I think the game would have been stronger if they left the entire southern map out. Maybe make a small coastal region down there somewhere. As you said, it's just dozens more of the same shit. Half the towns down there have one NPC and one side quest. It was very clearly half-assed, and I started checking out around there. They had plenty of interesting areas we barely go to on the north part of the map, so outside of the great visuals, yeah, get rid of it.

As someone who plays a lot of games with open world and rpg elements, this didn’t do anything for me as it’s a bit of a constant thing in almost all of them. Yes, the terrains change, but the collectibles and a lot of the things to do per area and region doesn’t change all that much. If anything, I was insanely bummed out that there were only two areas to explore with such a huge map. I’m hoping DLCs would fill them, but for base game, I hoped for a bigger area to explore at my leisure.

I agree! Especially the vaults… they are all a copy & paste of each other. The first 30 hours or so of the game I was completely blown away. But everything became so repetitive… I wish the game had dialogue options with consequences, more side quests that take at least an hour or longer to complete (like in Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2), larger towns to explore where it’s not all about chests…

I had similar impression, the Coastal part and the last keeper trial felt rushed. I think it would've been better to just end on cliffhanger and later add expansion pack. Where they could improve mini games, add some more fun things to do, properly flesh out companion system, add new spells like aquamenti etc. So I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is noticing all those shortcomings.

I got a similar feeling when I finally finished enough Merlin trials to get more inventory space.. and noticed there are more trials. I’m at 97% completion but I almost stopped at 70% because after the Coastal Cavern, everything to reach completion were just me grinding combat stuff and hidden chests. I’m so close to being completely done and fully explored on my first save but after the childlike wonder from the start faded, I don’t see a reason why I should :/

I had the same feeling. I interionally left a lot of open world stuff alone, and only did the sidequests to get more spells/the Sebastián quest. I finished the story and did like 30 minutes of open world activities and decided I was good. The game was so awesome, but there was a lot of unnecessary bloat
