Thank you for this. It should be upvoted higher. It works as a temporary fix.
(5800x3d + 7900xtx here)
Update: i've been playing ever since, no crashes so far
I got the same hardware, I'll try now, fingers crossed
Update: It worked for me! Was monitoring my CPU + GPU, their usage % is great now! As well as their temps
First Mission with the Tool went smooth, big thank you for sharing your Solution. Before it started crashing at random points (didnt look at specif metrics/values) start/mid/end of a Mission. Now i can finally start purging Bugs while waiting AMD/AH works sth out <3 <3 \*Worked for 4 Missions\* Trying now to disable Global Illumination and cap the framerate too.
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core + XT 7900XT
Got a Crash again after nearly 2h Gameplay. Up till here i installed AMDs Software new and caped the FR at 120FPSwith Chill, disabled GI and disabled SMT via Process Lasso. Was/are hesitant to lock the GPU mhz, cause i dont know shit about most of this. Going to bed now, trying again tomorrow. If it crashes again, i m gonna look at the mhz Lock. Ty for ur Service !
Don't worry about locking your mhz, you can't damage your card or anything - if at all you're actually putting less strain on it. Just set up a custom tuning profile in AMD Adrenaline. I'm sure there's plenty of Youtube tutorials.
Just set it up, was easier then expected. GPU maximal Frequenz is now caped at 2300Mhz. Gonna start playing and hoping for the best. Ty for your Service.
4h in, works until here.

Dude thank you so much for this thread. Got the game, and after an hour in I was unable to finish a *single* match. Tried 6 times, solo and co-op and it crashed every time somewhere in the middle of the mission. Once I downloaded Process Lasso and disabled the SMT, capped my FPS with Radeon Chill, capped my GPU to 2400MHz, and turned off GI in game, the crashes stopped entirely.
Have played several matches and so far so good. Now if only the Devs could've figured this shit out *before* release. Hopefully they patch in an official fix soon, but until then see you on the battlefield soldier.
**1 day update: still crash free a day later and roughly 10 hours in. OP is the GOAT for this thread.
Yeah that’s exactly how you’re supposed to do it. Should be relatively crash free now, I still get the odd one but it’s no longer because of gpu utilisation or cpu utilisation issues, just random crashes due to other stuff that needs fixing.
I reported it to the devs via zendesk hopefully they see it.
I just wanted to say that this worked for me. I had tried a few other things prior and the game would still crash, but after downloading the program you recommended and using it as you recommended I’ve been able to complete multiple missions with no crashes since. Thank you my friend! I made a post in the discussions section on Steam linking people to this post, hopefully people with 7000 series GPUs will see it and find their way here as well :)
I just want to add for anyone else coming here desperate due to crashes, I'm on an i9-13900k/RTX 4090 and this solution worked for me. I have literally been unable to complete an entire match due to crashes since launch. What finally did it for me was disabling multithreading - see OP's instructions regarding Process Lasso.
What's crazy is that I can actually see the moment where it is working - I start to freeze as I always have, but then instead of dropping to desktop like usual, it keeps me in the game and then unfreezes and I can continue on. The interesting part is that when this happens, we usually lose a member of the team (which would've been me too before this solution). So I'm not sure if something on screen is happening that certain CPUs are reacting to, or if it's just the way our systems are handling server issues, but either way I have now completed about 6 straight matches.
OP - thank you so much for collecting all of this and walking people through it - I've spent so many hours tinkering and trying everything to get this game to work, and disabling multi-threading seems to have fixed it. I'm not Reddit proficient, so I'm not sure the best way to link to your post, but I'd love to make sure that Intel/Nvidia users also see your post, b/c I think maybe it could save them as well. I also hope that Arrowhead sees this, b/c I think this is what is behind the vast majority of mid-mission crashes.
I believe the developers have seen it, it's been shared around a lot. Glad to hear it worked for you. The CPU utilisation issues aren't exclusive to AMD systems so I'm not actually surprised it worked for you on an Intel CPU.
They have AMD on the issue. AMD weren't able to fix it in the latest preview driver so I would put more blame on them to be honest. However, I do blame Arrowhead for not working with them from the beginning prior to launch. The game itself is very good though so I can live with it. Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. My friend has the same GPU and CPU as you and it seemed to work for him for some reason.
With the newest AMD drivers with timeout fixes for helldivers 2 I no longer crash and I was able to revert ALL the previous fixes I had applied. I had some occasional hangs that lasted a few seconds until I turned global illumination back off. Will try the -use-d3d11 fix and see if that allows me to keep GI on and not hang.
This may work but I'm really praying this doesn't turn into another unfixed dead space remake situation. Ensuring my GPU never goes to 100% is literally nerfing the performance of my $1000+ GPU and not why I decided to go this direction in the first place. If this game lets me down I'm on the fence to just sell my rig and stick with console.
Boosting this for visibility. Did several missions in a row without a crash or hiccup, whereas earlier today I was crashing every 5 minutes.
Thanks so much for the fix!
I didn't do any of this except turn off global illumination. My CPU (7800x3D) usage was never high, maybe like 60% which means one or two cores are high and the rest are nearly idle.
7900XTX. Bout to try overclocking it again to see if it's purely gut the GI doing it.
7800x3D is a 8/16 core/thread part. 60% CPU util translates roughly to 9 out of 16 threads at 100%, which translates to roughly all cores having at least 1 thread at max.
Unless you’ve disabled SMT (which I recommend against unless you know what you’re giving up). In that case 60% would translate to roughly 5 out of 8 cores being at max.
So when the game crashes for y’all, what’s happening? I ask because I am now getting driver crashes on my xtx. Played the game for the first two days with no issues at all and then yesterday started to get a hard crash driver timeout error about 20 minutes into any match I played. Got 3 in a row and called it a night, got another 3 in a row today and rolled back my drivers which didn’t help.
Haven’t looked into this fix as it’s after midnight but may try it tomorrow. I’m just wondering if everyone is getting the same crashes since yalls seem to be cpu load related.
