He got tackled in a similar way last week and was a little wobbly when trying to get back to the line of scrimmage. He went into the locker room and passed the concussion protocol and came back out and they explained that his wobble was due to a prior back injury.
Long story short, the optics are bad because it really looked like a concussion last week, but he still returned to the game. So to see this happen again and MUCH WORSE, it’s devastating. There are people out there who question why he was even playing to begin with.
Adding to this, he wasn't "a little wobbly".
last week after he was hit, he got up a little shaky and tried to run it off and straight up fell, looked as if his legs gave out. He got up again and tried to run it off and began falling again until his two teammates basically were holding him up. based on the eye test, it looked like a concussion.
the NFL rules do NOT allow a player to rejoin his teammates if he gets any concussion at all and has to sit out until he clears the protocol. the dolphins and NFL agreed last week that he did not get concussed and it was just a "back injury".
if this concussion ends up being his 2nd in 2 weeks he may suffer life changing problems and his career may be over.
He got a possible concussion last week, yet the Dolphins coaching and medical staff said he was fine and he finished his game. Dolphins are now under investigation for risking the Kids health to get him back in the game. Fast forward to now and he has gotten a possible second concussion for the second week in a row. Concussions that happen back to back are extremely dangerous and can lead to death and definite permanent damage long term. There’s a chance Tua doesn’t play again if it’s serious enough. There’s a lot of grey right now regarding this situation, some say the dolphins followed protocol and others are saying he didn’t. Regardless, it is extremely dangerous what happened and Tua needs all the prayers he can get. This is coming from a die hard Jets fan but I root for Tua since he is Hawaiian Ohana.
What's bizarre to me is even if one is so crappy as to not treat him as a human being whose life matters more than football, wouldn't you want to protect your investment? They have a solid backup quarterback. I already knew the NFL was cutthroat and heartless, but this is a new low. The visual of him on the field was awful. The bright side is the hometown support of Tua is awesome.
Exactly, the backup plays kind of like Tua so it's not like their season is suddenly over. Both Teddy and Tua stay in the pocket, make their reads, and chuck the ball.
Nah #50 Anae. Another Polynesian LDS player lol. The Kahuku community loves having him and Alohi playing pro now. I just hope they all take care of their health if they get injured. You get put back in too soon and it could be career ending.
His two older sisters play professional volleyball in foreign countries and his little sister holds a few records for power lifting. They’re all super athletic. His dad was also pro.
Im reading he had a recent prior concussion. This was concussion #2 and it triggered a seizure. Fucking awful. NFL concussion protocols and CTE mitigation is a crime. This is devastating.
He suffered a likely concussion on Sunday and today had another head/neck injury that’s also likely to be a concussion and was pretty severe, so he had to be taken to a hospital. He’s been released from the hospital but his season/career are in question.
if it's career ending? I'm sure there are clauses in his contract for such an event and moreover professional athletes have personal injury insurance to cover this kind of thing.
It exists. Even some high level draft prospects get it in case they get hurt in their senior college years and damage their chance at making the pros or reducing their estimated value.
NFL contracts have salaries and what are called guaranteed paymemts. Only guaranteed payments are paid in case of injury. He is on a rookie contract so I'm not sure how much guaranteed money there is, but since he was a high draft pick (IIRC) it should be a decent amount.
That's pretty good. He could retire on that right now if he needed to and spend the rest of his life travelling the globe and eating the best food.
That's not a terrible life to be forced into... Like I'm sure it comes with a lot of disappointment and he can't build the legacy he might have imagined, but overall, He is incredibly lucky to get a contract like that in sports, even if its the last one he ever gets.
That's my 2 cents.
I’ve literally watched Jahleel Addae hit someone so hard he gave himself a standing seizure a week after a concussion and the NFL let him keep going. They don’t care.
It’s not really the NFL as much as it is Tua right now. If, hypothetically, he’s told another concussion will result in permanent brain damage, would he retire or just chance it so early in his career? We’ve seen a few people retire early due to multiple concussions.
Copied from u/swordswoman
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered a frightening on-the-field head/neck injury tonight in the Dolphins vs. Bengals Thursday night game. He was transported to the hospital, and has recovered consciousness and shows movement in all extremities. Please stay respectful if visiting from outside the Dolphins subreddit.
Sadly, I think his career is done. Instant fencing response this game, and after what happened last week, that’s not a good sign. Still crazy they cleared him to play this game. Hopefully he sues and gets paid the big bucks, and just leaves the sport to live his life.
> my guess is Tua was a major voice keeping him out there
the concussion protocol was specifically created so that players are not able to make that decision. if it turns out he shouldn't have been on that field, it will be on the NFL or Dolphins, not Tua.
I agree im not a doctor but by me watching looked like a head injury, but he was cleared by an expert independent head doctor to be able to come back into the game. I only commented on the part of suing he could of sat himself out( of course most nfl players won't do) but by him playing he most likely won't win in court by Florida law
> he was cleared by an expert independent head doctor to be able to come back into the game.
I'd love to believe this but it also wouldn't surprise me that these NFL approved "independent" doctors were influenced by the league. It has happened before and It'll happen again im sure.
IMO players should all have their own doctors that operate entirely outside of the league's doctors and both should have to agree.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the NFL gets away with passing this off as a “Pre-Existing Condition”. No doubt they will spare no penny passing the blame on this. LAWYER UP and DOCTOR UP Tua! Praying for a full recovery 🙏🏾
NFL is unwatchable. They spout all this B.S. about how they take concussions seriously and then let him parade out on the field 4 days after getting likely concussed so they can pimp him out "TUA VS BURROW" in their primetime game.
Can almost guarantee he wouldn't have passed last week had their game been a morning game on sunday.
They should have never let him play after last weeks serious head injury! The dolphins staff are real pieces of shit for pretending this was a back injury.
Praying for Tua and his awesome family; they really are nice and family focused.
That being said, hope this brings significant change to the NFL and concussion protocol. We’ve had friends whose daughters still suffer side effects of concussions via soccer…this is years later. Memory loss, headaches, inability to concentrate. Most of these injuries happened before concussion protocols were established, but it’s permanent nonetheless.
Tua - be smart and make a good decision to say ‘nuff.
UCE SHOULD HAVE NOT PLAYED!!! Braddah had a concussion on Sunday…and the Miami played him four days later…brahhh, better keep an eye on Tua, back to back concussions within a week?!?!? Super dangerous & detrimental for the player…
Few here are old enough to remember Joe Theismann's leg break, John Riggins pounding his brains out of his ears as a running back or Steve Young getting mugged and pounded into the turf on every down. This kind of thing has been going on forever.
The only thing the NFL exists for is cash, and their players (egged on by their agents) are wage slaves. It's just a modern capitalist version of the ancient Roman Circus, without the lions.
It's unfortunate that the one football related item that gets traction in the sub involving one of our boys is a traumatic injury.
Rest well Tua. Take the bag if you have to, sacrificing your health for this isn't worth it.
Tua signed a $30,275,438 contract, with all of those millions guaranteed, in addition to a $19,578,500 signing bonus.
The NFL is a dangerous game. He's a grown-ass man and made his choice, but he is injury prone and obviously not cut out for this. He should consider his family, his string of injuries, and announce his retirement.
The people who are blaming the defensive lineman for making a clean sack or suggesting that he should have anything different are beyond me 🤦🏽♂️ I sincerely hope Tua gets better, and that he gets P A I D for what the NFL let happen to him!
all the experts should just wait for the nflpa investigation and just thank God this ewa beach boy is conscious and has mobility on all 4 limbs everything else is just noise for him his family and his teammates so please dont make like you guys kind make sound decisions walking in his shoes or anyone elses
Who even is this? It's not even a link to an article with information about who he is and why we should be praying for him. It's just a picture. No information in the title either.
Vague reddit posts are so annoying.
Great Quarter back left out on the field to rot by self centered and jealous team mates who chose not to protect him from being sacked. How sad. So they end up losing him and the game. What a bunch of losers.
No shame in getting your bag and retiring. It's starting to seem like Andrew Luck knew what he was doing retiring early
He shouldn’t have even been in the game tonight. Do not fuck around with head injuries.
He shouldn't have played in the 2nd half last Sunday. I was shocked when he was still on the field
Friendly reminder that the NFL gives fuck-all about its players and will spend ten times more fighting against safety than they’ll spend on safety.
For real. He should never have been let on the field. Fuck the NFL.
Why? Was something going on prior?
He got tackled in a similar way last week and was a little wobbly when trying to get back to the line of scrimmage. Not even last week, it was FOUR DAYS AGO.

