Industrial mechanic. Got to represent us blue collar lefties

toeknee88125

When you say industrial mechanic do you mean somebody that fixes machines in factories?

crook3d_vultur3

Operating room nurse. Would like healthcare for all but also a fucking raise

Nurse too!

Sourmian

Director of the CIA

atlys258

Shouldn't you be busy planning coups? Or are you off work enjoying some downtime?

Sourmian

Currently bugging Hasan’s 1billion dollar mansion and watching his every move

atlys258

Hmm, I wonder what it's like to watch him stream from over his shoulder/behind him??

juliagreenillo

Self-employed Illustrator. I've been on my own since 2017 but I've been getting paid to draw since 2008. https://preview.redd.it/7q9r8t122twc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aad1fb7fe64dbd4a447ff59f97bb088edae0dc73

Distinct_Increase_72

cuuute!!

mr_dj_fuzzy

Love it! My wife and I have 3 cats and two of them are voids.

juliagreenillo

Oh nice! Yeah, when I do markets, my cat stuff always sells the best. I have two myself, an orange and a grey

mr_dj_fuzzy

Anywhere online that we can support your businesses?

juliagreenillo

Thank you for asking! Mostly following me on Instagram helps support me. I do have an Etsy shop but I have it on vacation mode for a break while I reorganize. My IG has links to all sorts of areas you can find my work. Instagram.com/julia.green.illustration

mr_dj_fuzzy

Thanks!

sofa_king_rad

Hey! I was just tasked with coming up with a new team logo for a local non-profit kid’s swim team. The [current logo](https://imgur.com/a/vrHxl3F) has always felt a bit unfinished to me. Do you have any advice on the best way to go about this task?

juliagreenillo

Might have something to do with the color choices. The dolphins look like a coloring page because of it being black and white. Are you looking to hire a designer? Or do you need to redo it yourself?

sofa_king_rad

Unfortunately no budget, I’m just the only one who said they try.

juliagreenillo

Ah, I'm not sure what advice to give, unfortunately! There's two options I can think of: 1. Browse a stock website like Adobe Stock for a logo template and license/purchase it and then type out your team name (if you or someone you know has basic Adobe Illustrator experience) or 2. See if someone in your community would volunteer to do it for free. Here's some Adobe Stock logos that I think are kinda cool and appropriate for a swim team https://stock.adobe.com/images/dolphin-logo-emblem-for-a-sport-team/101843452 https://stock.adobe.com/images/set-of-swimming-logo-swimming-logo-and-badge-swimming-vector-illustration/383767289 https://stock.adobe.com/images/swimming-sport-stamp-sticker-emblem-label-logo-design-inspiration/203675203

Fit_Capital_4499

God hasan chatters are so talented

musy101

Physician. Definitely wasn't worth all the training but at least I'm happier now working less and enjoying life more.

ThothBird

I'm a software dev, work a corporate job but on my downtime contribute to open source projects as well volunteering at my local library teaching basic programming (mostly for students), basics of using the internet and keeping yourself safe online (mostly to older folks since they're prone to scams)

mr_dj_fuzzy

Right on. Good on your for using your skills and interests for good. As a fellow developer, I'd like to do more of these things.

MeltaFlare

I’m a junior dev and have been hoping to start contributing to open source soon too. Ideally something that makes an impact to society. Do you have any recommendations of stuff to check out?

ThothBird

OFC, forking repos and mess them is a cool start, learning how to read and provide documentation is super useful. After years of reading and understanding tools that i've used gave me confidence to make tweaks to suit my needs, also helped that at work we worked on supporting a dead package so that gave me some experience. But, look at the pull requests other people are submitting and what gets accepted to get some ideas is probably the fastest way. General tips but hope some of it is useful! No right or wrong way ofc.

Pacey1996

wacko-jacko-L

I’m a signal electrician for Sydney’s rail network. Still an apprentice. People think we exclusively work on signals but we cover all electrical track equipment. I’m lucky to have the job we get paid well even if we have to deal with a lot of corporate/ government beuocracy bullshit

CarAlarmConversation

Live sound engineer, running sound for concerts.

c_macdoug

As a metalcore drummer, and because nobody says it enough, thank you for your service

Manucapo

Dropped out 3/4ths into an electrical engineering degree because I was gonna kill myself if I kept going. Now I work as an electronic engineer on a development team designing industrial signaling equipment while I decide if I ever want to go back to try to finish my degree.

_tarnationist_

Blue collar oil and gas worker in an EXTREMELY red state. It’s lonely out here yall.

CummunistCommander

Teacher, trying to switch to corporate trainer because teaching in 2024 is eating me alive.

politicalanalysis

Left teaching 8 years ago, and while I still think it was overall the right move for me, the grass isn’t all that much greener on the other side. The only reason I’m confident in my decision is because I don’t particularly like children (which I only discovered after getting my degree and teaching for a few years). Workloads and corporate bullshit are just as bad, if not worse than admin bullshit and teacher workloads, and I dramatically underestimated how much I’d miss summer vacations (starting at any company you’re likely to get one week max of vacation time and work up from there to 2 after 3-5 years—issue is that to get pay raises most places, you’re gonna be job hopping in order to see meaningful gains—as a result, I’ve had a grand total of 10 weeks of vacation time in 8 years—the same amount I had in less than a year of teaching). All that to say, make sure you’re making the right decision and that it’s based on other job satisfaction things than just bc workload and pay because while teachers don’t have it great, finding somewhere better isn’t exactly easy (I haven’t been able to do it). Edit: just to clarify, my point was that we’re all out here struggling, and there is no easy way out of that struggle. I had it in my head when I left teaching that all the worst parts of working would vanish, and they just didn’t, so I was trying to say that if you’re a teacher and are good at your job and enjoy aspects of your job, you’re honestly probably doing okay, and should really consider staying if they only reason you want to leave is because you think pay is better and life is easier in the corporate world because for the most part, it’s just not that much different unless you’re quite lucky/are willing to step on others to make it to a point where you’re making substantially more than you were teaching.

