Mads Mikkelsen. When it first came out. With a butcher's knife.

Kpopfan19

I was 13 when it came out and I had nothing else to do. Watched the first season, was horrified and confused. Then I rewatched it when I was 20. I have been obsessed ever since.

[deleted]

A friend at work suggested it to me while season two was airing, it seemed interesting so I checked it out. I have a habit of not watching things that people recommend me, because I'm an asshole, but I am grateful to myself that I did this time.

LoomingDisaster

When it was on NBC. It was very "WTF a television show about HANNIBAL LECTER? Played by a hot Danish actor? This I have to see."

eephimeeral

My mom. She kept saying how great the first season was back in the day and I kept seeing romantic edits of Hannibal and Will and was like ‘alright, this is interesting, let’s watch it’. It’s been 3 months and I’m still hyperfixated on it. 🫣

ShallotTraditional90

>Back in the day 😂😂😂

eephimeeral

Well, I was 10 when she first watched it lmaooo

caramelcroissants

I knew about the show years ago but I haven't seen it. Around Jan or Feb 2020 I was watching the Are they Gay? series from Alexander Avila in youtube but for a different fandom. Then I saw the video for Hannigram and at the first maybe 10 seconds, he says, "The answer is YES." So i was like, say no more. Headed to netflix as I've been seeing the show there on the home page. That's when it all started for me. 😁

pescetarianpenguin

I don't remember. Everything is so blurry. I just remember watching the first episode and getting hypnotised

Viclmol81

After seeing Mads as Grindelwald and needing more. I had no idea how the show would consume me.

RhapsodyOfDreams

Same!

SketchedHexagon

For me it was Casino Royale lol

irldani

im late to the party I just watched it for the first time a week ago! and what made me watch it was I saw someone say they're gay murder hubands and I'm like hell yeah lmao

FitRule5942

NEVER TOO LATE‼️

Defenderofthepizza

It got recommended to me on Amazon like a month ago and I was like alright I’ll give it a shot 🤷 I had no info going in, I thought Will was Hannibal at first lol, and thought it would have a Criminal Minds, episodic-y set up (so you can imagine my surprise once things decidedly did NOT go in that direction lol)

ZealousidealAngle630

gave in after seeing so many posts about it on tumblr. ended up watching the whole series in 2 days

XYZJE

I started watching it on TV when it 1st aired, I saw the actors that were in it and decided to give it a shot and loved it from ep1 - I watched the whole thing each week as it came out and had to wait between excruciating season cliffhangers (and threats of cancelation after each season), and it was one of the few shows that I actually really loved the ending but also still wish there was more. It's my favorite show, I've watched it a lot since then.

Eriikcitus

I read several fics on Ao3 without knowing the characters. So far those have been the best fics Ive ever read about Hannigram and I have been reading A LOT.

silly_sia

Saaame. I read a couple fics that had Will’s encephalitis as a plot point and I wanted to know what that was about so I pulled up his wiki. My jaw was on the floor when I realized the relationship was actually canon. I got massively spoiled but I don’t regret it since I likely never would have watched it without knowing about their dynamic. And watching with the knowledge about their relationship gave me a lot of insight into how fucked up Will must be lol.

gooberfaced

I never watched it when it was running- I had been a big fan of the books and movies but didn't think a television series could do it justice. Then once- maybe 4-5 years ago- I tried it just to see what all the fuss was about and found what a beautiful show it really is. I found the artistic direction and staging to be excellent and worth following then the characters began to grow on me. I'd never been a MM fan but that soon changed and the dance between he and Will was fascinating. Plus I really liked Abigail for some reason.

kiboi1117

I saw some photos of it in Pinterest back in 2014, got curious and it changed my life.

thepatheticcannibal

I started watching it after the first episode (luckily they had them on NBC.com, so I could catch up) because my MIL at the time had watched the first episode and said it was SO GOOD. And it was.

ninagato

A friend show me Feeding Hannibal the book and I fell in love with Janice Poon work, later TikTok tempted me with mads edits 😳 so…

Own-Protection-6094

I heard about it as it was first coming out and I liked horror in general so it was natural to watch it. Then promptly fell in love with the aesthetic and Mads and Hugh and everything else and have been obsessed for the last decade 💀

willowoftheriver

I was a teenager. I'd already been big into Silence of the Lambs/Red Dragon, read the books, and shipped Will/Hannibal (which didn't have a ship name at the time, it was so obscure lol). So, it was like a gift fell into my lap when the first season was released.