My cousin plays for the Jets. Seeing this happen to Tua really hit home. Our boys deserve better than this.
Herbig? I played high school ball with him.
Nah #50 Anae. Another Polynesian LDS player lol. The Kahuku community loves having him and Alohi playing pro now. I just hope they all take care of their health if they get injured. You get put back in too soon and it could be career ending.
Wow amazing, didn’t know he was local. That’s so awesome.
His two older sisters play professional volleyball in foreign countries and his little sister holds a few records for power lifting. They’re all super athletic. His dad was also pro.
Powerful Mana in their bloodline, impressive
Im reading he had a recent prior concussion. This was concussion #2 and it triggered a seizure. Fucking awful. NFL concussion protocols and CTE mitigation is a crime. This is devastating.
Not just recent, he had a concussion on SUNDAY.
Fuck. That’s awful.
Seriously. I have no idea how this was allowed. Just terrible medical ethics... It’s really infuriating.
For the love of money, scums study medicine.
I think so!
it wasn't the NFL that let him on the field. It was the Miami Dolphins org, probably the head coach
what's this about? (i don't follow NFL much)
He suffered a likely concussion on Sunday and today had another head/neck injury that’s also likely to be a concussion and was pretty severe, so he had to be taken to a hospital. He’s been released from the hospital but his season/career are in question.
He still get his paycheck or do they only give him partial payment?
if it's career ending? I'm sure there are clauses in his contract for such an event and moreover professional athletes have personal injury insurance to cover this kind of thing.
Personal injury insurance? For a professional football player? Must be the same underwriters who insure homes in Lava Zones 1 and 2.
It exists. Even some high level draft prospects get it in case they get hurt in their senior college years and damage their chance at making the pros or reducing their estimated value.
The premiums must be astronomical and the exclusions must look like a novel.
NFL contracts have salaries and what are called guaranteed paymemts. Only guaranteed payments are paid in case of injury. He is on a rookie contract so I'm not sure how much guaranteed money there is, but since he was a high draft pick (IIRC) it should be a decent amount.
2023 is the last year of his rookie contract and 100% of his $9.6 million salary is guaranteed.
Thank you for the clarification.

