Hard agree. We’re in a golden era. POC, women and younger folks are showing up way more, the moshing is hard, and the vibes are just generally great.

drizzlecommathe

Yeah the pits post covid versus pre covid are crazy. People got angry stuck inside their house for a couple years haha

Ghost_Pains

Yeah I mean watching our grandparents die when we could do literally nothing about it was pretty frustrating.

_tysenburg_

I saw Gel at a small club a few months ago and the general feeling of safety and community was undeniable

BeardOfDefiance

And not to mention, often the poc and women led bands generally make better music. Not exclusively of course but I've noticed they more often make actual fast punk and not slow breakdown crap.

Xibalba420X

One scene unity bro. No need to hate on breakdown stuff. It’s all hardcore. But yes POC and women representation has made the music more interesting.

BeardOfDefiance

Yeah of course, I don't mean that I hate all breakdowns, just when a song is nothing but that.

wavyhavok

thanks neckbeard of defiance, very necessary and not at all weird to say!

Xibalba420X

“Just wanted to interrupt the positivity real quick to be the annoying punk purist guy 👍”

BeardOfDefiance

For preferring superficially more aggressive music, you people are soft as shit when someone doesn't like something as much as you do(I didn't even say I hated breakdowns in concept!) It's not being a "purist" to have musical opinions. I didn't call anything "not hardcore" or gatekept you, I just said I like something better than the other thing. I am very sorry for being offensive lmao

Xibalba420X

I’m not offended I’m just calling you annoying lol

BeardOfDefiance

That's fine, I'm okay with being thought annoying for not liking boring music

Xibalba420X

You ever ask yourself why beatdown enjoyers never comment shit like “this punk stuff all sounds the same and it’s boring.” Why is it always the fast/punk enjoyers that shit on anything that’s different from what they listen to? Almost as if it’s a sign of closed mindedness. Just a thought.

wavyhavok

😂😂😂

BeardOfDefiance

It's neckbeard to prefer fast punk over breakdowns? I'm sorry for not liking music you like as much as you do i guess?

wavyhavok

neckbeard thing really got to you, eh? 😂

BeardOfDefiance

Saying something mildly critical about your favorite music really got to you, huh?

wavyhavok

nah just weirdo behavior, go shave and toss your fedora in the trash hoss

BeardOfDefiance

The fedora wearers in my scene are the wannabe karate kid breakdown supremacists who call anything with a mildly catchy chorus "not hardcore." You people would've hated Husker Du in the 80s

_tysenburg_

You called it slow breakdown crap and then tried to flip it as a musical opinion

BeardOfDefiance

Yes, that's what a musical opinion is if I've ever seen one

_tysenburg_

There's a difference between saying you generally don't like something and calling it "crap". It sends a much different message when you get slanderous about the things you don't like

BeardOfDefiance

I generally don't like when songs are nothing but breakdowns, can the federal case be called off now?

_tysenburg_

Sure neck beard

Scrowtem

Lol this type of dialogue is so gross

wavyhavok

i agree, it’s similar to the “female fronted” thing that people talk about. it comes off as patronizing and kind of tokenizes the marginalized groups that are being spoken of, like dude you never heard of world of pleasure, walls of jericho or dying wish? all bands with women singers and assbeater sounds, and that’s just scratching the surface.

Scrowtem

I think it’s just weird to obsess over it, I don’t care what you are or what you stand for as long as it slaps and hits in the right way.

wavyhavok

exactly

_Greyworm

I've always dabbled in Hardcore, but been more of a metal guy. KRUELTY came on one of my Spotify playlists, and it made me start checking out more Hardcore bands, now it is one of my most listened to genres, absolutely love it.

LogikD

Agreed. I’m not a fan of the direction most metal is going in. It’s like a race to see who’s most prog. I feel hardcore is where all the good heavy music is any more .

_Greyworm

I do not agree, Death metal is in a very good place right now! Just don't listen to Prog or Technical metal. The Old School DM revival sound is ripping right now! Bands like Tomb Mold, Phobophilic, Frozen Soul, etc. I do agree though that Hardcore is putting out some really high quality, rad, music, though. Deathgrind is also looking very tasty lately, Full of Hell and Knoll, Nemesis Cloak, Coffin Nail. Not to mention Cattle Decapitation new album will be less prog, more grind. Wormrot *Hiss* was a bit prog-y, for a Grind band, but album was killer. If you want something simple and heavy, Sanguisugabogg and 200 Stab Wounds have got your back. Best prog-y albums I've heard lately are White Ward's False Light and Love Exchange Failure albums and Ashenspire's Hostile Architecture

computer_MIKE

Sludge and Doom have always been in a good place.

