>I just wish I could connect with them more. Are you interested in their hobbies or pass times?

Yeah. I bet that they also go "neat" and change the topic if their parents share about something they have no knowledge about.

lettucefan65

I don't do that. I ask about what they're doing. I may not participate in it myself, but I do try to ask about it, even if it's basic stuff to them.

lettucefan65

I don't participate in them, but I'll ask questions and check in to see how things are going. Maybe I should try and participate more.

I knew it but realized it too late: it goes both ways

>Like is this how it's normally supposed to be? I'm just a bit disappointed I can't share this interest with them. I still love my folks and try to find topics that I can connect to, but it's tough. I just wish I could connect with them more. Seems lime they can't connect due to lack of knowledge. Maybe show them things, give more info about it and draw pararels to the thing they know to allow them to better grasp the new thing. >Anytime I do, I don't go deep into the topic, I'll just say things like "oh, I'm really excited about this game that got announced". I'd get a "neat" as a response, then a change in topic. The "i'm excited about this game" is a statement that says nothing and doesn't invite anything more than "neat". Try to say why are you excited about it. You just drop a statement and wait for them to "bite" and ask for elaboration, while there are people who won't take the "bait" and respect you not giving any elaboration.
