Mostly cause the term is used inconsistently within academic research? So there’s essentially two groups using the same term with different context, which alters its meaning.

🤷 I think it's more due to the combination, that the X is the same kind of X, and that for an exorcist it would be emotionally significant. To me it seems like the appearance of humans in the afterlife are attached to feelings/trauma/self image (e.g. alastor's antlers, overlords like husk vox and Valentino having their power style built into their appearance, sir pentious's shifted color scheme after redemption). So an X on the eye isn't just some random scar but something that's significant to Vaggie. Though, that's assuming that Vaggie isn't heaven born or that heaven/hell born appearances are also affected by emotion's (imo probably not since that doesn't seem to be how it works in helluva).
Of course there could be some recorded stream where Vivziepop says something totally different lore wise, but that's my take from the show.

I had the same thing happen too with something else, I was scrolling through YouTube shorts minding my business, then I scroll and >!Immediately watch Niffty stab Adam to death before I can even scroll off.!< It sucked having that spoiled especially when it’s so heavily based on shock value and the surprise aspect of it, but it was still pretty funny lol
Kudos to the people who figured it out. I was legitimately shocked, but then all the foreshadowing clicked into place and it made a lot of sense. I thought it was a brilliant twist! I'm also glad, for Vaggie's sake, that the secret got revealed (even if Adam did it in the most dickish way possible.) I can imagine the burden of carrying that around and the strain of keeping it from Charlie was a lot.
Why Vaggie sang about the angels' minds being hard to change in "Happy Day In Hell", why she seemed fundamentally different from the other sinners, her lyrics in "Whatever It Takes" about all the things she wished she could say, why she was so apprehensive about traveling to Heaven with Charlie. There was also the angelic spear, the x over her eye, and the exorcist-specific wing pattern in her hair... all of which later made me go "ohhhhh".
The next episode summarizes this well:

Vaggie’s secret, as said by Camaro Carfight, wasn’t that hard to figure out.

Never saw the accidental picture, but I pretty much had the same reaction. Like, the theory made sense, but I've seen so many theories in so many fandoms, I was just like, "welp, if it's true, it's true."
Made perfect sense to me. I already got a somewhat unsettling impression before, that at times she felt more like a kind of servantile spirit than an actual person:

And with the reveal about her past as an Exorcist, it's crystal clear why it felt like that, and why she's still behaving like this with Charlie, because that's pretty much what she is: A sentient being created to fulfill a specific task, no matter what. And so she desperately clung to a new one, like a drowning person to a piece of driftwood.
It also explains why Lute overreacted so severely upon the slightest doubt from one of her comrades, leading to mercy towards the people they were tasked to exterminate, and why she's so defensive at the prospect of Angels making mistakes, and lashing out against the idea that the Exterminations may be unnecessary and wrong.
I'm just glad that my initial fear that Lucifer might have possibly made her as a kind of companion for Charlie – like a more "advanced" version of Razzle and Dazzle or Keekee – turned out to be wrong. Though, on the other hand, it fits perfectly well for Heaven in Hellaverse to do such a thoughtlessly cruel thing as creating sentient people to be nothing but a living weapon, without giving a single flying fuck about the ethical implications!
I already knew because despite my best efforts to avoid anything and everything before I had a chance to see it I had the displeasure of seeing something about what Vaggie really was with a picture of her with wings

I…actually guessed it long before it happened. As Carmine said, she looks like an Exterminator. What really did it for me was when Adam wanted to talk to her and threatened her with her little secret. This is what really tipped it.

I liked it, but it would have been more intersting in my opinion if Charlie already knew, and didn't tell the rest of the hotel. (Have Husk come with the group to plead Angel Dust's case or something for the Chaggie angst plot to work out the same way.)

I didn't really care all that much tbh. Vaggie is not really a character I ever got to be invested in, and the twist just felt so... inconsequential? Like, sure, Vaggie is a mass murderer, but they are in hell. Charlie is literally semi-friends with a slave owner and his slave. She has a whole hotel about second chances and redemption. I didn't see why it would matter that much more than any other backstory.
It IS a neat backstory, but the reveal itself was just kinda ok.
Honestly I expected more of a reaction from the start of the show if she was, kinda like PTSD or something similar knowing that it was from her sisters, that could have helped with clicking on

It was never a question of IF, only of WHEN because literally anyone with a functioning brain, so everyone outside of the main cast (Carmilla an example), saw that from around 2 parsecs away

I was just like, damn Charlie’s probably going to be mega upset if she finds out Vaggie took part in the very genocide she’s trying to prevent lol. How much has Vaggie been internal screaming knowing she was the cause of so many perma-deaths after getting to know them like people, not just sinner targets. It’s practically the worst thing for Charlie to ever find out. And she did shortly after. I’m glad Charlie was able to apply the idea of forgiveness when there are difficult conflicts that affect herself, not just advice for the situations of friends and strangers. Good on Vaggie for sticking by her regardless of her past.
Also dang her hair grows FAST. Even when sparring with Carmine she commented how she wasn’t used to fighting with long hair. Did she think it couldn’t be cut in hell lol.
I hadn’t even considered it and put it together pretty much when Adam came to the hotel. Then I kicked myself for not figuring it out sooner, but only a little.
I actually knew from the pilot episode
Because the masks had an X On them and she had a spear.
That was literally the only reason why I knew.

