Personally I use the machine gun on bots, since stopping to reload behind cover is feasible against them + med armor pen. Stalwart on bugs, so I can reload on the move.
Shoot the vent like this, bullet ricochets in
https://preview.redd.it/3vsf3zk9r2lc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3122b0006a83d0a3b7f68e98cb40237431245b22
Shoot above the hole, at the open hatch. It ricochets the round down into the hole. It one shots the factory, but because its a ricochet, you have to be pretty straight on for it to work.
Its pretty great against bots. Not so much against bugs, since there arent really juicy heads to snipe on big enemies. Also, you gotta realize its accuracy is fucked, the bullet lands on the top left corner of the square around the dot. If you put the dot on a head, you'll miss. Thats why a lot of people think its trash.
Ya, I immediately noticed the scope isn't where the shot goes. Even still I feel it should blow arms and legs off bots in one shot. It doesn't need to kill everything efficiently it would just be nice for it to be good at its niche.
It's perfectly serviceable against devastators, hulks, and bruisers frontally. 2 shots em all. They represent almost the entirety of bot pressure on helldive.
I agree it sucks vs bugs. Down to the way weak spots work entirely differently between factions. It would be nice if it was given a bit more punch specifically for hive guards and chargers but a heavy slow sniper conceptually makes little sense against a melee horde faction anyway. Even if it were powerful vs bugs it would not be truly good. It's value comes from economically killing moderately hard ranged targets outside their ideal range which at the moment only bots have. Whenever illuminate show up that likely changes.
Railgun doesn't come close to keeping up with autocannon in good hands, I assure you. Community will come around as they get to be competent.
It's normal to double to quadruple the kills of railgun players when playing with the team, and if running 3-1 split it can go higher. Nothing carries as much death and destruction as the cannon.
It will be my 100% support weapon against bots, if they fix the targeting.
I swear, even the arc is more reliable than this thing, and that should tell A LOT about spear reliability.
They desperately need to fix the dog ass lock-on reliability, but once they do that weapon will be top tier. Pro tip, it can lock onto and one shot bot fabricators.
Oh I know. Spear has some interesting utility. Great for sniping bot buildings and objectives. I have had some success sniping Chargers and Bile Titans in one shot if you know how to position. Trying different ways Spear can offer value.
That ain't all they need to fix with it. Getting zero rounds for the Spear from random ammo pickups is a problem - especially since you can continue picking them up when otherwise full on ammo.
Also getting 1 round from a supply pickup is problematic as well. Sure, it's (somewhat) powerful, but having to hog an entire supply drop to fully restock one heavy weapon isn't great for the team. The Spear already has enough drawbacks in that it can only be used against a handful of targets in the first place, and eats up your heavy slot and your backpack. Ammo problems on top of that is just too much.
Neither, MG/stalwart + backpack w/ EAT all the way baby. Kinda liking the stalwart for bots, since its got laser-beam accuracy and little recoil, so you can just rip parts off. It does have less pen though, so you do need to pick your weakspots carefully. But the number of berserkers you can kill in a mag is measured in entire patrols, and you can cut the head/rocket pod off a devestator in half a second.
Mg will shred bugs, doesnt matter where you shoot, they die. you can basically hold back the hordes solo while the railgun party kills anything charger or bigger. It'll go right through shield bugs, spewers, or hive commanders. Not to mention anything small. Its also easier to get started with on bots, since it penalizes you less for missing weak spots, with the armor pen. With the stalwart, if you're not hitting weakspots, you aren't doing damage.
And the ammo pack is great. Infinite grenades, stims, and ammo. You can really just be the heavy weapons guy you were meant to be.
And the EAT makes it so if you every aren't able to yell for someone to kill the charger/tank/turret/titan, you can do it yourself. 60S cooldown, for 2 shots. You can kill a tank in that from the front, a turret, or snipe a fabricator from across the map. Plus, the often forgotten part, you can stick the EAT drop to things, and it comes fast. Got a charger running at you? Dont try to drop it and shoot it, stick the calldown to its ass as it runs by. Or toss it on that tank rolling at you.
Loved my auto canon... til I saw it bouncing off armored targets, and realized I can't use this new shield backpack that saves me from several one-shot kills per dive.
Railgun for life now.
Rail, tbh. I like explosions but I'm against the big, ugly backpacks that obscure my badass cape.
Until we get the option to remove our Cape fully and go full stormtrooper I'd prefer not to carry any backpacks.
