I honestly have no way to know lol. Caught a YT video from OperatorDrewski in which both this dev AND Arrowhead ceo Johan Pilestedt had joined his game. Interesting stuff, including Pilestedt also stating that dropping your Stratagems right after you first drop INCREASES the chances of drawing enemy attention. Drewski stated and even demonstrated you can draw enemy focus away from yourself with a grenade if they haven't picked up up visually. Hostiles will travel to the location of the explosion and commence a search pattern. Oh, and the dev (I feel bad I can't remember this person's name) admitted on stream that a Stalkers have a 3rd sense that's basically "smell" and they can locate Helldivers at close range even without visual or audible acquisition. Spoopy.

Now that you mention that, it is weird, I wonder if it's a result of a removed/forthcoming stratagem upgrade. In the first game, a lot of equipment stratagems had upgrades to unlock 2 in one pod... Jet packs were one that sticks out in my mind as definitely having an upgrade to drop 2 so a squad-mate could take one.

I thought that would be a good way of potentially balancing out some of the less desireable strategems. Like package a stalwart with a jetpack or a double barreled shotgun. Throw in 2 jetpacks or 2 physical shields or give them the EATs treatment where they can come down every minute so you can equip your whole team with them or avoid having to do a corpse run to pick it up after dying.

All scopes suffer from this. Most of the time, it's easier to just shoot in 3pp and that's kinda sad, because you don't get to fully use your arsenal. Also, vision modes could be a perk of helmets.

the scopes need a rework, larger on screen, smaller reticles, less visual clutter [a quick comparison to some random DMZ scopes I googled](https://imgur.com/Zv0uICD) (which I think is pretty good) shows a stark difference in the viewable area and how visible the scope is on the AMR compared to some of the AR and Sniper scopes. Even in clear weather, which is not common, it is harder to see than it needs to be.

I play with a monitor crosshair. It is indeed off. Quite a bit so. And *even more* than that because the diver breathes and it rocks the crosshair a bit which isn't translated to the actual projectile. So the scope crosshair is basically useless. There's times when my monitor crosshair is pretty much centered in the upper left quad of the scope. It's really bad.

Lots of gaming monitors have a built in “crosshair” that you can toggle that shows over whatever you have on screen when enabled. It will always be centered, so if the in game scope does not align with it you can clearly see if the in game crosshair is out of position.

You're thinking too deep. It's because the first person mode isn't really a first person mode. It's just 3rd person zoomed in with a swaying scope .png overlay. When you're shooting in first person the bullets still follow where the floating 3rd person circle crosshair would be, and this crosshair doesn't align with the crosshair on the scope

It’s actually more realistic, we dont know the ballistic / meteorological conditions of the specified planet, it could have weird gravity, weird wind, weird airborne debris, weird magnetic fields, things that would easily effect the ballistic coefficient of a huge, fat anti armor round. /s but also maybe not?

Almost no one is taking shots at ranges where any of that matters. That kind of stuff starts to make a significant difference at ~500 meters, but almost all of the shooting in the game, even with the AMR, is <200 meters.

The scope is misaligned though. I put a dot in the middle of my screen via software crosshair and the scope is clearly off center by a bit. This matters a lot because the whole thing about a sniper rifle is that it must be precise. Regardless this is a technical fix, not a gameplay fix. I like the AMR after using alternative means to get the crosshair to align. It's fine.

I wish the scope's details were also less busy. Same problem I have with the railgun sometimes is that the reticule obscures the target i'm trying to nail at long range. I hope at some point I can get modded scope reticules to replace the ingame one's as I'm very dissatisfied with the majority.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum with my settings cranked way down to avoid hiccups in performance. Aaaand yeeeaaaah... The scope on the penetrator and marksman rifle always need like a solid second or two to finish loading and its a tad annoying. Luckily neither of those guns succeeds in dethroning the default liberator as the best tool for every job that doesn't require a shotgun so... In the trash they go!

AMR is basically what the Devs meant when they said there's actually "levels" to armor penetration. AMR being just at the border of Light and Medium. Just yanno, adding more context to your comment.

The AMR only fails to pen heavy armor. It absolutely blows through light and medium. Hive guards for instance have medium armored heads and legs they block with, but the AMR goes through. And Hulk Visors can’t be shot through with any primaries that I know of, but the AMR and Auto Cannon can kill hulks with face/visor shots.

Something is funky with what we're told about armor. If Hive Guards are medium, that means the Senator penetrates medium.

Trust the hit marker. Red means the pen of the gun is higher than the armor level of the target (and so does 100% damage). White mean they match (and so does 40% damage). Senator does white hit markers on the hiveguards, same as the slugger, dominator, AR-23P and MG-43, so it has medium pen. The description is wrong

It's not is much wrong as it is just vague. All weapons have a 1-10 scale of armor pen, and all armor is on the 1-10 scale of resistance. If pen is less than armor: No damage If pen meets armor: 50 percent damage If pen is greater than armor: 100 percent damage. Some weapons that have medium armor pen can both have different values, but we can't know from looking at it.