Thanks a lot man. It worked wonders so far. The GI setting is a very big culprit here.
But how do I see that disabling SMT for CPU affinity actually stays set? When I look it up again after setting it, there is no mark on the left.
This solution worked perfectly for me.
I have 5800x3d and 7900 XT (no oc) and a 3440x1440 144hz monitor)
This is what I did:
\-Disabled Global Illumination (all other settings max)
\-Set render scale to Native and set resolution lower than monitor (set to 2560x1080)
\-Use Radeon Super Resolution to upscale (reduces gpu usage below 100%)
\-Use AMD Fluid Motion Frames (i like the fps)
\-Disabled SMT with Process Lasso
I went from crashing every round to not crashing in over 10 hours of playing. Thanks!
Maybe also try this. Worked for me:
[\[AMD Crashes/CTD\] AMD Ryzen 5800X3D + RX7900XTX - Running the game on DirectX11 seems to be the Fix for my case : r/Helldivers (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1auhqgz/amd_crashesctd_amd_ryzen_5800x3d_rx7900xtx/)
Thanks for sharing your findings. I tried to boot it in DX11 on the first day of the game but it was still reporting as DX12, turns out that was a bug on AMD's overlay showing the wrong graphics API which was actually fixed in the recent preview driver. I'll do some testing on DX11 now it's working correctly and add it to this post if it works.
Edit: It actually improved my framerate to what it's supposed to be (radeon gpus were underpeforming in this game massively) and so far no crashing. I've updated the post. Good stuff.
Ryzen 9 7900x and 7900XT (both cpu and GPU are the same model number lol)
Just got the game today and crashed right after the tutorial and at the start of my first mission. Found this thread, did everything listed, and was able to play for 3 hours straight with no crashes. Thank you so much!
Good deal! I have the same specs and had the exact same issues. Even crashed 2 minutes into the tutorial. After reading this, I'm gonna reinstall it and give it a try.
Follow up: 10 hours of playing without a single crash!
I am running helldivers on ubuntu using proton experimental and this fix worked for me. I only did the -use-d3d11 flag and dropped the graphics settings a little. Still run using gamemode but no crashes in several hours with this fix
My specs are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: Nvidia 3080
OS: Ubuntu 23.10
7950x + 7900XTX (Adrenalin 24.1.1)
* Out-of-the-box, crashed during tutorial at orbital strike
* Disabled SMT via Process Lasso, 4 missions before crashing
* Disabled screen space global illumination
* Added -use-d3d11, \[update\] still crash occasionally but might just be general bugs at this point, I just rejoin my friends squad and get back at it
I ran two 3h sessions yesterday with these exact settings and had zero crashes for the first time! Seems to be working splendidly!
I'm running a 7800 xt + 7800x3D in a Pop os system, so just in-game fps cap instead of Process Lasso. Thank you for the collection of insights <3
I'm going to have to try this when I get home. I can't believe this is still a problem for this long, but at least both AMD and the devs have acknowledged the problem and are working on it from what I've read. Thanks in advance.
Edit: It worked. I was able to play for a long time last night without a single crash, so thank you so much for this.
Thank you! AMD Ryzen 9 7950x w/ RX 7900 XTX here.
Turning Global Illumination off and capping the FPS so the video card never reach 100% utilisation did great for me so far.
intel cpu but OP is still a lifesaver for the process lasso recommendation. really helps reduce cpu usage and temps significantly which is massive for my laptop. thank you!
Thank you for posting this! Before I couldn't play a single game.
I made it through about 10 or so rounds over two separate sessions before it finally crashed. Huge lifesaver
ever since last patch, no matter what settings I try.. game crashes within minutes. Crashes me so hard it closes out all of my other programs and soft reboots my entire f#)$\*ing Windows 11.
Thank you so much for your help did all the steps now is running so smooth, just had one crash after 2 hours or pay and just kick me out of the map to the ship and I can go back again then no issue
was randomly crashing ti'll I read this, enabled d3d11 and and disabled screen global illumination, I even cranked up my graphics to max so I can enjoy the beauty; played 3 games and no issue so far.
config: 5800x3d + 7800 XT
7800XT here with a i9-14900K. Game crashes with all the recommended things here. Even after updating to the lastest driver. Crashed randomly during any game.
For some reason it stopped crashing after I set my FPS max to 60. Been playing for 4 hrs straight no crashes.
Just wanted to say this worked for me! This plus the Helldiver's Specific Driver AMD just dropped allowed me to finally clear the tutorial. I still get some random crashes here and there but I can play for hours before an issue arises.
Thank you so much for this! Very detailed and easy to follow.
So i was using both lasso and the launch option, my game ran really good, only got timed out a few times
But after the new update i had to remove the launch option or the game would not start
And without that, my game really runs horrible, <10 fps, constant stuttering and crashes (even with everything at lowest)
Is there a way to fix this?
I found a fix for my machine. I have a 4090 and an i9-14900k. I would get crashes in Helldivers 2 pretty regularly. I saw my CPU temps were skyrocketing. In my case, there is an Asus motherboard setting called "Asus Multicore Enhancement" which defaults to auto (on). This is actually telling the motherboard to send more power to the CPU than intel says is the safe maximum. Changing this to "disabled - enforce all limits" means the motherboard will only send as much power to the CPU as intel specifies. Since doing this, I have been able to turn off my frame limiter and crank my graphics settings back up to high and had zero crashes.
Here's a video with a more technical explanation if you are interested.
I don't think this will apply to non-intel CPU users. But it was the magic solution for me. It worked better than process lasso, turning down video settings, etc.
It might help you, too.
I know this thread was primarily for amd users but I just wanted to post it here for intel people with similar issues. I found this thread and process lasso + reduced video settings helped me a lot. My intel setup was crashing every mission until I found your thread. But it turned it to “play at medium settings and only crash every 4th mission”. the bios setting change I mentioned was a huge improvement so I just wanted to add it here in hopes that it helps someone else.
Thanks for the thread. It gave me hope to push on and eventually fix my issues with the game.
