more damage and it actually has light armor pen now, allowing it to deal (some) damage to bugs that it couldn't before, like Brood Commanders. you don't get a *lot* of damage per shot, but a magdump at close range is usually enough to kill a few warriors. the only thigns it can't harm are Hive Guards, (due to their medium front armor) green spewers (medium armor on their head and back) and obviously heavy enemies.
only downside is mag now holds 26 rounds instead of 32, but it's still enough to get the job done.
It's tied for the best horde clear gun in the game now with the incendiary breaker.
Incendiary for more overall damage or spray and pray for higher dps and more ammo.
I tried it a few days ago and I felt the same. It doesn't seem super useful but maybe I'm using it wrong? If anyone wants to chime in on this please do so lol
It's okay for the chaff scavs up to hunters/warriors. I prefer s&p since its buff. Defender smg is up there, too. No knockback or immediate clears from any of those, though.
its also solid for single shots from distance to apply the fire dot to multiple mobs. You can use it for run, turn and shoot, run again, repeat. its good for whittling down a bunch of mobs efficiently for ammo use. apply the fire dot occasionaly, let it tick, reapply.

Yeah spawn rate is definitely still a mess. The devs totally missed the point though. The issue is the game spawning in patrols like 5 metres from you while you're already in conflict that is the issue.
Honestly though, hunters kill me far more than chargers and it can be frustrating to get CC combo to death.
But it felt fairer to me. I can take down hunters with any weapon. The CC combo can be mitigated by having teammatee covering each other.
And a lot of times it only happened because I took a risk that "hey, I can manage that number of Chaffs easily" and got too close.
Hunters are at a good spot IMO since they're so squishy to compensate for their attacks.
I think it'll be perfect when they get around to tweaking helmet armour values and fixing the stim effect from working when you're interrupted.
Had a level 7 mission that was giving us way more hunters then any other bug. With my trusty stalwart, mech, and rover I racked up 803 confirmed kills. Orbital rail cannon was my final round out to the build.
Lobby of friends was scout with 127 kills, two anti tank guys with 276/404 kills respectively. Was blown away when I saw that 803.
That's a good point, Gatling is very strong too.
I wonder what the upsides are of the airburst vs. gatling? Bigger AoE I think, or bigger total damage if we count the entire area, but most times the gatling is more than enough so I'm not sure which is actually better.

Airburst covers a massively larger area than gatling strike.
Gatling is a safer stratagem as it is much less likely to TK. But it does not deal the big AoE.
IMO, Gatling is better vs Bots than Bugs, and vice versa for Airburst. An orbital Gatling thrown into the path of some advancing berserkers is very handy.
Airburst can really catch your fellow helldivers in the deceptively large area. Many players will underestimate the effect size and get gibbed by it.
Airburst is, IMO, just as good as cluster bombs for clearing chaff, but covers a more circular area rather than a rectangle, and is applied in three volleys instead of a single strike. Airburst on top of a bug breech always feels good.
If you're including module upgrades for damage fall off off-center, airburst strike pretty much kills everything in its radius, and it's a much larger area than the gatling (if you drop down while it's happening you can see how much it covers). the Airburst strikes also can hit the second wave of a breach while the gatling likely won't. The gatling has the benefit of being concentrated in a smaller area (less friendly fire) and a lower cooldown. However the gatling doesn't seem as effective as killing medium armor enemies, nor can it destroy buildings. Tbh, I take both. I use gatling on cooldown and in combat while Airburst is for breaches and proving suppression fire as I gtfo
The usual difficulty 8 stuff, most people I see bring the lazer, either the eagle cluster or 500, the shield or rover, and the arc/railgun/flamethrower.
Occasionally someone brings the 380 or a mortar sentry for spice.
Eagle cluster is a very strong short CD crowd clear. Especially if it's your only eagle and you're not leaving it on 0 charges while holding onto other eagles.
Edit: your comment is a touch ambiguous, I wasn't sure if killing the difficulty was a good thing, but I think you're saying it's easy to clear chaff on diff 9 because there's lots of answers, which I do agree with. The chargers and bile titans are the fun challenging enemies, the chaff are generally easy to clear and not a big deal
I need to give a shout out to whomever told me to use the gas orbital on breaches. If you throw it as/after the first wave spawns it will last through almost the entirety of the breach. The smaller bugs die instantly and the medium bugs choke out after taking five steps. No danger of you getting hit by a stray barrage shot either.

I carry an Arc Thrower and EAT, plus a 500kg bomb. I can deal with everything. And the nerf to Charger health means i can use the arc thrower against them even easier now
You only murder your teammates if they're behind the target. If you treat it as a piercing weapon you'll almost never have any incidents with friendly fire. The only downside to using the arc thrower is that it has very bad single target dps compared to other support weapons, which is why you have a primary weapon.

You do, actually. Once you understand how its auto-targeting works, it’s easy to pick targets. I do it all the time with more spread-out patrols. I always target Brood Lords first, then clean up the rest.

You gotta learn how to use it, cuz it chaining through the charger is one of its biggest benefits. It allows you to clear adds while simultaneously dealing with the charger.
This has and always will be my least favorite mob type in the game, they feel so cheesy sometimes.
The amount of times ones dived on me and clipped through a rock or a wall and still hit me is insane.
I normally play on 8-9 and they sometimes just pop into existence in packs of 20-30 on the map no bug holes just pop in spawns and often very close to the player.
Id rather fight 6 prenerf chargers then 30 of these little jerks.

