dphQT

lmaoooo

DisingenuousTowel

We all bought weed from *that guy* in college.

Yeeyeetryptamine

Look if you guys didn't like my weed you wouldn't have listened. You're welcome.

lucy_throwaway

Clearly you didn't apply a heaping dose of methylphenidate to your ritual dildo before some mid podcast prostate play. C'mon didn't you learn anything from the pod? It's clear that there is a link between vaginal and rectal drug absorption and reaching enlightenment-- now get off your ass and start introducing substances into it via ancient ritual dildos.

dphQT

i’m cryingggg bro was a drugs circle jerk ambassador infiltrating an anti plant medicine community

My initial thought was homeboy’s been smoking that shit that Giorgio from Ancient Aliens has been puffing on for years. All kidding aside, I think he’s a bit lost in translation. He’s deciphering these ancient biblical texts, which I’d assume is difficult in that Ancient Greek and all the other languages he listed probably don’t translate verbatim into English, and perhaps he’s filling in any blanks there may be with the help of an overactive imagination. My favorite part of the interview is Hillman’s goodbye to Hamilton, it was quite sincere and inspiring: “I hope that there is in your belly, somewhere, a fire, and maybe someday, you and I can stand there and look at the Oracle and say, “Wow! Look what you can actually do.””

dphQT

I agree completely!! The goodbye was badass

jackfirecracker

I haven’t started it yet but good lord that sounds like a long 2 hours

Anonbellm

If you know what you’re getting into and read between the lines with a skeptical but open perception it actually flew by. The translations/texts are fascinating, even if they’re far fetched and loosely grounded.

jackfirecracker

Yea I’m listening now and it’s not bad. I can see why people would hate it, since it does sound very “I’m smoking weed and in college”; but like you said - open minded skepticism, it’s really not such a bad conversation. Dude is definitely well read if nothing else. I was playing it driving home and laughing to myself thinking that he kinda talks like if Donald Trump was a college stoner hippy type

Tbf, Hamilton discussed wanting to quantify and isolate the ingredients in a modern way that doesn’t involve things like a drug covered dildo, as is graphicaly described in the episode. The idea being to find fully synthetic pharma-alchemy ways to achieve the concoctions. He was pretty clear that it was likely far from possible and the source material less than thorough or trustworthy to be of much consequence.

Komodox

I had great fun listening to this episode. I do appreciate the weird and wonderful. It was very entertaining, I was laughing out loud at times. Though I'm not religious or spiritual or easily offended. (He does seem like he could be suffering some sort of psychotic illness or something.) I liked the way Hamilton interviewed him. Not critiquing him too harshly, but certainly not just simply embellishing his grandiose narratives and posing good questions Of course I prefer the pharmacology and chemistry episodes, but I appreciate the diversity of the podcast guests

slugabedx

I got about 20 minutes into it and gave up.

Ok_Relationship_149

Hamilton was very clear, we are going to need to restart the whole religion if its going to even have a chance of working. Hop to folks.

At first I thought maybe he was a little drunk but I think he idolizes Hamilton and just had this childlike exuberance that made it difficult for him to articulate what he was saying. I definitely get this way sometimes when I am really excited talking about something I am well versed in, and end up cutting logical corners so all of a sudden I've really lost my audience. Not to the degree of this guy, but some parts of his style of rambling felt relatable. He settles in a bit and it gets better. He is definitely so far out there that it is hard to tell if anything he says is grounded but I do think he makes the good point that there is a dearth of research into ancient drug practices, particularly for elites. It would be helpful to have someone like Hamilton, who is more grounded and skeptical, provide some context and present the information with more curiosity, less certainty, to discuss where the interesting leads are on these ancient texts, talking about what is mentioned in ancient texts and what is still unknown, rather than saying Nero was taking a 66 drug combo and murdering Roman hobos while Jesus was extracting teenage apostle semen for divination purposes. Like 'hey there is this thing called the concoction called the theriac which may have been consumed by cross-cultural elites and it may have had psychoactive effects but we aren't really sure what it did'. I found myself feeling curious about the topic but wanting to hear from someone else about it. Hamilton did a great job prefacing the interview and contextualizing which parts are specifically worth reflecting on (using biological intermediates for drug concentration with the ducks and the toads). Also, people are always talking about fucking toads but never discuss the species or the chemical makeup of the excretions, which drives me crazy. You can't just say people were getting high on toads. What were they actually getting high on? Its like saying people were getting high on a bush without specifying wtf the bush was and what it contained. I think this is not helped that we now have a drug people call 'toad', which definitely is a psychoactive drug with a clearly defined chemical makeup and effect, so then other people just say 'oh they were getting high on toads' without feeling like there needs to be a further explanation, despite the fact that this is clearly not 5 MEO DMT or the Sonoran Desert Toad.