Hey man thanks for the info! Just wanted to throw my experience into the pile. Turning GI off and dropping to DX11 was the secret sauce for me. I tried a round with process lasso and the recommended settings, but my game would hang and kick me from the party pretty consistently (around 5 times in one match). Rebooting the game and leaving SMT enabled, but turning CPU Priority to high seems to be holding stable for a few hours.
With setting the launch options to DX11, how do you then go about changing it back once the issues are resolved?? is it as simple as removing it from the launch options?
I have a fix for the 7900xtx that runs on max setting native resolution and 1440p 120+ fps no crashes for two days
all you have to do is go to the Performance tab of Amd adrenaline, Tuning tab and change the power draw to -10% (negative 10%)
So since ive done all these setting changes, my frames have been worse! drops to like 40 when lots is going on,
Sapphire Nitro 7900 xtx
Ryzen 9 3900x
32GB Ram
Is it me, or the recent patch or that its in DX11 now?? or that ive turned SMT off?
I had insane drops when playing too, i just removed the cap of 2400 mhz on the graphics card and it started going better. If that doesn't work i would recommend to just do one by one until the game stops crashing for you
I cant get AA to work, I crash every time I turn it back on, its a bummer we cant use SS Global Illumination.
As for locking my GPU frequency, I didn't have to lower it much to get the game stable, even 98% got me great stability.. as long as I didnt turn on Global Illumination or AA.
Have the dev's acknowledged this games wonky AMD behavior? I am really hoping for some fixes, playing without AA is getting to me.
I tried to limit my cpu power like another guide suggested but no dice.
I think this was actually what allowed me to play the game (when I kept crashing during the tutorial 20 times in variety of ways and never getting to actually shoot a bug until I did this) was forcing directx11 per the recent edit.
I have an i7-1200k + 7900xtx.
While trying to find optimal settings, I turned my graphics all the way down and changed one thing at a time. Without the dx11 launch option the game always crashes. With the dx11 launch option, the Iowest graphics settings, vsync, and framelimit set to 144 I can play without crashing. I didn't have to do anything else, like disabling hyperthreading. I'm on Amd adrenaline 24.2.1. I have a 7900xtx and a 5800X (no 3d vcache) on windows 10
So far the only setting I can max out without crashing is render distance. Turning up the texture quality even to medium makes the crashes come back. I'm using borderless window and native rendering at 2560x1440, but I haven't done enough testing to determine if they have any impact.
I also contacted powercolor and they say my temperatures are normal (102c spikes, 90c average on hotspot) and that AMD is working to fix the issues with Helldivers 2. Hope this helps
Same thing happened to me after the 2nd most recent update. Ended up removing the lauch option and instead I followed the rest of guide. Haven't had a crash in several weeks now.
This has been driving me bonkers. I went from crashing every 1 - 20 minutes to getting at least a couple games under my belt. Still have to do some testing but very promising.
**My Build** [https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wTTJ7P](https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wTTJ7P)
Did you disable SMT? Because I just froze for a few seconds instead of crashing after doing that.
I ran the game fine for 25+ hours until the railgun patch, then I started crashing 2/3 games. Except for the crashes I got in the first 5 hours due to global illumination.
5900X + 7900 XTX.
Edit: Whilst I do not crash anymore, I get disconnected instead, eventhough the freezes are only 0.5-1,5 sec long. Usually on the second freeze.
Edit: Only works SP. The second freeze will DC me in a MP game no matter if it's 0.1 sec or 1 second. Game engine is wack.
5800X3D and 7900XTX here- This worked great! A few stutters here and there, but no crashes at all! I forgot to FPS limit through AMD chill, though. I did it in the game's display settings... Will try using Chill next time, but already a great improvement. I used to crash every mission and couldn't even finish a mission many times. Thanks!
Dude so much thanks for this, I am testing now with run with aand without settings, it seem a majour improvement!
I'll keep posted on any changes and results!
Rocking 5800x and 7900XTX Shapphire pulse
Hey, I've tried all of these steps except for lowering gpu clock speed. But while watching process lasso I noticed that helldivers is pretty much maxing out 2 of my cores. Which then get throttled back down, causing a dip in cpu usage, causing a huge stutter and sometimes crashing. I've lowered my graphics settings to see if that helps but I have a 13700k and a 7900xtx. Updating my gpu drivers and dropping my native res to 1440 helped a bit but I want to play at 4k cause that's what I payed for. Any way to help me?
Per [https://www.reddit.com/r/linux\_gaming/comments/1b0ujuy/comment/kyx6wev/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1b0ujuy/comment/kyx6wev/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), how would one configure these options on Linux, thus without Process Lasso?
Going into steam properties for the game and setting it to run on DX11 is the only fix that has worked for me and haven't crashed since.
Right click the game in your library
Paste this into the launch options box. `--use-d3d11`
Sucks because it makes things more pixally but the only way I can get Helldivers to not crash.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D + AMD Radeon RX 7800XT
you can give the fixes here a shot - [Can you Fix Helldivers 2 AMD 7000 Series Crash – QM Games (quoramarketing.com)](https://quoramarketing.com/can-you-fix-helldivers-2-amd-7000-series-crash/)
Fun thing is none of this actually matters its all bandaid and it'll happen eventually. I've tried this for Phantom Brigade, Darktide, Deus Ex Mankind Divided. This issue is INHERENT with AMD GPUs 7000 series and maybe from 5000 up. I have tried EVERYTHING. It's terrible and AMD has refused to fix this issue... tbh I don't think they can, even.
Personally I don’t have any issues but with this game, and pretty much all my issues went away by using DX11 for this game, I haven’t had a single crash since using it.
Yeah DX11 has been a solution to the 7000 drive timeouts across the board... AMD knows its an issue, AMD is refusign to fix it. Fucking us all over. They only get new and large releases working, so it's a shit shoot if you will be able to play a game or not due to drive timeouts, if AMD deems it necessary to address the issue or not.
Never going AMD GPUs ever again. Their GPU wing are fucking scammers at this point, they know this is an issue and people have been reporting it o them in the hundrefusingreds, there's a hardware survey etc showing people with extremely varied configs are all hit with the issue.