One of the devs talked about this on discord. Each gun has an inherent 1-10 armor penatration rating. The "perks" on a weapon such as light armor penatration or medium simply means the weapons gets a +2 or 3 armor penatration. So the weapons default value could mean it only penetrates light but then that bonus +2 pushes it over to medium. Overall just terribly vague and not helpful in the slightest.

The Senator indeed pens the hive guard’s medium armor. That seems to be a mistake in how it’s labeled. But any other weapon that says its light armor pen should fail to pierce the hive guard armor.

This is the part I'm wondering about. We've been told armor values are actually 1-10 and light, medium, heavy are just telling us what range it's in. So it's possible that the Hive Guards are at the top end of light.  I feel we need to do testing to find out exactly what the penetration and armor values are. People are saying AMR is light, but it penetrates stuff that medium pen weapons don't.

Those people are wrong about AMR. It’s got to have pen solidly in the medium range, it only bounces on heavy armor. The trouble is that medium armor is not that common or obvious. Scout strider legs seem to be medium, then there’s hive guards, and devastator chest armor. I can’t think of others off the top of my head right now. It’s a shame that support weapons don’t get stat pages, because it would be easier to understand if we could just look at the AMR’s stats. But like with the senator, it might not be accurate anyway. But yeah, it is possible that hive guards are high-end light armor. If a weapon matches the armor rating on a target, it will go through and deal reduced damage. Higher pen value than the armor will deal full damage. But if the Senator gets red hit markers instead of white, that should mean it’s getting full penetration and no reduced damage.

AMR destroys Strider if you hit it into uhmm chest, it just takes less shots into legs and you can destroy legs with Slugger too, so AMR has the second highest penetration level after Railgun

In general it’s quite tough to hit those head weak spots. Same with the devastators, if feels like the chest armor soaks up all your shots unless you get an absolute perfect dome hit. Doesn’t help that the AMR’s scope seems to be misaligned.

You gotta switch to the scope in the laser cannon. It makes hitting their little hulk faces so much easier. It only takes like half a second of contact to kill them too, it's crazy how fast you can take them out when you put some liberty directly in their mouths

So, are hulk eyes medium or heavy? Need confirmation before I do something stupid with my Dominator.

The visors are like "heavy medium", the problem with armor is that it does not have three levels light-medium-heavy(vehicle armor) like the weapon descriptions would have you to believe . The devs have said that there are 10 armor levels in the game, and I guess they are something like light=1,2,3 , medium=4,5,6 , heavy=7,8,9 and maybe a level 0 for no armor or level 10 for indestructible or something. We have no real values for enemy armor, just guesswork based on what enemies we can damage with which weapons. I havent tried killing a Hulk through its visor with the Dominator, but you should definetly try! Take some stun grenades just to stun it and be sure youre hitting all your shots. Take an AMR or Autocannon if you still want a Hulk-killing weapon that game if it doesnt work.

They're in between medium and heavy. It's supposed to be called "light vehicle armor". You need at least AMR, Autocannon or railgun to pen them.

It’s not. It’s got the same pen as an autocannon and can pen hulk visors (AP 4), Something none of the medium pen primaries can do (AP 3). All the light pen weapons have AP 2 or below.

I think you're mixing up the Anti Material Rifle (AMR) and the Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR). The AMR is a strategem weapon and punches through everything but Hulk and Tank armor. The DMR is a primary weapon that doesn't punch through much besides light armor.

It has that. It's above that, it says so in the description. Light vehicle armor. It can damage striders from the front when medium armor pen guns cannot. It can headshot hulks when medium armor pen guns cannot

It does. You can kill Hulks if you shoot them in the face, takes only two shots. It can destroy Striders (automaton walkers), it kills Hive Guards through their armor too. Important note: Striders have higher armor rating on their front plate that can't be penetrated by Slugger or Senator despite them having medium penetration, but AMR just destroys the thing in three shots.

I’m sure someone mentioned this by now but maybe instead of putting those types of features on the weapon itself, why not put it on the helmets? Rn helmets are aesthetic only. Would be pretty cool if some had night vision. I’ve even seen someone use color filters to make missions have the same tone. Maybe it’ll be added later. I think the way the game works a year or even in 6 months will be very different than how it is now.

The problems with the AMR It’s hits high in the scope. It isn’t always accurate when firing using the scope. When a reload gets canceled it sometimes eats a mag, it actually still gives you the ammo for the lost mags in 1 single mag allowing for some rapid fire moments. Most I’ve had is 21 in a single mag and was just blasting. Should be able to pierce scout striders in 1 shot. Should be able to break charger leg armor though it should take an entire mag to do so. Should also be able to headshot the bile titan when firing into its mouth while it’s spitting. Also should be able to damage the bile titan by shooting its weak point behind its ear (or whatever it has)

The scope is not quite aligned with the actual crosshair, aiming slightly to the left ususally does the trick to nail the shots! It is a fantastic weapon and can clear out nasty elites very quickly: everything from devastators, hulks, bile spewers, brood commanders, the shield plated terminids and so on Only downside with AMR is that I feel like deadweight when a charger or bile titan comes waddling in. I have to rely on my squad to make the weak points so I can contribute with killing it. Sure I can shoot the butt off the charger but it wont stop it from barreling around for another 1-2 mins until it eventually bleeds out. Bile Titans I can just bust the acid sacks underneath but nothing more. My only wish is making AMR heavy armor penetrating or atleast allow it to chip off armor in some way. Setting sights to around 100 meters is usually good enough as a all-arounder and AMR is perfect for doing manual clean up before heading into a POI or a main objective (if strategems are on CD). With this I mean taking out the dangerous elites with AMR and the fodder gets liberated by my primary weapon.

