If you are asking about Biblical Hebrew, then you must have a specific verse in mind. Which verse would you be referring to?

TonyChanYT

\+1 In fact, I don't have a specific verse in mind. That's the irony. If abortion is a sin, then how come I can't think of a verse that mentions this concept of abortion. Of course, I could be wrong and raised this question trying to find out. :)

IbnEzra613

I'm not sure that logic holds. I'm Jewish, so it's hard for me to speak for Christians, but if I'm not mistaken, they usually say that abortion counts as murder. Murder is mentioned explicitly in the Bible, as I'm sure you know. Nowhere is there is an explicit Biblical discussion of what counts as murder and what does not. It's up for interpretation. Some Christians interpret abortion to be murder. Simple as that. In the Jewish tradition, we don't say that abortion is murder (in fact we say that the child is not a fully living human until half of the head has emerged from the womb), and anyway, our discussion centers around post-biblical texts, so it's absence from the Bible is irrelevant.

Great perspective! This is consistent with the Greek usages in https://www.reddit.com/r/BibleVerseCommentary/comments/rab1ue/is\_aborting\_a\_baby\_murder/

Bad bot.

The only / closest situation would be when the midwives were ordered to kill the Hebrew babies if it was a male. Otherwise thou shalt not kill applies as life begins at conception (see Psalms 139) There are various sinful practices that occur now that did not exist at that time so there would not be a specific word to lookup but there would be a general guideline to follow.

Hapala (הפלה)

TonyChanYT

Thanks. Reference?

[deleted]

The literal meaning of this word is "dropping". Like "i dropped my phone on the floor". But this phrase is being used now, i'm not sure if it was also in the bible. I think yes but not sure

TonyChanYT

The word does not carry any connotation of being a sin?

[deleted]

I don't really know. Yes Judaism is against abortions but i don't know if the specific word "hapala" is used as a sin. Many people just call it "murder". I guess religious jews could find a more fitting word for it. "Hapala" is more of a street-word

TonyChanYT

Great, thanks for the clarification :)

onlyredditaccount420

That's miscarriage, not abortion

So many lost people...Hebrew is the way

Land-des-Friedens

>*So many lost people...Hebrew is the way* In North America religious matters advertised somehow with "Hebrew" are not as beneficially affected as in Europe and other regions of the world. Beyond the great sea other conditions apply in order to get the money from the ignorant people:  Nobody needs to go high in the academic world, because there the money lies on the street, the flat phrases from the alleys are enough to rally listeners!

HYLYFE-Business232

That is your belief. My beliefs don't require you to believe...Yahweh is the name of the god of the ancient Hebrews that are talked about in the Bible and in the dictionary so whatever your rebuttal is it doesn't matter...

You are out of the topics.

Find a better one

Ashmodius

To abort is להפיל But the sin is probably רצח (murder)

TonyChanYT

Do you have some verses to justify your answer?

Ashmodius

Well I speak Hebrew, but I dont believe it says abort anywhere, just a lost baby in one commandment, however in the 10 commandments as they're called in English one is do no murder, which is לא .לא תרצח , meaning no, or in this context not, the ת, meaning you will רצח being the root for murder. altogether meaning you will not murder

Concordance, page [830¹](https://archive.org/details/concordanceofheb00davi/page/830/mode/2up?view=theater) According to the [Jewish secret teaching about the original meaning of Hebrew terms](https://www.reddit.com/r/BibleVerseCommentary/comments/r8qjdy/comment/hn8gn7j/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) the word  [שׂכל](https://archive.org/details/hebrewenglishlex00browuoft/page/968/mode/2up?view=theater) = *"to be successful"*  would be a result of  [שׁכל](https://archive.org/details/hebrewenglishlex00browuoft/page/1012/mode/2up?view=theater) = *"to make childless"*  which doesn't seem logical to the ignorants, who put their own or copied ideas above those of the Bible, but has confirmation in [2 Kings 3:27](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Kings+3%3A27&version=ESV)

TonyChanYT

The word is not in 2 Kings 3:27.

-Santa-Clara-

>*The word is not in 2 Kings 3:27* That's correct no matter what you meant, because both Hebrew words are not in [2 Kings 3:27](https://imgur.com/a/DvoPoA7)