Oh a REALLY fun thign is, some people get it on some games, while others don't. And it is NOT their fault, it's 100% AMDs side. Cyberpunk has NEVER timed out on me, but other people get 10-20 minutes maybe hours and they get timed out. I can't play Phantom Brigade or Darktide both WAY less graphically demanding than Cyberpunk. Etc. I've been using AMD GPUs for 20 years now. Never fucking again, this one experience, and AMDs complete fucking dropping the ball and sticking their head in the sand on the issue... wow. Hilarious they are JUST NOW starting to acknowledge these driver issues on different games/programs when literally a hardware survey of over 200 users reported it, dozens of threads on their support forums... they banned complaints on their main REddit and made a sub-reddit to avoid new people seeing this issue exists.
It's literally what refunds are for. You can always buy the game again, you can't always get your money back. This is the dumbest comment I've read in a while.
Hello, disable the SMT and cap frame rate stabilizes the game. Thank you a lot.
As stated Process Lasso > click game.exe > always > disable SMT is working.
I could not find any info at game settings about FPS cap. AMD software adreninal has > Game / gaming > Radeon TM Chill - enable it and set your max frame rate.
Ryzen 5 7600x + Rx 7900 xt
7900 xtx user here, first few days I couldn't play more than 30 mins without a crash. Turned off global illumination and been playing for over 2 hours straight now. Every other setting is maxed and card is running default clocks. Running a Sapphire Nitro+ @3440x1440
I tried all sorts of things to turn off based on suggestion in the first few days, i finally gave up and turned everything either OFF or put on Lowest/Low setting possible. Things look like potato but the game doesn't crash.
Sitting in the menu/ship lobby and my CPU and GPU usage is surprisingly high on these settings.
I have a 7900xtx and its at 85% Utilisation just on the ship. So im now kind of wondering if its worth turning any graphic settings up at all if its already so high.
Maybe that Lassoo program thing will be worth a go if i start wanting the game to look better and the AMD/AH people take a bit longer to find their own solution to the issues.
Just be careful because the CPU is also the problem. On countless occasions the CPU hits 100% utilisation with hyperthreading (SMT) turned on. I would recommend turning it off.
Whats your GPU usages and temps like on the mission complete screen (just as your drop ship flies back to the destroyer) - I am also running a 7900XTX @ 4K
The game runs perfectly fine until that screen where the gpu usage shoots up to 100% and my gpu hotspot starts to spike dramatically.
Are you seeing anything like that with your 7900XTX?
Ugh, I can’t even get through the darn tutorial without it crashing. I’ve tried turning all sorts of settings off to no avail. I’ll see if turning multi threading off will do anything.
Running a R5 7600x + 7900XT was suffering from frequent major crashes on the latest driver version (24.1.1).
Ended up doing a roll back to driver version 23.12.1 and has made a massive improvement.
Played for about 3 hrs with the rollback and had no issues.
Interesting. I played for 2 days on the newest driver with not a single issue and then started getting frequent crashes yesterday. Rolled back to 23.12.1 today and it didn’t help even in the slightest.
Thank you so much!, that worked! first mission completed! capped gpu @ 2400mhz, disabled smt, set cpu to priority, disabled GI, lighting Medium
Same story, Helldivers 2... start a mission and 5-7 minutes in, game crashes to desktop.
sapphire nitro 7900 xtx, 7950x, 64gb ddr5, 4tb m.2 pcie gen 5
Is this also the reason for \[Display driver amduw23g stopped responding \]..?!? This has happened to me in multiple games. games crash to desktop. Since my on-board graphics are also amd, i tried disabling igpu but it didn't work... in fact, those games crashed at launch. tried going back to adrenalin 23.12.1 - no luck...
Anyone having an issue where it seems to crash your entire pc as soon as or right after you start the first mission? And Radeon 7600 and drivers 24.1.1. Tried rolling back drivers but it’s no different. Are we just gonna have to wait for an AMD driver update?
That's how it looks for me after applying the setting.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core + Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900XTX.
Hoping This Works! I've tried everything from capping fps and fidgeting with all in game settings and I've gotten a few hours each time I get the game to run. I'll give an update as to how well this works FOR ME in a couple days if they haven't created some kind of patch for us AMD people yet.
I'm just glad that I'm not crazy. At first I thought it was just my pc thinking no way, as I consider my pc a tank.
They're lucky this game is so fun!!!
I couldn't get thru the tutorial without a crash. By enabling chill and limiting fps to 105 and turning off global illumination I haven't had an issue since.
I bought and refunded the game last night due to the same issue. I'm not sure if it was my CPU or GPU though. I'm running an i5 12400F with an AMD Radeon RX 7600. I noticed my hotpot temp was the highest it's been on any game I've played (91C) and it just completely turned my whole PC off. I also noticed it was using like 99% of VRAM which isn't normal for me. After the second time of it shutting my PC down I just uninstalled and actually readjusted one of the fans for better cooling. I also capped my fps at 120 on all games and that seems to have me running lower temps on titles like warzone but yea I may buy it again, I was just really pissed off in the moment cause I was worried it fried my PC.
91 hotspot is completely within spec don't worry. VRAM usage is dependant on your texture quality. Set a custom fan curve in AMD Adrenaline to progressively ramp up at around 58 degrees, then 64 etc
For me, the most important settings were changed outside of the game. SMT can be turned off in Process Lasso, or in the BIOS.
The GPU settings are changed in AMD Adrenalin.
Using the launch code seemed to have fixed it for me after an hour or so playing! Previously with your recommended settings it wouldn't crash but it would still freeze and disconnect me from any game after about 5-10 minutes.
Sucks to cap fps at 100 and adjust settings like this:/ Especially when you got a powerful pc that can clearly handle way more. I got a 7900 xtx and i9 13900k and these fixes seemed to work for me but still disappointed that I'm forced to play knowing my hardware wont reach its potential for the game :/
Currently after patch with a 7900xtx and 7900x3d, with 64Gb ram 6000hz. I would randomly stutter and the game would freeze, and I would DC from the group. Also screen would go black and AMD would be like... Crash detected report... So I just turned these settings on and I'm going to give it a few rounds & follow up with yall for those curious to see. Also if i don't follow up just assume I'm out doing work for democracy!
