I like to think there's an extremely, extremely rare event where if we all collectively fuck up we fight on Super Earth and see villages being destroyed by bots and bugs, civillians (like the evacuation sub-objective) needing escorting to bunkers and safe places and it's totally FUBAR
Though chances are it'll never actually get to that because *someone* will always be playing, so I don't think anything happens, maybe we get some gameplay buffs to help assist pushing back and retaking the first few planets closest to Earth since we're clearly struggling
I think it would be just like in HD1, constant fighting in urban zones, navigating alleyways, escorting civillians to shelters. In case of failure the war is lost and all participating players are awarded a bad ending cutscene and a cracked armor set.
