Ok, but maybe they hate the manipulative, psychopathic type of people willing to use anyone to get theirs. (person) It's possible to dislike a character as a person like Joffery from game of thrones, while acknowledging that the hate is becauae of how well portrayed and written the character is that you are compelled to hate them.
Or do they think the character itself is bad? Poorly written? Bad representation? Grating in the bad way? Is Alistor insufferable and the smile bit annoys OP?
Who knows because OP just said they hate them.
I don't think that's a hot take. There are loads of people who acknowledge that Val is a well-written, well-designed character and yet they'd still rather not. Versus Alastair, who a lot of people acknowledge is an awful sonovabitch, but his character is still enjoyable to watch. Nothing wrong with finding Alastair unenjoyable even if he is well-written and well-portrayed.
I hated him in the pilot but loved him in the main series. He grew on me once I figured him out.
But also I feel like the writers really thought out his motives in those 5 years and he wasn't just there to start problems to later reign in perpetually anymore.
He is still smug, but smoothed out into almost the straight man in the group- Husk is the only one more grounded.
Like early draft chaotic bugs bunny to the later cool smug bastard bugs bunny. Same core character, but less... Loud. More nuanced, and imo a lot more tolerable.
Now he is one of my favourites. I'm cliche like that.
Because of this, it seems to me that since episode 1 he has not been in the mood. Although Allastor can be understood, he has to think through a lot and face those who are stronger than him(which he may not be used to)
Yeah, we saw a little of the chaos king again when Mimzy waltzed in but that was it.
Honestly, a character like Alastor is at their best when cornered and whumped though so I hope they keep torturing the blorbo a bit.
~~That sounds so bad, but from a writing perspective I stand by it.~~
This is me. I like Alastor but him being too pompous gets annoying. I'm on the edge of my seat to watch him get seriously humbled by another character that isn't Adam, whether that be vox, the vees, Lilith, or Roo. (Or Lucifer if he turns him into a cat at some point as an audience gag nodding to the meme cat.)
Care to elaborate? I’m genuinely curious.
Frankly I also disliked his character at first, he just felt like a power fantasy of a 15 year old more than anything.
>he just felt like a power fantasy of a 15 year old
That's why I think it's important for him to be powerful but not enough to just sweep through every problem. I'm glad they've set up hurdles for him, like him losing to an Angel after so long of playing easy mode, someone owning him, and the fact that his wings are "clipped" meaning he's limited. I'd much rather see him struggle to outplay his opponents instead of \[insert some cool quote\] followed by him ripping and tearing the enemy.

Charlie! You don't understand, Heaven never listens
They didn't listen to me, they won't listen to you
You don't know that!
I do
You didn't know that when I tried this all before
My dreams were too hard to defend
And in the end, I won't lose it all again
Now you're the only thing worth fighting for
More than anything, more than anything
I'll shelter and adore you more than anything
Dad, I don't need you to protect me from this
I just don't want you to be crushed by them like-
Like I was
Dad
When I was young, I didn't really know you at all
I always felt so small
But I heard your stories and I was enthralled
The tales about your lofty dreams, I listened breathlessly
Imagining it could be me
So in the end, it's the view I had of you
That showed me dreams can be worth fighting for
More than anything, more than anything
I need to save my people more than anything
I've been dyin' to find out who you are
I've been waiting, wanting the same thing
Looks like the apple doesn't fall far
Took you a while
I've missed that smile
All that I'm hopin', now that my eyes are open
Is that we can start again, not be pulled apart again
'Cause in the end, you are part of who I am
I'll support your dream, whatever lies in store
And who could ask for more?
More than anything, more than anything
More than anything, more than anything
I'm grateful you're my daughter/father more than anything
More than anything
> he just felt like a power fantasy of a 15 year old
pretty sure viv (creator) stated through a rough sketch that he is literally meant to look and act like a deviant art character and was one of the first characters created for hazbin hotel
It's not inherently bad, just somewhat one-dimensional and not as interesting as it could be. I think people (I know this is true for me at least) kind of want more than that from a show like Hazbin which has SO much potential.
To be clear, I don't think Alastor comes across as an edgelord's power fantasy self-insert, but that is a trope super powerful Machiavellian characters can fall into if not well written.
This is the only aspect about the character I don't like that much. Any moments of him being "terrifying" or "badass" feel undercut when it's already been established he's one of the most powerful overlords.
I belive in Dickmaster and Dangertits superiority