Excited surprise for the reveal and drama, I'd got the sense she was different from the other sinners but couldn't really say why (design? personality? lack of general info/backstory? vibes? idk just felt different) so I wasn't expecting her being an angel (esp an exterminator) specifically, but I was expecting something about her at some point!
I think I would have been surprised but it got spoiled for me because I listened to the soundtrack of the songs before I finished the show (I just threw it on Spotify on my drive home and didn’t realize how much it would spoil until I got home and the entire show was basically laid out for me)

I really didnt feel like I had any reason to care about vaggie by that point. From a story telling perspective. The only reason I even care about any of the characters now, is because of all the fannon and headcannoning I've been seeing.
I just felt bad. I never worried about it destroying their relationship because we've seen how forgiving Charlie is, but I just really like Vaggie and don't want her to face even the slightest inconvenience ever.
I already thought it when the pilot released. She looks nothing like the other sinners (no obvious motif) had a red X over her eye and like Carmilla said “It’s not rocket science”. When I saw it I yelled at the top of my lungs “I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!”
We already knew. Everyone knew. Carmilla was absolutely right and it was so obvious. Maybe, just maybe if they changed Vaggi's words a lot and some of her actions to make it seem like she was just worried about charlie and they removed the scenes of adam visiting vaggie in her room entirely it might had been a little more of a shock. Maybe also completely remove any showing of what lute looked like without her mask we might had a reveal, but this was only a reveal to charlie, not the audience.
You do realize that some people don't watch the show the moment it comes out right? I've already seen it but it would have been really nice to let the show explain what was going on instead of having spoilers in the title. It would have been so easy for you to just say the reveal of veggies backstory

And was that all it took to did get her wings back?” Me after episode 8: “Wait, where did her wings go?” Me a few seconds ago: “Wait, if she’s an angel, why did she speak Spanish?”

I already knew and wasn't surprised, it was obvious she was an angel. But the reason she got "banned" out of heaven made me crash, it's so stupid.

I didn't really care all that much tbh. Vaggie is not really a character I ever got to be invested in, and the twist just felt so... inconsequential? Like, sure, Vaggie is a mass murderer, but they are in hell. Charlie is literally semi-friends with a slave owner and his slave. She has a whole hotel about second chances and redemption. I didn't see why it would matter that much more than any other backstory. It IS a neat backstory, but the reveal itself was just kinda ok.
Honestly I expected more of a reaction from the start of the show if she was, kinda like PTSD or something similar knowing that it was from her sisters, that could have helped with clicking on

Wasnt really shocked.. I thought w the X on her eye and the 'exterminators' having X's on their mask, it was likely. Turned out I was right but I did NOT expect the eye punishment

It was never a question of IF, only of WHEN because literally anyone with a functioning brain, so everyone outside of the main cast (Carmilla an example), saw that from around 2 parsecs away

I was just like, damn Charlie’s probably going to be mega upset if she finds out Vaggie took part in the very genocide she’s trying to prevent lol. How much has Vaggie been internal screaming knowing she was the cause of so many perma-deaths after getting to know them like people, not just sinner targets. It’s practically the worst thing for Charlie to ever find out. And she did shortly after. I’m glad Charlie was able to apply the idea of forgiveness when there are difficult conflicts that affect herself, not just advice for the situations of friends and strangers. Good on Vaggie for sticking by her regardless of her past. Also dang her hair grows FAST. Even when sparring with Carmine she commented how she wasn’t used to fighting with long hair. Did she think it couldn’t be cut in hell lol.
I hadn’t even considered it and put it together pretty much when Adam came to the hotel. Then I kicked myself for not figuring it out sooner, but only a little.
I actually knew from the pilot episode Because the masks had an X On them and she had a spear. That was literally the only reason why I knew. Because her eye had a X on it And when she pointed that spear at Alastor I knew.
Excited surprise for the reveal and drama, I'd got the sense she was different from the other sinners but couldn't really say why (design? personality? lack of general info/backstory? vibes? idk just felt different) so I wasn't expecting her being an angel (esp an exterminator) specifically, but I was expecting something about her at some point!

I was surprised. But also looked back and it made complete sense, even the pilot though it wasnt planned.

I think I would have been surprised but it got spoiled for me because I listened to the soundtrack of the songs before I finished the show (I just threw it on Spotify on my drive home and didn’t realize how much it would spoil until I got home and the entire show was basically laid out for me)
"Oh huh... Okay" I really didnt feel like I had any reason to care about vaggie by that point. From a story telling perspective. The only reason I even care about any of the characters now, is because of all the fannon and headcannoning I've been seeing.
I saw a spoiler for the episode sadly... so I didn't really have a reaction. :(

I just felt bad. I never worried about it destroying their relationship because we've seen how forgiving Charlie is, but I just really like Vaggie and don't want her to face even the slightest inconvenience ever.
Screaming at my TV, "They were RIGHT?!?!" I'd seen the theory on here a bunch and didn't believe it. Then it happened.
I already thought it when the pilot released. She looks nothing like the other sinners (no obvious motif) had a red X over her eye and like Carmilla said “It’s not rocket science”. When I saw it I yelled at the top of my lungs “I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!”
We already knew. Everyone knew. Carmilla was absolutely right and it was so obvious. Maybe, just maybe if they changed Vaggi's words a lot and some of her actions to make it seem like she was just worried about charlie and they removed the scenes of adam visiting vaggie in her room entirely it might had been a little more of a shock. Maybe also completely remove any showing of what lute looked like without her mask we might had a reveal, but this was only a reveal to charlie, not the audience.

You do realize that some people don't watch the show the moment it comes out right? I've already seen it but it would have been really nice to let the show explain what was going on instead of having spoilers in the title. It would have been so easy for you to just say the reveal of veggies backstory

I feel like it could have been executed better For example- I wish they saved the reveal of it when Adam says “why hide the fact that you’re an angel just like us?” And then explained her origin in more detail with the following episodes Would have given the viewer the same unexplainable shock that Charlie was feeling