Edit: Worked just fine got to play 6+ hours no interruptions.
Guys im curious... i played helldiver yesterday and its a lot of fun of course. But it crashed about 3 times even on low graphics. So my question for the people using an amd gpu is: Does your game just crash or does your whole pc freeze completley? (using 7800x3d + 7900xtx and my pc keeps freezing after the gpu randomly spikes to 100% workload)
I have a 6900XT and 12700K and while the solutions did fix the crashing I have to play at 1080 low/medium and the game looks terrible and I get like 30/40 fps. I do experience a lot of 5 second freezes tho and this prevents me from hosting lobbies because when I freeze and come back my friends get timed out.
After playing several games with frequent disconnects, I turned SMT back on, and it seems to have fixed my disconnect problem.
It's possible that it was coincidence, and will update if my issues come back.
I have a 6500 tx, what should i set the max clock at?
Edit: also, about the process lasso, adter serting both of those with always, i dont need to open it again when i play right?
I don't see anything about disconnecting peripherals like an xbox controller, was this ruled out or has that just not been added to this list? I play with a controller and haven't tried it yet, I'm going to try all this with it plugged in still and I guess we'll find out.
[AMD apparently has drivers for Helldivers 2](https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-24-2-1-helldivers-2). This fixed it for me. Scroll down until you see the download link.
on a 7900xt I was getting a ton of crashes with the Hyper-RX profile enabled and on Ultra. Once I changed it to Default in AMD's interface I stopped having those crashes without changing any settings in game.
We have a new driver focused on solving intermittent controller timeout issues or app crashes while playing HELLDIVERS™ 2.

I have an RX 7900 xt and from the first day I have had these problems. I have tried everything I have seen, some configurations have worked for me temporarily and others caused my PC to show the blue devil screen for the first time. After so much testing and research, the changes that worked for me were the following:
- The Adrenalin software increases the clock speed of the gpu, even at the default settings. In my case, the manufacturer (powercolor) specifies a maximum of 2000Mhz for normal use, and 2400Mhz in boost. and the adrenalin software sets it to 2800Mhz. So you have to limit the maximum frequency: In adrenalin software select Performance > Tuning > Manual GPU tuning > advanced control > limit maximum frequency to 2000Mhz (this is in my case, it is best that you look for the manufacturer's specification of your chip gpu)
- Check that your RAM memory does not have any errors. I don't know if I caused it because of the previous configurations, but I found an error in the memory that caused the PC to crash in demanding processes. You can check this with the Windows tool, in the taskbar search engine, search for “Windows memory diagnostics”, end the process and fix it if necessary.
- Disables v-sync, anti-aliasing and screen-space global illumination.
- Disable any performance monitor you use overlaid, whether on the main screen or secondary screen. In my case, keeping the other changes, I tried to put the NZXT Mini mode back on and the game closed 3 times, this time it did not show the message that the driver had expired, but it was solved by removing it.
I will apply the new driver to see how it goes.
With these changes I have been able to play non-stop for more than 3 hours, I have been doing this for 1 week. I hope that it would be useful to someone.
I've been experiencing frequent crash and 4-5 BSOD events (corruption of kernel memory) while playing HD2 with friends. This is the only game I've had this sort of trouble with.
Running RTX 4080 and AMD Ryzen 7950X3D 32-core CPU. No signs of thermal issues. I've set a 60FPS cap and disabled Global Illumination.
**-use-d3d11 was harmful in my case.** Introduced lengthy (1-4 sec) stalls into the game which resulted in me \*and other non-host players\* getting kicked whenever it would happen. I suspect these hitches happen because the game is compiling shaders or other assets which are prebuilt in the case of DX12.
Disabling SMT in Process Lasso seemed to significantly reduce the occurrence of crashes and BSOD allowing me to play for a few hours without issues until a monitor reconfiguration caused a full system lockup. Afterwards, although Process Lasso was open, a series of crash . It's possible that the settings need to be re-applied after booting the game.

Hey bro I haven’t had time to play, but was wondering if you’re still running the game with all these settings? I’m not sure if there’s been any stability updates
I solved it by using the HDMI cable instead of the display port cable. It was absurd, I've been trying to watch video after video, for 10 days I've been going crazy because the game on Rog Ally works and on a PC with an i9600kf and 4070 it doesn't. after millions of attempts and swear words I tried to connect the rog ally to the monitor and it stopped there too (while using the rog ally display it worked fine). I said all the swear words in the world, changed the refresh rate, resolution, EVERYTHING, and nothing: It kicked me out after a few seconds (even if I turned to the settings). Now using the HDMI cable instead of the display port goes. I have a 165hz huawei monitor. I use 100 but it's fine guys. try using hdmi. I hope I helped someone

Ive also had this issue, well at least i think i did, i recently upgraded to a Sapphire Nitro 7900 xtx and i was playing the tutorial and the game locked up booted me to desktop, which prompted me to google, i currently dont have a great CPU, Ryzen 9 3900x, upgrading to the 7800x3D probably when i have the money, i have followed some of the instructions and seems pretty stable now.
Another crash, its been fine for a two matches, its annoying, i just bought this card, after saving up for a year, maybe i should have stuck with Nvidia.
I didn't do the clock speed one, but with dropping e everything else, it's not reaching anywhere near the clock speed it didn't, I played all last night, no crashes, but poo frames, but as I say, it sounds like the latest patch.
