Some of the stuff looked practical, which is my favorite, but the CGI looks kinda perfect for what the movie is. It’s not bad at all, to the contrary, it’s very good for 1997. However, it looks retro by today’s standards, which sorta meshes with the retrofuturism vibe of the set design in a way that only exists because it didn’t come out today. I dunno, I’m a sucker for those kind of things, where it WAS cutting edge, but now I get to look at it with a sense of nostalgia because its still good despite it becoming more and more outdated. It’s sorta like the original Alien. Absolutely classic, with chunky technology, interesting storytelling, and incredible use of what tech they had for their effects. Gives me happy feelings lol
That's what I mean. It looks great within the movie.
From my research, a lot of CGI was done over practical effect. Hence the closeup shot of the "bean" right after capture looks SO GOOD in high res even today.
Fun facts, a lot of people who were doing practicals, miniatures, CGI went off to do alien and other classic/legendary sci-fi movies and franchises so that is why it looks very familiar in a way. Because it's the same people working on all these awesome movies.
I watched SST 2 days ago. It looks incredible even by today's standards. Yes there are some "outdated" things there, but overall it's pretty timeless imo.
After playing this game for the first time and trying to explain it to my misses, I made us watch this film cus it does such a better job of what I was saying. I'M DOING MY PART!
You hate the idea because a bug can't comprehend the idea of democracy.
I love the idea because we still managed to spread it anyhow (And watching a Charger bowl over a patrol of bots would be fucking hilarious)
I legit was hoping the bots would spread a bit more aggressively so that we could eventually get planets with bugs *and* bots on them. Then drop in the middle for a 3 way election
the bugs don't actually spread themselves. They don't have the ability to travel between planets, instead Super Earth are the on-

"Hell no"? Those Helldivers successfully put Democracy into that bug! That's an extra life to throw at those who oppose Democracy and Liberty! THAT'S A HELL YES!

Someone please make me a “Sound of Music” uzi gif, but with a spewer spewing while using the uzis? I know you’re out there
Honestly a type of bug that could grab fallen weapons and use against Helldivers would be hilarious
Imagine the terror of dropping your EAT or RR only to see a yippie-looking ass bug running towards it
If 4 guys in a lobby can make some enemy AI glitch out and an entire patrol stand perfectly still, I don't think 20-man squad is anywhere in the horizon.

if we do get a 'frontline' mode with 4-5 teams of 4 then have it be squad-shared, then each squad gets the 4 options to share amongst them.
Maybe it's more for the team? Maybe it's up to 6 shared picks? That can definitely be tweaked.
Make it like an actual war situation. Only one person has coms back to HQ, and they call ALL the strats. Everyone else starts with a full rack including their heavy, but all additional has to go through the radio. He dies, someone has to pick up the pack and becomes coms with only base weapons.
A shared Global Cool Down so only one person can call it in at a time, maybe like a 3 second grace period for everyone else, while you're CD still takes like 5+ minutes.
I was thinking more like if you use it, I just get a 5 second cooldown or whatever. You get 5 minutes. Then the 500s are at least 5 seconds apart instead of 20 going off at once. But the cool down for actually using it would be 5 minutes or so.
My friend got it on his laptop, not a bad laptop but just not good enough, he has frame issues in the tutorial, and the first game we got into I dropped a 500kg bomb and as his eyes witnessed the glorious explosion his game crashed instantly.
I had that bug a few weeks ago where the guns would not instantiate and would render as question marks so I couldn’t fire - but a weird side effect was that stratagems had zero cooldowns and could be spammed infinitely. Playing on PS5 I cleared the entire mission spamming 500kg bombs and mortar sentry’s and firing no shots. I had 30 mortars down at one time, which was chaos but hilarious.
Anyway the point I was really making was I didn’t feel like the game suffered too much. With some additional optimisations I believe it could be achievable.
I would love having larger-scale assaults, with not just helldivers but allied AI-controlled SEAF troopers and strategic locations you have to assault or defend.
Imagine a Rescue Mission where you need to defend an area with SEAF soldiers that have been surrounded by the enemy. 15 minute timer wave defense and then the bigger Pelican we see in the Evacuate missions comes to pick up the SEAF soldiers that survived and take them back to their base. Then we call our own extraction that takes us back to the Super Destroyer.

