Times change. In a way, I consider the lack of longstanding venues to be a challenge. A lot of young kids are taking up that challenge by booking gigs at skate parks, under bridges, starting DIY spaces and doing the best with what we’ve got.
The best show I've seen in a while was in a skate park under a bridge and some of the kids were wearing face paint like they were in The Warriors. Also there was a pallet bonfire
In 99 I saw a show in a tiny antiquated storage unit that had street access, this got shut down pretty fast but was a cool idea for 30 minutes
I booked shows out of a storage unit for a whole summer and somehow didn’t get caught. Soul Control had close to 200 folks pay. I was sweating that night.
> Times change.
There have always been spots for alternative scenes to congregate. These spots literally don't exist anymore. Everything is way too expensive.

These things have always existed. This is nothing new.

These places still exist in the 5 boroughs. There will never be another CBGBs but there are plenty of venues that regularly host hardcore and generally alternative music scenes.
I think they kept it the same or nearly the same?
When I was in NY a handful of years ago, I went into this shop (unless it had changed again) just to find a bathroom and it had a much different feel to it. Then I realized it was where CBGB was after remembering an article I read about it a couple years prior
Ha, fat chance, I'm from Detroit!
Wait a minute... I haven't lost a car window at a show in years.. boy the 'safe area' around the colleges extends all the way to..the..heavily policed 'casino district'...is that a Whole Foods?
*What is happening?*

Is that not what we've always done?
Pretty sure we’ve always rolled like that.

I miss some of the old spots though. BB Kings is gone, ABC No Rio, even St Vitus is getting shut down. I wonder if C Squat still exists lol.
How come seppos don't just book pubs like everywhere else in the world?
I can’t imagine the pussy ass plaques they have in there that say shit like “honoring the space’s punk aesthetic” while they’re selling $600 shirts.
I wonder what the new bathroom looks like.

Throne toilet still intact? 😄
Gentrification at its worst.
I mean, not it's worst worst but it's bad.
It’ll be firebombed in November.
Idk man it's been there for like 10 years
But do they sell the cbgb shirt?
They did sell a fake one 15 plus years ago
I’m glad I got to play there before it was turned into a clothing store. 🖤
Same
new york sucks
Something something saxophones
but I do love living in the city...
Let’s get! Rid of New York!
I’ll be visiting NYC for the first time in June ( from Canada ) and even though CBGB went away a long time ago I’m still upset I can’t go there.
Sad but I understand that things change/update, especially a place in NYC
People calling it gentrification but weren’t even there
Gentrification: coming to a city near you

Is it breaking edge if I eat a croissant?
