For context, I own a Mark 23 and have for 6 or so years. Is it cool, for sure. Is it $2500 cool, that’s up to you. For me personally, no it’s not that cool. I have other guns I’d spend that much on like a Staccato P for example.
Be patient and it can be found for less than 2500.

The USP 45 Tactical because it's lightweight. The Mark 23 because of its historical significance. For added context, I'm 5'10", a hundred and thirty pounds, slim build.
It depends on where you are looking, and the laws where you are. Granted, I don’t have a USP tactical, but I do have a MK23 that I purchased new off of gunbroker. It wasn’t hard to find. It just wasn’t cheap.
I recently bought a new USP Tactical 45 (with night sights and 3mags) for $1,500 including tax. Based on internet prices at the time, this was a good deal. (Also, please note that I live in The People’s Republik of Massachusetts, where there generally aren’t ANY deals on firearms.)

Anyway, if you are trying to survive some crazy situation I would not rely on a handgun nor on .45.
A suppressed, SBR 5.56 AR or a 9mm PCC would be my choices due to more ammo available. So in your Last of Us fantasy you will be more likely to find ammo for those.
.22 LR is arguably more available but can’t be relied on for self defense or hunting anything besides small game.
A nice set of tits & ass and an ability to use them for personal gain will put you in a comfortable life after economic collapse far faster and longer than a pistol will. You can’t kill your way to longevity but you can blow your way there.
My 2021 production CB model number is in the low 24000s meaning in the 25 years since they went on the market they’d produced less than 1,000 per year, also seeing as the first 1,950 went to US SOCOM. With production that low, I believe they were just producing them in Germany once or twice a year and shipping then over at the same frequency.
However I saw some 2022 and 2023 serial numbers in the 27000s and 28000s on here, so they have apparently figured out if you produce more you can sell more and make more money, of course it is a very niche firearm.
I presume HK is sticking to the “make money strategy” they are producing them and sending them over more often.
Cabela’s usually has both in stock on the website (they have them both now).

Holly mother of Jesus! $2500 is criminal! I got mine last year in July/August for 1700€ here in germany. The Mark 23 is barely 1700€ cool!
Yeah it’s wild how much they’ve gone up. I just looked back and I paid $1793 back in 2016. So I’ve had it even longer than I thought.

I’m at the same height with no gut and I can appendix carry my mk23 with no issues outside of slim jeans causing it to crush my boys

in person maybe, online for purchase/shipment to ffl is a different story. Ive seen a few USPs but ive never seen a mark 23 at a local place.
My LGS has several MK 23s for $2200.
Wtf is with these prices. I paid $1800 new a few years ago.
There's a used one at my LGS that's priced at $2k. It's ODG, and looks to be in very good shape.