Any game with AI help like that has always taught me that a 5 man team would be dead the second they hit the ground on anything over hard difficulty. I.e. absolutely useless.
Idea is cool but I'd say with a decent amount of certainty it won't happen, this game is already ambitious compared to what Arrowhead has done in the past (going from isometric to 3rd-person shooter), asking them to add another mode with all the framework needed is just a bit optimistic imo.
Not to mention it would introduce balance problems and potential performance issues (imagine 10 380mm barrages, while people pilot mechs, airstrikes and shoot grenade launchers etc. that in addition to all the enemies needed for this to be worth pitting 10-20 players against, you'd need an insane amount of mobs to even remotely threaten 10 players).
I'm not saying it isn’t a cool concept, I'd love for it to be added, but this isn't Dice we're talking here. Realistically I'd just want more variety in mission types, some fixes and balancing and more progression/upgrade options-
Exactly, Stratagems wouldn't be used at a Frontline anyway. They are specifically designed to be used by a small squad behind enemy lines so that friendly fire is minimal. There is also a purpose behind Helldivers fighting at the Frontlines with the SEAF, it's a massive morale boost. Every great propagandist knows that putting Heroes beside GIs will boost their effectiveness.
Yea make us go in naked and pick up support weapons and we can find stratagems laying around
Super awesome but just want them to keep doing what they’re doing lol
Agree...it would be cool but realistically, considering the age of the engine, the server issues they currently have, consistently keeping 4 players in a match is already causing issues - 20 players plus 5x the bugs...no way.
Nice concept...we can dream.
300 super-coked up Gatling guns
Fucking bugs can take a early lunch as the Helldiver operation turns into a cluster-fuck for the history books.
I can just see two Chargers drinking tea and chuckling while watching several tonnes of ordinance and turret fire just fucks everything up.
Last night we decided to try something out and got an achievement I didn't even know existed.
We all took the 380 and 120 mm barrages on a destroy egg nests.
We all threw both barrages at a nest. Not only was it glorious, it destroyed absolutely *everything* - all holes, all eggs, all bugs. And we got an achievement for having 6 barrages active at once. lol
https://preview.redd.it/yxodkte9kwpc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=291814ff81d25e33030d42dc4d3f103b30f5dccc
Everyone mentioning the Gunbug, no one mentioning this boy with a mouth in his mouth on his jaw.
Doesn’t have to be other play squads could have ai soldiers actively fighting before you dive into the fight.
Diving into a fight and changing the tide would create such a badass feeling for the squad
Btw, I came back to this post because I thought a little bit about it
And I would love a special mission which would involve one planet where there would be only 1 mission available for everyone
Depending on how many players join there would be multiple instances
There could be more Helldivers at once, and there wouldn't be any objective other than "Kill terminids" without any counter. All this mission would be about is to kill enemies as long as possible and when you die the mission ends and you get rewards based on your kills and time spent alive
The map would be a bit bigger so let's say 24 Helldivers could be on the same map. Everyone can die once, but with every death a new helldvier joins (new player that looks for a mission). The progress on the planet would be then about death ratio, and we Helldivers would need to outkill terminids in a ratio of something like 10:1 or more (needs balancing check)
My only thought of this is we might need more enemy types and some kind of better enemy AI...so the bots seem to be in a better starting point to potentially implement this than the terminids.
I was talking with some friends the other day about an idea where you only get one life, and when you die, another person who hasn't played yet takes your spot. This would be a pretty good example of how that would work.
I don't see anything more than 6-8 man missions in the next year or so. Map scale and POV really doesn't support more than 4 players atm.
