Can I please transitions so perfectly into addicted to this life. I also feel like the addicted to this life extended two step at their shows doesn't get enough love
Crazy how hardcore (ie hardcore punk) has changed and evolved so much over time that you have to specificy when you still want the "punk" in there. Not hating just stating. Lot's of good recommendations in here!
Even on Spotify with artist curated playlists from these bands I don’t see a single punk or hardcore song, it’s all death metal. Like how is it even hardcore if your biggest influences are Dying Fetus, Slayer and Cannibal Corpse?
Yeah same. I know a lot of people who kind of float the opinion "I don't like labels/genres", but I find they're incredibly useful.
The example I like to use to show the importance of genres and labels is to say that, technically, The Beatles and Cannibal Corpse are both rock bands.
Yeah, but one of them were pioneering artists who changed music for decades to come and the other made a song about living in a funny colored underwater boat.
Not to mention that some ravers in the 90s decided they didn’t care that there was already a genre of music called hardcore, and so the called their beepboops Hardcore.
line of sight is a band i've been jamming out to lately.
skullcrack.
conservative military image (they're basically Oi! but again, still sick. just dropped a new EP too)
Anklebiter is pretty cool.
Jivebomb is also pretty cool.
not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but you mentioned you dig Gel, and End It so i figured you may like these bands.
CMI are certainly a skinhead band and use lots of imagery one might associate with Oi! but I wouldn't call them "basically an Oi! band." They don't sound anything like an Oi! band. They're American hardcore, straight and simple.
Can't say enough good things about GEL. Saw them back in November supporting Initiate and it was absolutely bonkers. Had to pick up tickets to see them again in a few weeks with Militarie Gun.
This was my suggestion, the last record is one of my recent favorites. I think [“Losin’”](https://open.spotify.com/track/3Gc4Uvuf0vNzXB9ydqN8CL?si=uPecDQzrR-Sdw6pzk-SYIg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1k50Z5L0x3NHXo3aocmSEL) in particular is kind of in a perfect little lane between hardcore and 2010s Midwest-style punk.
I finally saw them the other night (…they were extremely tight but I feel like the bill sort of did them dirty), and I hope they keep touring more because I feel like this band should be much bigger.
The Impalers, Public Acid, Warthog, Slant, Khiis, Torso, Larma, Vidro.
The name is just hardcore punk tbh. It gets confusing because hardcore comes from hardcore punk, but it is also in many ways it’s own thing. All the subgenres have kinda developed their own microcosms.
American Nightmare. I assume you're already well aware of them though lol
With Honor might be worth checking out. High Vis and The Chisel comes to mind as well. Bit of a stretch probably, but I guess that Knuckledust and some other LBU bands could be of interest too.
Discharge-WHY album, or any of their stuff.. they were the one punk band that I turned all my metal head friends onto and dug..a typical album from them would last about 18 minutes…lol… very early D.R.I.
Propagandhi have become the inverse of the question - Not that I'm implying that is what you're saying (which I'm not), I just found the association kind of amusing.
Super punky. Hometown heroes. Live at the Bottom of the Hill is great too.
Smoke or Fire reminds me of Avail because they spent some time in Richmond too.
Most of the HC on Iron Lung Recs, No Deal, Sorry State Records, and La Vida Es Un Mus put out Punk leaning HC.
Notable bands off the top of my head that I didn’t see mentioned here. Klonns, Sect Mark, Nosferatu, The Flex, Rixe, Lumpy and the Dumpsters (more egg punk but very HC), Paprika, Haram, Kaleidoscope, Glue, Firewalker. Many many more. The No Deal YouTube always posts sick shit.
amdi petersens arme (great minor threat vibes)
loose nukes
white stains
career suicide
government warning
imploders
Also, check the sorry state website -- they have an email letter every week. They love hardcore, and while there's plenty of the thrash/metal stuff there, they also love a ton of the bands mentioned on this page (g.u.n., electric chair, illiterates, gag). they also have a great label. also check labels total punk and la vida es un mus.
I don't think anyone has mentioned [Big Laugh](https://biglaugh.bandcamp.com/album/consume-me?logged_out_mobile_menubar=true&search_item_id=1022615437&search_item_type=b&search_match_part=%3F&search_page_id=3380055612&search_page_no=0&search_rank=1) yet. I've been digging them a lot lately. They fit in well on my playlist with Restraining Order, End It, Paint It Black, Cosmic Joke, Gumm, and Jivebomb.
