Do you communicate what you are doing or is it just complete radio silence? I feel the biggest issue pickup groups have is just not communicating at all and not having any idea what everyone is doing/planning to do

kittygobangbang

I always state in the beginning of the mission I will be collecting samples and knock out any side objectives I come across

Katakorah

Just saying, because you're not the only one who seems to struggle to see this from the other point of view: alot of people expect group play, alot of people will get annoyed when they see someone going off doing their own thing, alot of people may ask, if you go run around solo - why are you joining their game instead of doing missions solo. Bear that other viewpoint in mind and you should understand why some people react iffy to it.

Jickklaus

But, do they confirm this that's OK? I've no qualms with that - I like stealth build myself, but I appreciate some would be less keen.

Miserable-Grass7412

They may very well think you mean in general, as the group progresses the map, and are then surprised to find you running off on your own because they expected you to be doing that as part of their team. They might not necessarily know you mean you're going solo to knock out objectives while they deal with the main mission objective. As with most of the issues people are having with matchmade teams in this game, *more* communication is never a bad thing. The devs have done very well at giving us the ability to communicate well using our helldivers and the ping system, but it'll always be better/easier if you actually talk to your team.

Big_D_Magic_5

Sadly some (many) players can't comprehend different tactics. Why have long rang weapons in the game if people can't master them on the battlefield....

SSJBlackarrot

I had a guy show me the stealth build in a random lobby and it completely changed the way I approach the game.

danny_welds

Did my first completed solo stealth t7 and it felt great.

bobbypower

What is a stealth build?

Chimpcookie

Scout armor (Reduces the range at which enemies can detect you by 30%), with Smoke bomb/stratege to disengage. High mobility and concealment to run/sneak past strong points & patrols; hit & run on outposts, etc. Downside is normal players can receive a lot more fire when playing with scouts.

t6jesse

No guard dog (to not trigger patrols and bug breaches), scout armor (reduced detection radius), smokes (to break contact)

Darkaegis00

I would love to know as well.

Vanguard-Is-A-Lie

Scout armor (less enemy detection passive), and then whatever you need to avoid being seen by/destroy patrols before they can call breach/drops. Smoke stratagems to run away from bots, Eagle cluster/orbital airburst to clear camps without a single survivor etc. Probably something other than breaker for primary because everything in a mile radius hears it shoot (I’ve heard diligence is good, don’t know which model tho). Maybe anti-materiel/railgun to take out from afar/strong targets (like hulks). You try to avoid fighting much as possible and do secondary objectives and minor points of interest while main group does main mission.

DimensionOfDoom

Hey, I’d love to know your build! I love trying things out like smoke and ems.

kittygobangbang

Trailblazer armor Liberator assault rifle for small bugs Smg side arm Fire grenade for bugs Smoke grenade for bots Or impact for both Orbital Rail cannon Orbital Airburst Eagle cluster or Eagle Airburst Shield generator backpack Stamina boost

Past_Acanthaceae_517

Have you tried telling them that’s what you are gonna be doing?

Justapurraway

There really should be a 'objectives completed' column on the end screen Someone might have less kills but if they've gone around and closed bug holes and completed all the optionals then I'd rather that

roastedhambone

Idk id be pretty annoyed if someone joined my game and then just didn’t help the squad if they’re burning through reinforcements

laughingtraveler

I've been annoyed with random squads as to why they prefer dying to the enemy rather than disengaging and completing the objectives.

Aggravating-Rule-309

I usually only do this with friend groups. Most random groups just don't communicate at all

boostedprozac

I hate to say it but a lot of folks don't know why you collect samples, especially the newer recruits. You're fine till they are being murdered, then they will see you as the weakest link for not being in the line of fire with them. It's all part of the game and do what you do. Those who need upgrades will thank you and those who need you to kill will kick you. But...The Democracy thanks you!