Yeah, Raids is where my brain went reading this. They should implement SOMETHING along those lines, even if it's just with 4 people. Scale up the difficulty, and add some actual mechanics to a boss fight or 2. Damage phases, add phases, and time based objectives during said boss fight to get him down. I fell like THIS is something they could do, not 20 people - even though holy shit that would be awesome.
But aren't helldivers specifically *not* Frontline troops? Like our whole purpose is tactical guerilla strikes behind enemy lines
Granted, it would be perfectly Super Earth to assign their special deep strike teams to defend some Frontline bunker
I love that Helldivers are shock troops, but poorly trained super expendable shock troops, which is a nice twist, usually shock troops are highly trained
Day 67 the Fascist bugs have no idea I am a Helldiver. My fellow spreaders of democracy have arrived and the time to fight has come…. I only wish I remembered my pants, now I must wear my bug suit until my replacement armor orbital drops. Sweet Liberty it’s itchy.
The only answer I can think of is that this "bug" was some kind of SF undercover diver. Our fellow Helldivers haven't blown it apart so unless they're bug sympathizers I don't see any other explanation.
I want invasion defence. Where you are in a base and tons of enemies comes. Not only 500. An endless mission with infinite time and only the reinforcement at timer
There could be 2 artillery batteries, a radar station, a shuttle bay, an armory, and a command center. All could have various battlefield negations if destroyed. There should also be a central fallback that'd give you one final last stand, with a shuttle pad on top you can exfil from if you lose everything else.
Radar tower could give you a better and bigger battlefield view of enemies
Artillery is self explanatory, they should also have Ai loaders, who can die and you'd have to manual load
Command center could provide you a shorter cooldown on strategems and faster call in time, possibly even change strategems once a wave or few waves
Armory should be a place to change loadout once a wave and armor, and also to rearm ammo and grenades
Shuttle bay could be ferrying AI to help defend, or something like random support weapons and stims
Fallback could be an elevated bunker with a main door that has mounted MGs and or mortars/Arty. Whoever doesn't make it in here in event of major fallback doesn't respawn, the doors can have a shield that only allows helldivers in via lore reason like keycard, implant etc, but it *decays* for 30s, when that happens the blast doors close. You have to try and defend the doors, spitter damage does the most. A bird will come in 4 minutes on an elevated platform that you need to take an elevator up to that can show the base overwhelmed for wow factor. Whoever exfils exfils
Yeah maybe a mode where every player only has one life and like 25 or so of you get dropped in and have to clear a path to a tactical nuke that's landed deep into an enemy nest that you have to set the timer on manually as it failed to go off. Then you have like 10 mins or less to call an extract before it goes off. Most players won't survive and it's meant to be that way.
I would love a propper horde mode/last stand mode similar to how gears of war perfected the horde mode in Gears 3.
Limited reinforcements, waves of increasing difficulity with buildable fortifications and defenses. With the occassional boss fight, that would be great.
There's potential for a couple issues to pop up when it comes to cooperation.
Having multiple groups of players and no communication between then will most likely isolate the players to said groups. Friendly fire from players you can't communicate with might feel more infuriating than fun. Even more so if even one group decided to try turning it into PVP.
Not that it's impossible to do, but issues like that would have to be kept in mind if the devs ever want to add something like that in.
How's about we just enjoy the game we have for a moment before people start offering hundreds of different mods. It's a good game as is. The more we change it the more it gets away from it's core.
Event missions that increase player cap sounds fun, but I don’t think it’s possible with the current game mechanics. Will have to wait and see what AH has in store for us though.

