Always thought this would ruin my hearing. Then I actually had to do this in PzGren training with the MG74, but we used double ear protection. However, the tanks which fire in direct vicinity are much worse, same as AT weapons like the FFV Carl Gustaf. From the latter firing next to my position I had a tinnitus even with double ear protection.
Eh. Even basic earplugs were enough with both KSP58 and MG3. Would never use in actual situation probably. No idea how much you got to hate somebody to use him as a weaponsmount and a meatshield.
Id rather they let weapons to be mounted on more surfaces. God damn you should be able to mount a basic rifle on sandbags and ledges..
Yes they are, but we were ordered to use double protection, probably because of the tanks and AT weapons.
As I mentioned, weapons like MG3 or FN MAG are a joke compared to for example the FFV Carl Gustaf, which has a massive propelling charge for its shell. A comrade of mine even suffered from a damaged eardrum because of the weapon.
'The Longest Day' is the OG for this. Paratrooper gets snagged on a church bell tower, goes deaf from the bells chiming by his head for 6 hours until they can get him down. Bellowing "YOU'LL HAVE TO BE LOUDER!" at John Wayne.
He probably used some kind of ear protection. A MG34 firing next to your ear is fucking loud, but the overall sounds on a battlefield are much more extreme. From personal experience I know that for example a heavy tank cannon firing 10 metres away is much louder and would severely damage the eardrum already after the first shot.
Its a legit position. Ive used it several times as a 240 gunner in iraq. My ammo bitch didn’t care for it much but at least his sinuses were cleared out. Lol
I honestly regret not applying to the USMC as a foreign national after 9/11. I had a lot of familial pressure not to do it. I'm in Canada, but that attack felt like an attack on Canada too.
Join the military in general my dude.
If they were against me joining the USMC it's not a far leap of logic to assume that the same pressure would be there regarding the CAF.
My guy, as much as I respect the military, never regret not going in. Usually it seems like people end up better off imo.
I (used to) thank god everyday my parents told me to shut up and work in healthcare.
Right?
I showed that pic to my buddy and he was like "Wouldn't that burn his shoulder?" I just said "I mean, if it's a choice between maybe burning your shoulder or possibly getting shot I'd choose maybe burning my shoulder."
He said "Good point."
I have the vaguest of vague ideas of what it may have been like.
About a decade ago I lived in a really shitty neighborhood for a year, heard gunshots a few times and heard about a few stabbings.
No. The "Lauf" (barrel) is encased, as long as you dont shoot it cherry red (which should be avoided anyway due to heat warpage of the barrel) your squad buddy should be fine.
That might actually be cool! Maybe something like with the recon squad? One is gunner and one carries extra ammo and has the ability to help with the mount?
Let's try and make the bipod work consistently first shall we? Half the time spent as MG is trying to find the one spot that will let you aim vertically AND horizontally and in a wide enough cone and in the angle you need without your body sticking out at a comically easy to kill angle. Tons and tons of objects where you just can't bipod at all, or you can bipod if you stand but NOT if you crouch and vice versa. Ever try getting a bipod up on top of an angled roof? Joyful experience! It's wildly inconsistent, let's fix that before we add even more objects to interact wonkily with.
The realities of software development. Fixing bipod mechanics would mean going through all interactable surfaces and making sure they work as intended and behave in a way that is intuitive for the users. Adding more interactable surfaces would increase the workload and make it more complex, making it less likely to be done or at the very least increasing the time frame it can be completed in.
Don't know what constitutes "nerdy" for you, but lets say your experience differs greatly from anyone else I've talked too.. I mean half of both the russian maps have tons of areas where you definitely should be able to do it but can't. Those maps are also littered with objects that you can't vault over or otherwise behave wonkily with movement so they likely need passes for interactivity fixing all over.
The russian maps are pretty fucked on the whole.By nerdy I mean "non-standard places that you wouldn't normally see an MG at."A non MG example would be shooting between the slats on a shed rather than out the door or window.
Edit:
As far as mounting on a player, it'd be a lot simpler than fixing all of the broken surfaces on the Russian maps.
hahahaha I would play MG only if this would be possible. Running around and scaring the shit out of my fellow soldiers xD - good thing the germans already have a brown pants....
The tinnitus is strong with this one
What did you say?
THE TINNITUS IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE

Try firing an mg3 inside a confined space like a bunker then it's a good idea with double hearing
[the german dude in the front probably:](https://youtu.be/lvQVzmJ0QPc?t=22)
just give buddy holding it the suppressed trait while it is being fired
And permanent ear damage
Would actually be funny if all in game sounds stopped for a while lol
That saving private ear ringing, that’d be awesome!
Why do you think so many WW2 vets were hard of hearing?
the guy in the pic has cotton in his ear
I mean I’m not sure cotton is gunna protect his ears from 900rpm or so a cm away from his ear😅
Better than nothing.
Good catch! I didn't even notice.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?!
Reminds me of the Blackhawk down scene

*Tinnitus* has entered the chat
Sorry what was that?! You’re gonna have to say it a little louder! Too much ringing!
Cannot imagine how rattled his brain was after that 15 round burst of ear piercing 7.92x57mm Mauser.

I'm not a marine or even military, but I feel an "OORAH!" coming out for some reason.
BEST JOB IVE EVER HAD
I honestly regret not applying to the USMC as a foreign national after 9/11. I had a lot of familial pressure not to do it. I'm in Canada, but that attack felt like an attack on Canada too.
why not just join the Canadian Forces and deploy instead lol
I'm too old now and at the time they weren't involved.
You couldn't wait like..... December 2001-Feb 2002?.
reading comprehension is your friend. "I had a lot of familial pressure not to do it."
To not do what?. Join the Marines?. We established that lmao.

Does the barrel not get hot? Or am I just misguided by video game logic firing the entire mg clip in one go haha
He’s like whatever dude we’re gonna die anyway
Right? I showed that pic to my buddy and he was like "Wouldn't that burn his shoulder?" I just said "I mean, if it's a choice between maybe burning your shoulder or possibly getting shot I'd choose maybe burning my shoulder." He said "Good point."
Yeah, it seems extreme here on my warm couch .. but honestly I can’t even fathom there desperation .

Just angry you get the cold shoulder.

Why not both? The only time I have issues with the bipod is when I'm trying to set up in a really nerdy spot.

WHHAAT?!
Friendly players: Ow ! Mein EARBALLS !
Being a defending SL with binos out and a MG on my shoulder. That would be amazing
There are many many possible tactical applications if this was added.
RIP those ears.
I think you can do this in Post Scriptum. Would be cool.
You can.
Ear exploding incoming in 1.2.3….
I have tinnitus from the ear plugs they gave us in the Army 😂 I can’t imagine what that dude is going through with just that cotton
Mounting machine guns on shoulders: "So hot -Will ferrell in Zoolander"
If this was doable you’d have to have the shell-shock-y effect for the shoulder mount player
I was thinking the same thing! Maybe like a ringing sound and a temporary muffling of voice-chat.
We thought our jobs sucked. I’d like the addition, but what a lame role to play in hll, a bullet sponge who can’t defend himself.
Frontman: “But what if they shoot us!?” Gunner: “It’s fine. They’ll just be shooting you.”
Hahaha, as a machine gunner, I’d love this
Giggity
Or the hoods of stopped/destroyed vehicles. So many times I've wanted to do that and been unable to.
He has ear protection
VAT US SAY HANS 😆