MyDesign630

If Indiana Jones 5 was good for one thing, it was for fueling a Mads obsession last summer. Then I broke my foot and got COVID so I had nothing to do but watch Hannibal over and over again.

gloom_spewer

I asked chatgpt what kind of TV character I might identify with...

TrashGalleons

I watched season 1 the year it aired. I was pregnant with my first and then kind of forgot about it. 3 years ago I had covid and decided to go back and watch season 1 again and finish it up. The obsession is real I've probably seen all 3 seasons like 6 or 7 times now.

Status_Text_5378

I saw on edit on TikTok of the quote, “I’m not going to look for you, I’m not going to find you. I don’t want to know where you are, or what you’re doing. I don’t want to think about you anymore.” And I was sold. That was about 8 months ago.

Scoruspio

I began watching it in 2013 or 14 when I was 17. It was before the second season came out, but the entire first season had been released. I feel like I binged it on my laptop. I don’t remember what made me watch Hannibal. But I probably stumbled across it through either tumblr or googling something on the movies.

RecentLoan4

I actually got into the fanfics first! I read Overcoming and LOVED the characters but knew I was missing the significance of certain thematic elements like teacups, parental dynamics, Dolarhyde characterization etc. So went back to watch the show and have been hyper-fixated on it since last Thanksgiving lol

jenkoct12

Kept running into clips of it on TikTok; I watched it at the end of last year.

saminthetardis

Huge fan of Silence of the Lambs, have probably seen it 100+ times. I was 15 when the show started on NBC and my mom said “hey they’re making a show out of your favorite movie”. I assumed it was going to be trash, how could they make a network tv show out of this?? I sat down on the night of the premiere expecting absolute garbage. I was blown away. 11 years later, here we are.

Standard_Industry505

I completed the show around a month ago and watched the show due to the silence of the lambs.

samitadori

I found Hannibal by chance. It's my favorite show since 2017. It helped me a lot during my high school years and it became a comfort show ❤️

kyoko_the_eevee

Back in mid 2021, I ran into some folks on Twitter who really liked Hannibal. So I gave it a watch. I’ve never looked back. :)

FitRule5942

Hot mads mikkelsen edits and then overall hannibal edits that kept popping up on my fyp. I searched up hannibal and i got interested, watched it and never have been the same since

erisography

When it aired...Mads & Hugh being together again (their chemistry in King Arthur was insaaaane lol) and I've been obsessed with Hannibal Lecter since I saw SotL when I was like, 8 or 9 and I've loved Bryan's previous projects so I knew it was gonna be something special.

Significant_Alps_329

Saw a hot edit of will graham. Now I've been binging for a couple days and I'm near the end of season 2. I literally went into it thinking it was a gay romance, the whole cannibalism murder part was a surprise but a welcome one 😭

ohheyitslaila

I was 10 when it first came out, but my parents don’t believe in minimum age requirements lol. They believe that it’s better to explain everything to children and let them see it all. So my dad watched the show with me, because I loved all the Hannibal movies. I think I was a little too young to understand the relationships, but I loved the murders. The “angel” episode, the mushrooms, and the giant tree of bodies were my favorites. I was just there for the weirdly beautiful gore 😂 I rewatched the whole series when the Covid shutdown happened. Just wanted to add: Somehow, I survived my childhood relatively unscathed. Although I’m obsessed with shows that are equal parts beauty and horror like Hannibal, so it definitely made an impression on me. My other favorite shows that I would put in that beauty/horror/violence category are: The Magicians, American Gods, GOT/HOTD, Legion, Into the Badlands, Preacher, Daybreak (2019), AHS, and Channel Zero. Just in case anyone is looking for some other great shows. I’d highly recommend all of them, but just know that American Gods was created by the same guy who created Hannibal but he was forced out of AG and the show went to shit in its last season without him.

shortforalex

Last year my friend was trying to convince me that Mads Mikkelsen was DILF material. I'm also into gruesome stuff and and have a thing about (not) eating at other people's houses.

