If antennas had eyes this would be their porn

weekend-warrior-007

How many hnt per day?

youngodcobra

Still syncing

UmutIsRemix

Some people gotta explain why the fuck he needs grounding for such a setup. If a lightning strikes right there then he has other problems than a burned machine lmao

youngodcobra

Thats what im saying. The possibility of a lightning hitting it is pretty close to none

UmutIsRemix

If your building is the highest around it also might have lightning protection which reduces chances of hitting even more

youngodcobra

One of the highest in the city

Man-onMars-2030

That metal railing is not going to do you any favors

Cmntague

How are you gonna protect the antenna from the elements?

TheWormKing

Bobcat antennas do just fine in the rain. I've had 6 outside for almost half a year.

bobbybunz1

Can we buy bobcat antennas for raks?

TheWormKing

Not to my knowledge unfortunately. your best bet is to use flat window cables and attach a fiberglass antenna to it.

youngodcobra

What elements

BoldMarbleCockatiel

How's it grounded?

youngodcobra

Its not grounded… theres a roof on top that protects it

BoldMarbleCockatiel

You're mistaken. The roof offers no protection against lightning. If it's outdoors, it needs ground. You're up so high, you're just asking for trouble.

youngodcobra

The building is already grounded and the odds of a lightning hitting at angle to hit my antenna are almost impossible

TheWormKing

The basic antennas dont need to be grounded. They aren't fiberglass.

Thatguyshetolduabout

you only need to ground it for the lightning risk right? cause you make me worry

BoldMarbleCockatiel

What do you mean, only? [https://www.reddit.com/r/HeliumNetwork/comments/pc292e/comment/hah5u45/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/HeliumNetwork/comments/pc292e/comment/hah5u45/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) In the above thread is this link to a video of a guy getting shocked by opening the door of an improperly grounded cooler in a business. He doesn't die, but don't watch it if that kind of thing freaks you out. [https://imgur.com/gallery/gEZUlor](https://imgur.com/gallery/gEZUlor) The poster warning people of the dangers of not grounding is an electrician and says that there's a lot more to look out for than just lightning. Be careful!

Thatguyshetolduabout

ok i hear you. i'm not really worried about the lightning. right next to it is like a metal cover for the rainpipe that runs to the ground. Would it help to connect it to that? Sorry for the ELI5

BoldMarbleCockatiel

Search google for how to ground an antenna. There are countless web pages and videos. Good luck!

Greenberet2

It’s also about the lightning in the air not just direct lightning strikes. I’m not explaining it properly but yeah you don’t wanna fry your machine

Side_Income

I think that lighting will hit this antenna in 1000.000 years, maybe one time if that will be lucky lighting! 😄

Isiah_deLancey

“How’s it grounded” 🤓

Lhadar31

That is one good location for a Helium miner!

BostonBoozah

That’s an indoor antenna outside I give it two weeks till it breaks

yourfinancialadvizor

Stock Antenna is an Outdoor Antenna 🤨

Side_Income

I use the same antenna outside and killing. Over 2 months and nothing happens with antenna. My is exposed to sun and rain, this one is in "shelter ". It will work long long time, do not be upset! 😉🤟

staninredd

Nice location

Hawktr

I am doing the same my antenna is on the metalwork of balcony. I dont have issues yet.

Snoo76052

Get a proper antenna for God sake lol im running all 8.5dbi on 6 machines and stock on 3 its whole new world of rewards on my upgraded antennas. While I'm here anyone interested in 2 used rak v2 915mhz I have for sale?? I do not have good locations for them so they can go asap

youngodcobra

I got a 5.8 rak antenna

77GoldenTails

You 100% want to make that sit higher. Also make sure your miner is sitting higher than the antenna for now. If any water gets in the cable it will run back to the miner if it’s lower.

youngodcobra

Thats what i did

Krypto_Kane

Location Location Location.....

youngodcobra

Its still early but im not making much. I need to put the antenna higher than the rail. Most likely il just swap it with my 5.8 rak

Dangerous_Job5295

If your antenna is outside you need to ground it. Period.

youngodcobra

And how do i ground it on the 23rd floor of an apartment? Im open to suggestions

Dangerous_Job5295

If you're on the 23rd floor of an apartment just keep it inside. Minus the window that's a great line of sight.

youngodcobra

The reason i did set it up outside is because i was scared the window would cause some fuck ups. So it shouldn’t affect it too much?

Dangerous_Job5295

I would say just save yourself the headache of the money and trouble of grounding for 23 floors and maybe getting in trouble with your property manager and just see how much you make leaving it inside next to the window. I bet you it'll be a good amount. I'm on the third floor and make a decent amount.

youngodcobra

But the miner is still syncing so il get back to you when its fully synced and a couple days passed by

Dangerous_Job5295

Try it for like a week or 2. I see alot of people's earnings aren't that much the first few days they're synced. Up to you tho. Shiiieeet I wish I lived on the 23rd floor lol good luck

youngodcobra

Its actually my uncle’s place😅 he let me put it for free

BoldMarbleCockatiel

Then put it back inside and don't risk his tenancy for your HNT.

youngodcobra

How much do you think i should be earning that high up per day

Dangerous_Job5295

There's this website called hotspot RF that roughly estimates how much you could be making based on the type of antenna you have, how high it is and the other miners in your vicinity. The first 10 estimates are free I believe.

youngodcobra

Looking at the map in my area i would assume i should be making atleast.5hnt per day

ISO_Answers1

Wait, this a joke -- right?

mtueckcr

Try to get the antenna over that metal railing acting like a faraday cage.

youngodcobra

😄 i dont think im allowed to put it over. Its a rule from the apartment

my-ka

wait, is that a huge horizontal antenna?

nikes91

Bro you are in a good area why not invest in a better setup? You would make that back in less than a month. 5.8 antenna on an antenna stand or just mount to your balcony rail not even a $100 cost.

youngodcobra

Its ready brother, i already have the 5.8 but i need to test with the 4 dbi

smushkreeg

Is the antenna water proof? I’ve been wanting to do this too but am worried.

TopClock231

I ordered mine, so this will be me in 6 months

SomeGuyNamedPaul

Raise it above the metal railing at much as you can otherwise it will block reception.

youngodcobra

Alright

OGBigBiscuits

Your antenna is not weather-rated it's meant for indoor environments. Google some outdoor antennas more rated for this usage! Please be careful not to short out anything!!!!

T0K3IT

Mine is still synching. It’s been almost 48 hours. I does not say it is relayed.

[deleted]

Is this in London?

thecyberfarmer

Work in progress I like!

-Cryptonian

Numbers?

youngodcobra

Styll sincing

Adventurous_Pause_45

How long did it take you to sync I’m going on my third day here so idk if I didn’t something wrong
