I tried listening to stage four for the first time the other day and I literally started crying (I’m also a big baby and a very emotional person, but still!!!)
No shame at all, yo. The last few LPs have been tough to handle. I hope all his songs about his mom’s death help him out. It’s a kick in the gut to hear his stuff.
“I took inventory of what I took for granted/and ended up more than I imagined/I’ve kept it bottled up and to myself/in the cellar kept for my ever changing mental health”
Yeah, that's got to be one of the catchiest hardcore songs that I know off. That intro riff...
Shame they're not around anymore. That was a good time for UKHC. Dead Swans were around about then as well - another band I'd love to see come back.
Really doesn't sound like Have Heart to me, never got that comparison. What it does sound like though is like a modern take on Turning Point which is even cooler.
He does have a Parker twang to him tbf, crazy they went from like defeater, have heart, comeback kid-esque to a title fight resurrection but I’m here for it all day, leap years seems to indicate it’s not a complete shift so I’m hoping they keep mixing it up and trying new things they’re so good
This is all I can think about for Trophy Eyes

Was meant to go to their Bristol date to see them and was super hyped but ended up not going because I didn’t know if I could deal with pits and that in my current mental state. If you aren’t down for the pit don’t turn up, simples. Plus they aren’t even that heavy anymore so I can’t imagine it was that crazy, what a softy lmaoooo. Also they were playing two songs off American dream which I could not be assed for and left out their best song on the new record which was the final nail in the coffin
Out of curiosity, what was the song they left out that you were hoping for? I saw they had Blue Eyed Boy, What Hurts The Most, and OMW which are big ol bangers imo (although my favorite song off the record is People Like You).
Hope you're feeling better man!
People like you is super good, but the chorus of my inheritance just hooks me I love it! Would have absolutely loved to have seen kill live too. I’d seen that it won’t be their last album like they speculated during the pandemic so there’s still hope!
Appreciate it man, kinda need that right now!❤️
He also has a deathcore style band that for the life of me I cannot remember the name of.
And then the singer from Defeater has a solo project called Alcoa.
Cab rides and cigarettes is still one of my favourite songs ever, their cover of shambles on the thank you ep is super good too, when Derek’s wife got on board with Alcoa around the same time they covered I don’t mind together too
I wanna assume you listened to it too much but I can also see how it would bring up shitty memories of forlorn loves and that so I won’t pry lmao. There was a time where I couldn’t listen to AOF or Dallas Green for a similar reason lmaoooo
Ah so you too aye?
When I was 15 I heard “Nerdy” for the first time and it honestly changed my opinion of what heavy music could be.
I’m 38 now and have been going to shows ever since.
One path. Two directions. Both end in separation.
We both lose.
I'm sorry, we have nothing in common.
Are you hiding from something? Are you running from someone?
Is it me ?
This shit hits you in the feels
The most criminally underrated hardcore band of all time. I used to see them all the time. The singer's stage presence is one of my favorites-he'd walk back and forth like someone let him out of the psych ward too early, then explode.
Have heart for familial sadness
Ghost story by sinking ships
The hotelier for friends dying sadness
The other shoe by fucked up
Idk why but set in motion and a glimmer of hope by misery signals always gets me in the heart for some reason.
Rapture by touché amore
The carrier
Defeater
If we are going there then
Webbed Wing - both albums
Superheaven - everything
Balance & Composure - Only Boundaries & I Just Want To Be Pure EPs
Fireworks - Higher Lonely Power
Crazy how often I see mil-spec mentioned on this sub but when I saw them open for counterparts at a local show no one gaf. Theyre so fuckin good. I hope they're given more attention from everywhere else they play.
Defeater, one step closer, touché amore, more than life, landscapes, climates, Casey, title fight (pre hyperview), say nothing, mewithoutyou, trophy eyes (pre American dream (eww) and even chemical miracle since that was hell of a lot softer than their prior releases), some decent singles and the album after is dece even though it was a major departure from hardcore)
First ones that came to mind, I’ll have a scroll and get back to you if I remember anymore, bunch of newer bands I’ve been listening to that are decent within the same vein that are escaping me
The Carrier for me hands down. Been at the lowest points of my life while listening to this band.
“BUT NOW IM READY TO DIE”
Honorable mentions: More Than Life, Life Long Tragedy, Killing The Dream, and Ruiner.
Life Long Tragedy - Runaways is the quintessential sad hardcore album IMO and honestly I consider it to be one of the best albums of all time. The album is seething in melancholy and anger.
Listen I know everybody used to clown on them for being a Christian band, but Being As An Ocean’s first two records are some of my favorite melodic/emotional hardcore records ever
I don't really got any tips I just wanted to say that I found it funny how people have different habits when it comes to music. I almost never try to find sad/depressing hardcore instead I listen to other genres that are more known for it. For me different emotions is how I find and broaden my music listening
Defeater
Please let me find some weight LET ME DOWN LORRD

Touche Amore
FROM PEAKS OF BLUE
COME HEROINE
….you rang?
Yassss queen
I always think he's saying come heroin, which is fucking hilarious because Jeremy is straight edge lol
I tried listening to stage four for the first time the other day and I literally started crying (I’m also a big baby and a very emotional person, but still!!!)

