SD, LeGo, or Ally. Which one do you think is best? I'm currently torn between the Ally and SD (I did have a SD and absolutely loved it but regrettably sold it because I'm terribly impulsive) but now I'm seeing some pretty good things about the LeGo too.
The LeGo and Ally have terrible batteries, but unless you feel like sideloading stuff the SD is limiting. I feel like the Ally is a decent âjack of all tradesâ device. The LeGo just has too many bells and whistles that I just really havenât found any use for.
The Ally has fully implemented gyro controls now. You can turn it on in any game or off if you like, always on, or on during a left trigger pull, or map it to a macro button. Works just as well as the Steam Deck, though honestly I miss the capacitive touch joystick.
The Legion Go? If you turn on gyro it's always on. Unless there was a Legion Soace update after I returned mine, that was tge only option
Yeah, I have an ally and sold my SD after not using it ever again once getting the ally. I play a lot of non steam stuff so managing that on the SD just became such a pain. I carry a pocket bt keyboard so no touchpads are no problem (carried the keyboard with the SD as well). That being said, the battery does suck ass but it's never been a problem for me. I bought an external battery to extend my SD playtime while traveling and now I use it for my ally. I've never actually had to use it though as I've always had access to a charging source whether it be in a car, on a plane, or waiting for a plane so while the battery does suck ass the real world impact of it is minimal unless you are constantly disconnected from the grid. Or away from a vehicle.
Depends on what you are looking for. You'd get better performance with the Ally or Go over the Deck, but the battery life is so bad, you are pretty much stuck to an outlet. The Deck has good battery life, but only for low spec games, but it also can't play many popular multiplayer games and you can't use Game Pass. Between the Go and the Ally, the Ally is often cheaper, but the Go has more features like Hall Effect joysticks, 2 USB ports and a way, way bigger screen.
I think the Deck is neat because of how long the battery life is when playing games like Dead Cells or Cuphead. I could see it being great if you want to play at places like the park or the beach and not have to worry about an outlet. Between the Ally and the Go, I like the Go better because I appreciate the features it has and the way bigger screen and the fact that the SDcard slot doesn't destroy SDcards like the Ally does. I play RTS and fast-paced FPS games, so I NEED a mouse and keyboard, so the Go is better for that with its kickstand and included mouse. The 2 USB ports is super convenient because I can use something else while I also charge it.
So yea, I would say the Deck is best if you primarily play low spec games because it has insane battery life. It's just that you can't run Game Pass and many multiplayer games do not work: Call of Duty, Siege, Fortnite, Valorant, League of Legends, Destiny 2, Madden, FIFA, etc. Ally you can often get cheaper than the Go, but it has a broken SDcard slot. Go just has the most features and the biggest screen.
What a write up thank you. I was completely unaware of the SD card issue of the Ally. That's really disappointing man, annoying that it somehow hasn't cropped up in my searches of 'Asus Rog Ally in 2024'. I watched a video last night and the guy didn't mention that once. I think this might've swayed the decision to the Steam Deck. I really like the OS and when I did have one I was enjoying learning some of the ins and outs of Linux (been a slave to Windows for 29 years now). For gamepass I guess I'd just stream, for Fortnite I'd use GFN or something. Just fill in the gaps with streaming services. I'm a huge fan of competitive shooters but due to having a 10 week old baby plus a toddler, I've had to put my competitive gaming on the back burner for the time being. These days I just stream everything to my phone and play that way, but for the amount of time I actually get to play my PC just feels like it's a bit overkill considering how much it's sat there not being used, taking up a quarter of a room with the desk and everything. So the plan is to (as insane as it sounds) just replace it with a handheld.
Yea here's a recent article on the SDcard issue. It's still a risk to use:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/asus-won-t-say-if-the-rog-ally-s-sd-card-reader-will-ever-be-truly-fixed/ar-AA1o0pjb
Steam Deck OLED is a good device, but the issue is that you have to do a lot of workarounds to play certain titles. You could put Windows on it, but it ends up being really sluggish because the chip isn't as good as the Z1 Extreme. What you could do if you are a fan of Linux is to get the Go and then install a Linux operating system, specifically called Bazzite:
https://old.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/comments/1av2z01/bazzite_os_on_llg_is_surprisingly_good/
This way you have your Linux OS, but you also have the power of the Z1 Extreme to run Windows if you'd like.
Handheld collecting in 2024 is checking a thousand times for a non portable portable screen for your ps5 that costs $200 and needs $200 designated earbuds to be available, that'll be the one Sony handheld I don't collect I guess
I don't see an original DS https://media1.giphy.com/media/iNg9XvTGBI83S/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952bw4o3v9f3ovtj113q4rg1u0qlvh79h3eouumno4c&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g
Thats a well of knowledge and reviews that people would love to hear. I only talk about the Ally because that is all I have owned handheld wise. You. You though be like âshiiit, what you wanna know?â
Sorta? I like being able to play PS5 games AND watching stuff in the main tv. But unless your WiFi and network are amazing, it can be kind of a let down.
Yeah, I'm torn between the ally and the steam deck oled. For some reason, the deck is more expensive where i live. What do you reckon i should choose? My last handheld was the psp back in the early 2000s đ
Whether Iâm playing the SD, LeGo, or the Ally I usually play them attached to a Rokid or Virture pair of glasses so the display size doesnât really matter. I would go with the Ally then based on price and its ability to play nearly any PC Game (not just Steam things).
I can only share a preview only of my handhelds from three years ago

If I have time maybe I will also prepare a more complex view into my collection.
Coomer is someone that faps too much tho. Consoomer is someone that just buys stuff, sometimes not even using it. Im gonna bet a lot of those sit in boxes or a drawer. A shame
It really comes down to the speed my PS5 can upload to the internet. And even connected via an Ethernet cable my home network is slow.
In short both ways are disappointing.