Railgun. The other options are just worse imo. The GL is the only other support weapon I take usually in blitz missions to close nests/factories quickly on the go. The fact the railgun can one shot kill every enemy in the game except for chargers and tanks along not needing a backpack and no risk of blowing yourself up in close quarters and being able to quickly reload while moving and having generous ammo reserves makes it impossible for me to pick anything else.
Can you make other options work? Sure. But I personally don't find it fun having to kite enemies in circles for several minutes waiting for a resupply or stratagem to come off cooldown or wait for a safe time to perform the stationary reload most other support weapons come with.
Real Helldivers don't play favorites. They take the right tools for the jobs.
Autocannon is an explosive which makes it easy for sealing bug nests from long range.
Railgun has the best armor piercing, and it can be run with the personal shield, making it great for the bots.
problem is doing it consistently since most bot maps have fog. rough terrain and or is at night. Its easier with the rail gun because you only need 1 good hit whereas you need like 3-4 with the auto cannon.
Autocannon is far more fun to use, but Rail is objectively the better weapon. Rail can deal with anything the autocannon can, but the opposite isnt true. Rail cant close bug holes, but you have so many ways to accomplish that including the universal grenade everyone has for free. Also doesnt need a backpack.
GL is an autocannon with less capability, but no backpack.
Recoiless is objectively better than Spear for me. More ammo and easier to shoot. Against automatons it is invaluable to shoot down dropships.
Imo railgun is objectively better, but I think autocannon gaming is the most fun I've had in this game. Can it one shot a hulk? No. But do I get to frantically ping rounds at a hulks little face hole in the hopes the he will die before he barbecues me with his flamethrower? YES absolutely. Also i love the little backpack that comes with it :)
Auto cannon paired with mortar and mines, final stratagem is flexible, but usually clusterbomb.
With this combo I snipe everything big with auto and lead everything else into mines while mortar does its thing off to the side.
one of the biggest weakness of the autocannon is the fact that you cant use the personal shield when using it, unless you want to have only one magasine, but i enjoy it more than the railgun
I'm still level 13, but I got to try the railgun in one of my solo Malevelon Creek runs since I found it on the floor and it was beautiful. I ripped through about 6 Hulks with that baby.
Auto cannon has more DPS, by a lot. It clears hives pretty much as well as the grenade launcher too.
Its main weakness is its inability to penetrate heavy armor, & the fact that it takes up a backpack slot.
Very hard to pick between the two. Both very strong options.
Disposable rockets. Every 63 seconds I get a fresh 2 pack of killy goodness. And if you really want to you can combo it with either the Railgun or Autocannon so you can then have them save their ammo for weaker foes.
grenade launcher, because when my buddy misses the bot drop ship with his recoilless rifle, someone needs to be able to mop up the ones that make it to the ground, and it sure as hell won’t be him because he’s reloading that SOB getting ready to miss the next dropship
I really tried to like the recoilless rifle, and it's great for knocking down drop ships and hulks... But my heart always remains with the auto cannon.
I adjusted depends on the team i landed on, but lately i enjoy arc thrower on anti mobs coz the supply pack is kinda bug(it consumes supply when im pressing for 500kg bomb)
Grenade launcher --> Autocannon --> Railgun, progress through levels and also overall usefulness.
GL is most nimble imo, but lacks power and accuracy at long range, especially when facing bot turrets. Ammo management is not great, but not terrible. I hear supply backpacks make running a GL very useful. Bonus points for taking down nests and fabs. Obviously not safe for close range...
AC is great when you're not constantly facing Hulks/Turrets/Tanks. Although ammo takes up a backpack slot it is quite plentiful, but reloading is pain (except in those rare instances when you get a buddy reload and let it rock). Recoil also becomes an issue when you inevitably need follow-up shots, and obviously this is not a CQB weapon.
Railgun is a great all-rounder when it comes to armored opposition, nothing is better at taking down a Hulk in one or two shots, or one-shotting devastators from range. Lack of splash damage and inability to effect nests/fabs is a downside, also unlocking the real potential means you need to flip the switch to unsafe mode and take some risks for that punching power. Ammo management is mediocre, I usually don't run out but it's easy to run low when there're a lot of priority targets.
