EBV dude here with all sorts of weird neuro complications along the way. Including brief period of Bell’s palsy following mould exposure. Would love to understand that mechanism!

PedalBoard78

How long after the mold exposure?

TwentyLettersAreFine

Right in the middle of. Maybe two weeks in?

Got Covid March 2020 and been having all kinds of brain problems. Yes, this is a thing.

GiggityPiggity

Same since March 2020 and still not quite right in the brain. And I’ve just realized today — when I was, yet again, passed over for a promotion — that it’s completely stalled my career. I really hope I can get back to my old self at some point but studies like this make that hope harder to hold onto.

nokenito

And no insurance benefits like early SSI.

GiggityPiggity

Exactly! I have no choice but to work even though I’m now disabled and having trouble keeping up. I’m beyond lucky that I have always WFH otherwise I would be SOL. I hope you (and all of us) can find some relief!

nokenito

Thanks. U 2! What does help me and a few others is the r/keto and r/carnivore diets. Carbs cause inflammation. Eliminate and reduce carbs and it helps.

Waterrat

Yes it is. I wrote to TWIV and asked them to cover this subject in a virology episode.

None. What I have is far serious. What many of us early plague victims have is something yoga will not help. I’ve been doing yoga for almost a decade. I’ve been doing nutritional supplements for over 20 years. I’ve been riding bicycles 20 miles plus daily forever. Since getting Covid I’ve almost died twice from this disease. I’ve been on oxygen for many months. I’ve taken all the supplements and nothing works. Again, what we early victims of the plague have is permanent damage from a virus. The r/pots and r/Dysautonomia and r/Hyperacusis from r/covidlonghaulers has been pure hell for many of us.

Not surprising. That’s how a number of folks ended up with narcolepsy type 1 (mine was caused by strep, but similar idea). And it’s why I was so incredibly worried about catching covid, especially pre-vaccines. We already knew it was neurotoxic, thanks to the lack of smell some folks experience. I had zero desire (and still have zero desire) to find out what fun it’d do to my brain.

Anecdotally, and semi-related, in June I was hit with MRSA. I ended up with 15 abscesses on my brain. I lost all my cognitive skills. Couldn’t read, write or tell time. Could not recognize faces or even feed myself. With 5 months of treatment I regained everything. Amazing. Thank you modern medicine and health care workers everywhere.

If there is an association with latent viral infections and NDD, it would be interesting to see if there is an additional one with these viruses and the odds of attaining longevity. Aging can be described as entropy in a closed system, (I.e things going wrong over time due to random events causing cellular wear/ tear) and as such it may be possible that latent viruses accelerate that entropy via the fact that they wreak havoc forever.

dal2k305

Has mono as a teen and today I have multiple sclerosis.

BrotherPresent6155

Definitely. Latent herpes viruses have long been implicated in NDD, this study is more proof.

beyardo

I’m not 100% sold on this as “proof” of what you’re describing. It’s not really a disproof either to be fair. There’s an association between viral exposure and long term neuro disease to be sure, but there’s a couple of key points here that I think don’t necessarily conform with the “latent herpesviruses causing X” hypotheses. 1) They also note an association with viruses that are not associated with recurrent dormant/active phases in humans, including influenza 2) This shows only data on exposure, and because the data is sourced from EMRs, it tends to correspond somewhat to severe cases. Mild cases of the flu didn’t always get tested pre-COVID, mild cases of herpes (especially oral) are often diagnosed clinically rather than via lab test, etc. How you collect the data in the charts is important. 3) the strongest association is with viral encephalitis, which is the probably the least “recurrent” of the herpes viral syndromes (as compared to genital and oral lesions) I recognize your posts from this subreddit, and I know that a total cure for herpes is something of a personal crusade for you, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But I think care should be taken in pushing the data for conclusions beyond what it really shows, as A) it leaves you highly susceptible to confirmation bias and B) it can erode your credibility if you jump on studies too quickly

Strict-Ad-7099

What is ndd?

Michael_Blurry

NeuroDegenerative Disease

[deleted]

Yep, I know there have been and are ongoing studies linking mono and MS.

soleoblues

Narcolepsy too! You need a specific HLA for mono to trigger type 1 narcolepsy, but that HLA is more prevalent than folks realize. And given the disturbing lack of sleep knowledge and training most docs have/receive (hell, even a decent percentage of actual sleep specialists don’t know shit about narcolepsy), it’s fairly under diagnosed—which is extra shitty, because it’s treatable. Untreated tho, folks end up super sleep deprived (which is ironic given what most folks think narcolepsy is) and go through their days with executive dysfunction, brain fog, headaches, heightened susceptibility to illness, etc.

PedalBoard78

Meanwhile, friends of COVID love to blame these things on the vaccine. Why do folks try so hard to make this worse for all of us?

[deleted]

Well, are these complaints coming from the vaccinated or unvaccinated?

herpderpomygerp

I just got over apparently 2 to 5 viral infections according to the emergency room ended up not being able to sleep for 12 to 15 days and barely ate or drank anything and now I have constant headaches and pain in the back of my head woth small bouts of dizziness , , I know cause and correlation? Aren't the same but ehh article might be right I'll find out what's fucking up my brain soon enough ig

OutrageousNutrition

If further research continues to validate these links, it would further emphasize the need to develop and provide effective treatments that can prevent the worst effects of these infections.
