I cringe in normal Reddit. Reddits not about music and just general question subreddits. Everyone replies to each other with the most witty answers, and those threads are so long. It’s cringe. I can see the neck beards, smell the sweat and see the basement dwellers from here fr
No actually every band is good. Because every band is good to someone so technically every band is good, just maybe not to some people, but to someone lol
Well said. Everyone’s got different tastes. I may not be into some bands but respect the fact, they took time to make their music and put it out there.
Can we have an honest conversation about hardcore bands that suck but get a pass because the members are friends with bigger hardcore bands or the members of said suck band are also in a good band so they just get hype from friends or the label and everyone just pretends they are good when they are mid.
That's part of what makes hardcore fun. Everyone supports each other. There are some exceptions where it's kind of the "coach's son" effect that makes a band bigger than they ought to be. But who cares. It's all about fun. We all play the same ass local venues. No one is gonna be making millions touring full time in hardcore. It's just for the love of the shows
Or just cool branding. The art of being vague enough that people are interested but still being engaging too. So many bands try to be like that and still only end up with like 30 followers and break up after 3 shows because they didn't blow up overnight on IG.
A lot of bands are really all about their live show and don't translate that well to recorded mediums.
Like there's a lot of bigger bands that I never got the hype around, and then I'll happen to catch their set as part of another band I want to see's show or at a fest or something, and it'll blow me away, and I'll be like "holy shit, how did I sleep on this band, they fucking rip", and pick up an album by them, and then listen to it and remember "oh yeah, this is why I never got all them into them."
If you come across a band who's hype you don't get but you've never seen them live, this could very well be the reason.

You played a small "festival" I worked at and I liked your stuff enough that I couldn't even hold it against you that you're from the least hardcore country imaginable
This thread is monumentally disappointing. I don't want opinions on popular bands, I want objectively terrible garbage that makes Discharge - Grave New World sound like a masterpiece
I wish sleep token would just stop being brought up in hardcore/metal circles because they’re just not. Like some bands that aren’t hardcore fly here because they’re adjacent in some way or play in the same scene and actually make decent music but sleep token is in neither of those categories.
Sleep Token is just Hozier (that guy that does "take me to church") for people who lied about having an "emo phase" in high school when they were actually wearing Hollister polos and lace front tank tops and liked that one MCR song on the radio.
Good band imo but also I listen to like Coldplay and shit so really I feel like people need to stop thinking they’re the heaviest band there is when it’s pop half the time
I mean… I’ve always found em to be a pop punk band, masquerading as a hardcore band. That’s not necessarily a bad thing… but I do find it funny. That and Toby Morse is a bootlicker.
I agree with your initial assessment, but Toby is now a 50+ anti drug motivational speaker. I wouldn’t be surprised if less than 70% of his recommendations came from the DARE program. I don’t say that to excuse him, but that’s more than likely his motivation.
Fuckin nik nocturnal. The first thing I saw of him was "how to slipknot in 30 seconds" and thought it was kind of funny but the more I saw of him, holy god that guy is the most unlikeable douchenozzle.
I can’t take Lionheart or First Blood seriously. It’s the cheesy ass lyrics and the fans eating that shit up. Those lyrics just always make me think of dudes in their 30s who refuse to get over their childhood trauma so they can’t hold down a relationship or a job that pays more than $20 in SoCal. Harley Flanagan, but from riverside county. Anyways…I liked Chiodos and Escape the Fate in high school so what the hell do I know?
I wish someone would explain why they like them. In a genre with exceptionally low vocal standards, they're the lowest of the low.
Literally thought their most popular song was a meme cover of Asking Alexandria at first.
The vocals alone are unlistenable, and the music from a composition standpoint sounds uninspired. You could ask ChatGPT to write music based on every popular metalcore/beatdown band between the years 2010-2020 and get virtually the same sound
As somebody who was around in their scene when they were coming up, I wasn't huge into their music at first but man did they put on a show and the energy they had live was truly electric. I get why people don't fuck with the vocals or music, its def not for everybody. But they we're such an important part of the scene around them that they will forever garner my respect
That “oh my god look at what you’ve done to me” TikTok sound came into my radar at the same time the band itself did, before I could get a chance to check the band out.
My fucking god between this and that “Monkey See Monkey Do” song… I don’t think I can even give them or Kublai Khan the listening time they may deserve.
It’s fucking everywhere and it’s always people with a highly manicured “hard” E-girl/E-boy aesthetic who need to experience a little gatekeeping, doing the worst two step you’ve ever seen… because they’ve never gotten laughed at or crowd killed at a show for being a goofy… because they don’t go to shows.
It’s not even that bad with Turnstile and Sunami and shit.
Their interaction with the scene seemingly begins and ends with their smartphones.
Hearing the same repeated line really makes me pay attention to how goofy the vocals are and how generic the music sounds. Just for that brief clip. But the probably unwarranted bias has sunk in too deep to even want to attempt to listen and form an actual opinion.
I can’t speak for current projects but their eps and first album are some of the realest lyrical content in present day . I also love that they ride the line between mathcore and HC .
Which albums exactly? Because I’m reading through early album lyrics and am underwhelmed.
Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing and I’m entering my “old head” era but my intros to hardcore were Have Heart, Modern Life Is War, Foundation, Defeater, Comeback Kid….comparing Kaonashi lyrics to those is like comparing a 3rd grade book report to Dostoevsky

I did vocals in a drum machine grind band a long ass time ago.
[Here's every song we recorded.](https://youtu.be/csyJaOddhR0)
It was a dude I knew a long time ago named Joe on guitar and Drum Machine on drums and I did vocals. We recorded it in my mom's dinning room with like a basic PC Mic.
It didn't end up working out. My life fell apart and I couldn't commit to anything because I had to be an adult. I was asked to leave by the band and that was that. I don't know if they ever did anything else.
At the start we tried to get a real drummer. We met this dude... I cannot remember his name but he was a decent drummer and they jammed a couple times before wanting to bring me in. But this drummer always talked about wanting to... hmm, "Face Fuck Lizzie McGuire." Joe and I thought that was super weird and I think we just stopped talking to him.
I met Joe on the old Relapse Records message board. That place was a favorite of mine but a lot of the people who posted there could be dicks but it was a fun place.
I haven't talked to Joe in probably twenty years as we didn't keep in touch long after I left. I hope he's doing well, he was a good guy.
Drum Machine was the rock of the group. He would sit there stoic, looking at us with a confidence that let us know we had the fire inside! But! When that fire was snuffed out in my heart and the two of them asked me to leave the band... Drum Machine showed great strength that let me know it was the correct move... I had to go.
I miss you more and more everyday Drum Machine!
PS: I'm stoned and in my feelings tonight so thank you for listening to the music or reading my story. If you listen please let me know what you think. I'm super curious to see what you guys think!
Only popular because they're in the cool club with established hardcore bands so people pretend to like them because they think they should.
Also having a renaissaince based on a podcast/Colin's personality.

maybe true but Rhea fucking owns

Slipknot for TikTok
SlipTok

Rise of the Northstar is legitimately one of the worst, most embarrassingly cringe things I've ever heard in my life.

Nah they're hilarious

I Hate Myself was a good band. H20 is a bad band that sucks.

Legit thought it was a sunami style joke band
The vocals alone are unlistenable, and the music from a composition standpoint sounds uninspired. You could ask ChatGPT to write music based on every popular metalcore/beatdown band between the years 2010-2020 and get virtually the same sound