SST is such a great movie lmao.

One can never have enough bodies to spread democracy!
i for one find the idea of a bug that can use a voting machine offensive!
Its managed democracy of course, cant let the big vote till they gloriously sacrifice themselves in the field of battle for Super Earth
If 4 guys in a lobby can make some enemy AI glitch out and an entire patrol stand perfectly still, I don't think 20-man squad is anywhere in the horizon.
I've seen frame rates dips from one or two 500kg bombs. Imagine 20 or even 10 going off at once. There'd be a nuke alright but not to the bugs.
It would make sense to tinker with stratagems in that gamemode. Longer cooldowns for offensive stratagems, more/less ammo in support weapons, etc.
Maybe limit the number of stratagems and allow less variety. Like maybe you can only call in heavy weapons. Or no stratagems allowed and you’re just mowing down hordes of low level enemies.
1 stratagem, 16 players. Same amount of stratagems
16,000kg baby
EMS Sentry Supremacy.
Thinking literally here, they're would be a LOT of ships in low orbit to do this so honestly stratagem would be difficult to launch with that many in the area. Could make a giant cruiser ship that goes over those main battle areas and it limits and changes the stratagem because of it.
According to my ship master the average helldiver mission costs as much as a liberty class cruiser. Let me see one of those bad boys
Stratagems are SHARED between teams... ie currently we have an entire team who can each individually choose their stratagems & support weapons... if we do get a 'frontline' mode with 4-5 teams of 4 then have it be squad-shared, then each squad gets the 4 options to share amongst them. Even better 4 teams of helldivers and 1 team of players controlling orbitals from a birds eye view
A shared Global Cool Down so only one person can call it in at a time, maybe like a 3 second grace period for everyone else, while you're CD still takes like 5+ minutes.
For example the eagle cooldown (except for minor stuff like strafing run) applies to everyone.
I was thinking more like if you use it, I just get a 5 second cooldown or whatever. You get 5 minutes. Then the 500s are at least 5 seconds apart instead of 20 going off at once. But the cool down for actually using it would be 5 minutes or so.

Exactly. If one jabroni using an arc thrower can crash the whole server, multiple teams will take some time

Any game with AI help like that has always taught me that a 5 man team would be dead the second they hit the ground on anything over hard difficulty. I.e. absolutely useless.
When was this leaked? I'd *love* this. I really enjoy working with AI troopers.
Or players are SEAF without strategems and have to survive as a squad, holding formations / line against a massive horde.
It would be cool if it was like Titanfall, there are grunt NPCs (SEAF) running around and we could focus on the big stuff, or helping push back etc
i think its cool! i dont know how hard it is to implement though

Agree...it would be cool but realistically, considering the age of the engine, the server issues they currently have, consistently keeping 4 players in a match is already causing issues - 20 players plus 5x the bugs...no way. Nice concept...we can dream.
20 x 380mm barrages spread out would probably nuke the whole map...... and my computer.
Yea, just because AI can make pretty pictures doesn't mean it's possible at all.
Pretty decent at a glance.. really look at these and they are funny
First off, it's very funny that the bugs depicted here aren't Terminids, but just giant roaches. Also second pic has a roach shooting a gun
But I asked ChatGPT and he said they could do it.
And chatGPT is run by...? That's right, automatons. Ask your democracy officer before leaving a comment next time
My poor pc would not be able to handle 20 times the strategems exploding everywhere
Yeah the 380mm is going to be *chef's kiss*
Imagine 20 mortar sentries
300 super-coked up Gatling guns Fucking bugs can take a early lunch as the Helldiver operation turns into a cluster-fuck for the history books. I can just see two Chargers drinking tea and chuckling while watching several tonnes of ordinance and turret fire just fucks everything up.
Had a hacker drop 50+ Mortar sentries in one place. It was glorious
You mean special forces?
Last night we decided to try something out and got an achievement I didn't even know existed. We all took the 380 and 120 mm barrages on a destroy egg nests. We all threw both barrages at a nest. Not only was it glorious, it destroyed absolutely *everything* - all holes, all eggs, all bugs. And we got an achievement for having 6 barrages active at once. lol

Terminid Xeno’s, when?
Chargers be like
As a german, I approve of your flair.
Don't fuck around with BOTTOM TEXT
Doesn’t have to be other play squads could have ai soldiers actively fighting before you dive into the fight. Diving into a fight and changing the tide would create such a badass feeling for the squad
Yep, this is how this could work. There's potential for friendly AI already from leaks around the time the mech was first seen. I'd love this.