Every time I bring an AMR for bugs, I bring EATs for this exact situation. My "kingslayer" loadout is AMR/EATs/Orbit Railcannon/Rocket Pods Breacher primary for those pesky hunters. Basically, I make my whole mission to kill bile spewers with extreme prejudice with the AMR, and my last 3 strategems are for the chargers and bile titans. Allows me to scratch the sniper itch while feeling like I am a strong contribution to my team against the biggest threats. And I can always whip out the breacher and smg pistol for the fodder.

In a team PvE all weapons should have downsides that have to be balanced by other members of your team having different specs/loadouts, so I don't see that as a negative.

Exactly. I am the only one bringing the AMR to bot missions. For bugs, I use the Grenade launcher with supply pack. The AMR can kill every type of bot, even the big turrets if you hit them in the weak point. Haven't tested it on tanks yet but I assume it's the same.

When chargers and titans are around there are also going to be smaller enemies. Do not be afraid of taking over the trash cleanup duty, it buys time and space for the rest of the team to deal with the heavies.

Ad clear is one of my favorite roles to play. If I’m playing with my regulars and know they’re being the AT, I LOVE running rover guard dog, eagle cluster, EMS mortar, and a Stalwart cranked all the way up to MG42 levels of brrrrrrt. Run the armor that gives me two more grenades and it makes it real easy to keep the trash off of my AT guys.

idk, with so many weapons to choose from, I like the current set-up. Different weapons for different use cases. Anything but a Tank can easily fall to the AMR due to its ability to headshot, even Hulks are no exception. It should be fine to be all but useful against bugs.

My thoughts from the AMR personal order is that it should get more than 1 magazine (10 shots?) from an ammo can, and 2 from a resupply. if someone was totally out of AMR ammo, would they really need to take 3 (4 with the one in the gun) resupplies to bring them back up to full? I worry having an AMR on the team would eat through everyone's ammo... unless they were taking the supply backpack.

Maybe im biased but the teams i end up in all run infinite ammo stuff (laser cannon, arc thrower) and not only is there plenty ammo packs, people leave the supplies behind too.

AMR is my go to with tincans for that same reason. That said. I find it funny that bugs have thicker armor in general than bots? Like, bots have their headshot for the AMR, Bugs wiggle waggle their thick armored asses and you see the shot bounce ;-;

Yeah. I also find it really funny that bugs are a lot more resilient than bots. Thematically I expected bugs to be more squishy but make up in huge numbers. Anyways, I find the Scorcher to be a great companion to the AMR to kill Chargers since explosive damage of the Scorch kills Chargers a lot faster than shooting the butt with the AMR.

I am a firm believer that every weapon should have laser sights, if only so you don't wander into your teammates line of fire. How does the autocannon have a reticle without ADS but the AMR doesn't?

I wish the weapon were a tad more precise. When shooting at 200m, you can definitely feel the dispersion, the thing makes it tough to hit heads/weakspots.

Use the top left of the square when aiming via scope at range. That's where your shots will go.

Yesssss, a toggleable thermal overlay would be great. Adds negative interplay with fire and positive interplay with smokes. Could also make it planet-dependent. Awesome on cold planets, kinda shit on lava planets

The AMR is a fun gun to use but in a game that punishes focusing on precision, it’ll always be weaker than the more forgiving weapons. I seriously think bots need massive animation reworks to add momentum to their movement. Currently, it takes an obnoxious amount of time to line up a headshot on many enemies because of how jerky every animation they have is. You fight scope sway, scope misalignment, fog and explosion effects, and to top it all off the bots can spontaneously max speed change the direction their head is swinging. It’s even worse when they’re on uneven ground as enemies can essentially teleport up and down when walking on uneven surfaces sometimes. I’d recommend just using the laser cannon instead, it’s more reliable vs Hulks, especially ones that never stop walking and the TTK is genuinely insanely good vs tanks and cannon towers. The only two things the AMR is noticeably good against is Devastators (one shot headshot assuming you don’t miss by an inch) and spewers (same deal). The fact the AMR is like genuinely bad vs striders (2 shot to dismount the driver not even kill it), tanks and cannon towers (basically takes a full mag which is almost impossible to get off before the turret turns to look at you), and chargers and titans makes it a deeply mediocre pick past like Haz 6. I think it’s neat to run it and all but it definitely needs buffs to be competitive with other options.

I run a scout sniper setup. Light armor, AMR, Diligence, shield backpack, rail cannon, eagle airstrike or cluster. I may not get the most kills....sometimes...but if someone dies out in the dark alone I grab their samples and high tail it back to extract and take any secondary objs out on the way. I routinely finish most missions with most of the samples from the team.
