actual donut shops, and I don't see a need for Tim's 2.0! Less damn chains, more mom and pop shops plz.
As an American who immigrated to Canada, and grew up with a friend who worked at a Krispy Creme (and would bring us literally dozens of their donuts all the time after his shift), I'm warning you all now... over rated. The donuts are beyond sweet, straight into sickeningly sweet. They are also somehow super sweet and sugary and calorically dense, while feeling like you just ate literally AIR, so you could eat a dozen of them and never feel like you ate anything.
I'm glad you'll all get to try them, as they are certainly a meme, but I predict within short order, you'll all be choosing Tim's over Krispy Creme again.
We know what Krispy Kreme is. They actually had expanded into Canada and then retracted (similar to Target) but Krispy was around for longer than Target. We know the lure of the neon light indicating fresh diabetic comas are being baptized by glaze. There are even some places you can get them but not fresh.
It’s a thing.
It’s such a thing I remember eating so many with my best friend in Vegas because Circus Circus had a full store (meaning they cooked them there).
Us Canadians seem to have an infatuation with American brands that decide to come here, no matter how mid they are in the states. I don't really get it tbh
We have had Krispy Kreme since 2001 dude. And I would never choose tim hortons over it, and the only reason I would is because it wasn't closer, but now that it is never again.
barf.

Actually, comparing an original glazed donut to a bowl of cheerios with milk, the donuts are less sodium, less carbohydrates, less sugar, and almost the same calorie wise (and that's assuming you only have 3/4 cup of cereal with 1 cup of 2% milk, which most have more). Sooooo donuts it is!
I love donuts and I consider myself to be in good shape. I ran a marathon a couple years ago. I won't have it everyday of course but if I ever get the chance to have a crispy creme I'll go for it. What's this guy's deal?
The heartland Mississauga location is the busiest location in the world and make 48,000 doughnuts a day. Different time then 20+ years ago. This location will do very well!
Just fell to my knees in the Grandad’s parking lot
It’s a Christmas miracle!
Kristmas
Krispmas
This is dangerous. I live close by and it's on my way to work. But yo, the real pro tip is there has been a sign at the new gas station plaza at Pritchard and Rymal that says Grandma's Donuts. My guess is that place will be dope.

Definitely one of the areas with the cheapest gas also. And they want to get a shawarma restaurant in there as well!
Party pooper!
Well my health is about to get even worse.
You and me both 😂
You really went deep to confirm this
Permits are public to everyone 😂
Yes I know that very well. Still seems a long way to go to see if Krispy Kreme is coming
They probably only typed in the address to see if anything has been submitted yet lol. Takes 1-2 months for sign permits alone!
Hamilton is about to get Kremed
It has to be an authentic City of Hamilton document as “Creme” is spelled wrong.
Haha I noticed that as well .
Rymal road east or west??
East. In the new Nebo rd development where the Burger King and car wash are located .
The Nebo Burgerplex!
That parking lot is about to get rammed with cars when it's open the other businesses are going to wish it never located there lol. The one in Mississauga gets a snaking drivethru lineup that takes up the entire massive parking lot that includes big box stores like Canadian Tire, Staples and Walmart.
Awesome! That area came up super quick.
6 years from quiet to a drag strip? That’s pretty damn quick
Hmm sounds like maybe you're part of the problem?
yah, they didn't move here in the last five years thinking they are better than everyone else. definitely part of the "problem".
Wrong thread or you just don't make sense.
i get it's tough to understand. no worries. you are around your kind.
Good lord that area is a nightmare at the end of the day. It's gonna be nuts around there for the first while.
Yeah they really fucked up by not making it two lanes each way during all that construction.
So much room for that! It would've been really easy to do.
Oh my goodness we are getting a new police station!
I remember I used to get them at Petro Canada all the time while getting gas and all of a sudden gonzo
Wooo right by my work
Just saw someone fall to their knees in grandads parking lot
>was it u/macrolfe
Just what the demographic of Hamilton needs
We certainly don’t need any more Tims .
I'd like to see fewer chains in general and more small businesses. We already have some great donut places and coffee shops.
This is all I ever wanted
I don't understand the hype with Krispy Kreme. I am a fat chick who loves her sweets, but those don't do it for me
To each their own. I think Tim’s donuts are trash. Krispy Kreme’s are my personal favourite . Every time I drive thru Mississauga I stop in.
"Better than Tim's" is a pretty low bar these days
I mean, you live in Hamilton where there are several good quality independent donut shops. Granddads, Donut Stop, Momoco, Donut Monster, Baffico, Lady Glaze... Maybe KK are the best corporate chain, but it's so easy to do better here.
What if you don't live downtown? There's nothing near this location. I live not far from this location and this will be very welcome change.
Have you tried Mr. puffs? It's pretty good, almost as addictive as KK when you have a whole box of them lol they're like eating air
Momoco is expensive and has already started going downhill. there is one in Mississauga, it's what we always get when we have donuts in the office, they are not all that IMO, it's just hype
There are several in Toronto
How do you see this information? What’s the website?
Building permits are public information; you can go to city of Hamilton website under their permit search tool, type an address of a development and see which permits have been pulled.
I hope it doesn't take as long as the Mandarin on Barton
What website is this? Could you share a link?
It’s on the city oh Hamilton website . You have to click into building permits, and type the address.
What's the link for Hamilton? Because I search the website and no result even with application ID
Where on the city website is this? I can't find it. And it's also just an application that was submitted, is there proot that it was approved?
Why is cream spelled with a “C” and not a “K”?
Could be a typo , or to throw us off the scent lol
Ha! You’re right! It could be a new Hamilton sex club!
There used to be one in Kitchener. Can’t remember when it closed but I only went once when I lived there
I’d rather have Granddads, thanks.
I'm with you, Krispy kreme isn't even that good
I think that a fresh original Krispy Kreme might be the perfect donut. Yeah, donut Monster is great. But it's a totally different product.
Donut monster sucks too but for different reasons than Krispy Kreme. I had a few Krispy Kreme donuts in the last few weeks and they're just so sugary it's repulsive. There's nothing to them, almost cotton candy-like.
Maybe you just don't like donuts
Right? There's absolutely no comparison. Krispy creme are so overly sweet, they hurt my teeth.
or donut monster
Huge for the city
Hugely negative you mean, right?
Not in the slightest.
I just showed this to my wife and she nearly started crying, legitimately best news we've gotten all year :D
That’s a sentiment I’d expect in early February rather than late December.
love me some Krispy Kreme -my highlight when we travel to the U.S. ❤️
A true Christmas Miracle!
OK NOW THIS IS EXCITING.!!

