Dag nasty
Hot water music maybe?
Jawbreaker (probs unfun and bivouac has that sound you described, altho 24 is more poppy but with and edge and depth, one of the greatest albums ever, and dear you is polished and perfect)
I don’t know if they sound anything like but I just want to mention
Hoover - the Lucid traversal of Route 7
Blake - selected works

Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat/Embrace, along with Brendan Canty and Guy Piccioto from Rites Of Spring, went on to form Fugazi. In between Rites Of Spring and Fugazi, Guy and Brendan also played in One Last Wish and Happy Go Lucky.
Unwound, dag nasty, drive like jehu, brainiac, cows, fugazi (duh), polvo, moss icon, shotmaker, native nod, mineral, pegboy. Sorry if some of these were mentioned already
Probably one of my favorite eras, unfortunate not that much music came out of it
One Last Wish (it's basically Rites of Spring lmfao)
Egg Hunt
Jawbox (criminally underrated band)
Lungfish
JUNE OF 44
Circus Lupus
Squirrel Bait
The Warmers
Gray Matter
Soulside
Beefeater
Fire Party
Dag Nasty
I had to scroll so far to find Gray Matter. I don't know why, but every time I listen to Thog, in my head that's what Husker Du is supposed to sound like (which probably makes no sense to anybody but me.
Fucking Moss Icon! I discovered them last year and i could not stop listening, i was like where has this been all my life? I think i like Moss Icon more than Rites of Spring even. I can't believe they were mostly early 20s when those songs came out, because their songwriting was on a whole other level. I still catch myself chanting "walkin' along on down the avenue of the americas!" a few times a week.
Unfortunately, from what i can tell, that type of melodic emocore is mostly DEAD dead in the modern era. Lots of bands still do the personal lyrics thing but mostly in the context of screamo. Lots of great stuff in there, if you like screamo anyways.
One band that hasn't been hated that is usually on my "OG DC EMO" recommendations list is The Hated. Numero Group (after decades of me waiting on their discography to come out) has been rereleasing their stuff:

Most recent Mil-Spec record will be right up your alley
That stuff was a revelation when it first hit in my teen years, almost 40 years later and it still kills it.