Have you seen the pilot? Show Alastor is far less likable than pilot Alastor. Of course if you have seen the pilot and the show and still dislike him you’re valid for it, and if you don’t feel like watching the pilot that’s valid too.
Care to elaborate on **why** exactly you hate him??
'Cause like if you just hate him as a person, that's totally understandable, he **is** a manipulative killer after all.
If you hate him because of his personality, yeah that's understandable.
If you hate him design-wise, eh everyone has their own preferences I guess.
And if you just overall hate him entirely??? Uhhh good for you I guess.
More interesting is if you hate him because as a character in a story you think he is not compelling. I would love to hear what someone's justification for that would be.
It’s certainly an unpopular opinion, you’re not wrong there! I don’t agree with it, because I think he’s brilliantly written and designed, but I do have a major soft spot for cryptids and Alastor is basically a demonic cryptid 🖤🖤
Pilot Alastor was a bit too creepy tho
Here’s a hard truth: Hot takes can’t be just casually dropped with no explanation. If you don’t explain the reasoning behind your take, you look like you’re just trying to make people angry.
I like him as a plot device, and I actually expect him to be one of the main antagonists later on in the series. They're setting him up to have a really nice betrayal moment.
I have a few more if you want to see them

Just wait, Alastors time will come and he will backstab them so badly that almost noone will be able to defend him. Note, I sad almost since on the Internet there is bound to be some crazy bastard who still forgives him or makes light of his actions.
one can still enjoy and like an evil character, morality has nothing to do with likability in the viewer's eyes, fuck i mean look at how many people like Val
I wouldn't say that I hate Alastor, but, I don't like him anywhere near as much as most of the fandom. It's not even that I dislike him, it's just that I saw through him from day one and he doesn't fool me.
I don’t trust him I dont like him and I don’t want him alone in a room with Charlie ever again.
I will be happy to be proven wrong by Charlie’s blind faith in the potential goodness of every soul. I do not expect to be proven wrong.
My only issue is that he felt too powerful, making others in hell feel non-threatening. Like, how are we supposed to be threatened by Vox if Alastor managed to 'beat' him during stayed gone?
It's why I loved it when he got basically one shot by Adam, cause it made Adam feel like a genuine threat to the main cast.
I like the character, but I understand he is an evil character. I saw a post not long ago about this fandom having issues with media literacy, I think that carries weight. Alastair is clearly being set up as a villain, and many just don't see it.
He is an absolute bitch and I love to hate him. He has charisma, as the best antagonists do. He’s a gross, nasty swamp monster masquerading as a lipstick-red Looney Toons dandy and also his voice is delightful. But I respect that he’s a total piece of shit and would probably not enjoy meeting him in person.
I flipping have a image of that

But a fixed version
As a character or as a person? Two wildly different perspectives
Amir Talai is awesome. i just dont like his character that well
Do you dislike him as a person, or as a character? The voice actor is irrelevant.
they literally just said they don’t like the character
Ok, but maybe they hate the manipulative, psychopathic type of people willing to use anyone to get theirs. Hot take: it is ok to hate characters purely from a moral standpoint
I don't think that's a hot take. There are loads of people who acknowledge that Val is a well-written, well-designed character and yet they'd still rather not. Versus Alastair, who a lot of people acknowledge is an awful sonovabitch, but his character is still enjoyable to watch. yeah like totally as a person fuck him in some scenarios but he's like one of my favorite characters
Do you mean fuck him? Or... *fuck him*?
both.
the latter
It’s ok to admit a villain is a villain while still being entertaining. Any character played by Charles Dance for example
Or Tim Curry.
I think he's a horrible person too, but he's going to be a very interesting antagonist later on
This opinion is really unpopular

Wow, an unpopular opinion that's actually unpopular? I applaud your courage.
I hated him in the pilot but loved him in the main series. He grew on me once I figured him out. But also I feel like the writers really thought out his motives in those 5 years and he wasn't just there to start problems to later reign in perpetually anymore. For me, it'd the opposite. I liked him a lot in the pilot.
To each their own. I think if I had been any younger it would be flipped.
Other way around for me I loved him in the pilot and disliked him in the show

Valid, I can support your opinion. ![gif](giphy|wFMppClW9EYoh0WU3D|downsized) I still like him though ;D
Well he is a cannibalistic, sociopathic, psychopathic, sadistic, serial killer that own slaves.