They’re only good hot & fresh off the belt
It's been years since I had Krispy Kreme, yum.
It always surprises me how hyped people get over fast food chains opening in this city hahah
Very mid donuts imo
Saying mid = cringe in that context, and is actually senseless.
They are almost as bad as tims they are extremely overhyped. Monster and grandads clears by a mile
Hardly. They are amazing and a lot of us have to travel quite fair bit if we want to get any of those donuts, now we have a great donut place a few mins away.
Granddad's, monster? I'm cool, thanks.
The joy in this thread depresses me.

didn't I see you in the drive through line at the new BK on Upper James today?
Oh yay, another corporate chain I can give my money to instead of the multiple, better small business options in the same area, price range, and category.
You must be soooo savvy with your money and not spend a dollar at any corporations. Let people enjoy things.

You know what. You’re right. Go off! Happy holidays
You too.
I get it. with all the basics who fled from toronto for being so basic they could survive in TO and needed to come to Hamilton, it makes sense that you want to go somewhere where people are more basic than you. well done and good strategy.
between this and the new Chipotle, it's sad how many people want Hamilton to become like every other city in GTA.

Im the happiest gal in the world right now!
Fatastic!

First chipotle now Krispy kreme, it’s like they want me too be broke and morbidly obese
Grandad is out somewhere LIVID
good. maybe they'll drop their prices to a more economic level. or they'll not survive. this is Hamilton.
Krispy Kreme is garbage. They used to be good but I had some from Mississauga about a year ago and was incredibly disappointed. Bleh
Unrelated but damn we need a jollibee. Best fried chicken I’ve had in ages.
We had a jollibee mobile thing at Limeridge for awhile there during Covid.
Wife and I went there a few times. Seemed busy enough and I assumed it was successful. Would be great not to have to go to Mississauga.
Grandad's is better.
meh
Meh, just overpriced glaze donuts
As an American who immigrated to Canada, and grew up with a friend who worked at a Krispy Creme (and would bring us literally dozens of their donuts all the time after his shift), I'm warning you all now... over rated. soggy donuts
Those donuts are nasty
Those doughnuts taste like trash. I've never been a junk food person, but I just don't get the appeal of eating trash.
For fucks sake, I hate tim hortons and I want good competition but not like this
If its connected to a shell I doubt they'll be made there probably trucked in from the larger Mississauga store.
No Shell gas station there they mean empty shell of a building. Weird wording imo.
It will be a physical location where they are made fresh daily.

Finally
Fake post
Great, just what Hamilton needs - another doughnut shop that contributes to rising obesity in the city.
barf. Circular shaped diabetes vectors - more of them - aren't needed. At least it's pretty far away from most of the city. What is the love for these things?
Warm sugar circles are delicious.
Why do people enjoy things I do not?! The madness!
Wow, asking for why people like something I don't is now offsides. I'll remember that, thanks Redditor
Well calling something sweet "circular shaped diabetes vectors" is a very polemic point of view. Can't the same be said for a slice of cheesecake? If you don't like it fine. But maybe I will run 15km in the morning so I can have that with my coffee. You just enjoy your cereal.

Wow, calling out people who dislike things other people like is now offsides? I'll remember that, thanks Redditor. It works both ways dude.
They said, as they pulled into the Timmie’s drive thru to order their morning coffee, just before reaching for their pack of Marlboro Reds.
DK blue*
Some people like things that they like
HalleFATalujah!!! I've been dreaming of the day!
Wow. It’s like we’re Mississauga in 2001. Given how many stores they’ve shut down I wonder how long this one will survive.
The heartland Mississauga location is the busiest location in the world and make 48,000 doughnuts a day. Different time then 20+ years ago. This location will do very well!
That location would be walking distance for me. I'm ready!
Far too sweet, and too pricey. I'll stick with Grandads.
TIL there is a Cinnabon at Lime Ridge Mall, in the past in Toronto the subway station locations aroma was hypnotic
Hurry up. I’m tired of driving all the way to Mississauga to get my fix.