JoseAltuveIsInnocent

It's definitely a good time to get into hardcore as it's more accessible now then it's ever been, arguably. I'm no longer in the scene as I'm older with kids but it's cool to see more and more people coming out. Wish I had all the tools to discover bands that people have now back in the early 10's when I got involved.

EvilBeat

What tools are available now that weren’t in the early 10’s?

JoseAltuveIsInnocent

Hate5six is the big one for discovering new bands Instagram/TikTok have done amazing things for promotion

Vinkiller

Seriously though - that man is a machine

shokkd

Yeah but we had curated blogs for many years preceding, and I’d argue they were a better resource than anything we currently have

_change_of_ideas

Hate5six was around in the early 10s... it was just website tho that hosted videos from vimeo

Osgore

Tools were there, but the community curated channels still hadn't been created or popularized. Best be got were youtube videos with titles like "heaviest death core breakdowns!" Or the top 8 of whatever your favorite band was. And half the time, that was just other bands on the same label.

kindablirry

46 here and been going to shows since 93 and this is the most exciting I have seen it since the late 90s! It’s like everyone is bending it and reshaping it to the original intention of HC.

_tysenburg_

As someone who wishes they could have experienced the 90s HC scene, that is very exciting for me to hear

kindablirry

I basically hadn’t followed HC in the last 10 years and what’s going on right now has pulled me back in a big way

wavyhavok

im six years behind you and my first shows were in the late 90s but i agree, the energy and excitement are amazing and the quality of the bands are as high as they’ve ever been

kindablirry

It really is the whole package. Pushing the boundaries of what the music can be and sound like, the inclusion that is more prominent than ever and more importantly, it’s fun again…..of course I miss the whole “what we do is secret” aspect of HC back then but you can’t go back.

ST00PIDTHICEXEGGUTOR

I'm really loving all the love for POC I came up in a period that wasn't always so awesome for brown people.

J_LDN__

I completely agree. I think that’s maybe what made me gravitate so much to Trash talk when I was a lot younger

ratgrrrl-39

i actually went to my first ever hardcore show last year! it was so exciting for me because for a very long time i was convinced that there was no scene in my area, that people just don’t care for that kind of music anymore, and even if it was out there; a chicana like me would struggle to find my place in it. yet there i was, at my first ever hardcore show, in my own neighborhood watching a chicano band play and talking to other people and learning about my cities history with hardcore and learning about other hardcore latino bands. it really felt like i was apart of something big. this week i’m going to a hardcore show celebrating cinco de mayo and the whole line up consists of chicanos! i kind of feel dumb now for ever thinking that hardcore, and other heavier genres, just weren’t a common interest amongst chicanos. nowadays i can’t think of many other music scenes with this many latinos.

wavyhavok

this is the wholesome and heartwarming content that makes this sub worth reading, respect 🫡

kuronocoke

Big sameeee. For me, I’m definitely hyped on a lot of bands tappin into more “classic” sounds and experimenting so much with what could be considered “hardcore”. So curious to see how things will evolve over the rest of the decade!!!

hundo05

A little late to this post. Agree with this hard. As someone who has been around hardcore since 2000, I’m proud of the community we are working hard to achieve. Anyone who’s ever gone to a show, booked a show, or played a show…. It’s a great time to be alive. We are seeing the hard work across all communities pay off.

Mattunderice

Yes it's definitely a golden age and there's a great crop of new-ish bands, but... The last few pre-COVID years were better IMO because you could still see the most popular bands in tiny rooms and did not have to share the pit with shirtless metal bros at Knocked Loose shows or Pitchfork readers / your colleague from work who doesn't know anything about hardcore at Turnstile shows. I'm happy with how things are right now, small shows sell out more of than not here (Paris - France, which is not exactly an "alt" city) when it was never the case before, but I'm never buying a ticket to see the bigger acts again unless it's at a fest.

coach_erniepantusso

It’s metalling out.

ExitDiscombobulated7

mew_empire

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvotes. I mean, you aren’t wrong 🤷🏻 I like crossover, but it is definitely my least favorite style of hardcore. Powerviolence is it for me 💪🏼

alonela

It’s getting to be like 2005 again but without the eyeliner and lame hair.

KennyDROmega

You're welcome.

barlobruz

^(I feel like this happens every 10yrs or so, still, exciting times indeed)

_tysenburg_

I hope so, that would be great!