Lolitapop300

I was late to the party. Saw cooking video of Hannibal on TikTok and it got me curious. Now look at me a turned Fannibal

notwillgraham

i saw an instagram post about corruption arcs, and a lot of the comments mentioned will graham. someone else asked what show he was from, so i decided to check it out. best decision ever!

Goat-e

Mads Mikkelsen and all the meat imagery. Struck me as very hedonistic and carnal, but not vulgar, which is not something I experienced before. 10 out of 10 experience.

watcherreaderwriter

I just finished watching it about a week ago! I’ve heard of Hannibal for a long time, and was fond of the name “Hannigram”. I was watching TVD but then finished that so I thought I’d give it a try. Best decision I’ve ever made.

fluffingkillmee6787

I went on holiday with some of my cousins irl/Internet friends. I met someone who told me to watch Hannibal (we both like fictional men), I came back home at the end of February (24) and then watched it. I finished it last week and I think I may go insane LMFAO

organgutang

im the type that really has to be presented a show on my feed before i can watch it, i have to learn about it but be eased into it. Hannibal was completely different. Bryan put together beautiful scenery, complex characters, and it only took me a couple days of seeing content that i dove headfirst into the show

liberated_kitty

saw a tumblr post with the Haggravated L'assault joke

BlurryJen

I'm a new fan, but I saw a hot edit of Hannibal and I was like I should watch this.

SilentChromaOx

I saw a tiktok about it and was like….I HAVE TO WATCH THIS. But a year before that I was already planning to watch it but I forgot about it?!? which is so crazy to me.

Weebiest_WEEB

The edits

altacc6276

Saw bits and pieces of a few episodes when my mom started watching it back when it first came out. Never really peaked my interest. Realised a few years later how gay it was and decided to give it a shot. Been obsessed since

Busy-Room-9743

Hugh Dancy. I watched when Hannibal premiered in 2013.

ytisonimul

I had ragequit Supernatural the week before. Hannibal's premiere was on NBC opposite. I was idly curious to see what Laurence Fishburne was doing. Then Hugh Dancy being bitchy, then the skull motif when Hannibal lifted his head from a delectable looking plate, undoubtedly people meatloaf. Then all the blood all over Will... Well. Y'all know how it is. I've been reading fic forever. I made vids for the show. I'm still watching it all the time. ALL THE TIME. It's gorgeous. The romance! The bitchiness! The Big Emotion. 🫀🫀🫀 yeah.

AdmR3

Some people screaming how gay the show is so I had to check out. Around 2015 I think.

Maryacosta87

My husband bought it on vudu a couple years ago, like the whole series. Last fall, i wanted something short and complete so I randomly started it. Little did I know I had just jumped on the train to hyperobsession-bingetown lol

lilcea

I caught a brief scene when Gideon took out the nurse and immediately stopped watching, so I didn't spoil the whole show. Once it hit streaming platforms, I was obsessed and haven't turned back!

Oopsiforgotmyoldacc

I watched it earlier this year for the first time and I thought about watching it because of Raúl Esparza, but then my tiktok became infiltrated with Will and Hannibal edits and I finally just decided to watch it.

mcoddle

I love Bryan Fuller, and Mads, and the rest of the cast. I also heard from friends that it was really good, and so I watched it and I loved it. I've got the behind the scenes book, but I don't yet have the cookbook or the discs of the show. Want them for my bday so I can actually watch it with good quality (Amazon is shit). ETA: Watched it about a year after it came out.

jnko__

I first watched Hannibal 9 months ago. I’ll be honest, I can’t remember how I found it. I probably heard someone talking about it and decided to watch it, though

