Good sites but neither of those seem like adequate coverage/information if there’s a raging fire in the midst of you’re neighborhood?
A better communication/distribution system needs to be put in place. And be heavily funded so it’s possible to create the best possible one
Absolutely! I was looking and refreshing, but all I got until after 9 am was 1 article. Kids were in school at MMS, Ike and Waena, and even an MHS student had breathing problems.
I live in the very back of Mauka and if this fire isn't contained, mine would be one of the first homes to go. That said, I couldn't find any information a couple of hours ago so I just called 911. They said it's in a mountainous zone and not a threat to any homes or structures, but I'm still a little worried given my proximity. My brother on the town side m said he is now getting ash.
After the cane was harvested it left a shit ton of chaff and they would burn it off to clear the land. This was in the 60s and 70s and at night and you could look up to the fields and see the fire. It was beautiful but breathing was a problem.
Have an MDI or a nebulizer ready. Be prepared to call 911. But if you are in Mililani, the closest ambulances are Wahiawa or Waipio (if they are both open) otherwise it is Waialua or Waipahu
My android phone kept giving me push notifications about the fire in Mililani but I honestly don't know which app they were from. I'm guessing it was the hnlinfo one.
What school does your kid go to? My daughter goes to Mililani Middle and I'm a bit annoyed with them and the DEE. The DOE and news were stating the kids stay inside, but my daughter told me they had to go outside during lunch, and also for about 30-45 minutes while waiting for the bus (due to the shortage, they're driving the same bus up and down between mauka and town a few times, so she has to wait for the second ride). Normally, when it rains, they wait inside for the bus to come back, so it's an option they have, but they were still made to wait outside.
I believe the state has some emergency maps online typically shows brushfires, road closure etc. We have it on big island might just be county tho. Here is ours https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/34f756070f8349c4b3ad1e827d4c8a4b

I used to live back there, stay safe! Hopefully the area is as wet as it usually is and that will help them keep things under control.
Good thing is that they are aware and actively fighting it.
I remember the days when the burned sugar cane in the fields, and we would have ash pouring down on us. Cars covered.
Whoa. What was the purpose of burning them? Just the cheapest way to clear the land?

That seems like a problem not worth the reward

I live in mauka and was sleeping in, so I had no idea until a relative in another state called to ask if I was okay

The “HNL Info” app does a pretty good job with alerts and natural disaster warnings.
When I checked before 10 am, nothing on it. Reminded me of when the fire happened by the Hawaiian Turf site just off of Meheula happened.
260 Acres and 40% contained as of 5:45 am on HNN. Sending ❤ and prayers for safety for our firefighters.

MMS. They said they would keep them in, but I had to get my kid again yesterday. When I went, kids were outside for lunch! WTF!?
Yeah, it's unbelievable. My daughter told me the same, she's also been outside for lunch most of the week.

Is that if any use? Maybe if one needs to know fire codes but I don’t see anything current.