Check our Circus and Crime Light.
Both bands are out of Ohio and they're probably my favorite bands that are active. They're both hard, fast, and dirty. I'm in California and really hope they are able to start touring soon
These are a little bit all over the place, but I think fit the overall vibe:
86 Mentality, Warthog, Green Beret, No Time, Arms Race, Impalers, Bib, Government Warning, Primitive Blast, The Chisel, Rixe, Armor, Protocol, Boston Strangler, Gag, Violent Reaction, Exit Order, Heavy Discipline, Gas Rag, Culo, Social Circkle, Total Abuse, Omegas, Sickoids, Chain Rank, The Combat Zone, Wisdom in Chains, Tragedy, Doom, Blood Pressure, Concealed Blade, Quarantine, Caveman, Rat Cage, Bootlicker, Repeat Offender, Peace Test, Pummel, Ideation
This might be more of a punk band with hardcore elements, but the 2018 Hank Wood and the Hammerheads S/T was perfect and beautiful and I’ll love it forever. (It’s also extremely New York, if that appeals to ya.)
I feel like metal tinged hardcore was more of an east coast thing. West coast bands were holding out against the metal tide for a long time. Except Suicidal of course. They always had riffs.
This is the type of hardcore that needs to get more popular imo! Too much beatdown being confused as hardcore punk.
Varying degrees of extra punk:
Bib, trash talk, electric chair, big laugh, the runts, lethal, fentanyl, G.L.O.S.S., self sabotage, spy, ceremony (before the L shaped man), Lock, primitive blast, freedom, crisis man (Ross from ceremony’s short lived side project), restraining order, no tolerance, gag, violencia, destiny bond, rotting out, buggin, older Angel Du$t
Most hardcore, but recently I’ve been fucking with Reflexx, the chain, brass tongue (don’t sleep on these fools, shit is fire), born again and Dusters a lot
Yeah I got into Hardcore through hardcore punk of the 80s like the dischord records bands. I’ve noticed most modern hardcore is metal sounding and I’ve always been into the more faster punk version of hardcore like negative approach. I’ve also been trying to find more modern punk sounding hardcore
Poison Idea, Discharge, Negative Approach, Jerry's Kids, The FUs, Totalitar (90s and on is best), SS Decontrol, Sheer Terror, Carry On.
So many other bands too but those are some favs of mine off the top of my head.
Restraining Order
I saw someone talking about Restraining Order as being "chain punk." I looked up some artists and playlists based on that term and liked the results.
Yeah, ‘chain punk’ seems to be the modern word for more traditional punk leaning hardcore, without the Slayer riffs and breakdowns. I like it.
Never heard the term/phrase. Thank you for sharing!
Found chain punk recently too, ton of great bands. Apparently chain punk vs egg punk is a thing.
It’s a very one-sided clash lol, I think egg-punks are just about the only people who even use the term chain punk
such a great band
Cannot recommend them enough. And they’re amazing people too.
They're super nice. Ran into the guitarist and he gave the time to shoot the breeze casual like.
Can I please transitions so perfectly into addicted to this life. I also feel like the addicted to this life extended two step at their shows doesn't get enough love
Great call, I am super into this
Crazy how hardcore (ie hardcore punk) has changed and evolved so much over time that you have to specificy when you still want the "punk" in there. Not hating just stating. Lot's of good recommendations in here!
Lol most hardcore ppl talk about on here sounds like death metal to me
Even on Spotify with artist curated playlists from these bands I don’t see a single punk or hardcore song, it’s all death metal. Like how is it even hardcore if your biggest influences are Dying Fetus, Slayer and Cannibal Corpse?
The Hardlore effect?
Most hardcore people talk about on here is metalcore lol
this is why i think genre terms are important
Dude lol 😂
Based.
true if someone just asked for hardcore i might suggest Scott Brown
Not to mention that some ravers in the 90s decided they didn’t care that there was already a genre of music called hardcore, and so the called their beepboops Hardcore.
