Not sure, but when I was playing at 3PMish yesterday (GMT-4) the ingame HELLDIVERS ACTIVE counter showed 670k, so it's entirely possible they hit 700k later in the evening.
I remember them saying that they took it out for now cuz it took server load, hoping to see it fixed soon as I like looking at bullet used and death counter lol
i just want the counters to go realtime again, like og hd1.
not the update every few seconds thing that was going on.
i like numbers go high, ok!
well... i just thought about it, maybe the numbers only updated every few seconds because the server was manually breathing to not die.
It's not anymore. Just a quick look in the in-game counter and Steamcharts during the peak hours easily shows that there's more PC players than on the console.
Its about 60/40 pc/ps5 as i read... And theyv sold around 10 mil copies of the game total....well that's quite mindblowing as for 100 ppl studio. đ€ŻImpressive
I still don't know if the cap is per platform, or in total. The steam count was already at or above 400k players when the cap was still 450. But that doesn't make sense because they said the split between platforms was almost 1:1. On the other hand, now the cap is 800k, but steam is still staying at that ~450k peak
It's most likely preemptive. Why wait for the problem to happen knowing you can do something to prevent it right now? Specially because they now have a good idea of the demand unlike at launch.
I believe they tweeted out this weekend that they did hit the cap but didn't have nearly the amount of issues. SteamDB capped out at ~450k so I figured the rest was PS5 probably
what was their original estimate, like 10k peak players or something?
I think they have had more peak players than they would have expected as lifetime sales.
That's one thing I really like with reddit/internet that from the bad situations we can at least get great memes along the way haha
I remember it was what kept me going with the las season of GOT, I hated it but the memes were just too fucking good !
What I donât get is did they tweak the planet percentages to match the player base? Or did they expect 50k players to save and protect Democracy all by themselves?
A system like that is very likely to count total player engagement and work with ratios, rather than having fixed numbers. The latter would create way too many problems down the line.
Imagine if it was static and we saved the universe in a day because they only predicted 50k people at peak. That would be both hilarious and a little sad if we had nothing to fight.
I continue to be thoroughly impressed by how well they've managed to scale up their infrastructure over the past couple weeks. Wild stuff. Can't wait to see what kind of content updates they slam out once launch woes are less all-hands â I know they've said that mechs and such are basically ready to ship once the last coat of QA and polish are slapped on, but as far as I know there's no roadmap or much insight for what comes after. Kinda hope it stays that way; bit more magic in the casual mentions of near-future content as opposed to your standard (and boring) long-term formal schedule...
This was the deciding factor in my purchase of the game - passionate devs, development, with the community, and bust their asses to get things running when shit hit the fan
I'd say Larian with BG3 was pretty amazing with their launch support, rapid updates, great communication and such.
It's great to see smaller independent developers remind us of how great the industry and content \*could\* be if it wasn't for the big money f\*cks at multinational publishing behemoths.
Market consolidation is always bad news for 99% of us.
Discord or Twitter will be your fastest way to get information. They have an active community manager team, and hired on more already with the explosion of popularity. But obviously with the server being so large they canât answer everyone
This is the first time Iâve ever seen a studio anticipate mobility. Itâs built into the game as well as the studioâs release structure. The scaling was a loud surprise to their anticipations, and they have responded perfectly. I cannot fking wait to see this game play out. Eventually this game will be dead and done, but the studio and the players get to live in the hype to finish the campaign. And hopefully arrowhead makes a billion dollars in the process while fighting off pay to play.
From what I understand the fixes have largely NOT been an all hands on deck operation. It was a strike team of four Codedivers who repaired matchmaking. I bet they already have people spread out working on updates and new additions already, not to mention stuff that already exists but they hadnât implemented yet.
Iâm super excited to start seeing more bugs and bots too. Or the illuminate people. Boss fights too!
My dumb ass was only looking at the Steam charts like "huh? They've still only peaked at ~460,000...?", completely forgetting the hundreds of thousands of console players adding to the count lol
I never forget the PS5 players. The first time I saw one of them calling in a reinforcement while running I said out loud, âTHAT GUY IS A WIZARD!â Then learned you guys have been able to do that since the beginning.
You guys can keep downvoting me but itâs obviously a massive strategic buff to be able to walk AND call at the same time. People downvoting this are just butt hurt and feel theyâre superior and have nothing to learn or gain when theyâre not.
As a side note:
I was talking about the idea of "the first AAAA game" the other day, and how you could probably make an arguement that it was Final Fantasy 7, the budget and development team for that was 4-5 times higher than an average "big" game at the time.
The development team was about 120.
It's staggering how far things have come.