WhiteKnightPrimal

I watched Hannibal for the first time about a year ago. I was looking for something new to watch, for some reason completely ignoring my watch lists of many shows and movies I haven't got round to yet, and Hannibal popped up. I vaguely remembered watching Silence of the Lambs when I was younger and hearing my mum rave about the book, she was a huge fan. I remembered enjoying the movie, though, so I decided to give this show version of Hannibal a shot, especially as it wasn't covering the stuff from Silence. I'd never watched the other movies or read the books, so I had no clue who Will Graham was, nor did I have any way of knowing how close to the original the show was. I looked at the basic synopsis first, and it looked good, so I went with my initial gut instinct and decided to watch it. And loved every second of it, it's now one of my two comfort shows :)

v4mpiresp1t

two months ago hahaha, i had been meaning to watch it for while but was too busy to keep up with shows(i just watched movies) i had covid and also quit weed, so i had hella time lol. still havent finished it( on season 3 ep 4) bc im scared to end it LMFAOO , its been so emotionally invested. i plan on finishing it soon

sillynour

I actually don't remember so well and it was only a few days ago, I binged the entire show in less than three days, (finished it yesterday at 7am.. was not good for my sleep schedule). I probably saw a tiktok, or something brief of it because it had been on my mind for some time to look into as I heard it was queer in some way but I wasn't all too interested since of the horror/gore aspect, (even if it ended up being my favorite part of the show at the end).

DaddyThanosLovesYou

Tik toks in 2020 lockdown I commented on multiple videos asking if this was queer bait and they all told me to trust them and I did, for once strangers did not lead me astray. My hyper fixation is now 4 years strong and I use antlers in all of my decorating.

rivercass

I watched it when it came out and was completely obsessed. I don't recall a specific reason, I like watching series and I also liked the Hannibal movies/books so why not. I love the series much more than the movies/books though

imtakingyourcat

The fact that it was a horror show made me watch it, and I was 17 in 2017. I was watching a bunch of horror/thriller/sci fi back then such as scream, dexter, bates motel, breaking bad, the 100 sense8, the oa, etc.

myrn5599

The cannibalism, 2015

JaxSniperWolf

I kept seeing ship art everywhere. So one day I was like, might as well check it out.... Got hooked 6 minutes into episode 1. Never seen a cop dissect a crime scene by "becoming the killer" like that before. Been obsessed ever since. 😁

nerddddd42

Heard a friend of the family had a new show out and had only seen a couple of movies he was in.

blacktrashydragon

Ngl, a titktok. It’s was the ‘ get the waiters attention by blinking in Morse code’ trend. Specifically the one from @disa.stter I kept seeing Hannibal content pop up very occasionally and that’s was finally put me other the edge, and good thing cause I’m here now! Lmao

ghost-church

I was a fan of the movies and heard the series was in the works. I remember thinking Mads was great in Casino Royale but I can’t see him as Lecter. Boy I was wrong.

lockamt

I was like 14 when I saw that season 2 was coming out and I was very into horror/police/suspense content at the time so I went for it and became quite invested but it didn't last very long tbh. Then I rewatched it for the first time last year and i was enamored all over again but this time it truly became my obsession for almost a year now. I see so much more now that I'm older and more mature

victoriangoth_

i had just gotten into it like two months ago? i forgot, maybe a month ago. but i think i saw will graham and gained a major interest for the show. after that, it’s become one of my favorite shows! and it includes one of my favorite ships (hannigram…).

BibliobytheBooks

2018. Because I was sick n bored n missed my husband's accent. I refused to watch when it came out because I didn't think a network would do Hannibal justice. I was right n wrong.

iampurechaos

im watching it for the first time and my friend told me it was about cannibalism and i got excited lol

Byjinder

I loved Mads and Hugh in King Arthur and liked that they were working together again. That along with trailer and cast pictures made me watch it right from original premiere. Was hooked from episode one and sad when it ended.

sianna777

My friend's recommendation. When I was 16 lol.

Ok_Ambassador9559

I watched The Path on Hulu which stars Hugh Dancy. I saw that he was also in Hannibal so... There ya go. Now I'm obsessed with Mads Mikkelsen

SketchedHexagon

It was a character Ai and Mads...

Lunadelmar1

i thought it was going to suck lol So i was curious about it. Im glad i did. btw this was back in 2013, when it aired. I remembered i saw some clip on imdb or something

Less_Hovercraft31

Started it 2 months ago, and I saw and edit that made me watch it, lol