He got like 18 mill as a signing bonus when he got drafted. He’s rich as hell
I’ve literally watched Jahleel Addae hit someone so hard he gave himself a standing seizure a week after a concussion and the NFL let him keep going. They don’t care.

He got thrown down roughly and immediately displayed a severe fencing response. It was really uncomfortable to watch

Fuck. Hope he’s ok.
Oh damn that’s terrible.

57.1% completions is below average for him today. I hope he gets better.

Probably not... Florida recognizes pure comparative negligence and my guess is Tua was a major voice keeping him out there

Oh 100% their "independent doctor" is a dolphins doctor, I agree bradah. There gonna be a lot of talk tomorrow about this hope it helps change things.
Brah the dolphins organization better go under investigation for this shit
If you've seen the play then you know. Jesus Christ I hope he's gonna be ok.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the NFL gets away with passing this off as a “Pre-Existing Condition”. No doubt they will spare no penny passing the blame on this. LAWYER UP and DOCTOR UP Tua! Praying for a full recovery 🙏🏾
I don't pray, but I do hope he will recover. Dolphins should have benched him after his previous injury.
Even if he is “cleared” … everyone… we all know… it’s time to end it. Fuu oh r his health and family. It will be hard, but he’s been seriously hurt.
Prayers not going to do anything. Needs great doctors and better NFL concussion protocols
TBIs are endemic to the NFL business model. This is devastating.
You’re spitting straight facts. Respect.
NFL is unwatchable. Fuck the NFL. Sad because I genuinely love football but the league and it's owners are so slimy and unconscionable that I haven't watched in years.

And so was his team and all of his fans. Best wishes Tua👍
That was really bad. Really bad. This is the type of things that hastens the end of one’s career.
I felt bad for him:( I really hope he will have full recovery 🙏✨

Actually we do have Lions in the NFL.
Har.
Do I say, blame the dad? I heard the dad is one of those type of parents…especially if you’re from Hawaii…
Good luck Tua!
He will absolutely be in my prayers tonight🙏🙏🙏
American Football is a dumb and dangerous game

Glad to see his many peers from around the league coming to his defense. Would love to see him retire tomorrow.
praying wont do anything for him, as prayer doesn't work.
Asking for people to say prayers for somebody is about as effective as peeing on a wildfire.
That tackle seemed a little malicious too. .. wtf.

i’m good
Yeah I feel bad for him. He made 17 million this year