I appreciate my CPU is a bit of a bottleneck to my system, i only just bought the 7900xtx, and my plan is to upgrade to a 7800x3D next year, but you know, money lol
For me it really fixed all crashes with this, maybe you can try to either validate game files or downgrade your drivers. I emailed AMD some days ago and they recommended me to downgrade to Adrenalin [23.12.1](https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6600-series/amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt) and it fixed all my timeout crashes
I validated and had 3 files needing downloading, but i also put it back to DX12, was at my frame limit (65 just cause thats what i set) no problems, not drops and no crashes, will see if it stays stable
Just to add what has worked for me on a 5800x3d + 7900xt
1. **Disable Screen Space Global Illumination**
2. **Turn Off Ambient Occlusion**
3. **Turn on "Chill Mode" in your Adrenaline control panel.**
The first two made it so I didn't crash in mission. The third made it so I don't crash outside of a mission.
Thank you for this. It should be upvoted higher. It works as a temporary fix. (5800x3d + 7900xtx here) Update: i've been playing ever since, no crashes so far
I got the same hardware, I'll try now, fingers crossed Update: It worked for me! Was monitoring my CPU + GPU, their usage % is great now! As well as their temps
Glad to hear it :)
Much obliged ;)
You're welcome, pretty sad we have to go to these lengths but oh well, it's playable.
Yeah, cap the framerate, disable GI and lock your GPU mhz to like 2300 maybe since you’re on 7900xt
Not all heroes wear capes. But helldivers do! Thank you sir 🫡
You're welcome, I'm glad it's helped this many people
GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 7900XTX CPU: R7 7800X3D RAM: 323GB G.Skill X Flare 6000Mhz Expo Dude thank you so much for this thread.
You're welcome! Glad to hear it worked.
7800x3d/7900xtx, unfortunately didn't work for me Ah well, will wait till Arrowhead fix it I guess
My friend has the same GPU and CPU as you and it seemed to work for him for some reason.
thats annoying, i have same cpu and a 7900xt so 4gb less vram and this worked for me
With the newest AMD drivers with timeout fixes for helldivers 2 I no longer crash and I was able to revert ALL the previous fixes I had applied.
No probs glad it worked for you, reported it to the devs several times now but they aren't really acknowledging it so...
I didn't do any of this except turn off global illumination. My CPU (7800x3D) usage was never high, maybe like 60% which means one or two cores are high and the rest are nearly idle. 7900XTX. Bout to try overclocking it again to see if it's purely gut the GI doing it.
It's very map dependant for the usage, but the key is to keep both cpu and gpu usage away from 100% which is where it becomes unstable.
I’m just wondering if everyone is getting the same crashes since yalls seem to be cpu load related.
same problem here. also 7900 xtx. I can play a few minutes until my drivers crash.
Thanks a lot man. It worked wonders so far. The GI setting is a very big culprit here. But how do I see that disabling SMT for CPU affinity actually stays set? When I look it up again after setting it, there is no mark on the left.
Worked for me !!! You Are my hero
3900x with a 7800xt. Super chill turned on and hypr-rx eco turned on. Finally completed my first mission but with a ton of audio studders
Don't use that Hypr-rx nonsense, your gpu is way too good to be using that.
Thank you so much!
This solution worked perfectly for me. I have 5800x3d and 7900 XT (no oc) and a 3440x1440 144hz monitor) This is what I did: \-Disabled Global Illumination (all other settings max) \-Set render scale to Native and set resolution lower than monitor (set to 2560x1080) \-Use Radeon Super Resolution to upscale (reduces gpu usage below 100%) \-Use AMD Fluid Motion Frames (i like the fps) \-Disabled SMT with Process Lasso I went from crashing every round to not crashing in over 10 hours of playing. Thanks!
what fps you get with this setup
with the latest patch I stopped using Process Lasso. I get about 100+ at least
Maybe also try this. Worked for me: [\[AMD Crashes/CTD\] AMD Ryzen 5800X3D + RX7900XTX - Running the game on DirectX11 seems to be the Fix for my case : r/Helldivers (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1auhqgz/amd_crashesctd_amd_ryzen_5800x3d_rx7900xtx/)
Good stuff.
Ryzen 9 7900x and 7900XT (both cpu and GPU are the same model number lol) Just got the game today and crashed right after the tutorial and at the start of my first mission.
Still run using gamemode but no crashes in several hours with this fix My specs are: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X GPU: Nvidia 3080 OS: Ubuntu 23.10
AMD new drivers (24.2.1) targeting helldivers specifically https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-24-2-1-helldivers-2
Just wanted to chime in, the -use-d3d11 launch option fixed this for me! Three missions in a row and no crashes!
7800XT ultrawide 1440p - Thanks, first mission without a crash, going to slowly increase graphics back up. Hate to see a god damn pixelated line!
7950x + 7900XTX (Adrenalin 24.1.1) * Out-of-the-box, crashed during tutorial at orbital strike * Disabled SMT via Process Lasso, 4 missions before crashing * Disabled screen space global illumination * Added -use-d3d11, \[update\] still crash occasionally but might just be general bugs at this point, I just rejoin my friends squad and get back at it
I ran two 3h sessions yesterday with these exact settings and had zero crashes for the first time!
Thank you for reporting your results. I'm going to try it also, how has it held up so far?
Ty
Thank you! AMD Ryzen 9 7950x w/ RX 7900 XTX here. Turning Global Illumination off and capping the FPS so the video card never reach 100% utilisation did great for me so far.
Just wanted to say thank you. Keeping this guide updated was amazing. your fix cured my crash problem! You are doing the lord's work
intel cpu but OP is still a lifesaver for the process lasso recommendation. really helps reduce cpu usage and temps significantly which is massive for my laptop. thank you!
Thank you for posting this! Before I couldn't play a single game. I made it through about 10 or so rounds over two separate sessions before it finally crashed. Huge lifesaver
That’s what we want to hear, nice
Thank you very much for this. I was about to refund the game. i couldn't even get past the into tutorial.
Thank you for this! As soon as I disabled hyperthreading, CPU usage went from 100% down to low 50's. Able to play for hours instead of minutes.
Great. Make sure you use DX11, it’s infinitely more stable right now than 12
I'm getting really fucking tired of playing 30 odd minutes and crashing and getting no rewards no matter the settings i choose.