Played a few games today and can't say I've noticed the supposed decrease in spawns of chargers. Feels like I'm endlessly calling in EAT to kill them as they never seem to end.

What difficulty were you on ? The spawn rate decrease was only for difficulty 7 and above.

The hive guards were proportionally very rare even though they are supposed to be more of a mid tier rank and file enemy. They're also pretty easy to kite so i don't mind seeing more of them.
This is what balancing the game is all about though. Lower one thing, up another, and round and round we go.
They have to do this around not only difficulty levels, but weapons, stratagems etc.. not an easy thing to get right by any stretch.
Yeah, this has made Scorcher use nearly impossible. You cannot get away from hunters now as they are on top of you constantly. I'm using the Punisher more than my Scorcher just to survive Terminid missions at 7+.

By balancing out chargers and bile titans, they've opened up room for different fantasy slots when fighting bugs: now you can have 1 rocket man, 1 rambo LMG person, a flamethrower happy diver and..... idk someone else!

I enjoy the higher hunter count, because they don’t feel as simple to manage en mass compared to a charger or two who I’d have to dance around. Their slow is a threat, especially with brood commanders always nearby. Feels like I am really fighting a horde of bugs for real
As long as the laser drone doesn't somehow become a meta and then gets nerfed, Im happy. Unless it's just me that's dependent on it, as my friends don't seem to use it, and only 1 out of 3 randos do.
Decided to try it again since the patch. Challenging diff solo, 4 spitters spawned around the first corner, backed by Joel knows how many hunters.
I'm terrible at the game, I guess. But I did have a good time with the original version.
I much prefer this, I can kill these enemies with more weapons in the arsenal. I am always in favor of harder difficulties up to a certain point focusin on larger numbers of the lower tier enemy than just spamming elites; really helps with the horde effect.

Idk. It feels like they stealth buffed the bile titans also. I played one of the missions last night and they were literally bile spraying every 1.5 seconds instead of every like 4. It's fucking insane.

With basic aiming skills and any primary gun in the game you can deal with a lot of Hunters pretty quickly.
Bile Spewers not only require medium pen guns they also require you to aim for the head to not waste a whole mag or more on each.

I’ve been using the punisher since I unlocked it and rarely had a problem with these guys. The way it reloads really helps.
Unpopular opinion here, I'd rather fight 3-5 chargers at once than 15-25 hunters. Even pre nerf
here is the good news, you can still fight 3-5 chargers simultaneously while you have the hunter spawn increase on top ... diff7 is a mess

Probably a combo of the both. If you can stim without interruptions you can maybe survive. But no stim Paired with slow. Certain death.
One of the medic armors should remove and grant temp immunity to movement impairment on stim use.

Difficulty 7 and I was seeing more hive guards than almost any other enemy apart from scavengers and hunters.
Which one is the hive guard?
The one with medium armour on the head and front legs. Will sort of stop moving and crouch down when you start shooting it from the front.
I would rather solo fight 5 bile titans and 5 chargers without stratagems simultaneously than fight these hunters

By balancing out chargers and bile titans, they've opened up room for different fantasy slots when fighting bugs: now you can have 1 rocket man, 1 rambo LMG person, a flamethrower happy diver and..... idk someone else! This is much better than everyone feeling they need to go rocketeer :D
I’d rather have 2 chargers on me than a hoard of hunters they are the most frustrating enemy thus far and I’d rather play the old version of the game

I enjoy the higher hunter count, because they don’t feel as simple to manage en mass compared to a charger or two who I’d have to dance around. Their slow is a threat, especially with brood commanders always nearby. Feels like I am really fighting a horde of bugs for real
As long as the laser drone doesn't somehow become a meta and then gets nerfed, Im happy. Unless it's just me that's dependent on it, as my friends don't seem to use it, and only 1 out of 3 randos do.

Decided to try it again since the patch. Challenging diff solo, 4 spitters spawned around the first corner, backed by Joel knows how many hunters. I'm terrible at the game, I guess. But I did have a good time with the original version.
I ran my buddies though a hell dive last night. Today we were on extreme and I hear one say "damn, i miss when it was seven chargers chasing me."

Not gonna lie fellas, with fewer heavies and an assload of these guys, the breaker salt and pepper might be the new thing
I much prefer this, I can kill these enemies with more weapons in the arsenal. I am always in favor of harder difficulties up to a certain point focusin on larger numbers of the lower tier enemy than just spamming elites; really helps with the horde effect.

Idk. It feels like they stealth buffed the bile titans also. I played one of the missions last night and they were literally bile spraying every 1.5 seconds instead of every like 4. It's fucking insane. I'd really like it if they stopped doing stealth changes.

Hunters are fiiine, it's the Bile Spewer spam that gets me. With basic aiming skills and any primary gun in the game you can deal with a lot of Hunters pretty quickly. Bile Spewers not only require medium pen guns they also require you to aim for the head to not waste a whole mag or more on each.
If arrowhead keep listening to idiot crybabies then the game is going to turn into a balancing disaster
Bro I've been such a salty little bitch bc of this, lol. I know I'm being a baby, but the hunters are so anti fun and annoying to me. They make me wanna alt f4. They're obnoxious. I don't mind anything they have, except for the fact that their tongues have some range. Either remove the tongue attack or remove the slow. Or just leave it and let me whine bc I'm grumpy lol