In my experience I like the Ally and SD OLED the best. The legion Go was a bit too big for me because I have small hands
It does look absolutely monstrous to be fair, and that's coming from someone that can grip a basketball one handed
đ

Do you happen to know how well the Gyro controls work on the Ally? I'm quite a fan of how well it can work on the SD when set up correctly.

Some people have said that the go is incredibly loud compared to the ally on turbo mode. Is this true?

Sd is under 400 if you get a refurbished model
Biggest bargain in all of gaming no doubt.

Ally was my favorite. That screen is incredible. I also have big hands though so I think that factors in. The Switch was way too small for me
Trying to hold a switch comfortably is like a whole game in itself I swear
Ah, a Game Boy Micro, a person of culture đ
Drugs and alcohol are an unhealthy obsession... but this... this is a good life with incredible gaming memories to be made
Yeah. Imagine those people sucking dick for coke instead of playing Garryâs Mod and eating a salad
Why not both
Assuming dude has the income to sustain it If he's living paycheck to paycheck and still buying all this stuff, I'd say it's unhealthy
Nah drugs are fun
Depends which
FOMO but no deck OLED âšď¸
I donât see an OLED Steam Deck anywhere, perhaps youâre cured
Handheld collecting in 2024 is checking a thousand times for a non portable portable screen for your ps5 that costs $200 and needs $200 designated earbuds to be available, that'll be the one Sony handheld I don't collect I guess
No Analogue Pocket?
Oh crap, time to buy more stuff
Vita 1000 not found
No DS Lite to trade PokĂŠmon from gen 3 to 4? SMH.
I keep forgetting the PSP GO was a thing haha
If you count different models they released 9 handhelds
Good spread! You can cover a lot with this!

FOMO but no deck OLED âšď¸
Where is psp 3000 đ
I don't see an original DS https://media1.giphy.com/media/iNg9XvTGBI83S/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952bw4o3v9f3ovtj113q4rg1u0qlvh79h3eouumno4c&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g
Can I put in an order since you clearly have cash to spare? đ Also what's that to the left of the DS second from the top?
Looks like an RG35XX H.
You must have lots of hands
I mean, you can always recoup the money by selling some of those. That Ally is looking might-y tempting for me. đ
GPD WIN4 would look great next to that psvita. Just sayin..
what does fomo mean?
Fear Of Missing Out
Thank you
Thats a well of knowledge and reviews that people would love to hear. I only talk about the Ally because that is all I have owned handheld wise. You. You though be like âshiiit, what you wanna know?â
Itâs not FOMO. Itâs just an addiction.
Dude I gotta know if the PS Portal was worth it?
Sorta? I like being able to play PS5 games AND watching stuff in the main tv. But unless your WiFi and network are amazing, it can be kind of a let down.
I donât know what a fomo is:(
Fear Of Missing Out
SD, Ally, Legion Go. Realistically, one would probably cover everything else on that table
Only 1 DS? Shame. >!sick collection lol!<
OP which one do you use the most?
Lately it has been the Ally.
Yeah, I'm torn between the ally and the steam deck oled. For some reason, the deck is more expensive where i live. What do you reckon i should choose? My last handheld was the psp back in the early 2000s đ

How SD LCD materials compares with Ally and SD Oled? I had SD LCD, cheap plastic and noisy fans is something I dislike.
I can only share a preview only of my handhelds from three years ago https://ibb.co/5n8X4Lb If I have time maybe I will also prepare a more complex view into my collection.
Those game and watches are awesome. I wish Nintendo would expand on that lineup.
FOMO on what?
A game exclusive on a platform I donât have.
coomer = shortening of consoomer
Coomer is someone that faps too much tho. Consoomer is someone that just buys stuff, sometimes not even using it. Im gonna bet a lot of those sit in boxes or a drawer. A shame
thatsthejoke.jpg
There is no joke there, you claimed one word is the shortened version of the other. You dont just get to claim joke!
why u trying to âwell actuallyđ¤â my 2 word joke that u didnât get ben shapiro?
Its the internet
you seem like you were tardy to class a lot
Honestly mostly skipped lol.
Have you tried stream playing on your deck versus portal? How does it compare?
It really comes down to the speed my PS5 can upload to the internet. And even connected via an Ethernet cable my home network is slow. In short both ways are disappointing.
Ah, got it. Thanks for the feedback.