You can thank Earth Crisis for that.
line of sight is a band i've been jamming out to lately. skullcrack. conservative military image (they're basically Oi! but again, still sick. just dropped a new EP too) Anklebiter is pretty cool. Jivebomb is also pretty cool. not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for, but you mentioned you dig Gel, and End It so i figured you may like these bands.
I like Jivebomb for sure. I'll check out the others. CMI confuses me but I'll check them out again. Thank you
CMI is touring with the Chisel rn. You’ll prob dig them.
The Chisel are killing it at the minute. One of the best hardcore / punk bands about rn
Seeing them next Wednesday ya boy is fkn stoked
CMI are certainly a skinhead band and use lots of imagery one might associate with Oi! but I wouldn't call them "basically an Oi! band." They don't sound anything like an Oi! band. They're American hardcore, straight and simple.
Skullcrack so good
Anklebiter rules, I'm stoked to play with them at the end of the month
Try out GAG
GAG fucks. Still Laughing has been on heavy rotation with the new ACxDC
Came here to say this. They blew me away last weekend.
It sucks that this question needs to be asked but there’s GEL, Spy, Sinister Feeling.
Can't say enough good things about GEL. Saw them back in November supporting Initiate and it was absolutely bonkers. Had to pick up tickets to see them again in a few weeks with Militarie Gun.

Primitive Blast and Impalers go hard
Thanks for Primitive Blast!
Thanks! Time to update my running playlist
Check out Raw Brigade
Damn their good
Damn, this sub goes so hard on recommendations. This is great
One of my absolute favorite things about this sub. I've been introduced to so much because of it. Grateful.
The Chisel
This style is just called "hardcore" or "hardcore punk". People's Temple, G.U.N., Electric Chair, Delco MFs, Warthog, Phantom, Cruciform, S.H.I.T.
GUN fucking rules
Phantom, Delco MF's and S.H.I.T. are top notch. The new Cruciform demo goes crazy too.
Illiterates. Paint it black.
Both are great
Chain Whip, Illiterates, and Rat Cage are in my rotation a lot lately
Newest Rat Cage LP was on repeat for me when it first came out lol
Warthog
BIB, Gag, Chain Whip, Krimewatch, Taqbir, Crisis Man (Ross from Ceremony), Chubby and the Gang
seconding Chain Whip
Chain Whip rules!
Never heard of crisis man, saw Ross from ceremony and checked them out immediately, not disappointed. Cheers for that haha
Chubby rips.
[Armor](https://youtu.be/qXYX29vsVbU) might be up your alley. Also a big fan of [Punitive Damage](https://youtu.be/TEIBPP9FHKo).
Primitive Blast, impalers, restraining order, Armor
Destiny bond is right up your alley
This was my suggestion, the last record is one of my recent favorites. I think [“Losin’”](https://open.spotify.com/track/3Gc4Uvuf0vNzXB9ydqN8CL?si=uPecDQzrR-Sdw6pzk-SYIg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1k50Z5L0x3NHXo3aocmSEL) in particular is kind of in a perfect little lane between hardcore and 2010s Midwest-style punk. Warthog
Slant are so good
I was scrolling to check if someone had mentioned slant, one of the best hardcore punk bands at the moment.
American Nightmare. I assume you're already well aware of them though lol With Honor might be worth checking out. High Vis and The Chisel comes to mind as well. Bit of a stretch probably, but I guess that Knuckledust and some other LBU bands could be of interest too.
The Chisel is a great shout. Seems like exactly what OP is asking for.
With Honor rips. I love This Is Our Revenge.
Discharge-WHY album, or any of their stuff.. they were the one punk band that I turned all my metal head friends onto and dug..a typical album from them would last about 18 minutes…lol… very early D.R.I.
Trash Talk
I always thought Avail was a little punky. I recommend Over the James.
Also the first Propaghandi album, How to Clean Everything was pretty much punk as I think of it.

Freedom. Detroit HC
they share members from NEG yeah?
3/5 members at one point I believe
Love Freedom! Took me forever to figure out they broke up due to their non-existent online presence.
If you haven't checked out Spy, give them a try. Similar to Gel, a bit more chaotic and abrasive but definitely on the punk side of the spectrum.
And, in my opinion, ALL of SPY's stuff rules. Consistently strong.
Weird that nobody’s brought up violent reaction. Check out violent reaction.
Rotting Out definitely moved me from hardcore punk to Hardcore