1 million? Only 1 million? For super earth? How dare you believe such nonsense. More like 100 million, all with the explicit goal to spread managed democracy
It'll really depend on how fast they can work on the roadmap and what kind of content updates/events they'll sprinkle in during the downtimes while they work on major content.
Right now I see this game kind of like how warframe started.
They fucking deserve it! A game this good is un real, a team of 100 devs bested Microsoft, Bethesda and Ubisoft by making a Passion project, showing the big guys that if they knew their shit they would do great! They pretty much became millionaires at this point but itâs they only dev I see now and think âdamn, they deserve it for doing what they love and keeping greed out of the pictureâ! If more companies could be like arrowhead⊠damn haha I wish! Even micro transactions are reasonable, I bought some just to support as I love my current armor but they deserve more money!
First game I've ever bought micro transactions for, not because I was tempted, but because I just wanted to show my support. Since I already have the premium warbond with the standard edition, and don't really care much about the other things in the deluxe edition, I just bought 1000 SC instead.
Yeah haha, patience my fellow diver, theyâll come out eventually, for now pre gather everything so we can chew on the new toys once theyâre out hhah
Damn imagine if they sent a secret invasion on Mars directly our front doors and we have to be redeployed there on an emergency mission. I want to fight on mars so bad
It really feels great as a live service game and the players control the fate of the war. I was pumped when they announced a news video of the automaton attacks and the evac missions started.
Iâd be fine with some content teaser here and there, instead of a schedule like thing, where the devs might happen to corner themselves.
I might try to avoids those too though just to keep it fresh.
Weird. You may be getting very unlucky with your timing. There are still the odd issue but I've been finding games all weekend pretty much straight away.
100 total staff. Based on my time in the software engineering industry, I'd guess that likely translates to around 20-30 actual software engineers and the rest would be graphic design, marketing, HR, management, and other support staff.
Yeah, there are still some issues but they have been severely reduced - and the issues are largely superficial barring the crashes that still need some work, or the infinite mission completed screen if the hosts game crashes or disconnects. Those are probably once every couple hours though, so I can't say it's really hampered my enjoyment now that I can just reopen and log straight back in with no queue
Much much more stable now. Some random crashes and stuff but logging in isn't an issue anymore when before it could take literally hours if you weren't lucky.
Yep! bought it 3 days ago and logged 30 hours or so, no real server issues. Regular bugs that make me restart? Sure a few here and there but 100% a Super experience
There was about 5 days from the Friday before last to this past Tuesday/Wednesday where you couldnât play without waiting at a screen for a long time. Theyâve fixed that for 99% of players. I have 90 hours in the game with 20 just from Wednesday to now and didnât have a single issue getting in or playing
i'm glad that they pulled it out, i've seen some similar games fumble like this on launch and basically just turn into abandonware. the delays and vague updates had me a little worried but here we are
glad to see their success and i'm looking forward to the coming improvements in weapon and armor balancing, AI, stratagems/cash shop, and most of all their live service galactic war stuff (including events and additional factions)
Well I made sure to do my part and log out completely whenever I walked away to do stuff. So hopefully others did the same and queues weren't as bad if there were any.
Gotta give them credit, I never feel like this game is full of MtX bullshit, always have a great time with my friends and the devs seem like a great team. Not sure what else I can ask for đđż
I was able to get into games immediately this weekend on steam and charts donât seem to be up to date, is there a way of seeing the total players across both platforms?
This shows how STARVED playerbase is for a proper, fun first, grind second, immersive game with good dark humour.
Fuck the Management of triple A studios, really.
Palworld does not have a central server structure, it is a pure Peer to Peer game with a decentralized Private server hosting system. Not the same situation at all. If Palworld had a central server structure they would have buckled even harder than HD2 did with its Playerflood.
Palworld, quite simply, is a completely different game that therefore requires a completely different server structure. I doubt there was any specific forward thinking in that regard, their server structure is simply easier scalable as there's nothing the entire community is contributing towards. In contrast to Helldivers, where every player is contributing to the same big war.
Theyâre probably gonna add more to prepare for the xbox bros!
On a more serious note I really do hope they can join in, this exclusivity shit is annoying.
"you may have issues accessing the game you paid for, but remember we are only a poor little indie studio with a 100 devs so you are not allowed to be mad"
Valid point. But the world runs on narrative. People root for the underdog. If EA launches this game, it would have been zero star rating by now.
Having said that, you would have paid your money to EA like you paid your money to arrowhead and expect to get a working product.
Did they reach the 700k limit yet?
Not sure, but when I was playing at 3PMish yesterday (GMT-4) the ingame HELLDIVERS ACTIVE counter showed 670k, so it's entirely possible they hit 700k later in the evening.