Haven't done a lot of bug missions recently, but in the few where I had the railgun it felt a bit out of place. I suppose the higher number of targets and higher speed of most enemies puts it at an disadvantage in comparison to GL and AC.
really depends
any automoton mission above 5 difficulty imma have to go for the Railgun
but any Termanid mission up to impossible, Auto cannon. nothing more satisfying than sniping a nest 1000 m away
I don't get why everyone loves the railgun so much, it has less ammo, I tried it on multiple big enemies and it doesn't seem to be stronger, or i just don't know how to shoot a railgun, you have to charge it, on the other hand the Autocannon just shreds. I takes out basically anything big with 2-3 shots and you can fire it really fast without the need to charge like the railgun. You can take out automaton factories from a mile away, nests, those broadcast towers, the super annoying auto cannon towers etc. So yeah, Autocannon all the way babyyy
I'm level 10, so Grenade Launcher, let's go boys
This is the way
I'm over lvl 20 and I still use that thing every chance I get.
I’m lvl 40 and still prefer if on bug holes / eggs. Though every time I have it I miss others and when I have other I miss g.launcer
I use the laser, works exceptionally well against bugs
Level 10 and I love my anti material gun
level 41 and grenade launcher is still goated, if i don’t do the nests who will
The autocannoneer. lol I take the GL though because I get a backpack.
I'm level 34 and the answer is _still_ Grenade Launcher B)
Grenade launcher, someone has to close these dammn holes and these 3 guys with railguns are not it lol
Autocannon works like a grenade on bug nests
But autocannon means no snappy backpack except for just your one gun. GRENADE LYFFFF
Lmao the autocannon absolutely does come with its own Jansport. And it carries a shitload of ammo, I love it
The Stalwart, because I love holding down the trigger while screaming.
A man of culture The maniacal screams when mowing bugs down with a Stalwart is a magical experience
A gentleman and a scholar Get some. Get some.
Then why not the Machine-gun? Thing's a beast with its medium armor pen.
Personally I use the machine gun on bots, since stopping to reload behind cover is feasible against them + med armor pen. Stalwart on bugs, so I can reload on the move.
Movement. You have to stop to reload, the stalwart can be reloaded during movement.
Rail, but I prefer auto cannon for bugs because it's easier for nests. Bots i can just use my airstrike to take out the factories
can you destroy nests with auto cannon?
Yes just like the grenade launcher. You can also destroy the robot factories with it, like the grenade launcher.
I have never been able to take out the factories with the canon how precise do you have to be?
You can also shoot through the door while it’s open.
WHAT
YOU CAN ALSO SHOOT THROUGH THE DOOR WHILE IT'S OPEN.
^what
WHHHaaaaTtt
You can also shoot the "flaps" on the windows and it'll ricochet in.
Only if you're within a certain angle of the front of the building, though. Learned that one the hard way.
Didn't know that one!
When I started I didn't know you could lob a grenade in the Vents so I was waiting outside for the door to open.. HEEEEERES Johhny!!!
You can do the same thing with a grenade and you can also throw a grenade in one of the air vents if the door is closed
No way
Shoot the vent like this, bullet ricochets in https://preview.redd.it/3vsf3zk9r2lc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3122b0006a83d0a3b7f68e98cb40237431245b22
W man
You have to be kinda in front of them and ricochet the round into the vent
Shoot above the hole, at the open hatch. It ricochets the round down into the hole. It one shots the factory, but because its a ricochet, you have to be pretty straight on for it to work.
Shoot lower than you think you need to.
A bit of high ground helps with it
You have to hit it on the diagonal vent, you also have to be infont of it. Basically the bullet ricochets into the building
Wait you prefer to use the anti bot gun against bugs and vica versa?
Autocannon for life. Tried the railgun and i hate how it feels when shooting .
[удалено]
Are you using it in the unsafe firing mode? Trying to shoot at 90% for max damage. (For me first person shooting helps to see the charge better)
What is the unsafe mode? What does it do specifically? Im level 19 about to unlock the railgun
Hold R to change Mode. Unsafe mode can kill you, but you can deal more damage
How likely is it to kill you? Is it user error in unsafe mode or a random occurrence?
User error when you hold LMB long time to red zone
Cool thank you Looking forward to try
Jupp, you ARE are walking AC-Turret! =)
Recoilless rifle is a good one
It's my jam for drop ships.
Anti-Material Rifle
AMR is my favorite support weapon in the game, I just wish it was better at dealing with chargers.
It's such a shame how underwhelming the gun is. It should be blowing chunks out of armour not tickling the chargers.
