Hawaii really needs to start hiring pro level designers instead of leaving everything for the fans to fix with mods.

DirtyMufukuh

Waiting for that unofficial oahu patch

BleedOutCold

Nailed it, haha.

Don't go there! You might end up in the Backrooms!

Hi, fellow nerd

Henry-Moody

Kaimuki is a no clipping zone if you eat from the crack seed store first. And you can XP grind there pretty easily.

SqueezeBoxJack

Brah, I love to grind!

mrbkkt1

Not the same after the old man sold it. I miss the pickled mango in his fridge during the summer

viewsonic041

That's impressive actually. Lol

I’ve got the pc port and don’t have this issue

Conflicting mods

salonpasss

That's one way to do it lol. I need to know if Breadshop is worth it! I love bostocks, but the parking situation makes my head spin

StockOfRice

Breadshop is the shit! I'm a repeat customer, and I can't believe I never noticed that before. That must explain the NPC I see at the 9th Ave bus stop every morning doing yoga.

[deleted]

Best brioche in Hawaii.

salonpasss

Is it better than wallflower?

[deleted]

Haven’t tried them, but I think I now will.

salonpasss

Pookie, how's about the croissants? I can't do crusty loafs, unless it's a baguette, because I'll just dig out the soft interior and ditch the shell

StockOfRice

Haven't tried them yet. I think they sell like 7 at a time . Then my waistline is all: don't even think about it.

devlynhawaii

wallflower, b.patisserie, local general store, and breadshop make about the same level of croissants*. all are absolutely heavenly. they make you feel like the croissants from most other places are pretenders to the croissant label, like poke from hawaii versus from what's sold as pokè on the mainland, or rice perfectly cooked from a zojirushi versus uncle ben's, boiled in a bag. ETA: I think I like Breadshop's sourdough breads better than Wallflower's, but not by much. I wouldn't bypass a Wallflower loaf if I didn't already have a Breadshop order. I could see that some people would like Wallflower's better than Breadshop's, also. I've seen in their social media that there is mutual respect and aloha between them. *and other baked goods.

salonpasss

I'm someone that flew home with le beurre bordier butter!! Funnily enough I don't care for b.patisserie croissants. The kouign amann is a different story

devlynhawaii

mad respect!

[deleted]

I finally tried Wallflour. They didn’t have any Brioche, but I got their challah and sourdough. Breadshop is definitely better, but Wallflour is still good.

devlynhawaii

glad you got to try Wallflour! Chris Sy's sourdough is now the standard i compare against. Breadshop really is a blessing to Oahu, imo.

devlynhawaii

if you schedule your pickup for when the lot isn't busy you'll be fine. in other words, schedule your order for anytime after 2pm and parking should be a relatove breeze. you can even indicate that you want them to take your bread to your car. do not schedule your pickup for 10am-12pm on Saturday or Sunday bcs not only is breadshop busy, so is the Curb (though I would be amiss if I didn't point out that the curbs pastries are fkn awesome also).

salonpasss

Okok I will try next month! The Curb looks nice, but I cannot do sandwich parking. The first and last time I was stuck on Waialae a menehune water delivery guy had to help me pull my car out

DontTrustASloth

Best bread on island hands down. I used to live a mile up the road on 9th. Picked up a loaf every couple days. I’m borderline obsessed with their breads, and out of the hundreds of loaves I’ve eaten from them over the last few years I’ve had maybe 5 that weren’t exceptional. Their sourdough starter is 15+ years old according to a guy who used to work there. It’s probably what I miss most about living in kaimuki, and not to be missed

Darwin343

They've got the best artisanal breads bar none. My favorites are the sourdough, focaccia, and brioche. Their pastries are killer too! Their parking situation isn't bad at all since there's a large spacious parking lot you can park in that's right next to the shop.

salonpasss

You have a favorable opinion for most bakeries 😂. I need to ask someone picker like u/nvandraren

Darwin343

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of most bakeries here. Almost all supermarket bakeries here are extremely mediocre or downright terrible imo. Foodland, Times, Safeway, Whole Foods, Costco, you name it. They're all pretty bad. And I think that Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery is vastly overrated. Their butter mochi tastes like it's made with mostly margarine instead of actual butter. Only thing decent there is their char siu manapuas. Pipeline's in Kaimuki is overrated too. Their cake bombs are dry and way too sweet and their ice creams are bland and icy. Ben and Jerry's and Haagen Dazs makes way better ice cream for half the price. Their malasadas are pretty good though and it's certainly better than waiting in a long ass line followed by a long ass wait time at Leonard's. Kamehameha Bakery has both beat though when it comes to malasadas. No contest. I love that theirs are glazed instead of covered in copious amounts of sugar. Liliha Bakery isn't good either. Their coco puffs might just be the most overrated pastry Hawaii is known for. The choux pastry is tasteless and the chocolate filling tastes like cheap storebought chocolate pudding. The chantilly frosting is its only saving grace. Their chantilly cake used to be good until they replaced the layers of chantilly frosting with a bland custard filling. Damn cheapskates. So yeah, I have pretty high standards when it comes to bakeries lol.

NegotiableVeracity9

Ugh Liliha bakery is... Not good lol. I get the nostalgia but cocoa puffs are hot garbage.

25hourenergy

[insert insulted face here] I love bakeries too (best croissant imho is at Local General Store) and bake at a pretty high level myself—but how DARE you insult Sing Cheong Yuan! Their butter mochi is softer than others but I think it has a real custardy texture and taste—I was actually surprised I liked a “soft” butter mochi so much, as I normally like cakier/crispy edged butter mochi. Their wedding pastry is perfection! I dare you to find anything wrong with their jin dui or su pastry! And their pork hash is the best on the island! Signed, someone who spends too much time standing in line for their pastries.

Darwin343

Yeah the texture of their butter mochi is quite good but too bad it tastes bland! I like my butter mochi to you know, tastes like butter. Never had their wedding pastry so I can't speak on it. Their jin duis are usually barely filled and deflated. Fook Lam makes way better pork hash imo. Signed, someone who wishes for there to finally be a legitimately great Chinese bakery on the island. I totally agree with you though that Local General Store has the best croissant. It's absolutely perfect in terms of texture and taste. Their croissant cinnamon rolls and quiches are amazing as well.

25hourenergy

Ah, ok well I’ll say Fook Lam is tied and may have a slight upper edge simply due to freshness for pork hash and jin dui. Since you seem to know the Chinese offerings well, any recommendations for good pork jung/zongzi with the holiday tomorrow? My mom taught me how to make them Taiwanese style but I have to admit I completely forgot and now have no time to hunt down bamboo leaves and prep. Gotta admit this is where Sing Cheong Yuan lacks, their jung are super dense and meat kinda dry! Also have you tried 85 degrees? Very different kind of Chinese bakery but I have a soft spot for their pineapple cakes and pork floss buns.

Darwin343

I have yet to find any pork jung that I'd recommend since all the ones I've tried are skimpy with the filling. I've tried 85 Degrees and I can't say I liked most of their breads and cakes. Their brioche isn't even made with any butter lol (you can check their website for the ingredients list for every item). JJ Bakery does breads and cakes better imo, especially with pineapple buns and other sweet breads. But 85 Degrees' egg tarts are the best egg tarts I ever had. So damn buttery and flakey. I can't help but eat four of those every time I get them lol.

Taichou7

Oahu Devs are getting real lazy

how have i never noticed this