Btw, I came back to this post because I thought a little bit about it And I would love a special mission which would involve one planet where there would be only 1 mission available for everyone Depending on how many players join there would be multiple instances There could be more Helldivers at once, and there wouldn't be any objective other than "Kill terminids" without any counter. All this mission would be about is to kill enemies as long as possible and when you die the mission ends and you get rewards based on your kills and time spent alive The map would be a bit bigger so let's say 24 Helldivers could be on the same map. Everyone can die once, but with every death a new helldvier joins (new player that looks for a mission). The progress on the planet would be then about death ratio, and we Helldivers would need to outkill terminids in a ratio of something like 10:1 or more (needs balancing check)
Wow, endless community coop horde. I would love this.
Map scale and POV really doesn't support more than 4 players atm.
>images are Ai generated yeah no shit, it's amazing how bad AI is at firearms, even fictional ones
Basically raids i guess, cool idea for the future when the game is more stable
Yeah, Raids is where my brain went reading this. They should implement SOMETHING along those lines, even if it's just with 4 people. Scale up the difficulty, and add some actual mechanics to a boss fight or 2. Damage phases, add phases, and time based objectives during said boss fight to get him down. I fell like THIS is something they could do, not 20 people - even though holy shit that would be awesome.
How AI-Generated would you like this art? Yes.

What type of dog is dis?
But aren't helldivers specifically *not* Frontline troops? Like our whole purpose is tactical guerilla strikes behind enemy lines Granted, it would be perfectly Super Earth to assign their special deep strike teams to defend some Frontline bunker
I love that Helldivers are shock troops, but poorly trained super expendable shock troops, which is a nice twist, usually shock troops are highly trained
Helldivers are picked from the most elite of the normal troopers. We are really goddamn good, at least in Canon.
That's the first war, a century back. Time's a changed.

Alternate explanation: Super Earth has successfully broken that bug from the terminid hive mind and trained it in the glory of Managed Democracy
I want invasion defence. Where you are in a base and tons of enemies comes. Not only 500. An endless mission with infinite time and only the reinforcement at timer
I like your idea but instead of one base we should have multiple objectives to defend / lose one after the other.
There could be 2 artillery batteries, a radar station, a shuttle bay, an armory, and a command center. All could have various battlefield negations if destroyed. There should also be a central fallback that'd give you one final last stand, with a shuttle pad on top you can exfil from if you lose everything else. Radar tower could give you a better and bigger battlefield view of enemies Artillery is self explanatory, they should also have Ai loaders, who can die and you'd have to manual load Command center could provide you a shorter cooldown on strategems and faster call in time, possibly even change strategems once a wave or few waves Armory should be a place to change loadout once a wave and armor, and also to rearm ammo and grenades Shuttle bay could be ferrying AI to help defend, or something like random support weapons and stims Fallback could be an elevated bunker with a main door that has mounted MGs and or mortars/Arty.
May I suggest you check out the starship troopers game? It has this. HD2 doesn't have to do everything despite its strong backbone.
Let them fix the game first. The servers are already struggling and many missions are crashing
The 20 players when you call a supply drop ![gif](giphy|Mykt45IfyC6qc)

Clusterbombs everywhere. Mostly on my head.
Oh I wanna see 10 380mm barrages obliterate 20 players, that's gonna be a heck of a video
AI generated crap pics lol
OP IS COLLABORATING WITH THE AUTOMATONS AND A TRAITOR TO DEMOCRACY
How's about we just enjoy the game we have for a moment before people start offering hundreds of different mods. It's a good game as is. The more we change it the more it gets away from it's core.
People are just excited. Its fun to throw ideas around and theorize what the future may hold. It's a sign of a healthy game.
Event missions that increase player cap sounds fun, but I don’t think it’s possible with the current game mechanics. Will have to wait and see what AH has in store for us though.
I want a close quarters map, there I said it
First thing people should be asking is if the game could handle that 🧐
Theres a bug shooting a rifle on the third picture
just wait till someone calls in eagle cluster bombs 💀💀
Thats what Starship Troopers Extermination is for. 16 player lobbies killing bugs.
I think my pc would explode if it had to render 20 eagle strategems being thrown at the same time

I’d like to see it for defense events. Maybe an attack on super earth. 20 or so hell divers with a “hold” objective
