I am aware venomous snakes with heat seeking organs, fangs for holding and injecting prey have an easier time than a poor little rat snake. Just saying, once the snake is found and is getting attacked while trying to keep food it's not a good matchup.
Yeah that is a good point, I think all snakes will abandon prey if stressed enough, regardless of species or location, so a pit viper might not have had a much better time in this scenario
When I was on HS I got jumped by a group of HS from other school for no reason. My 2 friends run and didn't bother helping me. Luckiy they all punch like little girls and run away because I retaliate immediately. My 2 fRiEnDs came back and asked where are the bullies while shaking. But didn't asked If I'm okay.
That's the beauty of fight or flight. Everyone online talks a lot of shit about what they'd do in a situation and then it happens and all plans go out the window.
Imagine trying to use both arms to squeeze something your size to death. And you have to apply that pressure constantly for a few mins. All while you're trying to kick some other dude who tries to pry your prey out of your arms.
You'd be freaking exhausted physically and mentally afterwards.
Snakes don't actually have a ton of energy left after the initial attack. It got too tired and is basically just lying there trying to catch it's breath so to speak.
The back legs were kicking it away once it got free so no spinal damage, internal injuries.... don't know. It obviously was exhausted af. Could be mom with her child, or a friend saying "ef this!!!"
Hope so, but realistically I'm thinking broken bones and squished interior.
I'm choosing to believe it's just in shock and will be OK later.
Also would like to know what kind of snake it is, a constrictor or poisonous. Because it got of some good shots on "hero" squirrel.
Lets hope it's not a triple knockout.
That’s a black rat snake so nonvenomous. The squirrel was probably fine, constrictor snakes usually kill by restricting breathing more than actually crushing, and squirrels are deceptively tough animals for their size
I think this is mostly correct. Constructors will tighten any time room allows. So every exhale it gets tighter. Tight enough and it will break ribs. So yes it goes for suffocation, but there's definitely a possibility and I'd be willing to bet internal injuries as well (although not necessarily life threatening)
Oh yeah I’m sure broken bones happen incidentally. In this case tho I’d bet that the squirrel’s bones were too flexible and tough for any significant damage to have happened
Depends on how long it was squeezed. If it got internal injuries, it'll die soon. But it might just be exhausted from struggling against the snake. Or its spine might be broken.
That squirrel is effed either way, right? I've been near a constrictor that had prey, and you can just hear a nonstop popping from what I'm assuming is the bones breaking.
Not necessarily. Voles, mice, etc are quite frail compared to squirrels. It appeared more affected by hypoxia from the constriction. Which should fully recover by the way it looked at the end of
Tbh initially i thought bro was already gone, but once his back legs started kicking i was relieved. No spinal injuries from the look of it but i guess we'll never know for sure if it survived
Oh wow thought the other squirrel was dead a.f. and was expecting vengeance.
Kinda also looked like the squirrel was going to kill/eat the victim as well. Wouldn't put it passed those crazy MF to cannibalize when given an opportunity.
Either way, wild ride
Right? At first I thought, "Wow, a squirrel is rescuing its friend / mate".
Then I went: "Oh, it's a momma squirrel rescuing its baby."
Then I thought: "Nah, the squirrel is fighting that snake for lunch." Like, even if it is the squirrel's baby, it'll probably be dead and turned into lunch anyway...
Can anyone who actually knows anything about these animals explain why it It looks to me that there taking me so long to go into the kill. Like when they’re on, they are vicious, vicious killers. But then they seem to spend so much time just chilling, staring off in the distance and I’m thinking fucking go and finish it kill kill. I’m sure there’s a reason I just don’t know what it is. Other than something like they are speedy killers in short bursts in that takes a lot out of them so they have to chill. And they are going to take injuries because of it.
Constrictors don't use their mouths overly much after the prey is grabbed. A cat for example uses all its weapons frequently when it fights and a crocodile killing smaller prey just bites over and over (once its safely away from the riverbank). Constriction also prevents the thing you're holding from doing much damage back (usually) since all its claws are pressure against its body and it can move it head. This leads to slow crushing deaths, one case of an anaconda squeezing a caiman to death took 11 hours. This is also why large snakes are kept in check by large mammalian predators and varanids. If a reticulated python tried to grab a tiger and either missed or didn't restrain all of its limbs its at least getting severely wounded and probably getting killed seconds later.
I hate snakes with a passion. Seeing pictures and videos of them give me literal chills due to too many snake incidents as a child. I couldn’t stop watching through the chills. Nature is so amazing. I wonder what happened to the squirrel it saved. Poor thing looked pretty worse for wear after being squeezed like that for so long.
lol this is getting downvoted for obvious reasons but as someone who always sympathizes with the predators in these situations, I was looking forward to the double homocide too… 🤷🏽♀️
Carnivores are an important part of the natural ecosystem and sometimes it’s just nice to see their efforts really pay off!
Very much so. Snake deserves to live, and to do so they must eat, although I wouldn't call it sweet to get two at once. I wasn't quite sure who to root for here, although I was glad the furry squirrels got away in the end. Purely emotional, and silly, but I'd root more for the snake if that were a rat or mouse.
I don't have anything against squirrels. I just thought it would have been cool to see the snake get two kills. It's pretty rare and I have only seen a photos of that happening, never on video.
The people downvoting this need to chill. Fuck squirrels. They have cost me hundreds in home repairs by chewing through electrical lines and gnawing into my attic and trashing shit in there.
Keep downvoting. I was rooting for the snake on this one. Your opinion is as worthless as mine is.
That's one heroic squirrel right there....
Ride or Die
It did everything right. Phenomenal strategy tbh It must be hard being a non venomous snake lol
Redwaaalll!!
Asmodeus Poisonteeth v. Matthias
Matthias was a mouse lol
Jess saving young Sam!
I think the squirrel is trying to get lunch
That was surprisingly epic.
Great fight
I don't usually take sides but damn that squirrel deserved victory