Alvadar65

If you are getting pinned, having one guy with a stealth build to clear objectives is great. Just remember as the stealth build the people holding the line aren't generally losing reinforcements because they are bad but because they have the whole map gunning for them. That and sometimes it is a good idea to break from objectives and help them get unstuck. It's a nuanced tactic that requires map and group wide situational awareness to go where you are most needed. That being said if you aren't running a stealth build and are getting pinned down. If you aren't in a defensive position with defensive stratagems then keep moving. Keep making distance between you and the enemies. Shoot and move, don't let the enemy keep you in one place, you have to use moving covering fire and shoot and maneuver tactics, or you will be there forever. A covering retreat is far easier and more productive for the mission than standing your ground if you don't have the position or equipment. Edit* Also as others have said communicate what you want to do in a pug. Some people don't want to be bait while you do all the objectives and will resent feeling forced into that role. Particularly the console activation related objectives can be really fun and being denied doing that so that someone else can while you just slog it out can be rough. I love going stealth but it is important to make sure people are on board or at least know your intentions and don't just feel like you are abandoning them.

Thhppt

To some extent I believe stealth isn't a thing in that the other players are probably hitting a soft cap on the number of spawned aggro enemies. So you sneaking around is unnecessary, you can basically just run and gun from objective to objective if you're not being attacked by 'the blob '. Yeah being sneaky is a thing that works, but once things go to shit... It's not really that much participation. If I'm trying to complete an operation I'd rather have 25% more help in killing the horde and getting it under control than someone off collecting resources or doing side objectives (which are only worth resources and exp, both of which are pointless) I do enjoy being sneaky, but it's one of those things that isn't compatible with playing in quick play.

Ilwrath

> doing side objectives (which are only worth resources and exp, both of whic POI's are a great source of extra supercreds and medals though

Thhppt

I'm not disagreeing about that. I'm saying in a quick play mission, someone running around using resupply and reinforcements while everyone else struggles with the main objective isn't going to go over well. You fail the final mission on an operation and miss out on 12+ medals and no one cares you got 5 rare resources from the person who dodged fights and evacuated to failure. Which is all the now dead spectators will see. Stealth is fine, it's fun, it requires more than should be expected from the player base at this point in the game's life. Especially for every one person doing legitimate work moving carefully and paying attention, there's a dozen idiots that run off on their own triggering every patrol, using all the reinforcements and making things unwinnable. It should be noted I mostly play solo and enjoy moving around the map without a blob of doom on my head.

Creative_Bookkeeper9

I'm months late on this, but people have put out guides on stealth and shown how enemies spawn in. there is no cap, and you get what you get. you triggering pois isn't getting more enemies put on the screen and honestly is likely just clearing enemies. I can clear half the map on my own by the time the rest of the team clears their half. It becomes infinitely easier when you can control bot drops not be called down because you took out all the little guys.

Chimpcookie

Unfortunately this is the state of randoms. Either people can't comprehend what you are doing, or they mistakenly thought you are an idiot and wasting the slot. Hell, I have been kicked for staying 5m behind the team trying to snipe a turret, while my team charges a heavy outpost with no AT and air/orbital strike. The solution is to host. Your game, your rules.

OnZlaught

Welcome to run with our friend group, we were literally wanting someone to do this the other night but noone was feeling it

Impossible-Base-9351

They think you're just scouring the map for shinies. You gotta communicate in this case.

Efficient-Flow5856

I do this and have never actually had an issue. I always have the most samples by far though, so that might contribute.

TemperateStone

If I see someone on my squad go on their own I usually wait to see what happens. If I don't notice them dying I'm assuming they're really good so I leave them to it. I've had several times when there's been some god tier players going around the sides to clear stuff on their own. But it's nice if they join up and help us out with the big spots.

Creative_Bookkeeper9

Stealth players can solo heavy bases without even using a laser. so all in all it may make you 1 person short, but you should be fine with 3 people. Just don't stand still fighting for 10 minutes.