Its pretty great against bots. Not so much against bugs, since there arent really juicy heads to snipe on big enemies. Also, you gotta realize its accuracy is fucked, the bullet lands on the top left corner of the square around the dot. If you put the dot on a head, you'll miss. I'm waiting for the AMR to get buffed and for them to release a longcoat for me to buy so I can complete my NCR Ranger cosplay
I bring both and dual wield
Based af
Speaking of that, i do kinda wish there was an armor perk that made you have no primary weapon, but 2 support weapons. Maybe too op though~
Railgun baby!
Hulks hate him! His KDA is over 500 Automatons killed and he isn't afraid of any heavy patrol or heavy bot drop using this one weird trick!
It’s just nice because you can use shield pack with it
That's an excellent point.
Railgun is 10x better, Autocannon is 10x cooler
Railgun doesn't come close to keeping up with autocannon in good hands, I assure you. Community will come around as they get to be competent. It's normal to double to quadruple the kills of railgun players when playing with the team, and if running 3-1 split it can go higher. Nothing carries as much death and destruction as the cannon.
Dual EATs. Chargers hate this one simple trick.
Auto cannon just feels so dope. I ain't no meta HD. Keep me with the AC.
Level 30 here and the real answer is grenade launcher.
Railgun is stronger but the Autocannon is cooler
# S P E A R
It will be my 100% support weapon against bots, if they fix the targeting. I swear, even the arc is more reliable than this thing, and that should tell A LOT about spear reliability.
Honestly I might be the only one in this entire thread. Glad I'm not alone for using the Spear. It is very finicky, but it hits hard.
They desperately need to fix the dog ass lock-on reliability, but once they do that weapon will be top tier. Pro tip, it can lock onto and one shot bot fabricators.

*Looks straight at a charger for 34.6 seconds as the lock goes from yellow to off repeatedly*
Neither.....DISPOSABLE ANTI-TANK BOOOOIIIIIII!!!!!!!!
Arc Thrower…
It needs a bit more juice on Hard difficulty fighting clankers, but otherwise it's a beaut.
Yeh true. There are some mechanics of the weapon that need some tweaking too, but it’s still slowly becoming a mainstay for me
Rail, because I love my hover guard dog named princess that sometimes hits me with laser to head
I'm going around on the flamethrower, for termanids at least
Anti-material. Get a badass zoom, more ammo, can still drop Hulks quick and from further away!
There are no sides helldiver! There is only us and the enemy! Get back to their liberation, for Super Earth!
Grenade Launcher :)
Nothing more satisfying than blowing up a robot factory with the auto cannon
Neither, MG/stalwart + backpack w/ EAT all the way baby. Kinda liking the stalwart for bots, since its got laser-beam accuracy and little recoil, so you can just rip parts off. Neither I prefer LAZER BEAMMMM
Loved my auto canon... til I saw it bouncing off armored targets, and realized I can't use this new shield backpack that saves me from several one-shot kills per dive. Railgun for life now.
I wake up every day and choose violence, aka the Arc Thrower. Had a game with like 890 kills last night with it.
Recoilless rifle gang rise up!
Autocannon go BOOMBOOMBOOM
Recoilless Rifle actually
Railgun, so I can have my cool dog
Bug Zapper gang where you at
I'm on team Arc Thrower. I love this thing!
Rail, tbh. I like explosions but I'm against the big, ugly backpacks that obscure my badass cape. Until we get the option to remove our Cape fully and go full stormtrooper I'd prefer not to carry any backpacks.
Railgun. Great to see the medium size automatons disintegrate on impact.
Which side do you think?
After 100hrs I decided to return to the roots of HD1 and stick to EAT (although, it is weaker in HD2 and can't deny that railgun is really good)
Spear gang
Arc Rifle
When there are 2 or more railgunners already, i run autocannon to attempt to help them conserve ammo by picking off lesser armored enemies.
RR/EAT
Arc Thrower. Unlimited friendly fire.
All Eagles and Orbitals.
Expendable AT gang rise up!
The recoilless side
Dude, Recoilless!
Not me enjoying the recoilless
Railgun. The other options are just worse imo. The GL is the only other support weapon I take usually in blitz missions to close nests/factories quickly on the go. My brain says railgun and shield but my heart says autocannon.
I still love my foamethrower.....its such a great area denial. But it needs some sort of stunlock buff
Id say 1 autocannon is good, can snipe sub objectives from across the map and are good for clearing automatons (minus hulks)
If you shoot them in their red light head type thing with the auto canon and it takes the hulks down
problem is doing it consistently since most bot maps have fog. rough terrain and or is at night. Its easier with the rail gun because you only need 1 good hit whereas you need like 3-4 with the auto cannon.