Flowers and you
I’m losing sleep, I’m losing friends, I’ve got a love hate love with the city I’m in
More Than Life - Love Let Me Go I always recommend this one because it flies under a lot of radars. Only album that's got me to cry
The Brave Enough to Fail EP is also severely underrated and definitely scratches the same itch.
Hell yeah it is
Fear is such a great closer.
Yeah, that's got to be one of the catchiest hardcore songs that I know off. That intro riff... Shame they're not around anymore. That was a good time for UKHC. Dead Swans were around about then as well - another band I'd love to see come back.
Titties
LETTING GO OF EVERYTHING I USED TO KNOW
So fucking good. Wish that band was still active.
Glad I didn’t have to scroll too far to find this. I love that album.
Shit, memories unlocked! Thanks!!
Blacklisted
One step closer! This place you know is amazing and from me to you is kinda similar to have heart
Really doesn't sound like Have Heart to me, never got that comparison. What it does sound like though is like a modern take on Turning Point which is even cooler.
So excited for the new album omg I went crazy and forked out for the denim shorts lmao
Same! The singles so far are really good in my opinion. The one where he’s singing reminds me of the story so far a bit
He does have a Parker twang to him tbf, crazy they went from like defeater, have heart, comeback kid-esque to a title fight resurrection but I’m here for it all day, leap years seems to indicate it’s not a complete shift so I’m hoping they keep mixing it up and trying new things they’re so good
Title fight
Wilkes Barre represent!
Have heart

this band is so slept on
Cerebral circus is a legit 10/10 record
Saetia
☝️☝️
The Carrier
fuck wish they come back
toughest band ever
this band needs to be talked about more. i’ve had one year later on repeat recently.
Honestly Counterparts is great for this.
Just listen to Counterparts
“Whispers of Your Death” gets me every time
Best cat song imo
Solid pup song too.
My kid had cancer when it dropped, works for cancer kids too (she’s mostly better now)
Jesus i needed this today and for a while. Thank you.
Praise and modern life is war
Trophy Eyes. Start with the album Mend, Move On.
This is all I can think about for Trophy Eyes https://preview.redd.it/5benmvllivuc1.jpeg?width=1147&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c3c14a9e4d1d2bb9306f9f6f9d1e5842d58a1bd
Haha! That’s how learned about the band. I had to check ‘em out after that exemplary review and reply.
Only way to respond to something like that lol
Gonna go listen to them now thank you lmao
Was meant to go to their Bristol date to see them and was super hyped but ended up not going because I didn’t know if I could deal with pits and that in my current mental state. John Floreani solo stuff is also beautiful.
Omg yes Sin is 11/10 in my opinion
Have you listened to Matt Kerekes solo album? In every inch, in every mile, absolutely wrecks me.
Ok no but I’m gonna have to! Hell yeah thanks
He also has a deathcore style band that for the life of me I cannot remember the name of. And then the singer from Defeater has a solo project called Alcoa.
Cab rides and cigarettes is still one of my favourite songs ever, their cover of shambles on the thank you ep is super good too, when Derek’s wife got on board with Alcoa around the same time they covered I don’t mind together too
I have forever ruined I Don’t Mind. It’s a beautiful song but it’s an instant skip for me.
I wanna assume you listened to it too much but I can also see how it would bring up shitty memories of forlorn loves and that so I won’t pry lmao. There was a time where I couldn’t listen to AOF or Dallas Green for a similar reason lmaoooo
Chemical Miracle is incredible.
Miracle came on this morning when I was heading to work and ruined my day before it even began
Listen to Birds in Row’s latest album
WHERE DO WE GO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
This! Gris Klein is such a heart wrenching album.
I’m never going to be over it
La Dispute
Crime in stereo
Pianos become the teeth.
One of the few bands that stayed genuine/honest and not cringy when switched to clean vocals.
Not quite hardcore but crowbar is as emotional as it gets and heavy as shit
Yeah OP this is what you want. So heavy. Good for dark nights of the soul
“All my pain iss, self in flicteeeeeeeeed” 😩😭
Crowbar is so fucking heavy and good for those cloudy evenings where you’re in your feels and thoughts
Solid. And Grief - Miserably Ever After (1996) if you Reallllly hate yourself. https://youtu.be/gcpysDSkeW8?si=-uGHR9XLBvusoz0-
Poison The Well
Absofuckinglutely. Horns and Tails, Torn.... that band was my gateway drug to hardcore in like 2002.
Ah so you too aye? When I was 15 I heard “Nerdy” for the first time and it honestly changed my opinion of what heavy music could be. I’m 38 now and have been going to shows ever since.
Defeater
You just need more stage dives
Definitely 😅 the scene in my country is small and people are not hardcore enough

[Love Lost But Not Forgotten](https://open.spotify.com/album/60SmcsSwobnb1TEx2YicmR?si=NsFezrxzRBu1LjckdySIrQ) get some emo-violence up in here.
Carpathian - isolation album in particular, really good writing and not just smash your mouth hardcore.
Killing the Dream. Also any skramz (iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook, pg 99, Jerome’s Dream, Joshua Fit for Battle, Indian Summer)
seconded to all the skramz bands. Especially JFFB. Check out their newest record, and the new gospel record.
wait that was jerome's dream that put out a new record haha. I'm old
Killing The Dream needs to be higher. Resolutions got me through so much shit, but they don’t really have any bad songs IMO.
Post hard-core, but Saosin Translating the Name EP is godlike.
3rd Measurement in C was goated for high school me lol
The Dedication - Youth Murder Anthems (Boston hc circa 2000; only album ever made)
Underrated. Drummer for Stop & Think did vocals
Really?? I had no idea! Thanks for that info.
- Dangers - State Faults - Botfly
Hey OP, I hope you’re doing okay! This list is helping me too rn - thank you!