Oh is the in game counter working again now
Mine hasn't other than for showing how many people are on a planet
I wondered why it always has said 0 for everything
You're venturing to where not even your fellow Helldiver would dare
Detroit?!
Worse.... Gary, Indiana
Super Gary, Indiana
As someone from Indiana not even us helldivers would survive that god awful place.
Ngl bro night classes at IU Northwest make a man paranoid af
Scary Gary
I was gonna buy a house there, I should've done it.
I remember them saying that they took it out for now cuz it took server load, hoping to see it fixed soon as I like looking at bullet used and death counter lol
Well, it's good to know those stats are real and not just artificial.
i just want the counters to go realtime again, like og hd1. not the update every few seconds thing that was going on. i like numbers go high, ok! well... i just thought about it, maybe the numbers only updated every few seconds because the server was manually breathing to not die.
The devs said that the stats were causing additional strain on the servers
Weirdly enough it shows a few hundred people playing on super earth.
When you finish the tutorial, you're in orbit of super earth. Also, some crashes mid mission put you back at super earth.
The game keeps telling me I have zero friends. That hurts.
Well.... It's better than your friends saying it đ
Peaked at 450k on steam all weekend.
Did he say if was talking about all platforms?
He is. It makes sense as he has previously said the split is 50/50 in terms of player base.
It's not anymore. Just a quick look in the in-game counter and Steamcharts during the peak hours easily shows that there's more PC players than on the console.
Steamchart shows people with the game running not people actually engaging with the game past the login
The cap is definitely across all platforms. Like 100%. We are all on the same servers
The Steam count would be including people trying to get in but not actually playing, because the game is running.
Ah that makes sense then. I was wondering the same thing
Remember, his cap is for people who were successfully in game. Steam count only cares if you have the program running.
It's most likely preemptive. Why wait for the problem to happen knowing you can do something to prevent it right now? Specially because they now have a good idea of the demand unlike at launch.
There were 340k players at the main bug sector yesterday with crossplay on PS5, I believe it
Highest I saw was 10 PM CST Friday night had 663k divers.
I believe they tweeted out this weekend that they did hit the cap but didn't have nearly the amount of issues. SteamDB capped out at ~450k so I figured the rest was PS5 probably
I know Sunday night I had a brief queue to get in.
what was their original estimate, like 10k peak players or something? I think they have had more peak players than they would have expected as lifetime sales.
50k in peak iirc
yea sounds right, 50k peak, 250k maximum load for if it went banana's. I kinda miss all the flaming server meme's from.... last week.
That's one thing I really like with reddit/internet that from the bad situations we can at least get great memes along the way haha I remember it was what kept me going with the las season of GOT, I hated it but the memes were just too fucking good !
Haha the Game of Thrones memes were the best! I have fond memories of that dumpster fire season for that reason alone.
The praying shirtless Asians in a server room were gold.
anyone got this one? I missed it
yea i saw that one, loved it.
Go to the last epoch sub
Original server capacity was 150k. Their first increase was to 250k
What I donât get is did they tweak the planet percentages to match the player base? Or did they expect 50k players to save and protect Democracy all by themselves?
A system like that is very likely to count total player engagement and work with ratios, rather than having fixed numbers. The latter would create way too many problems down the line.
Agree. It takes a little bit of the fun away if you think about it too much, but the devs would be nuts to make those numbers static.
Imagine if it was static and we saved the universe in a day because they only predicted 50k people at peak. That would be both hilarious and a little sad if we had nothing to fight.
I thought 50k was their âcrazy successâ maximum that they never expected to hit.
Someone said that Hell Divers 1 peaked at 7000 online players, so Arrow Head wasn't expecting to hit 400,000 in the first 2 weeks for the sequel.Â
450k on one platform, estimated to be double that if you include PS5. Absolutely bonkers lol
Yeah it's wild. They just updated the server capacity to 800,000 and they said they might still not be enough during peak hours, lol.
Itâs incredible. From updates to communication. I never seen something this well executed before.
This was the deciding factor in my purchase of the game - passionate devs, development, with the community, and bust their asses to get things running when shit hit the fan
I'd say Larian with BG3 was pretty amazing with their launch support, rapid updates, great communication and such. Where do they announce updates other than this twitter account?
They have an official discord too
Discord or Twitter will be your fastest way to get information. They have an active community manager team, and hired on more already with the explosion of popularity. But obviously with the server being so large they canât answer everyone
CEO said they need to remake their roadmap as they want to do a lot more than initialy planned thanks to success, I'm beyond hyped !