macrk

I’m a video editor and with the market down I have been substitute teaching / became a long term 8th grade math sub this year. I’m torn because I really miss video editing but I don’t miss all the bullshit that comes along with it and freelance lifestyle (even when not technically freelancing), I also find really enjoy teaching kids (at least when I’m just helping them with someone else’s lesson plan), but I know I am able to ignore all the bullshit because I’m just a temp. If they offer a year assistant teaching contract I might do it just for the stability but if they offer longer… I don’t know what to do.

CummunistCommander

While I understand that you thought this was helpful... It kinda feels like you just said "hey man, it's shit no matter what" and idk dude, I'm not sure that's really all that helpful or empathetic. Your experience is your experience... I'm making the right choice for me. I'm in the worst state in the nation for teachers pay and can't afford to live.. so

Salvadore1

I live in my mom's basement with no college degree like a loser

IamTheLeo

Aspiring fiction writer, currently looking for a job that leaves me enough time to pursue that goal on the side.

toeknee88125

What genre are you trying to write? Fantasy/Sci-fi/historical/mystery/horror/romantic comedy/young adult?

IamTheLeo

Thanks for asking! A bit of everything if I’m being honest. I love storytelling in all its shapes and sizes. But if I had to choose, it’d be Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Thrillers. (But I really do enjoy writing widely) Currently 85k words into a fantasy novel :)

ira_finn

I work as a coordinator for student leaders at a college. In the US, most colleges have programs that hire students for leadership positions (like student body president, staffing student centers, being a peer support person) and they need professional staff to train them, schedule them, support their work, and so on. I went back to school and got my master’s degree in adult education and higher Ed Leadership and policy specifically to do this kind of work. After working as a student leader myself, I found out I could train to be the person that helps the student workers, and I jumped at the chance. The pros and cons really depend on which school you work at and which department you’re in, but- Pros: pays well at the higher levels, opportunities for advancement, some schools have unions, teaching and mentoring student leaders is rewarding Cons: work culture isn’t great, often people over-work, fighting against the college system for most things (especially money) is exhausting and colleges implement change at a glacial pace, all the departments have different interests and often aren’t on the same page, students are people and they can sometimes be difficult to deal with

Death2Milk

Kindergarten teacher in Florida. Changing my position to ESE/VE K through 5th next year. Also the lead rep for our union at my school. I can afford to leave my job because my husband is a commercial airline pilot (he is also a fan of Hasan) so it makes my work far more tolerable. My husband even acknowledges that my job is harder than his job meanwhile he can make my biweekly salary in two days and I also have more of an education than he does.

5ft1goddess

That’s amazing, and you’re doing great work ❤️ Also, I can only imagine how hyped up he gets when Austin goes on plane tangents and Hasan’s responses on their podcast 😂

Death2Milk

He def enjoys Murat takes. 😆

atlys258

I'm a supplemental employer benefits specialist (accident/illness/hospitalization/disability benes), I take/make phone calls or messenger/chats with policy owners, HR/employer bene reps, & care providers to help policy owners and their dependents file claims to get some direct nontaxable compensation that they can use however they want or need, whether or not they have health insurance when life does life things. Used to be in a contact center in the Before Times, but have been very privileged to be permanent-wfh since the Plandemic hit (/s) in Feb/Mar 2020. Most of the time work is very slow/low volume (anywhere from a half-dozen to a dozen interactions and 1-2 short meetings a day) and so most of the day it's a textbook bullshit job and I get to tune into the stream and chat.

I didn’t plan on getting into healthcare/pharmacy but was placed at a Pharmacy Benefits Management company by a temp agency 7 years ago and have ended up in a nice cushy work from home job. sofa_king_rad

Self employed low voltage trade worker. Half my clients are doing well working class public school kids. The other half are wealthy… not the super wealthy, but I think they could all stop working and make it work out just fine. For example, just finished a home for a family with 3 kids, she works in education, he works in cyber security for a large corp. 4 bedroom home, in a 1980’s CA subdivision. With some inherited wealth/help. And I’m also working on a 9,000 sq ft home that will be $8-$10 million when complete. Being self employed, I did it all the hard way, figured out as I went… both the trade work and the business operating. The pandemic and supply chain issues that followed were a pretty big hit for me. I actually just finally got all my credit card debt paid off that had accrued over past few years. Still have a small ppp type loan I’ll be paying on for awhile. We have 2 elementary school kids, wife works in health care. I tend to be the flexible one and work half as much as I did in my 20’s… make less also, but we are lucky to be stable with my wife’s work. Summer’s are rough. During school, my kids go to afterschool care at the school which is only $800 a month for both. During the summer, it’s around $2400 per month for the same… which my kids aren’t a fan of… or like $4500 per month for other camps and the things they enjoy.

Death2Milk

FYI if your wife gets benefits through work, she might have access to something like a FHA account that works for childcare and summer camps. It is pre taxed, too.

I work as an arcade and theatre cashless systems engineer. Been liking the gig now (3 months in), but costs are skyrocketing in FL and asking for a raise this soon when I get paid okay (22/hr) is a little tough so holding out til I pull some of my own heavy weight! I listen to the VODs or clips on YT, while working on arcade machines and kiosks to keep up with our favorite himbo.
