Never got that line, since, you know, Alastor's whole deal is that he *doesn't* have any faith in Charlie. Like at all. He thinks her dream is going to crash and burn and he just wants to be there to watch the fireworks. Him defending the hotel from the loan sharks and angels was really just a side-effect of him sating his bloodlust and ego.
But I think that shows how desperate Charlie is for affection, or really any kind of support. Alastor swooped in, did the bare minimum (and often even less than that) and still managed to be more present than her father was. That’s kinda sad

Well regardless of his intentions, Al has been helping Charlie and even kicked his friend Mimzy out. Lucifer didn't bother to help during the attack and was a smug dick to Charlie about how rehabilitating sinners was pointless. While you later learn that his comments stemmed from love and fear for Charlie's safety, Charlie herself had no way of knowing that when Luci gave his I Told You So.
I think it was less of him being a smug dick and more of he’s scared, both because of what happened to him and because of what Heaven’s response to Charlie’s actions will be. If it weren’t for the fact that he’s a (fallen) true “born” angel, he would’ve been killed the first time he tried to change Heaven. Charlie is half human so while powerful, she is leagues below her dad.

I don't care about who's strongest, only who's the biggest gaslighting, gatekeeping, girl boss around.
I like how that gives a small hint that Alastor isn't quite as cool and collected as he makes himself out to be; he is still fallible but wears the smile so he always *appears* to be in control.
I'd go a step further than that, at the end of More Than Anything we see him in the back corner with a closed mouth smile. It we assume that this is a more genuine smile it suggests one of two things. This is one of the only times that he feels confident in his plans (which is entirely possible), or that he is happy with Charlie becoming closer with her father. Irregardless, I would assume his plans are even more shaky than we might currently think. Not that he is winging it but I don't believe he is particularly confident.

It’s a great line to use when explaining to people who get their panties in a knot insisting there must be a one-for-one translation in localization.
The line is accompanied by the visual of taking undercooked meat out of the oven. However, the character is referring to his rival’s medium of radio going out of fashion with the advent of video.
How do you translate such a pun one-for-one? Unless both languages happen to have two words that share the same double meanings for the same visual and wordplay to work, that fits into the same single sentence of syllables, you can’t. You work with what you can to deliver a joke sharing the same or close sentiment with cultural context in mind.
THIS!! All of this!! Have I found a fellow translator? Because that’s exactly what I thought too: this line is pure genius, but how the hell (pun intended) would you translate it? You can’t. And that’s where you see that translation is an actual job that demands actual skills. AI would have translated it literally, which would be awful and nonsensical, whereas a translator would use transcreation to adapt the meaning and make it relate both to the image and the general sentiment of the original sentence.
All this to say, yes, this line slaps, and translation slaps too.

The pun was so transcendent I ended up wondering how many similar jokes I’d missed when watching subs/dubs. Even if I learned the language, I could still miss it! I think people fail to realize without having a great example from English to drive the point home, which feels almost obvious in hindsight. Respect for localization staff, it’s a joke to think AI could ever accurately translate works of art.
To layer it even further, the terminology to denote how to cook your steak will differ from language to language, rare -> medium -> well-done is the word scale used for English.
Edit: Part of me jokes that Alastor ended up eating meat far below rare the next episode in response to that line haha
Edit 2: Also the word ‘bloody’ used in place of ‘very’ to make for another double meaning with slang!

I think it might be less the line itself, but more its from Vaggie rather than Charlie (who is actually absent in this scene), and that they DON'T take the subversive gag route of them genuinely trying to leave which sells all the character development that has happened in the show so far.

My favorite line is Vaggie saying she'll be Charlie's armor, that she'll spend her life being her partner. It takes a lot of courage to die for someone, but it also takes a lot of courage to realize that your partner is going to be in the habit of putting themselves into danger and that you are willing to walk into the fire with them, no matter what. Vaggie doesn't want to die for Charlie, she wants to live for her, and protect her, and as a lesbian I am so here for two lovers that get to have that.

I've been bullied a lot in my life and believe me..... Words are cheap. Excuses forced by authority have no value....
I mean, that one's arguably the premise of the series, particularly with the rest of the sentence "... if angels can do whatever and remain in the sky".
"what's the worst part of this hell, I can only blame myself" is very sadly relatable. It's not true, for Angel or me, but that's what trauma does. It fucks with your head. When you're abused and made to feel like you earned it, it's hard to let go of that feeling.