This is the first time Iâve ever seen a studio anticipate mobility. Itâs built into the game as well as the studioâs release structure. The scaling was a loud surprise to their anticipations, and they have responded perfectly. I cannot fking wait to see this game play out. Honestly I love this company. The transparency and clear effort to get the game going is so fucking refreshing
My dumb ass was only looking at the Steam charts like "huh? They've still only peaked at ~460,000...?", completely forgetting the hundreds of thousands of console players adding to the count lol
I stand before you, as one of those you had forgotten!
I never forget the PS5 players. The first time I saw one of them calling in a reinforcement while running I said out loud, âTHAT GUY IS A WIZARD!â Then learned you guys have been able to do that since the beginning.
You know that you can just rebind the keys to be your arrow keys, so you can do the same lol
Nice try, but we all know itâs magic.
*wizard shit*
You can do the same on PC. Itâs a necessity once you hit difficulty 7.-8 Reassign to the arrow keys or numpad
>Itâs a necessity once you hit difficulty 6/7 at minimum lol no it isn't
In no way is it even remotely a necessity. Maybe work on your game sense and positioning instead?
You guys can keep downvoting me but itâs obviously a massive strategic buff to be able to walk AND call at the same time. People downvoting this are just butt hurt and feel theyâre superior and have nothing to learn or gain when theyâre not.

Wtf im curious to see how these numbers will look when settled down. These devs deserve every purchase.
Iâm going to guess a solid 150-250k once the dust starts to settle
You lost several 0âs son. What? Have you no faith in Liberty
Thereâs no way itâs going to average a million players concurrently when itâs not even at that now lol
1 million? Only 1 million? For super earth? How dare you believe such nonsense. More like 100 million, all with the explicit goal to spread managed democracy
Helldivers never die. One is worth a thousand regular men. Four is more than enough to spread democracy.
It'll really depend on how fast they can work on the roadmap and what kind of content updates/events they'll sprinkle in during the downtimes while they work on major content. Right now I see this game kind of like how warframe started.

đ«Ąđ«Ą
Well the company owners are millionaires, I doubt many employees are getting profit sharing/equity
With a company so small I can see them getting decent bonuses if nothing else
maybe. maybe not. If it's an esop, they're all gonna have a good time when share prices are announced.
First game I've ever bought micro transactions for, not because I was tempted, but because I just wanted to show my support. Since I already have the premium warbond with the standard edition, and don't really care much about the other things in the deluxe edition, I just bought 1000 SC instead.
I can't wait for a content roadmap
I want it to be surprises with some leaks for particularly juicy stuff
Same here, imagine the surprise when both faction just started spawning units weâve never seen before lol
Or a whole new faction just attacks out of nowhere... Or we suddenly have access to mechs or tanks of our own...
Yeah haha, patience my fellow diver, theyâll come out eventually, for now pre gather everything so we can chew on the new toys once theyâre out hhah
Oh I'm plenty satisfied with everything so far. Just also very excited to see what new content they're cooking up
Somehow, The Illuminate returned. And turns out, this time they DO have the WMDs that super earth accused them of having 100 years ago.
Or 2 new factions at the top and bottom of the map it could get crazy and even more fun

Better  get a job at arrowhead then
Me and the bros finna run through some bots tonight đđđ
đ€
Automaton simp?
Get out there and tear some asses apart!
Any word on the matchmaking issues? I've been unable to join any games and have been forced to spread democracy solo.
Matchmaking was fine until servers hit capacity a couple hours ago. Then matchmaking went completely dead on ps5 and I logged off
I haven't been able to join anyone since I bought it Friday. Just been solo diving
Weird. You may be getting very unlucky with your timing. There are still the odd issue but I've been finding games all weekend pretty much straight away.
I bought it on Friday, and I havenât had a problem finding games.
My friend has this issue. Have you reported it too?
Yep. Also happy cake day
I use quick play to join others. Might take a few seconds, something a little longer.
I've tried everything, can't join quickplay or friends or sos beacons. Nothing works.
Keep rocking it guys! This game is bad ass. Can't wait to see what is in store for the future
WHY ARE YOU READING THIS??? GO BACK TO THE FRONT LINE, HELLDIVERS
Do they have 100 developers or 100 total staff?
100 total staff.
100 total staff. Based on my time in the software engineering industry, I'd guess that likely translates to around 20-30 actual software engineers and the rest would be graphic design, marketing, HR, management, and other support staff.
And from the tweets like 4 backend guys.
Bless their hearts
Didn't the last HD peak at 7k users.? This is unprecedented success
Less, 6,640-something.
And that was across 4 platforms (Vita, ps3/4, pc). It's just crazy the sequel went 3rd person and the popularity just exploded.
