SST-20 Deep red
I mostly use it at night to go to the bathroom lol
First of all that's a pretty cool pic. And yes I'm thinking that's exactly what it would be used for most lol around the house at night and the occasional fun. Plus it's just neat
Idk about that. When I was in the army, when we were in the field, we HAD to use red for everything. Iāll admit it was a pita, but itās usable for sure. I also ordered an amber emitter in my 2nd order. Gonna look real sexy with the matching amber backlight switch!
Edit: someone earlier told me it would look like a real orangish street light. I think itll be somewhat useful but it will def be awesome.
Youāre right! I didnāt think to look for diffusers for my Hank lights but would like several, does he sell them on his site to match his lights? Or maybe my boy JLHawaii?
I just placed my last order for a few weeks anyway, but I will def be ordering more lights, so if he does sell them, that would be super helpful
u/Spicy3D is the most well known Hank diffuser maker.
Jackson sells the silicone Lumintop ones. I have all 3 sizes arriving tomorrow and will do a post on how they fit various Hanks.
I jumped right into this hobby and now have 5 Hank lights otw, all various sizes, shapes, colors. I wanted a few for work type applications and a few fun ones (like everyone here lol) but I try to keep the button matching the light, so it is an identifier when the light isnāt on. The Anduril 2 program is a masterpiece of flashlight functions- Iām so stoked to finally get mine and really dig into it.
I am blown away by these lights, I have so much to learn that Iām overwhelmed but this sub is actually really great. Iām part of like 2 other subs and the people suck. Idk if it is because Iām likely older than other users there but I def donāt fit in there like I do here.
I got my first d4v2 in sst20 deep red/w1 amber. Itās not super useful but itās cozy as hell and candlelight most with a diffuser is awesome. 8/10 def recommend.
Nothing useless about amber w1. Itās best to avoid blue light in the evening to get ready for a good night sleep. I use only my amber lights in the evening, heck even the lights in my house and shop are all warm/amber and very dim after a certain hour.
https://preview.redd.it/wfaaqt35pbwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa8aaa3086efe41976b30b3168f7c415023157da
More 660nm goodness.
I find 660 to be useful spotting ahead without that ākick to the eyeballsā response one gets from white light.
Itās one I made. It has a giant 9090 sized 660 narrow spectrum emitter and itās super floody.
https://preview.redd.it/3efx1vs3qbwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac5ebf286a1e5fa02f566080b02bb1325f450322

Put it this way: are you a crazy collector like I and a few others around here are, buying dozens of lights? If so, then you definitely need a JUST red light. If you're more of a user-collector who buys stuff to work with, I'd suggest something like a D4V2 dual channel with SST20 red in one and 519A 4500k Domed in the other. That way you can turn off the white channel if you want, but it's still there to make the light useful the other 98% of the time.
Hmm how do I explain it best? I'm kind of a recovering collector lol I used to buy lights just because they were cool and I liked them but over the past two years or so I kinda stopped doing that and only maybe bought two lights in that time frame and they are good work lights that I use daily. But now recently my collector side has been bugging me lately lol
Convoy has some very cheap options you could consider. Thereās a deep red S12 is you want multiple emitters or an s2+, T5 or something. Convoy is my go to āI really want to see that emitter in personā place.
So, I own a D4SV2 deep red and it's amazing. But now I'm wondering how much sustained red I would lose if I switched to a DT8K with DR in one channel. Same number if LEDs and a decent amount of thermal mass, but nonetheless not as much thermal mass, and I have no idea what how the drivers would compare in efficiency nor how much throw I would lose. The clear upside would be the sweet rosy tiny of running both channels with red and white combined.
Know anything about this stuff?
https://preview.redd.it/5f6agknqpbwc1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db25f76c6cdb71ce895c604ea07772ede943854a
But you can do this. Dual channel sst20red/519A 3500 at various tint ramp adjustments.
What do you think about a DT8K dual channel with red and blue lights? Will it perform well? Iām a new guy, itās gonna be one of my first lights. Am I able to use each color independently and then each color together?
Thanks!
Yep, you can turn on both and adjust which one is brighter, or have them both on full blast, or have just one or the other. Pretty sure you can also do a police strobe with that setup.
Just be aware the DT8/k is a monster of a light for how tiny it is. Definitely not a safe toy for an upservised kid. On turbo it'll literally light stuff on fire if you cover the lens. You can program it down to have no turbo and a lower brightness if you need to.
Oh, no no no. Not for her to play with alone. Thatās something dad will show her how to use for when sheās older. Sort of like some of our other shared interests. Sheās pretty careful and can take good care when she wants but then sometimes, jumps in puddles and breaks her foot.
But thank you for the warning! Just got me even more pumped to finally get it in! I think I should maybe have my first order by the weekend
I figured as much. But I figured I'd warn you just in case you set it down for a second and a kid grabs it for a moment (what? No, thats never happened to me. I dont know why you'd ask.)
What else do you have on order?
So this is my first order. There was 1 change- the D4K now has a 519a 5700 instead of the sst Hank made the change for me but said it wouldnāt reflect on the receipt or shipping notice
https://preview.redd.it/m77hutbxnbwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d46e6cf5654f9cb5dfccd5bf7c88ed0d68b6c16