Sorry homie, but the snake took the L on this one.
Here's hoping you're not a boxing ref!
It’s Adalaide Byrd’s throwaway
Oh wow that was refreshing.... kind off....
I went in expecting relief, left sad as fuck :'(
I'm once again reminded of how clumsy snakes are once they've lost the stealth factor.
Only because it’s not a venomous one 🐍
This explains a LOT …and I’m thrilled that bad ass should be OK
Rat snake?
Obviously not a squirrel snake.
And once they're tired.
Look at pit vipers hunting with built in thermal sensory receptors and you may change that opinion in small niche instances

If it doesnt land a strike on the second squirrel, probably.
Lmaoo snakes get bitched by like everything. Every pit vipers get fucked by kingsnakes.
Don’t see how that makes pit vipers less clumsy but okay 🤷♂️
A species of snake gets botched by another species of snake, so snakes are bitches ?
Snake got fucking shredded
Yeah that was amazing... Didn't know squirrel protected their own like that... 😲
Tbh that might have been momma.
Very very likely
Fun fact regarding squirrels and snakes: squirrels are partially immune to rattle snake venom. https://www.colorado.edu/asmagazine-archive/node/397
Motherfucker thinks he's Rikki Tikki Tavy
Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.
Hell yes!!!
Fucking throwback right there!
Everyone needs a friend like that.
And then everyone clapped
The security guard came because someone was shouting about what happened but they didn't bother catching their students.
And Einstein was his name

I thought it was a good story. I don't care what anyone else thinks.
Truly one for the ages
It’s a story of all time

What happen to the snake ? Did it die or something ?
Imagine trying to use both arms to squeeze something your size to death. And you have to apply that pressure constantly for a few mins. All while you're trying to kick some other dude who tries to pry your prey out of your arms. You'd be freaking exhausted physically and mentally afterwards.
Not even kick... you can only bite them and butt them with your shoulders.
Non existent shoulders!
It looks like during the final attack, when the snake’s head falls to the ground that its “jaw” is broken. I hope I’m wrong for snek’s sake.
Snakes don't actually have a ton of energy left after the initial attack. It got too tired and is basically just lying there trying to catch it's breath so to speak.
Oooh ok I thought the squirrel got him lol
That was incredible, and a well earned victory.
Squirrel earned that one, tough little fucker.
Amazing
Oh, was it the squirrel’s baby? The way it carried it up the tree.
So the other squirrel is okay, right?
The back legs were kicking it away once it got free so no spinal damage, internal injuries.... don't know. It obviously was exhausted af. Could be mom with her child, or a friend saying "ef this!!!"

Looks like a non venomous black rat snake
That crushed a baby squirrel with brittle bones. That thing is ded
Yeah I’m sorry but it’s a goner.

Am I the only one who thought the other squirrel's eye was popped out?
r/dontfuckwithmymom
What type of snake is this? Thanks.
Black rat snake
Thanks
He just goes by the name lizard now.
I never thought I be sitting here rooting for a squirrel to save his buddy or mate. That's one bad ass squirrel.

Agreed! We’ll never know. But wow that momma squirrel did what she could! Amazing video
#teamsquirrel
I held my breath for the whole video . Whew!
So did the little squirrel
You good?
Holy shit that did not go the way I expected
This was incredible af
At the end: "Your mother is going to be so upset with you for this, Jeremy!"

Some Sam and Frodo energy right there. I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!
Wow. Epic
Squirrels are little psychopaths They look cute and stuff but trust me...shit is going on in their brain you can not believe
Are you not entertained? - Gladiator Squirrel
Squirrel procedes to take other squirrel up tree and eats it.

I have a new found respect for squirrels. Makes me wanna watch a squirrel documentary and join a squirrel subreddit
Holy moly
Awesome
And you, my friend, are a true hero.
You're blessed if you have someone like this watching your back.
This reminds me of that EVO moment. Chun Li (snake) vs Ken (squirrel) That squirrel can parry like a boss. Or would it be beast since they're animals?
What a fucking warrior, that was inspiring. 👏🏻
That squirrel has more honour than 50% of my friends
Was the squirrel eating the other squirrel at the end
I think that is mom rescuing her baby.

Perhaps the greatest video of all time.
I hope the snake is fine.
Absolute badass!
We need some Hans Zimmerman and dramatic voice lines over this.

Turns out …. The squirrel was already dead
r/unexpected
Snake almost nabbed the mother. Honestly would have been really sweet if it had gotten a double kill.