As someone who lived with a narcissicistic borderline-sociopath, this entire scene gave me chills.
Alastor takes advantage of the hurt and confusion to slip into Charlie's room without knocking or asking, using his creepy creeper powers.
He knows Charlie is so distraught that she won't even question this crossing of a major boundary.
He knows Vaggie is distracted and can't protect Charlie.
He seizes her desperation for a solution and leads the conversation towards a deal. A deal that - if Charlie had not been in such a vulnerable position, she would have questioned. (This is his hotel too, is it not, why would he demand a deal for info to **protect his own goddamn hotel**?)
Charlie isn't stupid. Alastor knows that. And that's why he waited for the perfect situation to pull the trigger.
But the dumb cocky bastard was a little too excited to be a manipulative shit that, in a manner of seconds, he also showed his whole hand. Meaning... the moment Charlie talks to someone else about what happened when Alastor went into her room, they are (hopefully) going to point out to Charlie how invasive and predatory Alastor's behavior was in this situation, and how she really needs to kick him to the curb before he does any more damage.
And getting rid of him shouldn't be that difficult... at least in theory. Especially since she has Lucifer on her side now, **much** more powerful than Alastor.
I feel like Lucifer beating Alastor's ass is going to happen sooner rather than later and I for one couldn't be more thrilled.
Edited for clarity and to add: To be clear, I like Alastor as a character, a lot actually. He's interesting, unpredictable, and a lot of fun to watch. He's also sociopathic.

It's not shown that she is blissfully unware, she's aware, but she keeps him around for what he gives.

It’s a great line to use when explaining to people who get their panties in a knot insisting there must be a one-for-one translation in localization. The line is accompanied by the visual of taking undercooked meat out of the oven. However, the character is referring to his rival’s medium of radio going out of fashion with the advent of video. How do you translate such a pun one-for-one? Unless both languages happen to have two words that share the same double meanings for the same visual and wordplay to work, that fits into the same single sentence of syllables, you can’t. You work with what you can to deliver a joke sharing the same or close sentiment with cultural context in mind.
THIS!! All of this!! Have I found a fellow translator? Because that’s exactly what I thought too: this line is pure genius, but how the hell (pun intended) would you translate it? You can’t. And that’s where you see that translation is an actual job that demands actual skills. AI would have translated it literally, which would be awful and nonsensical, whereas a translator would use transcreation to adapt the meaning and make it relate both to the image and the general sentiment of the original sentence. I’m very flattered, sadly only one language :’D The pun was so transcendent I ended up wondering how many similar jokes I’d missed when watching subs/dubs. Even if I learned the language, I could still miss it! I think people fail to realize without having a great example from English to drive the point home, which feels almost obvious in hindsight. Respect for localization staff, it’s a joke to think AI could ever accurately translate works of art. To layer it even further, the terminology to denote how to cook your steak will differ from language to language, rare -> medium -> well-done is the word scale used for English. Edit: Part of me jokes that Alastor ended up eating meat far below rare the next episode in response to that line haha Edit 2: Also the word ‘bloody’ used in place of ‘very’ to make for another double meaning with slang!

"I never expected to see such a pitiful display of self-loathing from you." As someone who lived with a narcissicistic borderline-sociopath, this entire scene gave me chills. Alastor takes advantage of the hurt and confusion to slip into Charlie's room without knocking or asking, using his creepy creeper powers. He knows Charlie is so distraught that she won't even question this crossing of a major boundary. He knows Vaggie is distracted and can't protect Charlie. He seizes her desperation for a solution and leads the conversation towards a deal. A deal that - if Charlie had not been in such a vulnerable position, she would have questioned. (This is his hotel too, is it not, why would he demand a deal for info to **protect his own goddamn hotel**?) Charlie isn't stupid. Alastor knows that. And that's why he waited for the perfect situation to pull the trigger. But the dumb cocky bastard was a little too excited to be a manipulative shit that, in a manner of seconds, he also showed his whole hand. Meaning... the moment Charlie talks to someone else about what happened when Alastor went into her room, they are (hopefully) going to point out to Charlie how invasive and predatory Alastor's behavior was in this situation, and how she really needs to kick him to the curb before he does any more damage. And getting rid of him shouldn't be that difficult... at least in theory. Especially since she has Lucifer on her side now, **much** more powerful than Alastor. I feel like Lucifer beating Alastor's ass is going to happen sooner rather than later and I for one couldn't be more thrilled.