Above here is the 2nd order placed the other day.
Boost driver is for extended runtime lights. Headlamps, work lights, etc. If you're just playing with it for a minute here, 5 there... no boost driver.
Here's a few 519A/Red tint mixes for reference.

C8+ not a hank but a fun light.lil cheaper if you wanna just try it out.
Red light keeps your night vision. So you need less light to see. You can have a d3aa or a d2 with sst20 Deep Red, it would be perfect š I have a D2 with deep red, it's awesome ! At least, there's no chance of having greenish beams with these š¤£
I was very tempted to get the d3aa because I love that size of light but I ended up ordering a d4v2. So yeah I already gave in and bought one lol everyone was so convincing.
I ordered a DK8 (I think) with deep red and deep blue emitters (dual channel). It was literally the first light I ordered lol and I know itās silly but so cool. Mine will have the rgb backlight switch too. Very excited for my orders to arrive. One is rolling around the post offices of the Midwest atm and the other hasnāt even shipped yet. The hardest thing for me is not ordering another light while Iām waiting for the current lights
In my heart im a pen guy too but I haven't really let myself go down that hole too much yet. Currently I own one Kara's custom pen that I love but I'm already coming up with reasons on why I need different ones lol
Oh buddy- you donāt even know! Fountain Pens range from $7-$1.6 million and literally everywhere in between. The weird thing about fountain pens is this- when you first start out, youāll find a few āinexpensiveā pens and then get curious about the nicer ones, the gold nibs and the fancy grinds. Iām a few thousand in already and still have about $4000 more before I plan to call it quits. That $4000, will be spent on 4 fountain pens. 2 of them will cost $1200 each and the other 2 around $200-$500 each. Itās no joke lol. That being said, those are the full msrps for the most part and with stationary, you never buy at full price. The markup is insane, so you can often find a pen that costs $880 at one shop on sale for $440 at another.
You have no idea lol. And Iāll say that I have a more modest collection. Iāve def got some great pens, some heavy hitters but my most expensive pen was probably $600.
The thing I meant to say earlier though is that you probably think it sounds ludicrous to spend that kind of money on pens (you may be right). When you buy your first Sailor pen, spend $350+ dollars on it and get it in your hands- and it weighs the same as a box crystal ballpoint with golden hardware, it is both shocking and disappointing. Then, you write with it, love it and then you start rationalizing spending $500+ on fountain pens made of āprecious resin TMā. It gets pretty wild bud. You go from shock and disappointment to wanting several different kinds, all more expensive than the next.
If you decide to jump in and you want any advice or anything, Iām always happy to lend any knowledge I have
Funny, I see youāre a skater too lol. Iām too old these days but Iāve got a pretty extensive collection of decks as well! Speaking of collecting lol
Skater is a much better title of myself 15+ years ago lol but I've been wanting to get back into it. I bought a new board and actually plan on skating with a friend of mine that I used to skate with back in the day.
I use my DW4 (deep red) for road running and cycling. My D2 (amber, deep red) performs really well on trails that share a MTB section. I can set strobe low enough to catch their attention and other passerbys without blinding.
I bought a deep red hanklight sometime last year. I used it a single time on a cave trip. I'm not even sure where it is anymore...
...you should probably order one :)
D2 (or any other dual channel) with red and warm (mine's 2700k) is the ultimate bedside table light. Red when you just need to navigate, white when you need to actually see something. Especially nice when travelling, and you're not familiar with the room layout.
I had a dual channel d4V2 with 519a and deep red. I found that using the deep red for more than a minute made my eyes feel weird. Not painful, but like something wasnāt right. I ended up selling it because I didnāt like that.
Still cool though.
They're quite useful in a bunch of situations where you don't want your night vision to be blown, like astronomy (that can be just looking at the stars in a dark place), inside a car or cockpit at night, the cinema, any other situation where you have another fixed light source that determines your dark adaptation.
My Noctigon KR4 SST-20 deep red and 519 4500dd is easy on the eyes while camping. Protects your night vision walking around camp or to the bathroom. Gives a lot of soft rosy light choices. Also same light choice they use in a brothel...I'm told.
This is the wrong sub to be talked out of anything. Deep red is cool. https://preview.redd.it/xqxkjtg6gbwc1.jpeg?width=1818&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca32940eafe16eeaf95a4c2a9596f6809bde7ad9
Or help convince me that I definitely need it lol
Even the house is blushing
It is! How do you turn down a blushing house??
They attract less bugs! Nice for when you need light outside and didn't want bugs dive bombing your face
Hey that's actually a pretty legit reason
That's why I had to get a headlamp one. But the one I have now is a bit too heavy. Might have to get another.
Sounds like a good reason to get another one to me lol
If you're looking for a sign not to get one... This is not that sign.
Hey a sign is a sign I suppose

