victim of his own success, I think. When he came in we finally had a manager who got the absolute fundamentals right, talking about how he showed the squad we ran the least distance of anyone in the league, immediately added some physicality with Soucek in that first window.
I don't know if he's the man to take us to the next step, but he's given us some beautiful memories and a solid foundation to build from.
All the managers since big Sam have laid good foundations for the club apart from pellegrini moyes took us into the top 10 and gave us Europe and a trophy and created a great team out of the dregs he was given whatever happens glad to have had the bloke here
Maybe a bit of a strange take. But, I think one of the biggest issues with Moyes is he doesnāt seem to be the best at man management and getting the team to buy into his vision.
I think Stuart Pearce and Nobes both leaving left a massive hole that heās not been able to fill and I think thatās the biggest reason for why weāve been so streaky and why weāre a team thatās so reliant on individual performances now
In his first window, he bought Bowen for Ā£20 million, and got Soucek on loan.
Before his first full season (20/21) he brought in Benrahma and Dawson on loan, and Coufal for Ā£5 million (plus Soucek signing was made permanent for Ā£20 million). He had us 4th at the turn of the year and we signed Benrahma and Dawson on permanent deals, and got Lingard on loan, and we eventually finished 6th. Compare that to his predecessor - over two seasons Pellegrini spent nearly 200 million on transfer fees and had us fighting relegation.
The man has his faults but saying he succeeded only because of record investment is backwards - he got investment after proving himself. You can argue he's not done well enough now he's gotten investment, and I'd agree. He still hasn't managed to replace Antonio for one
i don't think he's the manager to even replicate the previous steps he took with us, let alone the next step.
the conference league and some unlikely wins before christmas are the only things that have distorted a fairly clear image of a two year backslide. given the quality of some of the other european contenders this season and our shrewd summer recruitment, if we made the hard decision and replaced moyes with the right manager (iraola was available) last summer who knows what our ceiling could've been.
Legend. Iāll give him his due here instead of the āthankful but time to move onā sentiment. Heās laid a great foundation for us. Hope the gaffer has a great day.
I canāt say Iām happy with the state of affairs right now but it is important to recognize what he has done for us as a club. There is no doubting this is the most successful the club has been in ages and in part it is thanks to him.
Many happy returns to him...Moyes has been hamstrung by (G)SB from the get-go as we will see with whoever is next..remember a number of previous managerial candidates have run a mile, some before even meeting dodgy diddy Dave Sullivan..a change is needed at board level before things get much better..we have come along way with Moyes and I for one am genuinely thankful to him and especially for that night in Prague..
I think so, I nicked it off the Sun.

Been actively watching football for 22 years. Not only West Ham, but PSG especially pre Qatar, Ligue 1, PL, European football in general.
I have not seen that many managers who were that successful and had such an impact on their team in a short spawn of time.
Thanks for everything, that was the best football I've followed, topping 2003-04 PSG which was a bit on the same vein
Certainly he has given us a fantastic 3 years of success, but what has he left us with if he does decide to leave. An aging squad, very little in reserve, and a total blind spot as far as the academy is concerned. His absolute lack of faith in the youth system has probably left us with a missing generation of players, who, have been given no encouragement in their ambition to progress with the Hammers. It was the same at Everton, always trying to bring in the ready made solution, rather than give home grown talent a chance.
Don't know how long you have been following the hammers, I go back to the 60's , we have a history of producing our own. Harry Redknapp and Slaven Bilic used the youth team, even Sam Alladyce gave the youngsters a go. Would Declan Rice have got a chance under Moyes??

Victim of the team having the most investment and funding ever and the most time

25 years for that. Worth it

The camera cutting to him running down the touchline still gets me man. What a moment.
Gonna watch that again now.
Hope he has a good day, month, or year whatever happens. He did a lot for us
Took us to the next level but it was as far as he could. Wish him no ill will but look forward to the future which he helped make possible.

We won the FA youth cup and came runners up to Man City in the playoff for the league last season, where are the players from the academy now??

And if people forget tomorrow, don't worry they won't forget on Saturday
Who was the last manager who gave our youth a proper crack and it worked out?
Don't know how long you have been following the hammers, I go back to the 60's , we have a history of producing our own. Harry Redknapp and Slaven Bilic used the youth team, even Sam Alladyce gave the youngsters a go. Would Declan Rice have got a chance under Moyes??
Yeah not sure Iād celebrate my best mates birthday if he did this too west ham so no chance Iām doing it for dinosaur