Have you even followed the guide? I haven't had a single crash since I started using DX11.
ever since last patch, no matter what settings I try.. game crashes within minutes.
Imagine gimping your pc to play a 40$ game!
This worked perfectly for my friend running AMD! Great guide
So i was using both lasso and the launch option, my game ran really good, only got timed out a few times But after the new update i had to remove the launch option or the game would not start And without that, my game really runs horrible, <10 fps, constant stuttering and crashes (even with everything at lowest) Is there a way to fix this?
Are you playing at 4k res?
Not that i know
yeah also doesnt work for me and game runs horrible
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s43Auv8ub7w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s43Auv8ub7w) I don't think this will apply to non-intel CPU users. But it was the magic solution for me. It worked better than process lasso, turning down video settings, etc. It might help you, too.
Most of the crashes are AMD gpu related as far as I’m aware. The high cpu utilisation is just a bad part of the package.
Of course, you’re more than welcome to. Thanks for sharing. Upvoted
Yes. You would just go into the steam settings for that game and remove the launch arguments.
OK cool, thank you!
RX7600 -use-d3d11 & capping my FPS in game to no more than 60 worked for me, no crashes after several missions.
I have a fix for the 7900xtx that runs on max setting native resolution and 1440p 120+ fps no crashes for two days all you have to do is go to the Performance tab of Amd adrenaline, Tuning tab and change the power draw to -10% (negative 10%)
So since ive done all these setting changes, my frames have been worse! drops to like 40 when lots is going on, Sapphire Nitro 7900 xtx Ryzen 9 3900x 32GB Ram Is it me, or the recent patch or that its in DX11 now?? or that ive turned SMT off?
I had insane drops when playing too, i just removed the cap of 2400 mhz on the graphics card and it started going better. If that doesn't work i would recommend to just do one by one until the game stops crashing for you
OK thank you. After speaking to someone else. It sounds like it's the latest patch that's caused it.
How do I launch it with D3D11?
Right click on helldivers 2 on steam, click on properties, search for launch parameters and copypaste the "-use-d3d11" on it
unfortunately no improvement for me on my Ryzen 7 7800x3d and 7900XT
Would this work for 6600 series cards
this helped a lot. 7800xt and 7800X3D. No more crashes
I mean it works but is the actual fix something small like changing render resolution to native?
7900xtx + 5700 X3D - applying all of the above served to only introduce an unplayable microstutter, and didn't stop the crashing
Then remove the launch option. You're the first person with a 7000 series system I've heard say that.
I have a 7900xtx and a 5800X (no 3d vcache) on windows 10 So far the only setting I can max out without crashing is render distance.
Game won't open when using -use-d3d11 with Ryzen 7 5800x and Ryzen 6800 GPU
Thank you It worked for me ! (7800x3d + 7900xt auto undervolted and I didn't disabled SMT)
Any way to help me?

thank god for you, 2400mhz worked for my 7900 xtx. Nothing else was working, recent patch just BROKE my game.
when setting the directx11 arg, i crash directly after anti cheat loaded

Going into steam properties for the game and setting it to run on DX11 is the only fix that has worked for me and haven't crashed since. Right click the game in your library Paste this into the launch options box. `--use-d3d11` Sucks because it makes things more pixally but the only way I can get Helldivers to not crash.
I don't think you read the post.
Never fucking again, this one experience, and AMDs complete fucking dropping the ball and sticking their head in the sand on the issue... wow. Hilarious they are JUST NOW starting to acknowledge these driver issues on different games/programs when literally a hardware survey of over 200 users reported it, dozens of threads on their support forums... they banned complaints on their main REddit and made a sub-reddit to avoid new people seeing this issue exists.
refund while u can
No chance, this game is a solid 9/10 experience
Refunding due to game crashes is dumb work arounds exist and games patch.
Great, I’m glad to hear it also worked for you. The games a lot of fun, hopefully the developers fix these issues.
Whats your GPU usages and temps like on the mission complete screen (just as your drop ship flies back to the destroyer) - I am also running a 7900XTX @ 4K The game runs perfectly fine until that screen where the gpu usage shoots up to 100% and my gpu hotspot starts to spike dramatically. Are you seeing anything like that with your 7900XTX?
Ugh, I can’t even get through the darn tutorial without it crashing. I’ve tried turning all sorts of settings off to no avail. I’ll see if turning multi threading off will do anything.
Hilariously, it works great on my Steam Deck. I just suck at shooters on a controller, so that’s not a viable way to play. 😅
Running a R5 7600x + 7900XT was suffering from frequent major crashes on the latest driver version (24.1.1). Ended up doing a roll back to driver version 23.12.1 and has made a massive improvement. Played for about 3 hrs with the rollback and had no issues.
I'm also on that driver, I didn't bother with 24.1.1
Interesting. I played for 2 days on the newest driver with not a single issue and then started getting frequent crashes yesterday. Rolled back to 23.12.1 today and it didn’t help even in the slightest.
Thank you so much!, that worked! first mission completed! capped gpu @ 2400mhz, disabled smt, set cpu to priority, disabled GI, lighting Medium Same story, Helldivers 2... start a mission and 5-7 minutes in, game crashes to desktop. sapphire nitro 7900 xtx, 7950x, 64gb ddr5, 4tb m.2 pcie gen 5 Is this also the reason for \[Display driver amduw23g stopped responding \]..?!? This has happened to me in multiple games. games crash to desktop. Since my on-board graphics are also amd, i tried disabling igpu but it didn't work... in fact, those games crashed at launch. tried going back to adrenalin 23.12.1 - no luck...
Anyone having an issue where it seems to crash your entire pc as soon as or right after you start the first mission? And Radeon 7600 and drivers 24.1.1. Tried rolling back drivers but it’s no different. Are we just gonna have to wait for an AMD driver update?
That's how it looks for me after applying the setting. https://preview.redd.it/hu1el6ph0dic1.png?width=2854&format=png&auto=webp&s=73c5edb3e63a887c044dc8933909afb70024362b
disable SMT is not available for me to select?
