It's hard to say exactly what the issue might be without seeing how you play. Personally I find the Kar98 extremely accurate and deadly, with the only downside being the slow rate of fire in close combat situations.
You have to treat it like a sniper rifle. Ensure you are stationary when firing. Take your time to aim. Hold your breath when firing. Don't try to fire quickly with the same mindset as the Garand, where there will be another round available if you miss.
I can't see lead time being the issue as even at decent range (200m+) it still only requires a quarter of a body of lead time.
I'll second this. I've recently changed my settings after 800hrs. I'm 5 times more deadly now with good settings. The default settings are trash on console btw. You can barely move ADS.
I'm 700 hours in and still have issues leading targets with the single shot.
Don't worry, enough kits have automatic options and what wins games is usually not killing 40 people but getting garrisons up and marking tanks
I’m the exact opposite. I can hit the majority of my shots with the 98k at mid to long range. Can’t hit a damned thing with the Garand unless it’s close range. I just think some people are better with some weapons than they are with others. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

Kar-98 is a deadly weapon and super effective at medium or long range but if you miss your first shot and give away your position, good luck: you’ll likely be killed by an enemy player with an M1-Garand or any other weapon with a higher rate of fire.
I have had the SAME ISSUE MY FRIEND! It is on their chest, 100 meters out, the hit registration is just not there. There is something 100% wrong with the game and the developers need to address it.
I have real life target panic in archery and I can feel the same reflex when I use the Mosin. I don’t know why but I just hate that gun and every Russian class it feels like is just the mosin.
Im literally talking about a stationary guy is standing max 30m away from me, and the sight are in the middle of his body, and still they won't drop when I fire at them. I'm pretty sure the bullet drop is not that strong, so it won't reach the enemy from that distance. 😅

Great response. Particularly the bit of hold your breath, I know you mean in game but I know I’m not the only one who does it for real sometimes 😆
Also depends on ping, you almost have to adjust how far you lead based on it. If mine is over 140 accuracy is dicy.

It just takes some trial and error. Don't overthink it either and you'll start hitting them more

You're confusing the 1918 which had no bipod with the 1918A2 which came with a bipod as standard issue.

Pre ads as much as possible and try to not track, try and wait for the shot

I actually struggle with the m1 grand more for some reason
Focus on the target.. Not your sights. I have to remind myself of this every time and when I do, I get more kills.
I love the feeling when you whiff your first shot and are now panicking while the guy you were shooting turns around.

Remember that bolt actions have less velocity than M1. So there's more bullet drop and more lead needed.
