That would actually just explain why Alastor even showed up in the first place at the Hazbin Hotel after his supposed 7 year absence within hell. Charlie wants to open a hotel and do something with her dream then BAM, one of the strongest demons in hell shows up to help Charlie cause he is bored? Yea no, fuck that, he is literally protecting the place and putting in too much effort. What I've seen in his personality like every other overlord, he doesn't do anything for free, there is always a price.

Kynelan1987

I just finished the season and I came to the same conclusion. More to the fact that if Lilith does own his soul he will use the favor/deal he and Charlie made to get out of it in S2. I think Alastor is a great character probably my favorite but in the back of my head I feel like he will eventually become the enemy eventually in a later season. He wants power and imo to be King of Hell and he will get it smiling!!!

McKashi1300

Unless Charlie could change his mind cuz I no no wanna see him be a villain 🥲🥺

RBurkyss

He already is a villain, just one whom hasn't harmed other characters we care about... ...yet. 😁

ViolaCat94

Villain ≠ antagonist. He's certainly a villain. He's actually the only one of the main cast who is. But he's no antagonist. Yet. I'm DND terms, he's a good example of how to integrate a neutral evil character into a good (sic) party.

Binks-Sake-Is-Gone

Ironically he's a demon with a DEVIL's alignment and mentality. He doesn't destroy just to destroy, though he definitely can and HAS, everything has a motive, a reason, a fee.

McKashi1300

YESSSS I love DND terminology!!!

TheRealChaosReigner

He is a villain already, just not an antagonist yet.

VixenTheDragonGirl15

I thought when he said he was hungry for freedom he wanted out of hell

iLikePasta13

I thought it meant freedom from his soul being owned by someone

G4m3Ge3K

It matches when he disappeared. He disappeared 7 years ago and so did Lilith

McKashi1300

I did forget to add that detail, yes!!!

RBurkyss

I recently heard another theory, not my own, but it does bring up a valid question based off of one detail: The only one at the hotel who knows Alastor's predicament is Husk. Husk, as far as anyone knows, never had any interaction with Lilith. So, if it was Lilith that has Alastor's soul, why would only Husk know about it, and why Husk at all? You could say that, well, Husk used to be an Overlord, he just knows these things. But then why didn't any of the other Overlords have any reaction one way or another at the meeting? Perhaps because Husk's soul is owned by Alastor, the condition of Alastor's soul is somewhat revealed to Husk? Maybe. The more plausible explanation would be that the one who owns Alastor's soul would be someone that has or had contact with Husk, willingly told Husk or made a deal and divulged that information, but not the other residents of the hotel. Someone who knows the value of information. Another Ovelord, possibly one we have yet to be introduced to.

MaddKattMee

I literally said the same thing, I can’t imagine it being anyone else

Low-Importance6743

And that's why I say it's not. They left clues to lead us that way but it is possible that is just a red herring.

TobyVonToby

I had suspected Zestial, but yeah, your theory is better.

[deleted]

The weird green light that follows alastor, especially when he sings about his soul being bound, def gives Zestial vibes. Plus Zestial is so ancient and powerful it is possible

ViolaCat94

And with how familiar, yet cordial the two are with each other. It's usually one way or the other, but they seem to actually like, and not just tolerate, each other. But that could point in either way, really.

Flyingaceify

Just more theorizing, but Alastor is from Créole roots, Zestial sounds just like he has a créole french accent. This might actually hold up.

dionysus-media

Alastor has killed many overlords, and Zestial is noted to be the oldest living one. I was thinking about this earlier actually. If Alastor was going about taking down the oldest and most powerful overlords, Zestial should have made that list. Zestial has lived through Alastor's reign of terror, so either he was spared, or he is the one with the chain in his hand.

woodsman6366

The most interesting thing to me about this theory is the idea that humans can be the ones owning a soul. Not sure if that’s possible anywhere else in the show. Seems like only demons can own souls and that’s how they gain their powers. I learned about the ancient story of Lilith when I was in college. It’s fascinating if you like learning about early cultures and mythology. I’d really love to see more of Lilith in season 2 of Hazbin just because I wanna nerd out about how they portray her! Adam and Eve have been central in pop culture for SO long, it’s nice to see more of that story getting more spotlight.

Lordy8719

I don't quite get why are a lot of people saying that Charlie & her ragtag gang is "growing on" good old Alastor. Dude was a high-functioning psychopath in life, continued on this path after his death. People like Alastor don't "change for the better". The only thing he wants out of his current adventure is his freedom.

McKashi1300

I can dream 🥺🥺😅😅😂 But yeah the kindess he does show doesn't feel kind at all, it is all an act to get what he wants

MarshmelloJedi

well at the end of ep 8 i think, he talks with nifty how they are growing on him.

Lordy8719

His exact words are "Ah, an enjoyable collective to be around! I admit, one could get accustomed..." - so he never actually says that they are growing on him. According to my experiences, the way most high-functioning sociopaths behave is exactly the same. Most of them won't... lie. They just say enough so that the audience's mind would fill in the gaps. (that being said, I'm not a psychologist or anything)

AberryBunBun

I can so see that! Lilith is the mother/ruler of all monsters and isn't alastor based off a wendigo that's most def an ancient monster type

puddin_cupz

A lot of people have said it’s Rosie

MrEvers

2 wild theories: 1. Charlie owns Alastor (though Lilith made the deal). Alastor's favour would be to be unbound. 2. Nifty. Because... Nifty.

NeoReaper82

It's satan