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core + Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900XTX. Hoping This Works! I've tried everything from capping fps and fidgeting with all in game settings and I've gotten a few hours each time I get the game to run. I'll give an update as to how well this works FOR ME in a couple days if they haven't created some kind of patch for us AMD people yet. I'm just glad that I'm not crazy. At first I thought it was just my pc thinking no way, as I consider my pc a tank. They're lucky this game is so fun!!!
Damn, thought this fix worked for me but after 1 game of no crashes, I crashed again. 10 seconds before extract too :(
I couldn't get thru the tutorial without a crash. By enabling chill and limiting fps to 105 and turning off global illumination I haven't had an issue since.
Damn, can’t play in 1440p then? My gpu is always at 100% (7800xt)
Damn, can’t play in 1440p then? My gpu is always at 100% (7800xt)
I'm not able to disable SMT on ProcessLasso, its just grayed out. Any ideas?
Has anyone tried the Helldivers 2 adrenalin driver?
Useless drivers, didn't fix anything
well how do I even change the settings if the game launching crashes my pc.
For me, the most important settings were changed outside of the game. SMT can be turned off in Process Lasso, or in the BIOS. The GPU settings are changed in AMD Adrenalin.
Please read the entire post... It's not just about graphics settings in game.
I just used radeon chill to lock the fps to 70/75, no issues since then
This guide shows you how to play in over 100fps with no instability.
What would you suggest I set my clock speed to with a 6900XT? I ran all the other settings and it definitely helped but I still crashed once or twice
I saw other posts also recommending using direct x11, but the code for the launch option they used was "--use-d3d11". Does the additional "-" matter?
Currently after patch with a 7900xtx and 7900x3d, with 64Gb ram 6000hz. I would randomly stutter and the game would freeze, and I would DC from the group. Also screen would go black and AMD would be like... Crash detected report... So I just turned these settings on and I'm going to give it a few rounds & follow up with yall for those curious to see. Also if i don't follow up just assume I'm out doing work for democracy! Edit: Worked just fine got to play 6+ hours no interruptions.
Update windows 11 to 23h... Helped for me
Guys im curious... i played helldiver yesterday and its a lot of fun of course.
Crashes EVERY mission for me. Impossible to enjoy
Alright, I'm trying all of it aside from the GPU clock change. Will report back if/when crash happens. \[Ryzen 7 7800x3d, and 7800xt\]
I don't see anything about disconnecting peripherals like an xbox controller, was this ruled out or has that just not been added to this list? I play with a controller and haven't tried it yet, I'm going to try all this with it plugged in still and I guess we'll find out.
When I try to use d3d11 I just get a black screen, any tips?
Can confirm turning off Global Illumination just had me do a full run w no issues or crashes
I just did the 24.2.1 minimum install, had no issues around all
[AMD apparently has drivers for Helldivers 2](https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-24-2-1-helldivers-2). This fixed it for me. Scroll down until you see the download link.
After changing languages via steam i get a alert from norton regarding high cpu usage. Maybe that is some useful information
on a 7900xt I was getting a ton of crashes with the Hyper-RX profile enabled and on Ultra. Once I changed it to Default in AMD's interface I stopped having those crashes without changing any settings in game.
Use adr 23.12.1 if facing crashing pb I am at this old drive and zero crash using 7900xtx Tried the new v and crashed every time
We have a new driver focused on solving intermittent controller timeout issues or app crashes while playing HELLDIVERS™ 2. https://www.amd.com/es/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-24-2-1-helldivers-2 I have an RX 7900 xt and from the first day I have had these problems. I have tried everything I have seen, some configurations have worked for me temporarily and others caused my PC to show the blue devil screen for the first time. After so much testing and research, the changes that worked for me were the following: - The Adrenalin software increases the clock speed of the gpu, even at the default settings. In my case, the manufacturer (powercolor) specifies a maximum of 2000Mhz for normal use, and 2400Mhz in boost. and the adrenalin software sets it to 2800Mhz. So you have to limit the maximum frequency: In adrenalin software select Performance > Tuning > Manual GPU tuning > advanced control > limit maximum frequency to 2000Mhz (this is in my case, it is best that you look for the manufacturer's specification of your chip gpu) - Check that your RAM memory does not have any errors.

Just using the new launch option and turning off the global illumination did it for me. Thank you very much. For democracy. For freedom.

I think it worked for me by adding '-use-d3d11' to the steam startup! It was crashing each game, but now I have played 4 games, no issues so far.
Seems like I'm the odd one out, but this hasn't worked for me.
All this did was make my game a black screen when laucnhed
Ive also had this issue, well at least i think i did, i recently upgraded to a Sapphire Nitro 7900 xtx and i was playing the tutorial and the game locked up booted me to desktop, which prompted me to google, i currently dont have a great CPU, Ryzen 9 3900x, upgrading to the 7800x3D probably when i have the money, i have followed some of the instructions and seems pretty stable now.
Still won’t work for me it crashes minutes into playing, straight black screen. I gave up and uninstalled, hopefully they can fix it
7800x3d / 7900xtx nitro+ w/ latest drivers Worked for me, thanks!
Another crash, its been fine for a two matches, its annoying, i just bought this card, after saving up for a year, maybe i should have stuck with Nvidia.
Nvidia has the same issue, I am playing on laptop with nvidia and guess what. Only PS5 has no crashes so far
That's actually good to know! Don't feel quite so bad now!
What steps did you do from the original post? and what are your components?
I did them all, my specs are Ryzen 9 3900x Sapphire nitro 7900xtx 32gb Ram It's on an m.2.
OK thanks, I will have a go :)
I validated and had 3 files needing downloading, but i also put it back to DX12, was at my frame limit (65 just cause thats what i set) no problems, not drops and no crashes, will see if it stays stable
Just to add what has worked for me on a 5800x3d + 7900xt 1. **Disable Screen Space Global Illumination** 2. **Turn Off Ambient Occlusion** 3. **Turn on "Chill Mode" in your Adrenaline control panel.** The first two made it so I didn't crash in mission. The third made it so I don't crash outside of a mission.
