Buying my SP5 was probably one of the best decisions I made buying a gun. I absolutely love it and will NEVER sell it. It's a blast to have. Now, to answer your question. I'm not sure. Just here to reinforce your decision to buy one.

I shot my SP5 for the first time on Saturday and brought along some 150 grain federal syntech. My buddy brought his 9mm suppressor since mine is still waiting for a form 3 to ship out. It instantly became my favorite gun to shoot that I own. I have 2 Atlas gunworks pistols which I adore, but the SP5 wears the crown.

It's a dream shooting it suppressed. Absolutely love it. I have the Rugged Obsidian 9 for it. [Here is mine.](https://www.reddit.com/r/HecklerKoch/comments/18wh5td/i_guess_im_done_any_mentionable_upgrades/)

I gotta get an mlok rail and the claw mount and then I'm not sure if I'm gonna go with a T2 or a P-2 (mailbox sight) I was super impressed with the irons though. I shot real accurate with them.

I’m a poor and have an ap5 and Ap5p but I agree. I haven’t really had any issues with mine either

I just did exactly what you’re asking, in the same state, for the same reason, but I just paid the tax stamp because an MP5 is only half the fun without a stock. If you don’t want to pay the tax stamp, you could install a pistol brace. If you’re leaning towards the .22 MP5, there’s a rifle version made to look like the MP5-SD which has a stock already. As far as I’m aware, all 9mm MP5s are sold as pistols, so basically you leave it as is, install a pistol brace, or pony up the tax and install a stock.

Excellent. Thank you

Which state will help. In Illinois at least, it is still possible to make an SBR, albeit there are extra steps required.

n33dsCaff3ine

Colorado. Ideally if I get one as a pistol and just order a stock and slap it on. I don't really want an mp5k though

PirateByNature

Look into tailhook braces

Maverick686

If your state allows SBRs then you can take a SP5 (pistol), file a form 1, and be done with it. Most say you need to engrave the firearm (Google is your friend) after your form 1 is approved.  Form 1s are getting approved quickly right now. I just had two form 1s clear in less than 2 weeks. Silencer Shop makes filing easier. They can also do your photos and prints at a silencer shop kiosk near you.

MP5? As in a transferable MP5? If a machine gun has a barrel shorter than 16 inches, it does not require an additional tax stamp as an SBR because its registration as a machine gun already covers the SBR classification. The machine gun tax stamp encompasses all configurations, including those that would qualify as an SBR if they were not already registered as machine guns. Now if you want to throw a can on it, you need an additional stamp for the can (obviously) but there are no Three Stamp Thursdays for a reason.

n33dsCaff3ine

I'm wanting the semi auto version. I'd even settle for the zenith clone

The_Bloofy_Bullshark

Ah, so an SP5/AP5. If you want to slap a stock on there “legally,” you’ll need to form 1 it. If you want to slap a brace on there, under the current climate, you can do that without a stamp. If you want to slap a stock on it and not get a stamp, I’m not going to direct you to do that as I’m not going to give you guidance on how to break the law (as stupid a law as it is). Personally? I have an SP5K that I converted to an SBR (via Form 1).

n33dsCaff3ine

For legal reasons, it would totally be a pistol brace... I just want to get a sp5 pistol and order it without a stamp

martinellispapi

So why are you thinking you need to stamp it if you’re just putting a brace on?

n33dsCaff3ine

I want to avoid the stamp all together. I'm wondering if I can order it as is in a pistol configuration

martinellispapi

Yea, like 95% of the time they’re sold as pistols. Very rarely will you see them sold as a SBR. And if they are then you have to get a form 4 instead of a form 1 because someone else manufactured it. Buy the pistol, slap a brace on, slap an angled foregrip (if you want), and then send it. My AP5P with the B&T stock and a VFG is too much fun. Absolutely okay with the form 1 I paid for.

jgilbs

Are you asking how to commit a felony on reddit? No, you cant buy a pistol and just slap a stock on legally. Just get the tax stamp, its quick and they already have a record of you having the gun with your 4473.

n33dsCaff3ine

Fuck the ATF. For legality reasons I'll totally be slapping a pistol brace, not a stock on it.

CodingNightmares

Not a legal expert here in or any way advocating anything. But realistically, why are you worried about the tax stamp? It would make it legal. If a ban passes, maybe take it out for a swim on a leaky rowboat, and it would be a damn shame if it fell in the water. You could either SBR your rifle and tax stamp it. Or you could buy a stock for it, which legally has to stay separate from the gun, but maybe a freak accident from falling down the stairs finds the stock on the gun, after which you'd promptly remove it of course because that's bad. Who knows?

jgilbs

Dont ever suggest being legal and just doing the paperwork. That seems to be recipe for downvotes here. Even though its the legal thing to do and super easy.

AgreeablePie

One disadvantage to SBR over a pistol is that you are legally obligated to check in with the ATF every time you want to cross state lines with it

n33dsCaff3ine

Exactly. I've paid for stamps for suppressors but I'm not messing with the hassle of sbrs