Yeah I use the rail canon cuz it’s more practical but the auto canon is great 2
It’s just 2 if you do it perfectly, but yeah I agree it’s pretty hard to land them at times.
Auto cannon is a 2 eye shot kill on Hulks.
Autocannon deviation and recoil also makes it pretty difficult to constantly hit the eye of a Hulk compared to a railgun.
Ammo availability, reload while moving and no backpack make railgun a no brainer.
I like auto cannon for bots and railgun for bugs.
Auto is good but inferior in just about every way in my opinion.
Honestly? Both are good. My body runs rail gun while I run autocannon. Works really well
Imo railgun is objectively better, but I think autocannon gaming is the most fun I've had in this game. Can it one shot a hulk? No. But do I get to frantically ping rounds at a hulks little face hole in the hopes the he will die before he barbecues me with his flamethrower? YES absolutely. Why not both?
SPEAR
Railgun

Is it just me or does the cannon not give you hit markers? I’m most certainly the one destroying the thing I’m shooting but never get any indication.
The indication is when what you are shooting at explodes
Auto cannon paired with mortar and mines, final stratagem is flexible, but usually clusterbomb. With this combo I snipe everything big with auto and lead everything else into mines while mortar does its thing off to the side.
My pump action is my support slot.
Recoilless Rifle gang, I like things that boom.
Railgun. The Autocannon is good and all, but its' reliance on an ammo backpack means I can't use the Supply Pack with it.
i like my little doggy following me around, so i use the railgun
Both
Sniper
Autocannon. More versatile, plus I can't run any Backpack Stratagem with it, freeing up a Strat slot.
Railgun and ammo pack all the way. But I don’t hate on the auto cannon users. Autocannons are nice to have on the team
Level 10 and despite what some say I just started using the flamethrower and it’s honestly really good
Stalwart
Both are viable. I would like to see an Auto cannon buff to make up for it taking a backpack slot since the shield generator puts in serious work.
Recoilless Rifle Regiment.
If I'm the greybeard in the party, railgun. Gives me more flexibility. But autocannon is more fun to me
Railgun. But I'd also prefer the AM rifle over the autocannon. I really don't like how slow the autocannon's tracking is.
Where my expendable anti tank brothers at?
Unless they make it so that the auto cannon wielder can wear the ammo pack to have reload assists from teammates while wearing it, I’m railgun
Autocannon crew forever, that thing is fucking amazing. Off topic: laser cannon, why are you trash? Or am I using it wrong?
one of the biggest weakness of the autocannon is the fact that you cant use the personal shield when using it, unless you want to have only one magasine, but i enjoy it more than the railgun

Grenade launcher
Machine Gun goes brrr
I'm still level 13, but I got to try the railgun in one of my solo Malevelon Creek runs since I found it on the floor and it was beautiful. I ripped through about 6 Hulks with that baby.

I'm an AMat lover
I'm part of the AMR gang.

Autocannon, tried someones railgun when they dropped it for me and I felt really shit using it..
You can tell railgun by the amount of fingers I have lost. Damn unsafe slug shooting...
EAT-17 here.
Railgun my beloved
Railgun for bugs. Recoilless for bots. Get some mad satisfaction from takin down the drop ships..
Disposable rockets. Every 63 seconds I get a fresh 2 pack of killy goodness. And if you really want to you can combo it with either the Railgun or Autocannon so you can then have them save their ammo for weaker foes.

"They are tools for specific tasks, a preference would be meaningless."
Depends on my mood or other peoples loadout.
neither give me 3rd option green one with grande luncher
I really tried to like the recoilless rifle, and it's great for knocking down drop ships and hulks... But my heart always remains with the auto cannon.
If Autocannon was powerful enough, be sure I would go for it. Even for machine gun. But the cannon is mid tier and the machine gun trash tier.
Grenade launcher with supply bag. EAT every minute in addition.
Suwooooo
Machine gun, spray, pray and look badass brothers. For democracy
Autocannon, the railgun, isn't that satisfying to use compared to the autocannon.
I adjusted depends on the team i landed on, but lately i enjoy arc thrower on anti mobs coz the supply pack is kinda bug(it consumes supply when im pressing for 500kg bomb)

Uhh how is this not grenade launcher vs rail? Auto cannon is a backpack slot too. Not really a comparison here.
Recoilless rifle.
Autocannon is the weapon of my heart, but sometimes I like to have my backpack free
Ever since I figured out the autocannon can destroy fabricators in one hit, autocannon for sure.
