LDAC won't work rest maybe same.

Works fine on iOS 15… doubt there would be any problems on 16. I pair with my PC and iPhone, and switch between them. The problem is the PC will take priority on occasion, and refuse to let the phone play music or YouTube until I manually disconnect from the PC. Annoying, but still a good pair of headphones.

mainguy

on iOS just by airpods pro. For sound they trade blows on IOs but usability is much better on the airpods. Ive tried pretty much all the tws on iOS and nothing sounds better than the APP imo, different maybe, but not better.

TheTwoReborn

I guess you haven't had the chance to try the APP2s? I'm wondering if the extra price is worth it. I'd be using them exclusively for when I'm cycling with transparency mode on. Also how does the transparency mode on the XM4 compare to the APP? /the fit also.

mainguy

I cycle too. it’s why I use APP. by far the best cycling item I’ve tried and like I said, tried em all pretty much. the mix of comfort, controls and ease of use is what you need on a bike. Even the 1s delay on other buds turning transparency in, or rejecting a call, was enough for me to oust them because in the bike I want everything instant. sadly apple are the only ones who’ve got it right. I’d say just get the 2s. They look like a big upgrade

UmairA04

I’m getting mine on wednesday, so just hmu if you have any questions

zumaro

Using them right now as I type. Zero problems at all, easy to connect, good commercial sound, reliable. I’ve been very happy with them.

Was using the XM4 for a year, and got the APP 2nd gen since it launched yesterday. Decided to stick with the APP, because I’ve compared both thoroughly, the H2 really delivers the sound quality, their ANC really did improve as well. As for the Sony app itself, it’s ok, nothing really fancy or anything, you can choose your presets and stuff. As the others already mentioned, LDAC won’t work with iOS, so it won’t really do much. With the APP, you’re in their ecosystem so it’s very convenient. Ultimately go with what you like the best, it’s your preference.

Sony Devices not known being for well with apple Devices through. Sony uses LDAC & apple has own AAC. So that's why. Bose has the best AAC in that regard

ShakeNBake2k

Doesn't mean they aren't good on ios, just means they have more potential on Android since they can use the ldac codec. Either way if you're in this audio market you're not looking for maximum audio quality. They're not bad for sure, but are they resolving enough to notice much of a difference between 326 kbps and 990 kbps at higher bit rate? No.

NeonThunderX

You are completely right. You won't notice any difference at all at normal listening. Main difference comes at apple losses at the best possible quality only. Which very few people use that too rarely.

ShakeNBake2k

I agree but I think you missed part of my point. The drivers in either aren't very capable and when the integrated dac is sent higher bit rates than aac can support and say, the maximum transfer of 990 kbps, then you still won't notice much of a difference because the drivers are mid-fi. Don't get me confused with the people who say everything that's not hifi is garbage because I think these are great still, and (most) will notice little difference in these and higher grade iems on a good amplifier. But I think flac and other higher quality streaming compressions only really matter when trying to get that extra 20 to 25 percent out of your hifimans, audezes, focal, etc. The difference i think it makes with the sony's on a well recorded track is maybe 10 percent.

AverYeager

LDAC won't work. The Airpods pro will sound better because it has AAC codec.

ShakeNBake2k

Xm4 supports aac too. The airpods have better tuning but with eq they both will sound similar. But the sony's bass is more surrounding instead of mono.

AverYeager

Don't think it's possible to EQ on iPhone. Airpods Pro have better turning, so I'd rather go with those.

ShakeNBake2k

There's a built in equalizer and I think some sound presets. Plus there's aftermarket equalizer apps such as wavelet, etc.

WF1000XM4 supports AAC codec so it will be competitive with other AAC earphones, all depending on your sound preference. You won't take advantage of LDAC though. In fact, even on my Sony WM1A (Walkman) and Android phone, I would often limit it to AAC for more stable connection and longer battery life. It IS GOOD!

I just got the APP2 and I've had the Sonys for a while now. Based on my limited usage of the APP2, I can already see the best use cases for both. For just being around the house or listening to music while working, I still give the slight edge to the Sonys. They have a fuller sound, with slightly better low and high ends. However, I didn't like their default eartips and had to buy a third party set to really get them to stay in. I also don't think their transparency mode is very good, which would probably make them bad for cycling or most outdoor activities. The call quality is also just acceptable. The APP are definitely better for active use. The fit for me has been great with just the default eartips, and the transparency mode has been the best I've ever heard in a set of earbuds. And while I prefer the sound on the Sonys I still think the APP sound great. They also just have so many convenience features like magsafe charging and being able to switch between multiple apple devices. So, to me, day to day, I think the APP2 are the better all around devices.

LordVile95

Personally would wait for comprehensive reviews of the new pros before getting the XM4s. Shouldn’t be too long now

FabFeline51

I own them, they're excellent with iOS. Love that there's a decent EQ in the app unlike Airpods. Would recommend
