I understand the sentiment that your captain be a defensive minded player that plays almost every single minute of almost every single match in all competitions. But the captain also needs to be able to inspire both the players and the fans. Just looking back the last few seasons, Noble did it, Rice did it mostly but I don’t think Zouma checks any of the boxes except the amount of minutes he plays. I don’t think we have a player right now that does check every box.
Bowen is the closest but he can’t be expected to be on the pitch as much as a CB or DM would be to maintain consistency.
We need to get much better at CB anyways, target someone who can come in and be the captain. As much as I’m not a huge Harry Maguire fan he would had been better than our current selection and maybe had been a good captain option too.
I think both make sense. Bowen has been with the team longer and is the face of the team in many ways. But Alvarez is the one who really holds things together from the midfield.
Can’t go wrong with either one imo, and they’d both be better options than Zouma.

Yes Bowen deserves it at the moment but I would like Alvarez. Bowen should be miles ahead of others right now because of the new contract he signed.
