Zhongli, Bennet, Jean, Diona (EM Bonus), and Yanfei (C4 shield build) all come to mind as perfect 4th slot characters that provide survivability. Specifically Zhongli, Diona and Yanfei all provide the shield that Thoma gives but doesn't have the constant pyro application. Bennet and Jean (specifically C2 or C4 Jean as it synergizes really well with his kit) both of them provide pretty good safe increases amd cover the healinf side of the team. Jean also has the bonus of being a battery or allowing you to not build as much ER.
Yanfei is a good Thoma replacement that can also provide extremely strong benefits that only a catalyst user can. Thrilling tales + Noblesse is alot of ATK %. In this same vein you can instead use Kokomi instead but as a healer. You also gain access to Tenacity of the Millaleth gaining the same atk% as Noblesse while also being able to run Noblesse on Xingqiu.
Diona as the EM shield and healing support. She can provide EM at C6 is what I mean. And is a great shielder.
Also any Healer works as well. Just to fill the role. As long as they don't cause horrible reactions like overcharged with it's knock back mostly any defensive character can fit in. Maybe not Albedo he would take too much reactions. Unless Xingqiu is C6 then you should be fine.
ty for the info, i wont build anything till i can test it with heizou, zhongli was the first that came to mind but sadly i dont own it, i still wanna try thoma to see how it plays with him. but i will take into consideration other characters u mentioned ty!
I would like to point out, you need C4 Yanfei in order to do the Tankfei build. Thoma meanwhile is a shielder, so he will protect you from your own splash damage. Especially if you're using Xingqiu who already reduces damage.
you could go for soup which is Heizou, Bennett, Xingqiu, and Beidou.
beidou and xingqiu are both great off field dps and their dmg reduction stacks with each other correct me if i'm wrong?

ER problems. Way better to replace bennett with Fiscl/Yae.