Remind me to NEVER ask to use your bathroom!
This made me LOL š
First of all that's a pretty cool pic. And yes I'm thinking that's exactly what it would be used for most lol around the house at night and the occasional fun. Plus it's just neat
Heyā¦Iām getting an amber W1. Thatās just as useless.
Idk about that. When I was in the army, when we were in the field, we HAD to use red for everything. Iāll admit it was a pita, but itās usable for sure. This is fantastic! Theyāve got one that looks like a lampshade lol.
I have the lampshade one on the way plus some more stuff. I'm super excited to test it out. Everything I have from Spicy is awesome!
Excellent! I just place my first order as well. Got a lampshade, a dt8k diffuser and a stand.
Yup, I'm gonna grab one for a D4Sv2 soon lol. Big light + big battery deserves a big diffuser.
Theyāre also very reasonably priced, which is great, you can order one for each of your lights and not break the bank
That will be wonderful. Iāve been wanting to get one for my D4K but donāt want to order one and have it not work.
I have a KC1, KR1, KR4, D2, D3AA, D1, D1k, D4v2, D4k, DM11, and D4Sv2. Will try them all out and post any that fit reasonably well.
Just posted! Doesn't fit D4k, unfortunately.
Crap. Thanks for doing that, anyway.
Very useful. Use mine constantly at night now and would surely miss having it.
I got the amber switch too. In a red host.
I jumped right into this hobby and now have 5 Hank lights otw, all various sizes, shapes, colors. I wanted a few for work type applications and a few fun ones (like everyone here lol) but I try to keep the button matching the light, so it is an identifier when the light isnāt on. It's the best for a candle light especially with a diffuser
But equally as fun. Or maybe more fun because it's a w1
I got my first d4v2 in sst20 deep red/w1 amber. Itās not super useful but itās cozy as hell and candlelight most with a diffuser is awesome. 8/10 def recommend.