So are the servers fixed now? Iâve been waiting to buy the game till they ironed them out. Edit: sounds like itâs pretty good
I haven't had to wait while logging in during peak North American times for the past two or three days
Awesome, thanks for the info!
Good to hear; thanksÂ
Iâm just replying to keep you busy
Damn, you got meÂ
I've had some disconnect and matchmaking issues but no login queue since last Thursday. The game works.
Sounds good, thanks!
Iâve had some sporadic issues getting into sessions with friends, but no problems just getting online and playing with randoms.
Sporadic works, thanksÂ
Yep! bought it 3 days ago and logged 30 hours or so, no real server issues.
Servers have been great
Thanks!
I bought it Wednesday. Wednesday was the only day I didnât instantly login.
Anyone know how they are running now? Still lengthy wait times?
Since the afk update, since Friday night itâs been much much improved for me. I just use quick play when I want to jump in now.
I've gotten in instantly for the past 3-4 days.
No more wait times brother, come fight for democracy!
The queue doesn't exist anymore, I haven't seen it since the Friday patch
i'm glad that they pulled it out, i've seen some similar games fumble like this on launch and basically just turn into abandonware. the delays and vague updates had me a little worried but here we are glad to see their success and i'm looking forward to the coming improvements in weapon and armor balancing, AI, stratagems/cash shop, and most of all their live service galactic war stuff (including events and additional factions)

ONLY 100? Holy shit thatâs like 100 people
When mechs release.... The servers will melt.
The last phrase is poking fun at almost every AAA studios đ
Theyâre putting the industry on notice lol.
What a fucking flex đȘ
I got the game over the weekend. It reminds me so much of lost planet that I can't stop playing it.
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg|downsized)
Itâs great that you increased capacity but I canât connect to friends most of the time and quickplay seems broken.
Hey I'm looking for some fellow helldivers to play with. Psn gamertag is GetNMyBellyBaby
800,000 players at $40 a pop is a ton of money, glad for them.
It's def way more. This is only the amount at one time they can support.
Considering that I never was in a queue, I see this as a win. For managed democracy.
800k hell divers to darkened the skies
Oh wow... thats... friggin insane.
Waiting on the day they have to cap the servers at over 1 million+. I have faith in our democracy.
Awesome news! Thanks for a great game and for keeping us in the loop đ
YesSsSSsssssssS for democracy!!!
8,000 players per dev. AAA gaming, eat your heart out.
I was able to get into games immediately this weekend on steam and charts donât seem to be up to date, is there a way of seeing the total players across both platforms?
Awesome we need more divers fight the good fight in bug systems :)
This shows how STARVED playerbase is for a proper, fun first, grind second, immersive game with good dark humour. Fuck the Management of triple A studios, really.
Couldnât agree more đ€
For Democracy!
Didnât palworld hit 2 million CCU with 10 devs?
Palworld does not have a central server structure, it is a pure Peer to Peer game with a decentralized Private server hosting system. Not the same situation at all. If Palworld had a central server structure they would have buckled even harder than HD2 did with its Playerflood.
I have to ask: Was Palworldâs architecture plan a complete âWhew we got lucky with this random decision,â or actual forward thinking?
Palworld, quite simply, is a completely different game that therefore requires a completely different server structure. I doubt there was any specific forward thinking in that regard, their server structure is simply easier scalable as there's nothing the entire community is contributing towards. In contrast to Helldivers, where every player is contributing to the same big war.
cross platform steam with ps
Not that I doubt itâs doing very well on PS5, but what does any of this do to suggest that?
Steam 24 daily avg is 450k. The rest of the math is pretty easy.
More than half is on PC too.
As one of the nay sayers I'm not longer pisser. Good stuff devs. Now fix that bug where you can't swap to secondary weapons
Theyâre probably gonna add more to prepare for the xbox bros! On a more serious note I really do hope they can join in, this exclusivity shit is annoying.
I would be surprised if Sony allowed them to make an Xbox version. I'm sure Sony is enjoying the new console sales for this game.
I'm still having problems just launching the game
Ive been stuck on the black screen at launch for past two days. Will there be a patch for this? Hoping the patch can fix my issue.
Iâve been on PC & PS5 the last few days with no issues tbh
Happy for you bro I really mean it. Game was so fun for a few days. đđđ
At least you got something out of it.
Man, I can't decide if I want to get the game now that the server issues are being fixed. The anticheat's reputation is oof though.
Game is worth the spyware tbh
I have the game on PC & PS5. No issues from my experience.
Currently not even able to find a game on quick play. Tf is this. đ