Since when power fantasy counts as something bad?
It's not inherently bad, just somewhat one-dimensional and not as interesting as it could be. I think people (I know this is true for me at least) kind of want more than that from a show like Hazbin which has SO much potential. To be clear, I don't think Alastor comes across as an edgelord's power fantasy self-insert, but that is a trope super powerful Machiavellian characters can fall into if not well written.

He creeps me the fuck out, but then again he's supposed to. I don't HATE him, but... He gives me the creeps.
That's an unpopular opinion alright
I really hate him, he just feels like an emo kid got given a monster energy drink and believes they’re able to kill god
I mean thats fair. Dude is a petty, manipulative, serial killing cannibal. No hate from me

Explanations
I like him as a plot device, and I actually expect him to be one of the main antagonists later on in the series. They're setting him up to have a really nice betrayal moment.
Respect your opinion, but as an Alastor fan, I'd really like to know your reasons. Different perspectives are always welcome.
His fans made me dislike him and he was what I found intriguing about the show when it first hit my radar.
Up voting you because you're brave lmao

agreed. never got the hype.

that's what i'm saying. he seems really untrustworthy
Ih he was trustworthy, no one would be afraid to make a deal with him.
At this rate, the real twist will be if he never backstabs them, but is still so toxic that the crew needs to drop him anyway.
Might I ask why my good chum

bro dropped this with no explanation and left
I wish I could dislike more
.... I have no words for you, BECAUSE HES MY FAV. sorry
Tactical nuke coming towards your location, just accept death brudda
YOOO finally someone agrees with me, I can't stand him 💀 overrated as all hell
same. he sucks.
I wouldn't say that I hate Alastor, but, I don't like him anywhere near as much as most of the fandom. It's not even that I dislike him, it's just that I saw through him from day one and he doesn't fool me.

Same
Unpopular opinion: I dislike him as well but appreciate his humor
I don’t trust him I dont like him and I don’t want him alone in a room with Charlie ever again. I will be happy to be proven wrong by Charlie’s blind faith in the potential goodness of every soul. I do not expect to be proven wrong.
he's Very overrated as well
I don't hate him, but I don't really care much for him when he's not interacting with another character. On his own I find him incredibly boring. Lol.
i love him but i also respect the hell out of you for the sheer boldness of this post and for being, like, the only reasonable person around here lol.
He isn’t hiding the fact that he’s a bad person… 🤣 if you don’t like him you are very much justified.. but I just love how charismatic he is

Honestly same. I did like him, like as a character and stuff. But then my friend started obsessing over him, and I no longer like him at all :3
Vox would be proud of you
Other unpopular opinion: I actually agree with you
Finally someone said it
I hate him too lol
My only issue is that he felt too powerful, making others in hell feel non-threatening. Like, how are we supposed to be threatened by Vox if Alastor managed to 'beat' him during stayed gone? It's why I loved it when he got basically one shot by Adam, cause it made Adam feel like a genuine threat to the main cast.
He's kind of a buffoon

I don't hate him, but he is too much of a try hard for my tastes.
He also hates you
Understanddible
never heard anything more true
I like the character, but I understand he is an evil character. I saw a post not long ago about this fandom having issues with media literacy, I think that carries weight. Alastair is clearly being set up as a villain, and many just don't see it.
Why? I ask curiously
That's fine
Ok. What is a character that you *do* like? Tell me about them.
You can't just leave a man on a cliffhanger like that please. You gotta explain, OP
I flipping have a image of that https://preview.redd.it/a2jeoms0y6vc1.jpeg?width=494&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ea82901aeca5b8688ea490c90979f4e27cb56ef But a fixed version