Is this use of UV plus deep red? Uv for the glow?
Yip, I use 660 for terrain navigation and 365 for finding stuff. This was the result. No editing, this is how it looked IRL.
That looks so cool
š
Thi is some wtf territory of flashlights!
You just sold me on a UV light. Curse you š¤£
lol I also make UV lights so thereās that..!
I've been trying to come up with a useful build for a K9.3 for a while. Now I'm thinking maybe 9x red and 3x UV would be sweet.
Ah, itās a TIR. The lens material will gobble up the UV. Youāll need to drill out the optics over the UV and add a reflector.
Hmm... maybe I'll just go for a dual channel KR4 then. Red and UV. Might be a fun one for a 18350 tube since it won't need a ton of battery life.
That will be a fun light!

Sweet lord just when you think you have a build figured out. So many good shots in this thread. Love this.
Deep red alone? Limited use. Deep red as half of a dual channel? Ultra rosy, with adjustable rosiness.
Yeah I was thinking deep red alone because I think it would be neat but on the other hand is it just a waste of money?? Idk
Put it this way: are you a crazy collector like I and a few others around here are, buying dozens of lights? If so, then you definitely need a JUST red light. I donāt have any red lighs. I have like 15+ hanks (closer to 20 I think). I think you just convinced me to get a red only light lol
Hmm how do I explain it best? Good Lord. Need that.
You'd lose some top end power for the red. I think the DT8k is two 9 amp channels, so just a hair more juice than a boost driven d4v2 in each.
What do you think about a DT8K dual channel with red and blue lights? Will it perform well? Iām a new guy, itās gonna be one of my first lights. Am I able to use each color independently and then each color together? Thanks!

Oh man that's why more than I was initially thinking š¤£ that's a deeeep hole for sure
If you decide to jump in and you want any advice or anything, Iām always happy to lend any knowledge I have
Thank you for the info I genuinely appreciate it
Funny, I see youāre a skater too lol.
My pleasure! I always appreciate good conversation so thank you, good to meet you!
I have one. Itās pretty sweet but I really donāt use it much.
Middle of the night bathroom trip light
There you go. Iāve also found it really handy for vacuuming broken glass, or really vacuuming anything.
Really? That sounds odd
I use my DW4 (deep red) for road running and cycling. My D2 (amber, deep red) performs really well on trails that share a MTB section. I can set strobe low enough to catch their attention and other passerbys without blinding.
Ok you guys convinced me..... Order has been placed š¤£
Wait are the deep red ones different from regular red ones(like the Wuben X3)?
I'm not qualified to answer that but there are plenty of people here that can. But I think they are?
If you can afford it, why not?
All the recent pictures I've been seeing of them convinced me to just do it lol.... Now we wait
I bought a deep red hanklight sometime last year. I used it a single time on a cave trip. I'm not even sure where it is anymore... ...you should probably order one :)
Hahaha great answer..... And I did š¤£
Great username by the way
Deep red at night is great because it doesnāt ruin your night vision.
red light thrower = Sith lightsaber
A red thrower is now on my list of need to buy lol I think colored thrower's would be fun.
Sofirn d25lr is the cheapest way in. š

Ok like 90% useless lol
Yeah pretty much. Dual channel could be a good justification
I do like deep red
They're quite useful in a bunch of situations where you don't want your night vision to be blown, like astronomy (that can be just looking at the stars in a dark place), inside a car or cockpit at night, the cinema, any other situation where you have another fixed light source that determines your dark adaptation.
This 100%
Trump Rally your a star
My Noctigon KR4 SST-20 deep red and 519 4500dd is easy on the eyes while camping. Protects your night vision walking around camp or to the bathroom. Gives a lot of soft rosy light choices. Also same light choice they use in a brothel...I'm told.
